In this episode, Dr. Sergio Zanotti explores one of medicine's fastest-evolving frontiers: artificial intelligence (AI). From predictive analytics to decision-support tools, AI is beginning to influence how we deliver critical care — but what does that actually mean for frontline clinicians? Dr. Zanotti is joined by Dr. Sharad Patel, a critical care physician with additional board certification in nephrology and Echocardiography. He is a Critical Care Intensivist at Cooper University Health Care, the assistant program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency Program, and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University. Dr. Patel is deeply interested in applying artificial intelligence and technology at the bedside. Additional resources: Landing page for New England Journal of Medicine – AI in Medicine section. In a previous episode, Dr. Sergio Zanotti explored the importance of challenging dogma, particularly when the supporting evidence is weak or absent. Today, he continues that discussion by examining critical care practices that persist despite a lack of strong scientific validation. He's joined by Dr. Mervyn Singer, an internationally recognized leader in critical care medicine. Dr. Singer is a professor of intensive care medicine at University College London and a distinguished clinician, researcher, and educator. Through his research, publications, and dynamic presentations, he has inspired Dr. Zanotti — and countless intensivists worldwide — to think critically, challenge conventions, and push the boundaries of our field. Due to advancements in medical and surgical care, the survival of patients with congenital conditions into adulthood has dramatically increased. However, as these individuals transition to adulthood, their unique physiology, chronic complications, and evolving care needs create significant challenges for their management when they are admitted to adult intensive care units (ICUs). This episode will discuss adult congenital disease in the ICU. Dr. Zanotti is joined by Dr. Cameron Dezfulian, a pediatric and adult critical care physician. Gene and cohost Tim Swartz present our staff announcer, Bob Zanotti, with another episode of "Voices of the Past." Bob has been interested in the UFO phenomenon from a very young age, back in the 50's as a pre-teen. In the 1960's he hosted a New York college radio talk show called “Coffee Klatsch,” which was devoted to the offbeat and the paranormal. As well, Bob often interviewed current UFO personalities. In this episode, you'll hear exclusive audio segments from his radio show, featuring some of the greats and near-greats in the UFO field from the early days. They included Gray Barker, Yonah Fortner, Dominick Lucchesi, Jim Moseley, August C. Roberts, John J. Robinson, Ivan T. Sanderson, and Andy Sinatra, who was also known as "The Mystic Barber." After broadcast journalism studies in New York and Montreal, his calling led Bob to Switzerland, where he was a full-time broadcast journalist and presenter at Swiss Radio International, Switzerland's international shortwave station. During his 32 years with SRI, Bob also produced a number of features involving the paranormal and the esoteric. One of them featured infamous contactee Billy Meier, which is available for download to subscribers to The Paracast Plus. Mike Luckovich - Atlanta Journal Constitution This week offers a stunningly sad contrast in America. We recorded on Thursday, just hours after the funeral of a good and humble man, President Jimmy Carter. The humanitarian from Plains was praised by a parade of family and friends, led by President Biden. In contrast (unless he gets a last-second reprieve from his puppets on the Supreme Court) our next President — a narcissist who can't even spell “humble” — will be formally sentenced on 34 felony counts. Donald Trump will go down in history as the only convicted criminal to occupy the Oval Office. He's not happy about it and made that clear at another of his patent-pending bananas news conferences, events sounding like a Festivus-style airing of grievances and feats of "strength" (a.k.a. threatening anyone who disagrees with him). In Michigan, the new Legislature has convened with Republicans in control of the House … and the new Speaker giving his oversight committee broad subpoena power. Will Matt Hall bring us a revival of the infamous Rudy Guiliani farts-and-lies hearing he hosted in 2021? Republicans in Michigan and across the nation have targeted transgender women, especially the handful participating in sports, as their culture war of the year project. This week the attacks extended to the U.S. House of Representatives where a new rule was added to ban newly elected Representative Sarah McBride, the first transgender House member, from using the women's bathroom. We are joined by someone who is helping lead the fight in the 2025 Civil Rights battle: Emme Zanotti, director of advocacy and civic engagement at Equality Michigan. A programming note: in the near future we'll be adding a video version of the podcast.

In 2015, Morgan Zanotti and her Primal Kitchen Co-Founder Mark Sissan set out to do something unheard of: replace the unhealthy condiments, sauces, and dressings that had come to dominate American grocery stores with equally delicious “cleaned up classics.” Built on a foundation of high-quality ingredients, the brand launched with an avocado oil mayonnaise and has since grown to over 70 products that can be found at over 16,000 retail locations. But before Zanotti was building one of the fastest-growing natural product companies and leading it through the acquisition of Kraft Heinz for $200 million, she was living a different life: She worked as an accountant, waited tables at a resort in Wisconsin, and surfed throughout South America. After returning to the United States, she was still unsure what a corporate career would look like for her, but as she says in this episode, sometimes it's best to “just try something… without the pressure of this being the end-all-be-all.” With this mentality, she took a job at a branding and design agency and quickly learned she had a knack for marketing. Zanotti went on to become the Marketing Director at beverage company KeVita. It was there that she met Mark, whom she chatted with about building a company together. Soon after that, Primal Kitchen was born.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Buona visione! What's it like to board a rocket ship? Just ask Morgan Buehler Zanotti. Morgan was in the flight deck as Co-Founder & President of Primal Kitchen through its explosive growth from 0-50 million in just 3 years. In her conversation with host Ryan Berman, Morgan takes us on the journey from her plans to start a surf-yoga retreat in South America, to leading Primal Kitchen's acquisition by Kraft-Heinz in 2018. Almost five years to the day of the purchase, Morgan recounts the plan she and her co-founder had going into the business, and how they successfully followed through on their vision. Morgan also opens up about her imposter syndrome, her inability to NOT say exactly what's on her mind (at all times) and gives listeners actionable advice on connecting with the right individuals that can help take their business to the next level.

In a study of contrasts, Donald Trump and Trump wannabes are gathered in Indianapolis as we recorded this week's podcast. They are all paying homage to the National Rifle Association at the gun manufacturing groups annual convention … even as Governor Whitmer signs two more gun safety laws opposed by the NRA into law with state and national leaders of March for Our Lives at her side…and additional laws working their way through the Legislature. The national debate over reproductive rights grows even more heated. Just before we started recording, Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito — who wrote the Dobbs decision overturning Roe – has issued a short stay on the Texas court ban on the abortion drug mifopristone. In Michigan, the Governor and Attorney General have joined forces with their Democratic counterparts nationally in challenging the initial court finding. We'll talk about the how this debate is nothing but bad news for Republicans. It's not just reproductive rights under national attack. Republican legislatures across the nation have declared war on transgender Americans. We're joined on the pod this week by Emme Zanotti, Director of Advocacy and Civic Engagement, for the Equality Michigan Action Network. Emme is a dedicated advocate for equality with integral roles in candidate campaign management, statewide caucus leadership, progressive coalition advisory, non-profit board service, and enhancing LGBTQ+ issue awareness and protections in the private sector. As a transgender woman who too often relied or had to rely on self-advocacy, Emme's passion is in coalition-building, empowering fellow-LGBTQ+ Michiganders to enter the advocacy arena, and making sure the community is well-represented at the tables where decision-making is happening about their lives and well-being. She is a former board member at Stand with Trans where she still facilitates a monthly support group for young trans women, and she most recently served as co-Chair and Vice Chair of the #HateWont Win Coalition and the Michigan Democratic Party's LGBT&A Caucus. =========================== This week's podcast is underwritten in part by EPIC-MRAEPIC ▪ MRA is a full service survey research firm with expertise in: • Public Opinion Surveys • Market Research Studies • Live Telephone Surveys • On-Line and Automated Surveys • Focus Group Research • Bond Proposals - Millage Campaigns • Political Campaigns & Consulting • Ballot Proposals - Issue Advocacy Research • Community - Media Relations • Issue - Image Management • Database Development & List Management =========================== Stories We're Following This Week Republican Attacks on Transgender Americans GOP state legislatures pass historic surge in bills targeting LGBTQ rights - The Washington Post Trans kids feel unsafe and stressed at school.
