The Awareness to Action Enneagram Podcast

In this episode of the Awareness to Action Enneagram podcast, Mario Sikora, María José Munita and Seth “Creek” Creekmore talk about coaching Enneagram Type Four. Even though it's not a common type in Mario's and MJ's line of work, they discuss how they would approach coaching by addressing their blind spots and accelerators as Creek shares personal insight as a Type Four.“Yeah, I think that this is not self-interest. It's identity. It's like whatever I take in must say something about me, so what is this saying about me?” -María José [14:23]“The Fours who do really well are the ones who are able to continue to grow into their ability to recognize what really matters and what really doesn't.” -Mario [22:57]“Another thing to never say to a Four is can't things just be ordinary and mundane? Yes, of course they can, but it's like, but it's not. In this episode, Kelsey Taylor interviews Enneagram Fours, Jayten Ames, and Dusty Green on their wings. In the context of the Enneagram, your wings are the two numbers directly adjacent to your primary Type. The 4w3 is known as the “Bohemian,” and these two personalities are seemingly at odds. The Four has a strong desire to express themselves authentically. At the same time, the Three consistently projects an image or version of themself to other that they believe others will accept and admire. The 4w5 is known as the “Aristocrat,” and this combination coexists quite naturally together. Both the Four and the Five are more inverted by nature. They both enjoy spending time retreating to their mind, the Four to daydream and the Five to process information. They both prefer to withdraw from others, the Four to experience their emotion and the Five to recharge. Depths do contain darkness, but just because you're tapped into darkness doesn't mean you're tapped into depth.” -Creek [13:07]“For me, the growth for the Four is in realizing that most of what they're doing is just derivative of say Holden Caulfield in ‘Catcher in the Rye.'” -Mario [14:27]“I think we all have beliefs that are our biases given by our type. In the case of Type Four, while striving to feel unique, when you think that your situation is more difficult, tougher, you suffer more, and it is a misrepresentation of reality. Individuals who identify as ennea-type Four and have a heavy wing Three influence are often nicknamed Enthusiast or Aristocrat. As with all Fours, they carry the weightiness of feeling special, but at the same time their uniqueness is additionally shaped by a competitive drive to be the most popular of their peers and seen as the best at their chosen field. There is a genuine ache to be seen and understood by others, but, ironically, the Four cannot trust those connections from others are genuine because of the many masks they themselves have adapted. For Randy Hall those un-dealt with feelings eventually contributed to a maddening cycle of using multiple substances, both to provide the energy to succeed at super-human levels and then come down from that manic pace. Whether working as an attorney or a teacher, Randy's experience was one of incessant driving to be uniquely the best while hooked in the addictive cycle, which finally took its toll in dramatic fashion when he acquired Guillain Barre Syndrome.Join us as Randy shares the story of his recoveries from addiction and Guillain Barre Syndrome and explains how he found a path to healing through Buddhist-inspired practices and principles.

I think it's much for the better that they didn't go down that road.” - TJ Ingrassia [17:24]“That's what happens with Nines. They can say the worst thing to you and they will sound nice anyways most times.” - María José Munita [28:45]“The thought that came with that is the dawning of curiosity comes after you've hit the wall. And so much personal work comes, not when somebody else tells us that we should do it or you see a list online or something like that, but when you reach a point where you just have to have that moment of clarity, that conversation with yourself of like what's going on?” - TJ Dawe [1:03:45]“María José was talking about how change feels uncomfortable and unnatural. I like to use the analogy of wearing someone else's clothes. It's just doesn't feel quite right.” - Mario Sikora [1:05:32]TIMESTAMPS[00:00] Intro[00:34] This week's guest: María José Munita[01:40] This week's movie: “Groundhog Day”[04:56] Movie as memes[07:16] About the movie[11:39] Thoughts on the philosophical themes [19:46] Interesting casting ideas[20:38] Rita as a Type Nine[32:54] Phil's Enneagram Type[55:55] Bill Murray as a Type Four[1:00:43] The path to growth[1:09:42] Phil as a One, Four and an Eight[1:13:39] OutroConnect with us:Awareness to ActionEnneagram on Demand The Awareness to Action Enneagram PodcastMario Sikora: IG: @mariosikoraWeb: mariosikora.comTJ Dawe:Web: tjdawe.caTJ Ingrassia:Web: tjingrassia.comYouTube: @TypeCastMaria Jose Munita: IG: @mjmunitaWeb: mjmunita.com

In this episode, Mario Sikora, TJ Dawe and TJ Ingrassia discuss the 1987 film, “The Princess Bride,” and reveal how easy it can be to look at a film and interpret it differently. The hosts examine the Enneagram Types for each character, at times not agreeing. Is Iñigo Montoya a Type Three or Type Four? What Enneagram Type do they see for Wallace Shawn's Vizzini? Why was Andre the Giant's character, Fezzik, the perfect Type Nine? Listen as the hosts share their thoughts on these and other characters.“I thought Count Rugen was maybe the one of the best Fives I've ever seen in a movie. Talk about detached.” - TJ Dawe [29:18]“The Navigating One, I think, is a subtype that's often misunderstood. Other people call this the Social One, and people have a tendency to think the so-called Social One is a reformer. Somebody who wants to change the world. That's not what's going on here.” - Mario Sikora [33:24]“If I had a thousand years with this movie, I never would have guessed One. I had her as a Four all day long, and maybe part of this is because… I might be biased, because my wife is a Four. And I felt like I was watching my wife through the course of this film.” - TJ Ingrassia [35:53]TIMESTAMPS[00:01] Intro[00:29] This week's movie: “The Princess Bride”[07:52] About the movie[12:44] The director, Rob Reiner, and the casting[19:01] Andre the Giant as Fezzik, a Type Nine[23:10] Wallace Shawn as Vizzini[29:15] Count Rugen as Type Five[32:04] Robin Wright as Buttercup[39:55] Westley's Enneagram Type[44:26] Iñigo Montoya: Type Three or Type Four?[51:59] Miracle Max's Enneagram Type[52:41] Overall tone of the movie[55:42] William Goldman and his Enneagram Type[57:57] Westley and Buttercup as a One, a Four, or an Eight?[1:02:21] OutroConnect with us:Awareness to ActionEnneagram on Demand The Awareness to Action Enneagram PodcastMario Sikora: IG: @mariosikoraWeb: mariosikora.comTJ Dawe:Web: tjdawe.caTJ Ingrassia:Web: tjingrassia.comYouTube: @TypeCast

We conclude the Heart Triad portion of our Enneagram ConvoCast series with a returning guest and member of our community, Alex! Both Alex and Tom share their motivations, fears, stress, and security as a Type Four (the Individualist or Romantic). As members of our YOB community, how does their Four-ness manifest in the realms of sexuality, masculinity, and relating with other men? Tom and Alex discuss the qualities they love about being Fours: artistic, empathetic, and yes, unique. In times of security they're objective and productive, taking action and creating things that add beauty to the world. A Four's "superpower" is empathy, giving others permission to "feel all the feels" with them, too. Tom and Alex also dive into their dark side of Four-ness: the neediness, the manipulation, the constant craving for approval, particularly from other men. Fours are often described as people who perceive lacking a critical "missing piece," and as queer or SSA men this hits especially deep for Tom and Alex. In adolescence did they miss some critical component for masculinity or sexuality, along with connecting with the other boys? What is the path forward for a Four in those whirlwinds of emotional stress? Listen to our full Enneagram conversation, and be sure to follow us these last few weeks as we finish dialing around the Enneagram with each type in our community! In this episode, Mario Sikora, TJ Dawe and TJ Ingrassia discuss the film, “Avengers: Age of Ultron” as a lens to explore the title character in “Black Widow,” and its overarching themes of Type Three. Both films share a common theme of searching for identity, asking the questions “Who am I?” and “How do I express that?” The three hosts also examine a few of the new characters introduced into the Marvel Universe, including Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch and Yelena Belova, and how they play into the Enneagram.“I think there's a sense of her embracing her pain… The Fours that I know, pain is their friend. Instead of moving away from, there's a moving into the pain, embracing it, feeling it, accepting it, and it seems like pain, personal pain is a huge theme for her throughout the whole series.” - TJ Ingrassia [14:25]“I think the whole theme of this movie was kind of Four-ish. There was a darkness to it. There was this big question of identity and this question of becoming.” - Mario Sikora [15:31]“That stood out to me as a really interesting symbol of Three-ness, of how we're all programmed to one degree or another. We get information from our parents, from our peer group, from society at large of this is the way to be. This is what's expected of you. This is the way that you can be valuable. And some part of us absorbs that, no matter how much we like to think that we're not. And part of the work of maturing is learning to separate ourselves from those voices and learning to say, ‘OK, what's my programming and what's actually me?'” - TJ Dawe [1:00:12]TIMESTAMPS[00:01] Intro[01:16] The relation between this week's movies[02:26] First movie: “Avengers: Age of Ultron” [05:44] Hosts' reflections and thoughts on the film[08:26] The importance of Hawkeye[12:38] The twins and Type Four[16:58] Natasha aka Black Widow[24:57] Ultron's and Vision's Enneagram Type[33:28] The theological themes in the movie[36:08] The Stan Lee cameo[38:34] Next film: “Black Widow”[42:41] The most compelling characters[44:55] Type Three connections[49:38] The humor in the film[50:53] Alexei as a Type Seven[54:16] Melina's and General Dreykov's Enneagram Type[59:11] Yelena as a Type Three and Type Eight[1:04:31] The character, Taskmaster[1:08:41] OutroConnect with us:Awareness to ActionEnneagram on Demand The Awareness to Action Enneagram PodcastMario Sikora: IG: @mariosikoraWeb: mariosikora.comTJ Dawe:Web: tjdawe.caTJ Ingrassia:Web: tjingrassia.comYouTube: @TypeCast

Chaos always accompanies addiction, regardless of the specific addictive behavior. Whether it's the inner turmoil of the addicted person or the outer craziness their behavior eventually brings to their life and to those who care about them, chaos is sooner or later a dynamic in the addictive lifestyle. You don't have to be an enneagram type Four to specialize in chaos but it sure seems to come with the territory. Chaos - whether of the inner or outer variety - often seems to make our beloved Fours feel more alive and, ironically, think they are more in control of life. When addictive behavior is layered in the chaos factor can get ramped up to extremes, can become an unconscious way of life even. That dynamic was a big part of Jane Strongs journey. Join us on this episode of How's That Working For You as Jane shares her struggle with multiple addictions, a timely ‘intervention' of enneagram insight at just the right time in her Step work, and her return to a childhood love of horses and how that is now helping so many burdened by trauma. In addition we get to hear how her fridge became an oracle!

"Is it possible that your number changes over the years? I remember being a 1 like five or six years ago, and now I did the test just for fun and I'm a 4 apparently (?)"This was such a great question I got over on Instagram the other day. While these two types on the surface may look very different, there are some very interesting similarities that do make this confusing sometimes. Both are very idealistic, Ones have an ideal version of how the world "should" be and Fours have an idealistic version of themselves. And both deal with the specific feeling of frustration (along with Type 7s) when that ideal version isn't lived up to. Most confusing though can be that when a One is in stress, they move to a Type Four, where they inner critic intensifies and they can slip into more depressed feelings. And then a Four is in growth or feeling secure, it's Arrow is to a One, bringing the needed structure and routine to their ideals and creative projects. Key differences covered in the episode include:1) how they each make decisions 2) their orientation to time 3) how they get their needs met4) how they handle conflict 5) handling the common good vs. personal desires Was this helpful? If they're not careful, they can slip into melancholy and drama. When they're strong and healthy, fours can be creative, thoughtful, and deeply in touch with emotions they can be a strong support system for their network. Timestamps:22:58   Fours: They always float up to the top. But they have to kind of ruminate down there - but they're okay.34:21   If you think of some of the famous singers through the years who told their stories authentically, that was probably brought there by fours.41:57   So the speaking style for the four can be dramatic, either a quiet, well modulated voice, or an intense often urgent cadence. That's part of marching to the tune of a different drummer.Full transcription of this podcast: https://www.sidehustlelounge.com/blog/ep40This episode was produced and marketed by the Get Known Podcast Service: www.getknownstrategy.com/podcast-serviceFellow pet lovers, If you've worked hard to put money aside to invest in the right side-hustle or expansion project, protect your cash reserve with the 2021 Forbes Advisor #1 Pet Insurance company, Toto. The Enneagram series aims to shine a light on just how differently each of us think, reason, behave and experience the world around us. By listening to the stories of others, we can start to learn what life is like from another's perspective. Getting to know the nine core Enneagram types leads to a deep understanding of self and others. The purpose really is to use the tool to build towards better relationships. In this episode, we explore life through the lens of an Enneagram Four with Mlisska Hubert. Fours are also called the "intense creative", "the artists" or "the individualists." Fours are self-aware, sensitive, and reserved. They are emotionally honest, creative and personal. *They have the motivational need to express their uniqueness and be authentic. Fours value individualism and as a result, feelings, self-expression and purpose will be important to them. They are quite romantic at heart and appreciate beauty and creating meaning for themselves and for others. Their self talk in a sentence:  “Something is missing – I must find what is missing in my life. I must be true to my purpose and express my authentic self. I must create beauty and meaning for myself and for the world."*Excerpt from https://www.integrative9.com/Mlisska is a life coach, wife and mother to two teens and two tweens. While we connected online about two years ago we have never met in person. In three words I would describe her as sensitive, self aware and grounded. These qualities have been a gift to me (and the world) Mlisska lives in Plettenberg bay, South Africa.

In this episode of Enneagram & Coffee, host Sarajane Case is diving back into the subtypes of Type Four. There are three subtypes for each Enneagram type – social, self-preservation, and sexual or one-to-one. This episode focuses on subtypes of Type Four and their relationship to suffering related to envy. 3 Key Points:  How the Self-Preservation subtype of Type Four demonstrates push-pull suffering related to envy. Why the Social subtype of Type Four prefers to be seen in suffering and has found comfort and familiarity in it.  Why the Sexual subtype of Type Four craves competition. Tweetable Quotes:  "They make efforts to get what they need and want but unconsciously work against themselves at the same time." - Sarajane Case "They may want to be happy but they experience an unconscious taboo around happiness." - Sarajane Case "They may express envious anger as a way to establish or assert power when they feel inferior at a deeper level which can be a way to manipulate situations to their advantage." - Sarajane Case Resources Mentioned: Sarajane Case Instagram, Website, Enneagram & Coffee ad-free episodes on Patreon  Beatrice Chestnut Website Learn more about your ad choices. The Four: The Individualist It’s another EnneaTalk Tuesday with our EnneaType series and this week it is all about the fours. The four, sometimes known as The Romantic, is the least typed on the Enneagram and operates mostly on their feelings, marching to the beat of their own drum and uniquely individual. I discuss how to lead, laugh, love, and learn from a four, especially if you are one. Listen to this episode to hear how to communicate and speak the four’s language, how to bring out the best in them if you lead or love them, and how to help them find significance and love by making them feel seen, heard, and understood.Driven by connection The Individualist is part of the heart triad and is the most emotionally in tune than any other type in the Enneagram. They operate from feelings, are highly intuitive, authentic, empathetic, compassionate, sensitive, witty, and fun. I describe what they are driven by, and how their goal is to reclaim their wholeness in the present moment by appreciating what is happening right now. I discuss how the fours can internalize a lot of their feelings and can sometimes be a roller coaster of emotions. When they are unhealthy, they can be dramatic, self-absorbed, moody, and withdrawn, but I share the ways you can help bring out the best in them, laugh with them, and communicate in their language. Uplifting and acknowledging their emotions I describe how their intuitive nature is unmatched, and how they often hold space for those they trust, offering the gift of loyalty and so driven by human connection that their superpower is sensitivity and authenticity. If you love or lead a four, I describe their working and leading style, how they tend to be artistic and creative, the needs of a four, and how you can bring out the best in them by making them feel seen, heard, and understood.Quotes:“4’s are the least typed on the Enneagram, usually because they are marching to the beat of their own drum.” :18“The Individualist or Romantic Type 4 believe that you can regain the lost ideal love or perfect state by finding a situation that is unique, special, and fulfilling.” 1:30 “The life lesson of the Individualist or the 4, the goal is to reclaim their wholeness in the present moment, by appreciating what is here right now”. 2:27 “In the times we are living in right now, the world as a whole I think is craving that more authentic and we will never take meaningful experiences for granted again.” 7:05 “Whatever they are feeling at the moment it is just that, a moment. In 5 minutes an Enneagram 4 can be feeling something completely different.” 9:55 “Holding them for their every single word, will destroy the respect you have from them and if you love one of them it will divide you.” 10:02 “They are the kings and queens of authentic self-expression, they are amazing storytellers. Their goal in everything is to be as authentic as possible.” 12:42 “They want to be seen and understood as who they feel they uniquely are, so words of affirmation is a big deal for them.” 13:51 “Understanding them is more important to them than agreeing with them”. 14:09 “Fours are idealists who long for a world that is not reality, they mourn the shortcomings that they see.” 19:44 “Shame is the silent killer, so when a four is healthy and they are vulnerable in both their success and shortcomings. They bring a sense of true authenticity, beauty and meaning to their relationships.”. 24:55“Being in relationships with 4’s has allowed me to see the value in the process time and it makes me feel, which as an 8, I don’t want to do.” 26:47“When you’re in relation whether it’s leading or loving a 4, just hear them. They don’t want you to fix them, they just want to be able to talk about their stuff.” 28:09“Sometimes, 4’s express their authentic feelings as a way to get through disagreements.” 29:57“If you are somebody that longs for deep connection with yourself and others, a 4 is who you want around.” 33:22“When we minimize the sensitivity of a 4, we rob them of trusting their intuition.” 35:26

Ready for the most special unicorn type of all time?? Well, it's the Four, but don't tell them there are more than one of them! Jk. We love our Individualists! The Romantic, or Individualist, needs to be special. They’re in touch with ALL the feels and have an impressive emotional range. They can be melancholic and moody, and their basic fear is of being perceived as ordinary. Fours are creative and uber-expressive. In relationships, they can be melodramatic and high-maintenance, but also incredibly empathic and comfortable dealing with hard stuff. If you need someone just to sit and hold space for you, call a healthy Four.Just in case you may have missed some of our other discussions or want to refresh your memory, check out this list of episodes: The Enneagram (overview)Enneagram and Relationships (w/ Sarajane Case)Becoming Your Own Guru e-course audio files (Patreon)Prefer to read? Our Enneagram series continues with another type who rounds out the heart triad: the beautifully complex Type Fours (also known as The Romantics). To lead us on all things Type Four, we have an incredible returning guest: a Four himself, Ian Morgan Cron. Ian wears many hats—Enneagram expert, author of The Road Back to You, host of Typology Podcast, priest and psychotherapist, to name a few—and his Fourness is revealed in his beautiful, open posture toward humanity. He walks us through how Fours believe that they have an “unredeemable deficiency,” how they feel a little different and off-center, and have a vague dissatisfaction with themselves. Typically seen as the most complex of all the Enneagram numbers, Fours seek to be special in some way to fill this inner void, and the road to being a healthy Four is when they realize that “specialness” isn’t their sole path to being loved. Ian shares personally his experience that the superpower of a Four is emotional intuitiveness and empathy; Fours are equipped to come alongside people in their dark moments and walk through the suffering with them, and they tend to gravitate towards spaces in which they can uniquely contribute to conversation. Conversely, Fours in conflict tend to withdraw, and Ian shares how they can be lovingly drawn out. And don’t forget to stick around until the end to hear from composer Ryan O’Neal (AKA Sleeping At Last), who shares his process for crafting a music piece as uniquely complex as Type Fours.

The best self-care practices for enneagram type four is explained inside. It's a subject I'm delighted to talk with an actual type four on what this looks like in life.  Self-care is a subject that I've thought long and hard about. Similar to the body positivity movement - it's one that has a lot of good and bad. But if we go back to the original definition of the word, then I think we can start to understand that self-care is not just another series of benchmarks and checkmarks, but it's a filling from abundance.  Of knowing where you are and loving yourself for being there. Yet willing to take the necessary action to fill that self up. Whether through nourishing foods, bubble baths, or anything in between. Self-care is what you need and providing that when you need it - even if it is just a morning of extra sleep.  So maybe all of that to say, we don't have to practice self-care but rather make self-care a part of who we are — living self-aware.  The Ennea-health series was born from this. A place of actual knowledge to take action, creating a healthier life that is who you are not what you do.  Today we continue digging into the Enneagram type four through an interview with a dear friend. Today I talk with Jasmine about her health journey how she has learned to use her strengths to overcome her health hurdles. Want to get healthier? Let your enneagram number be your guide. Inside I teach enneagram type four how to use their type for health. Getting outside of standard health benchmarks and learning how to live in health rather than for it!  Four's you feel in a way that most people never will. While this makes you feel different, even sometimes questioning what is missing from your life, in health, I wonder if you already are what you've been dying to become? Four's, I believe that while envy can overrun your life, in time and the right mind space, you can become one of the most confident and sure humans on this planet.  You are the meaning makers, bringing purpose, logic, and creativity to the world and doing it with such grace. Your gifts and talents and art can pull people up, transforming them into a better, happier person with each encounter you grace them with.  To get healthy, fours, you have to recognize that while you can feel all the things, you do not need to become what you feel. Your feelings don't own you or have to rule your life.  The work isn’t easy, but it is worth it. Inside today's podcast, we dive into how to make healthier changes for enneagram type four. We talk through the health benefits of processing your emotions, creating nourishing rhythms, and balance.  We've also created a free download for teaching you how to make health who you are through your enneagram number. Author's Bio Harry Palmer is the creator of The Avatar® Course. He founded Star's Edge International, the seminar management corporation that supervises the delivery of the Avatar® Materials. He is also an author, his first book “Living Deliberately” (currently available in 20 languages) describes his personal path to enlightenment and the subsequent insights that were to become the foundation of the three-section, nine-day Avatar® Course. He also wrote Private Lessons and The Way We Came which is featured in this podcast series. What was shared in this episode: This episode is the eight of the series where Ariane reads the book “Living Deliberately” by Harry Palmer. Ariane Leanza Heinz is a vocal coach and artist consultant based in Zürich. She decided to do the Avatar course in 2001 when she felt her life was not moving forward. She had big dreams like being an artist, writing songs and performing, but she was stuck in her limitations and seemed to go in circles. She tried many techniques, as she loves exploring and is a risk taker. After her Avatar course, her life started to unravel. Things started moving. She got married, had her first daughter, found an apartment in New York City, released her first CD, gave concerts and built a successful vocal practice. Since then she uses the Avatar exercises on a daily basis to break out of her own boundaries, to get out of her comfort zone and she reaches quickly all the goals she sets for herself. The natural thing to do was to share this training with her friends and family, so she decided to take the training to become an Avatar Master and has been delivering the course since 2007. “Every course brings me ten steps forward, I grow as a person, mother, and teacher, it not only benefits me but all the people around me.” Excerpt from the book: All but the most emotionally dependent eventually develop an unresponsiveness to the manipulative fear and emotional appeal of Type One systems.
