At the age of eleven, Deenbo Kidane immigrated to the U.S. from Ethiopa, giving her an unique understanding of the challenges immigrants face, as well as the struggles their children face. Her father was a ministry leader, so she also witnessed firsthand the difficulty immigrant ministry leaders encounter when trying to find a supportive, encouraging community. Little did she know, these life experiences would be put to good use one day.Today, Deenbo is the Co-Director of the Daniel Initiative, a network of pastors and church leaders from all over the world. She is also the Director of Children's and Youth Ministry at El-Bethel Ethiopian Missionary Church. As she likes to say, she's a 'bridge', encouraging youth not to assimilate or to isolate, but to thrive. Being the bridge is hard work, and Deenbo is honest about that, but she knows she's doing exactly what she's supposed to be doing - and she loves it.Listen in and be encouraged. For more about the Daniel Initiative. For more about El-Bethel Ethiopian Missionary Church.

The Spirit leads and equips us to impact in ways we could not imagine. Philip is led to a seemingly random individual to explain the Scripture to him. Through Philip's faithful actions, the man believes, and carries that belief back to Ethiopia. That single act by Philip led to a great spread of Christianity in Ethiopia, leading them to officially adopt Christianity in 330 AD, making them one of the first nations to declare themselves “Christian.” We often don't know why we're being led somewhere or to someone by the Spirit, but in following we have the opportunity to potentially be a part of history.A single act of faithful servitude to the Lord can create change beyond what we can even comprehend. When our relationship with Christ is where it should be, He is the why.Following the Spirit is exciting.First, the Eunuch accepts Christ as his Savior.Secondly, the Eunuch continues his journey back home, rejoicing on his way.Third, there is now a joy-filled Gospel spreader of great means going back to the queen of Ethiopa's household.

“My grandmother just looked at me in the eyes. She's like, ‘You should be happy that I'm alive. What are you crying for?' And then I was just like, I know, I know… But you know, it's like tears of joy. Maybe there was a different feeling of ‘Why did you abandon me or why did you leave me?' Maybe there was that sort of anger as well. But you know, it was more of, ‘I don't give a shit about that. You're here now…' The majority of my life, I just wanted my mom and my grandmother, I just wanted to be loved.” Episode #156 of The Hope Initiative with Ras-Samuel Welda'abzgi. Ras-Samuel is an actor, producer and part time savage. Hailing from Ethiopa, he moved to Australia with his father and 2 siblings before he was 10, and quickly yearned for his old life without the first world problems faced here in Australia. A life of crime ensued, until time spent in Juvie and a reconnected with his roots back in his homeland showed him the path to storytelling and acting. Living out his grandmothers prophecy day by day, this was a fun chat with Ras-Samuel! Thanks for joining me my friend. I hope you all enjoy! #BlackWomenWednesday w/ Kassaye For this episode of #blackwomenwednesday I am joined by the amazing Kassaye (IG @kassaye33). I asked her to join us and share her story of being an #Ethiopian adoptee after surviving the famine of 1985. We want to highlight another side of war that people often leave out of the conversation. Tune in and learn more about the adoptee perspective and why we'll kindly ask you to do more DNA tests! #Ethiopa was on the world stage in the 80s for an eerily similar famine but most fail to realize the famine is man-made and completely avoidable. Words like this minimize the impact on people and try to neatly identify people in a box. So privileged and blessed to have connected to Kassaye and have her share her actual experience of living through it. So many are reliving this now and hopefully this connected themes community and resources. We see you and we're here for you. https://www.instagram.com/uprooted.podcast/channel/ https://twitter.com/uprootedpodcast https://facebook.com/uprootedpodcast #blackwomen #blackwomenentrepreuner #blackwomenwednesday #immigrant #firstgeneration #tigray #tigraygenocide #womenofthemovement #womeninbusiness #selfcare #womensupportingwomen #legacy #healing #collectivetrauma #africa #diaspora #uprooted #inspirationalwomen #adoptee #faminesurvivor #eastafrica #stopwarontigray --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/uprootednetwork/support

I talked with coffee expert Willem Boot all about specialty coffee: the business, the art, the ethics and more. We also discussed Willem’s company, Boot Coffee, including its offerings (consulting, courses, trips), Willem’s farms in Ethiopia and Panama, and the coffee that turned his world upside down. Willem Boot is the founder of Boot Coffee, located in San Rafael, California. He’s also a coffee expert who has advised coffee companies, coffee associations, development banks and governments around the world. Willem appears in Dave Egger’s recent book, The Monk of Mokha. He has never lived in Istanbul, despite what a blog on his website might claim.
While in Michigan, attending and presenting at a conference, Shawn made a new friend - Simret Mahary - and talked with him about his missional efforts in Frankfurt, Germany. Born in Ethiopa but raised in Germany, Simret is a pastor who started PRESENCE Kulturlounge, which is a cultural center that brings people together to talk about art, movies, and spirituality (what missional theorists would call a "Third Space"). Glean some ideas from what it's like to be missional in Europe - the most secular part of the world.

Start in North Africa with the Berbers who live in Algeria and move around the world, geographically and emotionally. ** Discretion Advised: This podcast includes language some listeners may find objectionable. The program host and Smithsonian Folkways chose not to exclude it in order to preserve the historical context of the recording.**
