What happens inside a jail is often hidden from public view — unless you've been booked yourself. But for Flagler County, Florida, Sheriff Rick Staly, transparency isn't just a talking point — it's a strategy. By opening his facility to A&E's “Booked: First Day In,” Staly hopes to reshape perceptions of corrections work, showcase the professionalism of his staff and highlight how modern jails play a vital role in community safety. In this episode of the Policing Matters podcast, host Jim Dudley speaks with Sheriff Staly about his decision to allow A&E cameras into his jail and the positive ripple effects it has had. From building empathy with the public to drawing in new recruits, Staly says the program has helped humanize corrections work, combat stereotypes and reinforce accountability inside the walls of his award-winning facility. “Booked: First Day In” is available On Demand and to stream on the A&E app and aetv.com. Listen to Bill's interview with his friend Greg Blose, President/CEO of the Palm Coast-Flagler Regional Chamber of Commerce. It was great to catch up with Greg and have a chance to talk about the explosive growth that we are experiencing, and how it is being managed. It brought back memories of how not too many years ago...Palm Coast used to be the "best kept secret in the world" when it comes to living the Florida lifestyle. Well...someone let the secret out of the bag! The flood gates are open and folks are moving here from across America to enjoy our beautiful weather, our pristine beaches, and the family friendly atmosphere. Managing that growth takes a dedicated team like Greg's, working in concert with businesses and local government officials to effectively guide the expansion, and to maintain the culture that makes our community so special. Solar-Fit is proud to be a member of the Palm Coast-Flagler Regional Chamber and we appreciate the hard work being done behind the scenes to keep our community growth on track. One of many exciting projects now underway is the new Southern Palm Coast Recreation Center. The Rec Center will feature a brand new Pickleball complex that will excite so many advocates of the fastest growing sport in our country. One of the awesome special features is that the Rec Center they built will be Solar-Fitted... meaning powered by the sun. How cool is that! Last, but certainly not least...we can not mention Flager County without giving a special thanks to Sheriff Rick Staley and his team for providing a safe haven for our families to reside. If you have a chance, take a moment to thank him and the brave officers for the job they are doing daily to serve and protect Flagler County residents and businesses.Support the show

In this episode, The Mentors Radio host Tom Loarie talks with UND grad and suspended FBI Special Agent Steve Friend, a respected 12-year veteran of the FBI and a SWAT team member. But this interview is not about the details of Steve's recent bombshell whistleblowing. This interview is about Steve's career, his journey, his character, his compass and anchor points...his "why"... The challenge he faced could easily apply to anyone, in any position, at any time. An excellent reminder that in work and in life—and in finding happiness and peace of soul—character counts! What would you do if the company leadership where you worked asked you—expected you—to do something unethical, something that went against clearly stated corporate principles, or against an oath you took (perhaps as a medical doctor, nurse or law enforcement officer, or in any kind of business position)? the This same question was faced by leadership and higher-level employees at the ENRON company many years ago. The same question was faced by a young Naval Officer at sea when the highest ranking commander on that ship refused to respond to an SOS call the young officer had received, even though their ship was the closest one to the cry for help plea. In each of these examples, some people stood up, respectfully, and endured consequences until the truth won out. At some point, we each have to answer this question in one way or another... many times during our lives. Steve Friend gives us an inside look at his "why." Have you ever thought, I can get to this later? I don’t need to do this now. It is really not that important. Maintenance. I was with my brother Frank, this week in the farm country of western Flagler County, Florida, when we were looking at a very large and beautiful field that had been mowed. It was framed with cattle and tall summer crops in the background, green and vibrant. The land was adjacent to a beautiful house that has been in a family for over a hundred years. But, in the middle of the field was an old abandoned truck. It was ancient, rusted and derelict and the mowers of the field, well, they just mowed around it. I mean the same big tractor that mowed this big field surely had a small chain and hook that could have been attached to the small truck and moved it out of the field. But, it was obviously just easier to mow around it. To know it is there but not deal with it and mow around It. I have stuff like that in my life. It is just easier to mow around it than to deal with it……attitudes, thoughts, actions,…It is amazing how much a real-life example can speak. Do you have stuff you are mowing around? This is an examination of what the Bible says about this topic and how we can address this complacency in our lives. It also differentiates between Satan pounding us with guilt and the Holy Spirit nudging us to correct things. It is about our covering.
