#026 With all of the focus on financial literacy, roughly 45 states have adopted standards for financial literacy, there is yet to be significant progress within the curriculum in schools. Only 6 states require that you take a course on financial literacy before graduation. Standards for financial literacy include Economic Education, Financial Education, Entrepreneurial Education, and Personal Finance Education. Particularly lacking in schools is Personal Finance Education. The passion has been noted to be highest in low to moderate-income communities. Do you feel like you know what’s needed to put into motion the changes you want for your work or life, but there are others whose buy-in you need? Are things pretty good but in your sight line you know they could be GREAT if only a few external circumstances could line up? I’ve seen it a lot with talented, hard working and intelligent leaders who think they need “this before they can do that.” Where “that” is another person’s permission to make the change in order to have what they want. So what if that wasn’t true? What if what you’re missing in your world could be as simple as you giving yourself permission to experience it? Now if giving yourself permission seems too simple to you, there’s a good chance you’re overcomplicating. It’s ok. A lot of talented, hard-working and intelligent leaders do. In today’s episode we’re taking a close look at why we wait for permission from others, why we don’t give it to ourselves and how to change that sooner than later. Sure, we know its not a bird and yes we know its not a plane but do we even care anymore that it's Superman? Super heroes may be more popular than ever but fewer and fewer cosplayers are donning Kryptonian tights. Well podcaster Joe Slepski (JOE ON JOE) thinks the world still needs a Superman and today he'll discuss Ka-El's relevance with a fair amount of reverence for the Christopher Reeve version as first portrayed in the 1978's SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE. If I had to pick only one of the biggest challenges' women deal with in breast cancer recovery, it would have to be fear. Fortunately, there are ways to manage fear and even learn to live with it and still find peace of mind. In this episode I'm going to tell you how to do that. Fear not…you can find happiness and peace of mind after breast cancer. For Full transcript go to: www.thebreastcancerrecoverycoach.com/97
That Anxiety Guy - Straight Talk And Help With Anxiety, Panic and Agoraphobia
Here is a paradox. So much of this anxiety complex revolves around a desperate attempt to find 100 percent iron clad certainty. The search for certainty in the face of irrationally perceived threats destroys your ability to handle uncertainty in the face of real challenges and threats. The search for safety undermines the very thing you seek ... If you've ever felt out of control when it comes to food, this is an episode that you don't want to miss. Have you ever considered that the food itself and the way you've conditioned yourself to eat are a bigger problem than your will power? In this episode I'll tell you all about hyper palatable foods. These foods are extra tasty because of the combination of fats, sugar, salts and carbohydrates in them. They are also the foods that have led to the idea of food addictions. Listen in to hear what a Hyper palatable food is, how they effect your eating behaviors and what you can do to take back the power over your food choices so you are in control of your food instead of the food being in control of you. Episode 001. You've heard about systems and workflows, but are you using them correctly? I want you to get in the habit of creating systems and workflows to make your life easier. It sounds simple enough, but if it's so easy, why doesn't everyone do this? Because just like most things, you have to put in the work first. You have to start. You have to be consistent. You have to take the time in the beginning to find the process that works for you. Most people don't know where to start OR they already commit to not having the time to set it up before they even begin. I'm going to give you one strategy and one action task to help you get started on creating your systems and processes. Hello, and welcome to this episode of Breaking Bread. This week Liam breaks bread with hugely talented Silvia Sanchez Santiago from Tapas Catering company. This was a brilliant conversation in which Silvia's passion for food really comes through. After getting her degree in business Silvia knew an office job wasn't going to cut it and that she just had to follow her dreams of starting her own food business. Silvia is very honest and open about the struggles of starting your own business. Especially as Silvia fell pregnant with her first child as she was starting her catering company, amazingly traveling the UK doing festivals taking her baby with her. HELLO FOODIES, This week we are Breaking Bread With Head Chef & owner of one of our favourite restaurants at the moment, Little Blackwood Moseley. We start the episode off by going through Bens work history, places he has trained at, and how working in hotel kitchens is so different to working in a normal restaurant and changes dramatically again, when you own your own restaurant. Since recording this episode, we have been very lucky to have become friends with Ben & his girlfriend restaurant manager Zsofia. As you hear in the show, Ben is extremely passionate about his restaurant and loves what he does. I think the crazy hard work that goes in to being a restaurant owner is evident. For Episode 2, we wanted to talk about an ever so vital part of living a chosen life...IDENTITY in CHRIST! For Full show notes, other FREE resources and the study questions for this episode click HERE. Identity is such a crucial part of our walk with Christ! Remember to DIP Daily pursuit of Christ Identity in Christ Purpose in HIM With Identity, we wear SO many labels: daughter, wife, professional, singer, etc. and then there’s “Christian.” It's almost like a name tag we pick up depending on our activity or who we are with. BUT Christianity isn't just another title...it's a lifestyle that changes EVERY other title in our life. "a pile of chocolate chips isn't a cookie!" It's not until your walk becomes MORE than a title that Christianity truly changes your life. God can’t bless what isn't his. Have you given him your other “name tags?” The big question: Who am I? We are all looking for an answer to fill the void. Until we find our FULL identity in Him that the other titles start to make sense. If the first thing you have found is Jesus then the search is over. We will always be thirsty unless we nourish with LIVING water... CHRIST! The world says one thing about us...but the WORD says another! Ephesians 6:14-18: Armor of God We are warriors! It's who we are! We have been given what we need to be protected and to carry out the mission that God has for us! ARMOR UP DAILY or you will be exposed to the enemy’s attacks Its all about daily pursuit! Belt of TRUTH: His word is TRUTH! Turn to God’s word to know who you are. Breastplate of Righteousness: Satan will try to slander our hearts with sin and shame. God has made us RIGHTEOUS through HIM! A breastplate protects the heart...make sure to guard your heart with that! Don't discount the price God paid for your sin by bringing back old sin and guilt into your life! Shoes of Peace and Readiness of the Gospel: When you walk with God, you can walk in peace! There is nothing worse than having your peace stripped from you. God is simply saying to put on HIS armor and walk in PEACE. Helmet of Salvation: you have to protect your mind because the Enemy will attack with thoughts of doubt and second-guessing our faith! Sword of the Spirit: the word of GOD! What are you a professional in? What do you know and put into practice? We need to become a professional in the Word every day! Shield of Faith: knowing what you stand for and letting that be your shield. Our faith is what will guard us from Satan’s darts! Its the first thing the darts will hit...try to get past my faith!

This is our monthly special episode where I co-host the show with another colleague. We have 3 segments Examples from Our Homes What’s Up with You? Answering listener parenting questions Favorite Finds In the first segment, I tell a story about a delayed Christmas gift I had ordered for my daughter. How she reacted triggered past hurts in me and I was stuck. It is hard to parent peacefully and respond respectfully when our wounds get triggered. Parenting is an emotional job. This experience has not only enabled me to face my own unresolved issues but also it served as a catalyst for me to open up and share a painful story from my past. We often feel like as parents we need to hide our stories, our past. When we share parts of us with our children we invite them into our lives and it gives them a different perspective. After I shared my story, my daughter was touched and the connection between us just got deeper. Have you ever shared parts of you with your child? How did it go? How did you child respond? What did you feel? Laura shares a story related to their recent trip to Disney. Key takeaways from her story are: let's allow children to go through their own experiences connect to your child's inner experience and do not invalidate their fears appreciate who your child is and don't try to change her For FULL show notes where you can see the picture of the rain boots, read about Laura, get the links and resources we have mentioned and more, CLICK HERE. As I've said before, so often when someone loses their sight, it is that person who gets all the attention. After all, they are the ones losing their sight, right? But, what about all the people in that person's life that are now affected by this? Aren't their lives turning upside down as well? There are so many feelings that sighted supporters go through but rarely discuss with others because they don't want to "look bad" or be perceived as selfish. However, it is so important that sighted supporters have the chance to deal with those feelings just like the new VIP needs to as well. Today, we'll look at five such feelings, the context in which they might feel them and what to do when it comes up.For Full show notes, inlcuding links to everything I talked about, please visit http://lifeaftersightloss.com/017
