What can you do if your family relationships are toxic? Listen in on this episode of Awaken Your Wise Woman, as host Elizabeth Cush welcomes psychotherapist Sharon Martin for a discussion on sensitive women cutting family ties so you can heal. “Being angry is very both natural and helpful in a situation. When you have been mistreated, you should feel angry about that.” — Sharon Martin Highly sensitive persons can have a hard time letting go of harmful relationships. When those toxic relationships involve parents or other family members, cutting ties can be especially painful. In this episode of Awaken Your Wise Woman, host Elizabeth “Biz” Cush, LCPC, a licensed professional therapist, founder of Progression Counseling in Maryland and Delaware, and a soul guide for highly sensitive women, welcomes psychotherapist and author Sharon Martin, DSW, LCSW, back to the podcast to talk about the issues that can make setting hard boundaries with toxic family members so challenging, options for navigating those boundaries and what it can feel like to heal and move on. In the first half, shamanic energy healer and allopathic physician Dr. Sharon Martin shared insights on self-care and spiritual connection during the holiday season. "We've got to lower our expectations of ourselves and the burdens we put on ourselves-- this idea that you have to buy everything, you have to do everything," she said, advocating for a more centered approach to the holidays, with a focus on forgiveness. Dr. Martin pointed out the need to bring the sacred into daily life, explaining, "We as humans are intimately linked to the energies of nature, of the cosmos," and can access universal consciousness through such things as rituals, music, and meditation. "Sound is a primal energy of the universe," she added, noting that music can align the mind, body, and spirit. When asked about her spiritual practices, she described her connection to "magical beings," particularly dragons, which she views as a creative energy source. "I connect to that force... to ask for assistance, to help understand," Martin detailed. Ultimately, she believes that returning to the heart and embracing gratitude is essential for personal evolution. Regarding manifesting, she emphasized the importance of having a strong belief in the outcome and aligning one's desires with action. She suggested that successful individuals often visualize their goals, tapping into the "big field of pure potential" that connects them to a universal consciousness.-------------In the latter half, exorcist and spiritual deliverance minister Bill Bean shared his harrowing journey through childhood trauma and demonic forces that plagued his family, as well as some of the cases of demonic oppression and possession that he's worked on in recent years. He recounted how his family's struggles began when they moved into a home in Glen Burnie, Maryland, where dark forces had been invited through ancestral rituals. From ages five to twelve, Bean faced regular demonic attacks that caused immense trauma, leading to the destruction of his family. He poignantly remarked, "It's a miracle that I'm here today...the devil was trying to kill me."Recalling a particularly intense case from 2014 at the home of a possessed woman, he confronted a "black hooded being" at least seven feet tall with glowing red eyes and possible folded-in wings. "I shouted at it. I said, by the mighty power of Yahweh, the mighty and holy name, and Yeshua Jesus, in Christ's name, I bind and rebuke you and command you to depart!" He threw a mixture of holy water and oil on it, and "it let out a screech like I have never heard before or since in my life" and then it fled the home.He revealed that such dark entities often enter through a specific portal or location in the home, and that it's crucial to maintain a high frequency and vibration when dealing with them. "When a person's frequency is down...they are wide open and vulnerable for demonic attack," he noted. Bean also discussed his extensive travel to assist those in need, sharing that he's helped people in over 60 countries, including over the phone and video, demonstrating that faith transcends physical distance.

In this practical guide to her program of Maximum Medicine, Dr. Martin shows how understanding the energetics behind health imbalances and applying shamanic and energy medicine techniques can shift our health, change the course of illness, and allow us to increase our life force. Explaining how the basis of true healing is through awareness of and access to the energy body, she reveals how to sense the energy body to develop greater control over our health. Bridging the mystical and the scientific, Dr. Martin looks at new ways of seeing illness and visualizing the potential for healing using symbolic medicine wheels based on the elements, the compass directions, the four perspectives (literal, emotional, spiritual, and energetic), and the inner tasks of intuitive exploration, amplification, intention setting, and ritual. She describes how to view your organ systems and health challenges through the Andean symbol of the Chacana, which can help you understand your challenges and the journey to overcome them. She examines the process of the Four A's (aware, allow, act, affirm), the actions one takes to enact change and healing. The author also explores how to amplify your mindfulness using a new Mindfulness Matrix, which in turn leads to a greater ability to self-reflect and bring about healing. Presenting a straightforward, stepwise approach to attaining mastery of your health as well as simple practices and methods to gain control over illness, Dr. Martin shows how anyone can support their own healing and experience being more fully alive. Welcome back to Therapy Chat! This week, continuing our theme of coping with holiday and family stress, host Laura Reagan, LCSW-C, revisits a recent Therapy Chat episode with frequent guest Dr. Sharon Martin, LCSW. Last week Sharon shared strategies to help us feel empowered when interacting with family and during the holidays in general. This week she will teach us why expressing our wants and needs, and naming our boundaries can help us feel in control of our lives as the grown @$$ adults that we are. We can't control everything but do have autonomy and choice as adults. With mindful intention, it is possible to thrive, even during stressful times. It's common to feel disempowered when we grew up in homes without our emotional needs being met consistently enough. However, as an adult, you have more power than you may be giving yourself credit for. No one can actually take that away from you. By focusing on what is within your control and letting go of what isn't, you can take your power back during the holidays. As we move into the New Year, learning to express your wants and needs and name and hold your boundaries is something that you can learn. Sharon's recommendations shared in this episode can help. Sharon will give some great tips on why it can be hard to set boundaries, why they're important, and how to do it. Dr. Sharon Martin, LCSW is a licensed psychotherapist specializing in codependency recovery with an online practice serving California residents. For the past 20 years, she's been helping perfectionists and people-pleasers overcome self-doubt and shame, embrace their imperfections, learn to set boundaries, and reclaim their self-worth. Welcome back to Therapy Chat! This week host Laura Reagan, LCSW-C, revisits a classic Therapy Chat episode with frequent guest Dr. Sharon Martin, LCSW. After the November holidays, as we move into the winter holiday season, we may find ourselves feeling a sense of dread, unease, anxiety, or other feelings that are hard to name. We might find ourselves fantasizing about making the holiday "perfect" and "magical" either for ourselves or our family. Sharon explains that sometimes we are unaware of aspects of our family of origin's communication patterns and boundaries that don't really work for us. She describes some of the dysfunctional dynamics that can be common in households where there was abuse and emotional neglect. If your family of origin relationships are continuously disappointing you, maybe this episode will help you feel less alone. Tune in next week as we continue our series with Sharon Martin. Next week she'll talk about strategies to get through the holidays when your family relationships are strained or stressful. Then the last episode of December will be about setting boundaries. Sometimes we don't realize how badly we need to set boundaries with our families until we are reflecting on why we feel so stressed after the holidays end. Sharon will give some great tips on why it can be hard to set boundaries, why they're important, and how to do it.
