It's normal for partners to have disagreements and arguments, but it's still important to maintain respect for each other. When one partner disregards or undermines the feelings, interests, opinions, or beliefs of the other, it can significantly damage the relationship. At the beginning of a relationship, it is crucial to have an open and honest discussion about respect with your partner. While there may be some fundamental understanding of respect, it's important to acknowledge that each person may have their own interpretation and expectations of what respectful behavior entails. By having this conversation, you can establish a shared understanding and ensure that both partners feel respected in the relationship. What is respect?Oxford Dictionary;a feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements.due regard for the feelings, wishes, rights, or traditions of others.VERB; admire (someone or something) deeply, as a result of their abilities, qualities, or achievements. How To Show RespectIn order to build and maintain healthy relationships, it is crucial to establish a foundation of mutual respect. This can be demonstrated through various positive behaviors, such as actively listening to your partner's emotions, respecting their personal boundaries, encouraging and supporting their interests and goals, and speaking kindly about them when discussing your relationship with others. By practicing these behaviors consistently, you can foster a strong and respectful bond with your partner. Respecting someone involves expressing admiration and esteem for them by consistently demonstrating considerate actions, behaviors, and words. You can love someone and still be disrespectful1) Good CommunicationThe concept of disrespect can vary from person to person. For instance, consider a scenario where someone purchases a vacuum cleaner as a birthday gift for their partner, believing it to be a thoughtful and valuable present. If the recipient of the gift is a stay-at-home parent who takes care of most household chores, it's important to consider their perspective. They are characterized by the ability to feel secure and intimate with your partner on all levels. It involves wholeheartedly sharing yourself with another person, forming a deep connection beyond mere infatuation.Intimacy goes beyond just romantic relationships. Understanding the various levels of intimacy can help you foster deeper connections in all your relationships, not just the romantic ones. Having knowledge about these levels allows you to be more intentional and purposeful when cultivating intimacy with others.Levels of Intimacy1 – Safe Communication. The level of intimacy in everyday communication with strangers is generally low. It's the kind of interaction we often have with people we don't know well, like the casual chat with a supermarket checkout girl or a brief conversation with someone at a retail store. When it comes to using facts and information in writing, the risk of rejection is minimal or virtually nonexistent. Since personal feelings and opinions are not involved, the content tends to be more objective and less likely to be criticized or disagreed with. 2 – Sharing Other Peoples' Opinions and Beliefs. During this stage, we tend to open up and reveal more about ourselves by referencing what others say or believe. This can be done in a subtle manner, such as mentioning what our boss always says or commenting on a recent news event . By doing so, we gauge the other person's reaction and gain further insights into their thoughts and opinions.. When faced with individuals who hold different opinions, it is common to feel uneasy or threatened by potential criticism or rejection. In such situations, it is natural to distance ourselves as a protective response.3 – Sharing Our Own Personal Opinions and Beliefs. When we express our thoughts, opinions, and beliefs, there is a certain level of risk involved. It opens us up to vulnerability as others may not agree or understand our perspective. However, if the outcome doesn't align with our expectations, we have the option to acknowledge that we've reconsidered or gained further insight. This allows us to avoid potential conflicts or emotional distress.4 – Our Own Feelings and Experiences. They add excitement and unpredictability to the storyline, keeping viewers engaged and on their toes. But have you ever wondered why plot twists have such a psychological impact? It's because they tap into our innate desire for suspense and surprise. Our brains are wired to seek novelty and unexpected outcomes, which is exactly what plot twists deliver. These unexpected turns in the narrative create a sense of anticipation, curiosity, and emotional arousal, making them one of the most thrilling aspects of movie-watching for many people.Reflect on your memories of the first movie that left a lasting impression on you. It's likely that this film had an intriguing plot twist at its core. Personally, I recall the excitement when everyone gathered to discuss "The Sixth Sense," a movie known for its unexpected narrative turn.Cognitive scientist Vera Tobin aptly describes stories as a form of magic trick in a recent NPR article about the psychology of plot twists. This statement resonates with the idea that storytelling has a mysterious and captivating effect on our minds. "When we dissect them, we can discover very, very reliable aspects of those tricks that turn out to be important clues about the way that people think."The Psychology of Surprise Endings In a recent episode of Hidden Brain on NPR, an intriguing exploration was conducted into the impact of plot twists on our brains. The half-hour story delves into various instances, such as parents capturing their children's reactions to movies like Star Wars and our collective obsession with M. Night Shyamalan's mind-bending narratives. Surprisingly, these twists and turns in storytelling have tangible physiological effects on us, indicating the powerful influence of plot development on our minds. The phenomenon of being easily deceived or tricked while watching movies provides valuable insights into the workings of our brains beyond the cinema.Vera Tobin, the author of "Elements of Surprise: Our Mental Limits and the Satisfactions of Plot," provided a thorough examination of the study. To explore the neuroscience behind plot twiFIND ME:My Website: https://motorcityhypnotist.com/podcastMy social media links: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/motorcityhypnotist/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCCjjLNcNvSYzfeX0uHqe3gATwitter: https://twitter.com/motorcityhypnoInstagram: motorcityhypnoFREE HYPNOSIS GUIDEhttps://detroithypnotist.convertri.com/podcast-free-hypnosis-guidePlease also subscribe to the show and leave a review.(Stay with me as later in the podcast, I'll be giving away a free gift to all listeners!)Change your thinking, change your life!Laugh hard, run fast, be kind. It's unlikely that they will be solved overnight. Change takes time and can be difficult. However, it's crucial to celebrate the small victories along the way to stay motivated and encouraged. To enhance your overall well-being and satisfaction, prioritize the important elements that provide comfort and joy in your life. But I like the definition provided by mentalhealth.gov (US Department of Health and Human Services): “Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.”Does Stigma Prevent People From Seeking Treatment? When we talk about stigma related to mental health issues, we are referring to a complex concept that encompasses negative beliefs, attitudes, and actions. These negative perceptions can lead to bias, prejudice, and discrimination against individuals who are dealing with mental health concerns. There is clear evidence from various large-scale surveys that stigma plays a significant role in preventing individuals from accessing appropriate mental health care. This stigma acts as a barrier, discouraging people from seeking the help they need. What is the Biggest Barrier to Ending Stigma?Ending stigma can be a challenging task, comparable to addressing issues like poverty, hunger, or war due to its deep-rooted nature. One of the major challenges we face when it comes to addressing mental health stigma is the lack of awareness among many individuals. Most people are not even aware that there is a problem with stigmatizing individuals with mental health issues. This lack of recognition hinders progress in tackling stigma effectively. What is the Most Effective Way to Combat Stigma?Raising awareness and providing education are crucial starting points in addressing stigma and its harmful impact on individuals. By spreading the word about the negative effects of stigma, we can help initiate meaningful change. Additionally, it is essential to gather personal accounts from those who have experienced mental health services to humanize the issue and give it a voice.NEXT EPISODE: Mental Health Q & A, Part 4Change your thinking, change your life!Laugh hard, run fast, be kind. This is something that requires careful consideration and respect for individual's unique circumstances. Is It Time to Put My Pet to Sleep? As your beloved pet ages or when a terminal illness advances, it can be difficult to cope with the thought of the end of their life. Deciding whether to have your pet euthanized at the vet's office or allow them to pass away naturally at home is a difficult task that can involve multiple factors. Your animal's temperament, level of pain; your own personal beliefs can all come into play in this choice. Coming to a conclusion about what's best for you and your pet is a deeply personal experience. If you have to eventually let them go, it's best to take some time and reflect on your decisions. Here are some queries that might help you make this tough decision.• Is your pet in pain?• Does your pet experience stress and anxiety when visiting the veterinary office?• Dealing with death can be difficult, especially if you have a hard time accepting it. It is important to consider your beliefs and perspectives about death, and how it affects you in order to effectively manage the grief associated with loss of your pet.• Will I be emotionally equipped to cope with watching their medical condition deteriorate?• Is the pain being effectively managed?• Have medical treatments proven to be ineffective in improving or curing their condition?Dr. Babette Gladstein, a vet who practices integrative veterinary medicine in the greater New York area, says, "Many people really have to think hard about whether they are keeping the animal alive for themselves or for the animal."In the United States, I have noticed many owners are often very quick to choose the euthanasia option. Many people think this is the only choice, or they may feel that allowing a pet to die at home is unacceptable. In other countries, pets often die at home, either because there is simply no other choice or they perceive deathFIND ME:My Website: https://motorcityhypnotist.com/podcastMy social media links: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/motorcityhypnotist/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCCjjLNcNvSYzfeX0uHqe3gATwitter: https://twitter.com/motorcityhypnoInstagram: motorcityhypnoFREE HYPNOSIS GUIDEhttps://detroithypnotist.convertri.com/podcast-free-hypnosis-guidePlease also subscribe to the show and leave a review.(Stay with me as later in the podcast, I'll be giving away a free gift to all listeners!)Change your thinking, change your life!Laugh hard, run fast, be kind. Bereavement is the state of being emotionally overwhelmed due to such loss and it is considered normal.Experiencing the death of a beloved one can be one of life's most devastating events, leaving a profound and lasting impact. When a beloved pet passes away, it is understandable to feel immense grief and sorrow due to the strong bond that has been created. A lot of people consider their furry friends to be as close as family members, so these emotions are perfectly normal.Relationships with our animalsThe grief experienced from the death of a beloved pet can be just as profound as the sorrow of losing a human family member. The bond between humans and animals is quite remarkable as they provide unconditional love and companionship. In return for their loyalty and companionship, we give our pets the love and care they need in order to thrive. Pets can provide us with a feeling of home, safety and identity. If we lose them, the disruption to our lives is significant; they keep our secrets and offer us unconditional love - no matter what.Losing a pet can be even more traumatic than losing a human loved-one. Human decline is left to run it's course and can lead to suffering, long term illness and pain, and often, we are relieved when our loved ones pass. The advantage of losing a pet is that we can sometimes choose the time of their passing to avoid long-term pain and illness. What does grief feel like?People often underestimate the depths of their sadness when expecting or dealing with the passing of a beloved pet. Grief can be emotionally overwhelming and can take a heavy toll on the mind & body of an individual. It may prove to be difficult to manage and cope with such intense emotions. Each person experiences grief in a different way. Even though kids and adults experience grief differently, children can feel grief as strongly as adults do.
