Writer/Director/Actor/Editor Benny Safdie is known for defying expectations and using his sense of humor to make a splash. He even once showed up on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon dressed all in silver, including painted silver hair and skin. So when we sat down with Safdie over Zoom to talk about his latest movie The Smashing Machine, we weren't sure what to expect. For this interview, however, there was no face paint or sparkly clothes, he was simply wearing a shirt that said, "Radical Empathy." Turns out there's a very important reason for the shirt. "Empathy should be cool, you know?" says Safdie. "And for this movie, I want to put you in the mind of somebody who looks invincible and you're going to feel their pain. You're going to feel what it's like to be them. You're going to be connected to them when you go in the ring. If you could be empathetic on such a deep level, where their feelings and emotions become your own, that's radical. That's a radical form of empathy. And that's what I was trying to do with the movie." Given what Safdie says, it's no secret that all great writing starts with radical empathy. On this episode of the podcast, we chat with him about his film The Smashing Machine starring Dwayne Johnson as UFC star Mark Kerr and Emily Blunt as his romantic partner Dawn. Safdie talks about his personal connection to boxing and MMA, why a narrative film can tell a much deeper story than a documentary, and the highly charged fighting between Mark and Dawn that took place out of the ring, and why they ultimately couldn't make their relationship work. Following a chaotic and unpredictable 2025 in the world of MMA, 2026 is shaping up to be even crazier — both in and out of the cage. Could this be a year that will see Conor McGregor actually fight in the UFC? Does Jon Jones return? Will Khamzat Chimaev keep his hands on UFC gold? On a very special edition of On To the Next One, those questions — and a lot more — are presented during the 2026 predictions extravaganza. Hosts Mike Heck and Alexander K. Lee will go through a slew of buy/sell questions presented by listeners about a variety of topics, including McGregor, Jones, Chimaev, Ilia Topuria, Francis Ngannou, Dana White, Tom Aspinall, Israel Adesanya, Nate Diaz, and much more. It's game day, but it doesn't feel like game day. With Jordan Love sitting, Clayton Tune starting, and the Packers locked into their playoff spot, Ryan breaks down what might be the strangest week in recent Packers memory—and why he's completely at peace with whatever happens against the Vikings. The Packers have made a staggering 16 roster moves and 6 practice squad transactions since December 26, including placing 8 players on injured reserve. Ryan goes position-by-position through the entire roster, analyzing who must play, who should sit, and where the depth simply doesn't exist. From the excitement of seeing Trayvon Diggs in green and gold to the reality of starting backups across the board, this episode covers it all. Ryan also makes the case for fundamentals over intensity, comparing NFL preparation to UFC fight camps and explaining why he wants players making "business decisions" today. Plus, a breakdown of the playoff scenarios that could send Green Bay to either Philadelphia or Chicago—and which matchup offers the safest path forward. We've gone through some pretty tough times in the UFC's biggest divisions recently. So it has to be asked, are we are currently in the worst eras at heavyweight or women's bantamweight for instance? And that prompts another question.. what WERE the worst eras in these divisions if not? And what was the best?
Today's guest is a lifelong athlete whose competitive spirit carried him from the wrestling mats of small-town North Dakota to the bright lights of the UFC Octagon. Chris Tuchscherer was raised in Rugby, North Dakota, where he built his foundation in wrestling, a discipline that would shape not only his athletic career, but his approach to life. After a standout high school run, he continued competing at North Dakota State University before transferring to Minnesota State University Moorhead, where he became a two-time NCAA Division II All-American. That same relentless drive propelled him into mixed martial arts. Known to fans as “The Crowbar,” Chris became a feared heavyweight with crushing wrestling, unshakable toughness, and a reputation for outworking anyone standing across from him. His impressive professional career earned him a spot on the sport's biggest stage, where he competed in the UFC against some of the division's most formidable names. Beyond the cage, Chris has remained deeply invested in the growth of combat sports in his home state. He founded Crowbar MMA and promoted regional MMA events in North Dakota, events I was lucky enough to be involved with as a judge. But stepping away from fighting didn't mean stepping away from competition. Staying true to his blue-collar roots, Chris shifted gears, literally, into IMCA dirt track racing, where he now brings the same intensity and passion he once showed in the cage. Alongside racing, he runs his agricultural businesses and remains closely connected to the communities that shaped him. A wrestler.A fighter.A racer.A businessman.A husband and a father. Please enjoy my interview with my friend Chris Tuchscherer.

I sat down with two-time UFC Champion TJ Dillashaw to discuss the "delusional optimism" and biohacking protocols, like stem cell therapy and zone two training, that fueled his legendary career and his recovery from a dark identity crisis. Now, we're diving into how he's applying that same championship grit to disrupt the supplement industry with Wild Society Nutrition, proving that the pursuit of excellence in business and longevity is the ultimate human journey.
