Today's podcast features Jeremy Frisch. Jeremy is the Director of Athletic Performance at Teamworks Sports Center in Acton, Massachusetts, specializing in youth athletic development. The former owner of Achieve Performance Training, Jeremy is a field leader in youth movement, physical literacy, and long-term athletic development. Jeremy has been a frequent podcast guest and is a source of constant inspiration for training not only younger athletes but those of all ages. We live within a broken modern sports system (in most countries). Much of sports performance, and athletic development follows suit. Formalized speed training designed for older athletes tends to get pushed down on children far too early. Athletes are continually denied the chance to be athletes, to be autonomous movers, decision makers, and experience the full joy of sport. Not only this, but in that deprivation, we cut ourselves off from the fullness of what we could consider speed training, for any athlete. On today's episode, Jeremy speaks on key principles to driving intent and multi-lateral ability in speed training for young athletes, and as they progress through their careers along with the pitfalls of early intensification and “speed training” kids like adults. He also covers many elements of athletic development, such as rhythm, crawling, rolling, strength training, and the development of aerial ability. All this, along with a discussion on the motivation factors of 80's training movies, was an enjoyable conversation with Jeremy Frisch that is fundamental to the long-term development of athletes. For just the second time in the show's history (and perhaps the last time), we are covering our namesake band, as we dive into the P.O.D. well once again to review their major-label debut, "The Fundamental Elements of Southtown". I'll say this: we like it a heck of a lot more than we did "Satellite". Doesn't stop us from finding lots to chew on here though, as Bryan remembers grappling with liking this album when it first came out with the fact the band was Christian, and we wonder how much that affected the general populace's enjoyment of them as well, as it's hard to like a Christian band in front of your friends. In 2023 without that context, there's quite a few great songs to be had, but it's also pretty front-loaded and limps to the finish line. We also take a look into Sonny's Christian missionary work, learn far too much about the "Miss Rocklahoma" Pageant, and we end the episode by discovering two of the most insane articles we've ever found doing this show, written by a devout Christian who spends roughly 30,000 words wondering just how Christian P.O.D. indeed are. If you want to become a more devout follower of this show, you can head on over to patreon.com/thepodkast, where $4/month gets you access to THREE bonus episodes every single month. Since the LA Lloyd Rock 30 began July 4, 2000, P.O.D. was one of the first bands to help launch the show. Move forward to 2022 when P.O.D. vocalist Sonny Sandoval and guitarist Marcos Curiel are always happy to sit down and chat with LA Lloyd. But for their 6th appearance, this one was very unique as it was recorded in the middle of the sea on the Shiprocked cruise. Many things will be covered in the interview including the many milestones reached by P.O.D. including the 20th anniversary of their platinum album Satellite. Also, the band talks about revisiting with legendary producer Howard Benson. As Sonny and Marcos reveal, Howard takes them in the studio to show them all of the many plaques he's received from other gold and platinum artists. But the one he's most proud of in the middle of the bunch is his first gold record he received as producer of P.O.D.'s album The Fundamental Elements of Southtown.
P.O.D. released its fourth studio album Satellite, a triple-platinum smash that remains the hard rock band's best-selling album. To celebrate the record's 20th anniversary, the San Diego-based group is hitting the road for its Satellite Tour and releasing a newly remastered version of Satellite, which has been expanded with rare and unreleased music. SATELLITE: 20th ANNIVERSARY EDITION will be available as a double-CD and digitally on September 3 for $24.98 and is available for pre-order now. Released a few days before the album's official anniversary on September 11, the 27-song collection introduces a newly remastered version of the original album, plus a selection of rarities, remixes, and four previously unreleased demos, including “Alive (Semi-acoustic Version),” available today. A few weeks later, on October 8, SATELLITE: 20th ANNIVERSARY EDITION will be released on vinyl as a double-LP as a part of Rhino's Rocktober campaign. P.O.D. enjoyed a taste of mainstream success in 1999 with the arrival of its third studio album – and major-label debut – The Fundamental Elements of Southtown. That platinum album primed the pump for an even more significant commercial breakthrough two years later with Satellite. After debuting at #6 on the Billboard 200, the record went on to sell more than seven million copies worldwide, including three million in the U.S. The record generated four singles: the title track, “Alive,” “Youth Of The Nation,” and “Boom.” In addition to its commercial success, Satellite also earned P.O.D. three Grammy® nominations for: “Alive” (Best Hard Rock Performance, 2002), “Portrait” (Best Metal Performance, 2003), and “Youth Of The Nation” (Best Hard Rock Performance, 2003). SATELLITE: 20th ANNIVERSARY EDITION has a bonus disc that includes b-sides like “Critic” and “Sabbath” that were initially released in Europe, plus remixes for “Boom” by The Crystal Method and “Youth Of The Nation” by Mike$ki.

Marketing can be overwhelming. But there's an easy way to simplify. On today's episode of the MORE podcast, Ricardo is joined by Tim Fitzpatrick, the president of Rialto Marketing, to learn Tim's three fundamental elements in marketing that guide his process and approach when working with clients. Tim didn't start in marketing. He got his start working at a wholesale distribution company, where he got hooked on entrepreneurship. After being laid off during the recession, Tim started working in residential real estate. And he didn't like it. After two and a half years, Tim thought about his skills and what he likes doing. And that led him to marketing. He founded Rialto Marketing in 2013, and since then, he's helped businesses and companies implement plans to reach the right people at the right time. The Marketing Strategy Trilogy: Target Market: Who your ideal clients are and how you will serve them. A clear, engaging message for that market. A plan. How will you get that message in front of your people? “Get the fundamentals down, and the level of everything you do will rise.” - Michael Jordan. You can't have long-term marketing success without a plan and the fundamentals in place. Every marketing professional, regardless of industry, should use those three pillars to develop a plan that leads to long-term success. You can reach a certain level of success without those steps. But just because it has happened doesn't mean you should aspire to it. From a fundamental standpoint, people overcomplicate marketing. Tim's approach keeps a focus on simplicity because complexity only makes implementation more challenging. Once you have these steps in place, marketing tactics become far easier. For example, if your company decides it wants to utilize Facebook Ads, you'll know who to target with those ads and what to say in the ad to get your audience to take action. When you know what you need to execute are, you'll find much more consistent and repeatable results. Tim's final advice? When you feel overwhelmed or want to alter your career trajectory, just focus on the next measurable step. That and, of course, focus on the fundamentals. Episode Resources and Tim's Book and Podcast Recommendations: Essentialism by Greg McKeown Business School hosted by Sharran Srivatsaa Tim built a landing page specifically for the audience of this show filled with resources and information that can help guide you as you use these fundamental steps. James has been around long enough to see a real change in the way most riders think about skills training. When he first started riding mountain bikes almost 15 years ago, skills training wasn’t something he had ever heard of, much less considered an important thing to do. Listen in as James walks you through a lot of valuable information that you need to improve your skills on the bike today! If you have any questions, comments, or ideas for the next episode, contact us at info@mountainbikeradio.com. We also have advertising opportunities available, just contact us. ---------------------------------------- From James: Fast forward to the end of 2014 and skills training has become extremely popular. Thousands of riders every year are attending some sort of skills training class or camp. Hundreds of thousands more are watching free skills training videos online. Almost every serious mountain biker now recognized the importance that improving their skills on the trail can play in improving their fun and safety on the trail. But this also means that a lot of riders are pretty frustrated with their lack of progress in that department as well. It seems that despite more riders than ever knowing “what” to do most riders I talk with still struggle to apply it consistently. The problem is that these riders are trying to build their skills on a weak foundation. By not addressing the physical qualities needed to improve their skills they can’t get much further. In the last part of my 5 Fundamental Elements of a Mountain Bike Training Program podcast series I explain how you can avoid this problem and avoid the frustration that comes with not being able to consistently improve your skills on the trail. Show Notes: Improving your skills can increase your speed, endurance, safety and “flow” on the trail. Skills Training works on being able to apply good movement while on the bike to maintain good balance on the trail. It ultimately boils down to a relationship between your center of gravity and your bikes center of gravity. If you can’t move well (Flexibility), you can’t produce adequate tension (Strength), you can’t easily do it with speed and power (Speed) and you can’t fuel it (Endurance) then you won’t see much progression with your Skills Training. Trouble with executing a skill is usually because you lack a fundamental movement or prerequisite skill, not because you don’t know what to do. Trying to learn how to corner before you really own your Body Position is a good example. Beware of “quick fixes” or advice based on a symptom of good technique instead of focusing on the cause of good technique. “Elbows Out” and “Outside Foot Down” are good examples of focusing on symptoms instead of causes. Learning how to make the mental connection between how you move in the gym and how you move on the bike is important to getting the most out of your program. This doesn’t mean that exercises have to look like what you do on the bike, though. 5 basic trail skills you need to work on: Body Position: This is your ability to achieve and maintain a strong, balanced body position on the bike with either foot forward (regular and switch-foot). It relates to your Horizontal Push and Hip Hinge movement pattern. Standing Pedaling: This is your ability to stand up and achieve a strong, balanced standing pedaling position. It is related to you Squat movement pattern. Seated Pedaling: This is your ability to achieve and maintain optimal position while sitting down to pedal. It is related to your Horizontal Push and Hip Hinge movement pattern. Manualing: This is your ability to use your hips to shift your weight back and lift from the end of your bike. It is the cornerstone skill for other skills like Bunny Hopping and Jumping. It is related to your explosive Hip Hinge movement pattern and requires excellent Body Position. Cornering: This is your ability to maintain optimal balance and position through a corner. It is related to your lateral Hip Hinge and requires excellent Body Position. This is also the order I advise that you focus on the skills: Take 4-6 weeks and focus on one skill before moving on. Use parking lot drills to help with the basics and use Skills Focus Rides to apply it all to the trail. Use flat pedals when trying to learn a new skill or push the envelope with a current skill to push it to the next level. You can’t learn how to do it all in a weekend, Skills Training is a lifelong pursuit that requires focus and a plan. It is important to understand how you can improve your skill development by filling in the movement and fitness gaps that are really holding you back. And once you see how your fitness and your skills are interconnected it starts to put training into a new perspective. A good mountain bike training program should improve your fitness and your skills. And the only way to do that is to make sure you have the 5 Fundamental Elements of a Mountain Bike Training Program covered in way that meets our needs on the trail. With the advice you’ve gotten from this podcast and the rest of them in this series, I hope you’ll be able to better do just that.
