Scott Carelli returns to talk comics, get political and answer listener mail. 00:01:57 - We discuss the idea of smoking in bars, and those who would prefer shipping smokers off to a leper colony, and then setting the colony on fire. 00:14:29 - Common sense does not prevail, causing John to lose a friend in the Geek Community. Scott relates to the situation with a story about the polarizing power of writer, J. Michael Straczynski. 00:19:34 - Can you recognize something as bad and still like it, or vice versa? When does that become too personal? 00:31:25 - John makes a joking reference to Gore Verbinski's American remake of The Ring. This results in discussion about the works of Ehren Kruger and the development of Scream 4. 00:34:32 - We cover the good, the bad and the ugly that is three seasons of AMC's, Breaking Bad. We also show some love for Rian Johnson. 00:45:28 - Catching up on listener mail, our good friend Marshal talks the Ginger Snaps trilogy, Slither and The Descent. 00:55:43 - Longtime fan Brian sends in his first letter, discussing The Dark Knight's snub from the Oscars, as well as some less than glowing opinions on the works of Joss Whedon. We share our favorite seasons and episodes of Angel, and talk about Joss making The Avengers. 01:11:57 - Hayden asks about John's potential participation in the returning audio series, Geek By Night. Consulting the magic 8-ball, (SPOILER ALERT!) "Don't count on it". 01:15:53 - Jason closes out the emails and the show by thanking us for previously mentioning Spaced on Hulu. The following artists can be heard in this episode: David Klein & Scott Schiaffo, The Dandy Warhols, The Jesus & Mary Chain, Solomon Burke & The Blind Boys Of Alabama, BoDeans, The House Of Love, Stockton, The Submarines, SoHo, TV On The Radio, Portishead, Star Ghost Dog, She Wants Revenge, Lush, Heavens, Say Hi To Your Mom, David Bowie and Faithless.

Everything you ever wanted to know about Geek By Night, but were afraid to ask. Scott Carelli (that's right) returns to the show. In this, the first sign of the coming apocalypse, Scott shares the ins and outs of his beloved audio series, why it was forced to be put down like a sick dog (it had rabies) and what this means for the future. There's even some comics and television talk thrown in, so as not to make this totally about us. 00:02:53 - John tells the epic tale of Will Ritchie: The Quest For Peace. Thankfully, there's no Nuclear Man in this particular story. 00:06:31 - John talks about the Valentine's Day episode of Couch Surfing you will never hear.   00:09:36 - You may not believe it at first, but if ever you're in need of a reality check, your true friends are there for you.   00:14:01 - Scott sets the record straight on why Geek By Night was canceled. 00:17:26 - John and Scott discuss when good fandoms go bad. 00:21:02 - John weighs in on the recasting of Elliot Markowitz. Couch Surfing Episode 13 - We Ain't Been ShavedGibson and Elliot record a podcast! Well, sort of. Episode thirteen of Couch Surfing supplies John with Chris O'Connor from Geek By Night, filling in as Scott's replacement. Thanks to John and YouTube, Chris discovers the modern vampire cult classic, Near Dark. Civil rights advocate and NRA spokesman, Charlton Heston has unfortunately passed away, but at least the world still has epic favorites like Ben-Hur and Planet Of The Apes to remember him by. Remakes of both Dune and Short Circuit are currently in the works, which leads to a discussion about how robots will eventually rise to power and crush us all. Lionsgate may soon give The Monster Squad the High Definition treatment, even though John is still hopeful for Night Of The Creeps to be released on DVD soon. Chris has a substantial theory concerning Versus Movies, but is distracted when he learns of Armageddon in The Criterion Collection. The episode concludes with a possible correlation between African-American Presidents and movies about world destruction. Keep those co-host requests coming, folks. The following artists can be heard in this episode: Don Felder, Bear McCreary, Tangerine Dream, Joe Kraemer, Brian Tyler, Brian Eno, Styx, MC Lars Horris, The Platters, The Diamonds, The Perishers, Blondie, The Martinis, Heavens, Sum 41, Slowdive and Kaiser Chiefs.

The season of Fall is upon us. Lisa Tobias returns again to the show. That can only mean one thing: It's time for the Couch Surfing podcast, baby! It feels good to be back in the swing of things.00:02:28 - Lisa is enjoying the updated version of 90210. John is indifferent.00:05:35 - The Fringe pilot caused unintentional laughter from John, but Joshua Jackson is a bad-ass, so he's going to keep watching.00:15:16 - True Blood was a bit of a letdown for Lisa, but she's still on board. John is reminded of Sundown, starring Bruce Campbell.00:19:34 - John is finally watching Six Feet Under. So far, he's not impressed, finding much of Alan Ball's work cold and one-note.00:27:52 - Free DVD rentals from the Library are exposing John to mediocre entertainment such as the Amityville Horror remake and Babel, but he strongly recommends the special edition of David Cronenberg's The Fly.00:35:55 - Be sure to pick up the long overdue special releases of Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club and Weird Science this month!00:38:12 - At the end of this month, keep an eye out for the tenth anniversary release of Can't Hardly Wait. Hopefully, we'll get to see more of Amber Benson in the film!00:40:05 - While trying to catch up on Bones online, John has to deal with his first ever serious virus on his computer. A system recovery (F10) was performed. Everything is fine, now.00:42:25 - Due to the computer virus, John had to read stuff (!). When all is said and done, he finishes the novelization of Can't Hardly Wait, but was left kind of bored with the Brian Michael Bendis graphic novel, Powers: Who Killed Retro Girl? (Answer: The Butler did it. Just kidding.)00:45:36 - John is curious to check out the reboot of Geek By Night, and recommends listeners to do the same. He wonders how much of his input remains in the show, if any.00:49:38 - A shout out to Geek By Night and Buffy Between The Lines alum, Rachel Ruzzo.00:55:51 - We get our Neil Patrick Harris fix by watching Harold & Kumar: Escape From Guantanamo Bay.01:02:11 - John & Lisa are hopeful they can take Tim Minear up on his offer to be on the show soon (call us, Tim! Let's do cyber lunch!).01:03:04 - The show wraps with Lisa recounting her experience at Dragon Con. NOTE: Sorry we didn't have time to get to listeners' emails. The fifteenth episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer's second season is all about "Phases". I'm joined by Paul Maki, from Geek By Night. It seems that Sunnydale is in the cycle of the full moon. A werewolf takes this as an opportunity to go trolling for late night snacks. It's up to Buffy and her friends to stop the big, bad wolf from eating civilians, or worse yet, making more of its kind. And on a completely unrelated note (I covered that up pretty nicely), Willow and Oz are making moon eyes at each other.Join Paul and I as we talk about continuity errors, visible crew members, exposition and expensive globes. That's right, globes. Please listen for the preemptive countdown before starting the episode on your DVD.

Finally: the ninth episode from season two of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, What's My Line? (Part 1). Joining me for this two-part event is Rachel Gatlin, from Geek By Night. It's Career Day at Sunnydale High, and Buffy is considering a job in law enforcement. Meanwhile, Spike and Drusilla send three assassins after the Slayer. Rachel and I discuss the difficulty of ice skating, the meaning behind whacky neckties, the importance of potassium, and bad Jamaican accents. All the while, the battle of the hair rages on: Buffy Summers vs. Rachel Green. As is generally the case with these commentaries, please listen for the preemptive countdown before starting the episode on your DVD.
