Recent research from the University of Chicago shows that only 14% of cancers in the U.S. are diagnosed after the patient had a recommended screening test. 57% of diagnosed cancers do not have screening tests and account for 70% of all cancer-related deaths. 86% of cancer cases still go undiagnosed after recommended screenings. 16M+ life years saved in the U.S. from early-detection screenings. I don't know about you, but everytime I read those stats, my jaw hits the floor. When it comes to cancer, early detection is key to saving lives. With 610,000+ cancer deaths in the U.S. each year, most of which stemming from cancer types with no FDA-approved screening options, new technology is making revolutionary strides in detecting cancers that have been previously undetectable in early stages. There are now new tools intended to be used complementary to established cancer screening assessments. However in some cases, especially for cancer types that have no previously established screening test and are notoriously hard to detect, it may be the only warning sign currently available for providers. In this week's episode of the Everything Epigenetics podcast, Dr. Joshua Routh and I talk about just that. We discuss the rising cancer burden and the cutting-edge role epigenetics plays in revolutionizing early cancer detection. Dr. Routh, a molecular genetic pathologist and medical director at Precision Epigenomics, shares insights into how new diagnostics, such as Multi-Cancer Detection (MCD) tests, provide opportunities to catch cancers earlier than ever before. We also explore the technology behind these tests, their impact on patient outcomes, and what the future holds for epigenetics in diagnosing and treating cancer and other chronic diseases. You'll learn about:Dr. Joshua Routh's journey from engineering to molecular oncology. The alarming statistics behind late-stage cancer diagnoses and why early detection is critical.Current cancer screening limitations and how epigenomics offers better solutions. How Multi-Cancer Detection (MCD) tests like EPISEEK work to catch cancer earlier. The difference between EPISEEK by Precision Epigenomics and Galleri by Grail. Why test accuracy mattersWhat to expect if you get a positive cancer result and how recurrence monitoring works. The broader future of epigenetics in treating conditions like heart disease and neurological disorders.Chapters:00:10 - Introduction to Dr. Joshua Routh and His Career Journey04:48 - The Growing Cancer Burden and Challenges in Screening09:00 - How Epigenomics is Transforming Early Cancer Detection13:12 - Multi-Cancer Detection Tests: What Are They?18:22 - EPISEEK by Precision Epigenomics vs. Galleri: Comparing the Leading Tests25:27 - Cancer Therapy Resistance and the Role of EpigenetSupport the showWhere to Find Us:Instagram Twitter Facebook Follow us on:Apple Podcast Spotify YouTube Visit our website for more information and resources: everythingepigenetics.com Thank you for joining us at the Everything Epigenetics Podcast and remember you have control over your Epigenetics, so tune in next time to learn more about how to harness this knowledge for your benefit.

A year ago I wrote the following post in answer to a question from several authors. Last week I decided to test the post below against a number of websites that claim to be able to tell whether a blog post, article, student paper, or other writing was written by a human or created by an A.I. engine. Below my blog post, you'll see the results of my little experiment on the questions: Am I a human? Or am I just an A.I. bot?Book Marketing Question: Why is marketing my book so hard?During the past few weeks I've had a number of authors write me to complain about how hard it is to market a book. Well, gosh, it is hard. It's hard to write a book. It's hard to publish a book. It's hard to carry out a book marketing plan. It's hard to do Internet marketing. It's hard to keep up with social media. Life is hard.If it were easier, everyone would write a book. If it were easier, everyone would publish a book.Thank God, it isn't easy. Otherwise there would be so much competition that marketing would be even harder. Social media would be even harder. Everything would be harder.Thank God, it's just hard, not harder. Now, having said that, don't forget that I'm the Book Marketing Ambassador of Fun!If you don't want writing a book to be hard, then write from your heart. If you don't want publishing a book to be hard, then publish from your passions. If you don't want marketing a book to be hard, build relationships from the heart.Share with others. Accept their offerings of help. Help others in return. Give, give, and then give some more. That's the most fundamental law of marketing books.A.I. ResultsBelow are five highly touted websites that are supposed to be able to tell whether something is written by a human or by an A.I. bot. How did these five website view my blog post above? See for yourself:Content Scale: https://contentatscale.ai/ai-content-detector reported that my blog post is 100% human created. Give Content Scale an A!Copy Leaks: https://copyleaks.com/ai-content-detector reported that my blog post is human text. Give Copy Leaks an A!GPTZero: https://GPTZero.me reported that my blog post is almost all written by A.I. Give GPTZero a big fat F!Undetectable: https://undetectable.ai reported the following: Your content is detected as written by A.I. Give Undetectable a big fat F!Zero GPT: https://www.zerogpt.com reported my blog post as 23.15 A.I. generated, Give Zero GPT a B at best! But probably a C would be more appropriate.Do you write as a human? Or as an A.I. bot? You can use the above websites to find out how your writing rates. Just beware. 3 our of 5 of the above services judged my writing as A.I. created. A big mistake. According to HIV.gov, human immunodeficiency virus, otherwise known as HIV, is a virus that attacks cells that help the body fight infection, making a person more vulnerable to other infections and diseases. If left untreated, HIV may lead to the disease AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome). In 2020, more than 30,000 people received an HIV diagnosis in the United States. From 2016 to 2019, the annual number of new diagnoses decreased 8%. And it is estimated that nearly 1.2 million people in the US had HIV by the end of 2019. (https://www.cdc.gov/hiv/basics/statistics.html) With proper treatment, people can and do live long lives with HIV without developing AIDS. Current medical technology includes HIV medication that can lower the virus to undetectable levels in one's body. In these terms, being "undetectable" means HIV cannot be passed on to others. (https://hivcare.org/hiv-basics) In this episode of MESEARCH, Krystle's best friend, Patrick Asence, is a guest. Patrick is a gay Filipino American who was diagnosed with HIV in 2016 and currently lives "undetectable." He speaks to Dustin and Krystle about his experience getting to undetectable HIV status; how it has changed his outlook on life; and why he is excited for the future. The federal government wants to end the existence of “untraceable” firearms - and this is nothing new under the sun. But if we adopted the attitude of the founders and old revolutionaries, all guns would be “undetectable” to the government. HIV diagnoses affect different people differently. For Tarik, his partner's diagnosis found him ostracized from his family, and his own diagnosis years later threw him into a downward spiral of depression. For Shareef, his HIV diagnosis was what drew his estranged and formerly homophobic father back into his life. In the end, both were able to use their status as a source of strength, rather than a detriment. In this episode, Phil and Alex discuss these stories and are joined by HIV advocate and activist Dimitri Moïse for a discussion of the impacts of stigma and pozphobia, the need for more affirming representation, and the importance of education and support.
