Stāsta dziedātāja, vokālā pedagoģe Una Stade Vārds gospel tulkojumā nozīmē "labā vēsts" – gospelis ir Jaunās Derības evaņģēlijs, kurā stāstīts par Jēzus dzīvi, nāvi un augšāmcelšanos. Anglosakšu protestantu liturģiskajai tradīcijai saplūstot ar afrikāņu mutvārdu mantojumu, izveidojās afroamerikāņu reliģiskā mūzika. 19. gadsimtā afroamerikāņu baznīcās sāk dziedāt spričuelus – garīgos dziedājumus, kuros, līdzīgi kā protestantu korāļos, tika izmantoti Bībeles stāsti un tematika. Gospelis, kādu to pazīstam mūsdienās, radies 20. gadsimta sākumā, pateicoties komponistiem Čārlzam Tindlijam (Charles Albert Tindley) un Tomasam Dorsijam (Thomas A. Dorsey). Dorsijs strādāja Čikāgas svētceļnieku baptistu baznīcā un uzsvēra, ka neredz lielu atšķirību starp blūzu un baznīcas mūziku. Viņš komponēja un aranžēja tūkstošiem reliģisku dziesmu un iedrošināja draudzus iesaistīties dziesmās ar plaudēšanu, roku celšanu un gospeļa žanram raksturīgajiem izsaucieniem. Arī par pirmo gospeļdziedātāju paaudzi sauktie žanra pamatlicēji – Sallija Martina (Sallie Martin), Mahālija Džeksone (Mahalia Jackson), Džeimss Klīvlends (James Cleveland) – mācījušies tieši pie Dorsija. Gospeļmūzikai ir bijusi arī nozīmīga politiska loma afroamerikāņu pilsonisko tiesību kustībā. Dažādi gospeļmūzikas izpildītāji ceļoja kopā ar Martinu Luteru Kingu (Martin Luther King), dziedot gospeļa dziesmas. Savukārt par gospeļa karalieni sauktā Mahālija Džeksone ne tikai iedrošināja Luteru Kingu vājuma brīžos, telefona klausulē dziedot dziesmas, bet arī jūtot viņa satraukumu pirms leģendārās runas I have a dream jeb "Man ir sapnis". Viņa uzsaukusi: "Pastāsti viņiem par sapni!" Gospeļmūzika ir iedvesmojusi ne vienu vien populārās mūzikas superzvaigzni – Elviss Preslijs skrējis uz baznīcu jau kopš bērnu dienām un atdarinājis gospeļkora balsis un kustības, Bejonse (Beyonce) šo mūziku nosaukusi par pašu spēcīgāko mūziku, savukārt Kanje Vests (Kanye West) izveidojis gospeļkori Sunday Service Choir. Latvijā gospeļmūzika attīstījusies salīdzinoši nesen. Jaunākais gospeļkoru saimē ir Rīgas Doma kora skolas gospeļkoris, kurš radies 2018. gadā Unas Stades vadībā. Korī dzied un muzicē gan džeza, gan mūziklu nodaļas audzēkņi, kurus vieno mīlestība uz mūziku un kā svarīga sastāvdaļa šajā korī ir garīgo jautājumu apskatīšana caur dziesmu. Koris par savu misiju uzskata dalīšanos ar dzīvesprieku un gaišumu, ko sniedz gospeļmūzika. 20 gadu jubileju šogad svinēja GG Choir, kurš radās, pateicoties dziedātājam Gunāram Kalniņam, kurš ar mūziku tieši Ziemassvētku laikā vēlējās priecēt ļaudis bērnu namos, pansionātos un sociālās aprūpes namos. Kora dibinātājs uzsver, ka tieši šie ir bijuši sirdi sildošākie un patiesākie koncerti. Koris uzstājies arī ar dažādiem Latvijā pazīstamiem māksliniekiem: "Prāta vētru", Intaru Busuli, Reini Sējānu, Donu, Aiju Andrejevu un joprojām aktīvi darbojas Elīnas Zāģeres vadībā. Rīgas gospeļkoris savu pirmo koncertu nodziedāja 2003. gadā un jau no tā pirmsākumiem par savu pamatu uzskata tieši ticību un kristīgo tradīciju. Koris aktīvi attīsta žanru koncertējot, piedaloties festivālos, organizējot meistarklases un arī festivālu Sing Gospel, Latvia! Gospeļkora vadītāja Kristīne Prauliņa stāsta: "Šī mūzika ir ļoti garīgi spēcīga un pirmkārt šis koris ir kā draudze, kā komūna, kas nāk kopā, lai stiprinātu viens otru un klausītāju ticībā. Šis koris ir mana dzīves lielākā svētība ārpus manas ģimenes un mājām. Tā ir otrā ģimene! Katrs mēģinājums ir atgādinājums par Dieva spēku un žēlastību, un katrs koncerts ir svētki!"  A CRITICAL TIME FOR THE SAINTS, Part 2 of Chapter 5 of The Church and The Gospel  Pages 58 to 65  President Taylor's statement that “many of the Saints would apostatize because of this principle” came to pass just a year later. On June 30, 1887, a convention was held for the purpose of creating a constitution in the event Utah became a state. Although not the first effort in this direction, it was significant because of the willingness of the Mormons themselves to forbid polygamy and punish those who lived it. Orson F. Whitney said that “The movement was especially notable from the fact that it was proposed by the Mormons—the Gentiles refusing to take any part in the proceedings.” (History of Utah 3:583) The convention continued for a week, until July 7th. As a result, a constitution was framed and adopted, including the following provision: Section 12 (of Article XV). Bigamy and polygamy being considered incompatible with a republican form of government, each of them is hereby forbidden and declared a misdemeanor. Any person who shall violate this section shall, on conviction thereof, be punished by a fine of not more than one thousand dollars, and by imprisonment for a term of not less than six months, nor more than three years, in the discretion of the court. (History of Utah, Whitney, 3:584) The election occurred on Monday, the 1st of August [1887]. The count of the votes cast showed the following result: For the Constitution..  13,195 Against the Constitution..   502 (Ibid., p. 585) The Saints had spoken! John Taylor's prophecy was already being fulfilled. The vote demonstrated a ratio of 27 to 1 against plural marriage. The Saints had reversed their position in 35 years.

V Slovenski hiši v Buenos Airesu v Argentini bo v nedeljo žegnanje ob 50. obletnici blagoslovitve cerkve Marije Pomagaj. Sveto mašo bosta darovala škofa slovenskih korenin Andrej Stanovnik in Vinko Bokalič, pri maši in v akademiji po njej bodo sodelovali štirje slovenski zbori, nam je povedal slovenski duhovnik v Buenos Ariesu Robert Brest. To nedeljo pa bo slovesno tudi pri Gospe Sveti na avstrijskem Koroškem. V veličastni in naši najstarejši romarski cerkvi bodo potekale tradicionalne slovenske šmarnice. Sveto mašo ob 11.30 bo daroval rektor Jože Kopeinig, sledil bo koncert duhovnih pesmi z MePZ Gorotan Šmihel in MoPZ D. Jenko Cerklje na Gorenjskem, ob 15.00 bo slovesne šmarnice vodil Slavko Thaler.

Mnogi vjernici katolici u Bosni i Hercegovini i širom svijeta čekaju odluku Vatikana o autentičnosti prijavljenih vizija Marije, Isusove majke, koje su započele 1981. godine u hercegovačkom Međugorju, kada je šest tinejdžera prijavilo ukazanje Gospe. Kako će Vatikan odlučiti o Međugorju, jos je nejasno, a kardinal Fernandez kaže da očekuje da će odluka biti donesena uskoro.

My wife, Jenny, has just a few shows that she records and does not miss. One of these is the show “Survivor,”  a “reality” game show in which people are “marooned” on an island where they compete for a million dollars at the end of the season. It's now in its 44th season. The show uses an elimination system, where contestants in teams compete in a variety of challenges,  and then are made to vote off other tribe members until only one contestant remains and becomes the "Sole Survivor."Why is Survivor so popular? One reason, I think, is that in some ways “Survivor” has become a study of our culture. Anymore, it seems like the goal in life is to just survive, to get by - trying our hardest to stay afloat without getting voted off the island.What is life? A cynic would say that life is a series of the struggle of sin, relational issues, the feeling of being overwhelmed, not knowing if our lives truly matter in this world or not. But what if God intended for us to go deeper than just merely surviving? What if there was something MORE for us to experience?This is what we read in the last part of Luke's Gospe l- it's what happens to a group of disciples who seem to have lost their way. Even having been enlightened in regard to the resurrection, it took one more encounter with Jesus for them to catch what the resurrection was supposed to mean for them. They needed to see what it meant to truly be resurrection people.

No matter what happens, the Lord will always be at our side.

Fotografska razstava, ki poziva k opredeljevanju do darovanja organov Gospe Anji Garbajs so pred sedmimi leti presadili jetra. Zdaj z družino živi polno življenje, uspešna je tudi karierno. O preživeti življenjski izkušnji in tudi težki preizkušnji se je danes z njo pogovarjal Iztok Konc. Gospa Garbajs je namreč ena od avtoric fotografske razstave z naslovom »Moja brazgotina, moje življenje«, ki so jo za jutrišnji Evropski dna darovanja organov in tkiv odprli v avli ljubljanskega Kliničnega centra. V Sloveniji na presaditev jeter, ledvic, srca ali katerega drugega organa trenutno čaka 155 bolnic in bolnikov. Zdravljenje odpovedi organov, razen ledvic, ne bi bilo možno brez darovalcev in prostovoljnega darovanja organov. Spodbuda k aktivni opredelitvi za ali tudi proti darovanju je sporočilo jutrišnjega Evropskega dne darovanja organov in tkiv. Postopek opredelitve glede darovanja je enostaven, hiter in varen. »Vsi, to je vtis, ki ga človek zadobi, so oblečeni v indijsko nošo, moški v dhoti, ženske v sari. Moški in ženske imajo vse barve na sebi – rožnato in rumeno in zeleno in vijoličasto in rdečo. Tudi to opazovanje sem mi je od vsega začetka vsiljevalo, kako umirjena in elegantna je hoja najbolj preprostih žena – vsaka princezinja jim lahko zavida radi te naravne gracijoznosti.« To je eden izmed prvih vtisov o Indiji, ki jih je v svojem popisu dolge poti, ki jo je na začetku 30-ih let prejšnjega stoletja iz Evrope vodila na Podcelino, zapisala redovnica Miriam Zalaznik, ki je nato v Indiji živela in kot misijonarka delovala več kot pol stoletja. Nekoliko drugačni pa so bili po vsem sodeč prvi vtisi njenega misijonarskega kolega, Stanka Poderžaja, ki je v Indijo sicer prišel kakšno leto za Miriam Zalaznik, pa tudi sam ostal dolga desetletja. Tule je drobec iz njegovega pisanja o prihodu na Podcelino: »Kakšen pogled! […] Tu je ves dan semenj. Pred nizkimi hišami, iz katerih vsakega kota govorita revščina in zanikrnost, stoje v dolgih vrstah možje in žene in od ranega jutra do poznega večera prodajajo zelenjavo, sadje in vse, kar se rabi v preprosti indijski kuhinji.« Kjer torej Zalaznik vidi razkošje barv in gracioznost Indijk, Poderžaj vidi revščino in zanikrnost. A ta razlika v obeh pogledih nas pravzaprav ne sme presenetiti – tak je vsaj vtis, ki ga dobimo, če beremo še svežo znanstveno razpravo Potovanje v Indijo, ki je izšla pod okriljem Znanstveno-raziskovalnega središča Koper in v kateri njeni avtorici, dr. Helena Motoh, podrobno analizirata in interpretirata potopisa obeh naših misijonarjev, da bi ugotovili, kaj je pred stoletjem Indija predstavljala Evropejcem in kakšna je podoba Evropejcev, ki jo razkrije ogledalo, ki jim ga Podcelina pač nastavi. Dr. Jelnikar z Inštituta za antropološke in prostorske študije ZRC SAZU in dr. V naš skupnostni kulturno-zgodovinski spomin se je vpisalo kar nekaj misijonarjev. V tem kontekstu najbrž velja omeniti vsaj tri. Najprej je tu Ignacij Knoblehar, ki je sredi 19. stoletja deloval v Sudanu, raziskoval zgornji tok Belega Nila in zbral pomembno zbirko etnografskih predmetov ljudstva Bari, ki jo danes hrani Slovenski etnografski muzej. Potem je tu Friderik Irenej Baraga, ki je – prav tako sredi predprejšnjega stoletja – misijonaril med severnoameriškimi staroselci in spisal slovnico in slovar očipvejskega jezika, s čimer je Očipvejcem postal nekakšen Primož Trubar. Spominjamo se tudi Ferdinanda Avguština Hallersteina, ki je sredi 18. stoletja deloval na Kitajskem, se tam celo uveljavil kot dvorni astronom in visok cesarski uradnik. No, pred nedavnim pa je pri Znanstveni založbi Filozofske fakultete Univerze v Ljubljani izšla knjiga Marko Anton Kappus – slovenski jezuit na koncu Novega sveta; gre za zanimivo in obsežno znanstveno delo, pod katerega so se podpisali Maja Šabec, Tomaž Nabergoj, Igor Maver in Ana Cecilia Prenz Kopušar, in v luči katerega se zdi, da bi morali Slovenci med misijonarje, ki jih je vredno pomniti, nujno prišteti tudi rojaka iz Kamne Gorice pri Radovljici, ki je že na prelomu iz 17. v 18. stoletje deloval na severozahodu današnje Mehike. S čim se je torej Marko Anton Kappus zapisal v zgodovino? – To je vprašanje, ki nas je zaposlovalo v tokratnem Kulturnem fokusu, ko smo pred mikrofonom gostili dva izmed štirih avtorjev monografije o Kappusu – hispanistko in predavateljico na ljubljanski Filozofski fakulteti, dr. Majo Šabec, in zgodovinarja in arheologa iz Narodnega muzeja Slovenije, dr. Tomaža Nabergoja. Somewhere along the line, Christianity as a religion replaced being a Bible believer who heard, received and believed the gospel of the grace of God. If you think that Christianity and the gospel are one and the same, they are not. Christianity exists in our day in denominational buckets that come in such flavors as cults, fringe groups, counterfeits and Laodicean has-beens mixed in with the true Bible believers so that the whole thing has become one, big, fat end times mess. But there is a solvent for this stain, and it's called the King James Bible. Go to church, any church, on any given Sunday and take careful note of what you see and hear  there. In fact, write it down so it remains crystal-clear in your mind. Then open your King James Bible and read places like Thessalonians, Corinthians, Galatians and Timothy and compare your church experience to what is recorded in the Book that all Christian claim to follow. Now be honest, whatever church you went to is lightyears away from what is recorded in your King James Bible, and there's a reason for that. The reason is in our day, the Laodicean Church Age, we have "christianity" but precious little Bible preaching and teaching of doctrine. Christianity saves no one, attending church, any church, does not keep you out of Hell, but the believing the gospel of the grace of God absolutely does. And after you get saved, you are tasked with, not bringing people to church, but bringing lost people the same gospel that saved you.
