Viņš sevi jau vairākkārt teātrī pierādījis, nupat kā tapusi monoizrāde „Sākums” par šaubām un pārdomām, kas piepilda viņa prātu, un iespējams, tas ir aktuāli arī citiem jauniem cilvēkiem. Radošājā telpā “Kurtuve”, Valmierā, Kristaps uz skatuves stājas viens. Viņam apkārt nav spilgtu dekorāciju, tikai uz skatuves ar līmlentu novilkta strīpa. Te Araroa börjar vid den norra punkten på norra ön och när vi checkar in med Sigrid har hon nått halvvägs mot den södra punkten på södra ön av Nya Zealand. Hon har även gått hela Pacific Crest Trail och det är den vandringen vi pratar mest om. Marija är nämligen lite sugen på att om några år ge sig ut på ett sånt här äventyr. PCT är en vandringsled som startar på gränsen mellan Mexico/USA och går längs hela västkusten upp till Canada. Na začetku romana Za nagrado bi morda predvidevali, da bo pisateljica Semira Osmanagić razgrnila svoj kritični pogled na delovanje komisije, ki ima zadnjo besedo in z literarno nagrado ovenča izbranko ali izbranca. Roman pa je vsekakor še marsikaj drugega. Že res, da spregovori o merilih za podeljevanje časti, ki jo na koncu doživi en sam književnik, toda roman je hkrati neke vrste literarizirana študija človeških nravi, predvsem nadvse duhovito in s humorjem in ironijo obloženo pisanje v dobrem pomenu besede. Oris značajev članov komisije nakazuje predvsem to, da je človek nekakšno dvojno bitje: eno sta njegova zunanja podoba in ravnanje, kadar je okoli sebe obkrožen z ljudmi, nekaj čisto drugega pa je njegov notranji svet. Pisateljica iskrivo in v izbranem slogu piše o tem, kako visoko lahko poletijo človekove misli in kakšno neverjetno moč ima domišljija. Kar je v realnosti neuresničljivo, se v domišljijskem svetu primeri z lahkoto in seže zelo daleč, tako rekoč kamor koli. V poletu fantazije nekdo, ki se mu v stvarnosti bolj malo posreči, postane zmagovalec, osvajalec in uspešnež. Ni se treba obvladovati in si postavljati mej, saj je mogoče skoraj vse. Morda pa je potem pristanek na trdnih tleh toliko bolj neprijeten. V spletu okoliščin se člani komisije drug pred drugim razgalijo in razkrijejo slabosti, ki so jih vse življenje skrivali, toda to se zgodi samo za hip, saj kaj kmalu spet postanejo ugledni in vsevedni razsojevalci, ki odločajo o kakovosti sodobne slovenske književnosti. Sprašujejo se, ali je to, kar prebirajo in vrednotijo, nekakšno stopicanje na mestu. Treba bi bilo stopiti korak naprej, če že ne naprej, pa vsaj na stran. Eden od njih se zamisli: »Takrat ga v želodcu nekaj zbode, v misli mu trešči predstava, ki si jo je zadnjič ogledal, Gaza in enormno trpljenje, ki se tam dogaja, medtem ko se ukvarjamo z našimi prozaičnimi ali manj prozaičnimi zadevami. Bi o tem načel debato, preden izberejo tekst? Čudno, v nobenem tekstu tega danes aktualnega dogajanja ni. Nima smisla, saj nič ne morejo spremeniti, zakaj bi to omenjali, pa še težje bodo izbrali, če padejo v še bolj duhamorno razpoloženje.« Domiselna posebnost literarnega dela Za nagrado je roman v romanu. Vsak član komisije mora izbrati po tri romane, o katerih je prepričan, da so se avtorju ali avtorici najbolj posrečili. Ne prikrivajo tega, da imajo prednost že znani pisci, toda večina se navduši nad pisateljem z neznanim imenom, nekom, ki piše dobro, vendar o njem še ni bilo ničesar slišati. Nekaj strani tega dela je mogoče tudi spoznati. Bodo znani in z javnimi priznanji povzdignjeni pisatelji zaradi takšne izbire nejevoljni? Ali je bolje vse skupaj storiti s čim manjšim trudom in nagraditi imenitneže, ki so nagrad že vajeni? Priznajo si, da takšne obilice knjig, ki se vsako leto razbohoti na knjižnem tržišču, ni mogoče prebrati od prve do zadnje strani. Pet članov komisije, dve ženski in trije moški, mora izreči oceno o kar šestinpetdesetih rokopisih. Ljudje pišejo kot obsedeni, veliko imajo povedati, bralcev, pravzaprav bralk, pa je čedalje manj. K sreči s komisijo sodeluje referent, ki opravlja pomožna opravila, med vsemi pa je prav on najbolj vzoren in natančen bralec ter veliko ve o literaturi in njenem pomenu. Zadnjo besedo bodo, če se bodo seveda poenotili, izrekli različni ljudje, tako rekoč primerki, v katerih sta združena duh in telo, se pravi pojavne oblike bogate notranjosti in težave, ki jih kdaj pa kdaj povzročijo človekovi organi in telesni deli. Telo ima svojo pamet in mu je čisto vseeno, če se upre prav tedaj, kadar se skupina ukvarja z globokoumnimi zadevami. Tako duh kot telo sta zahtevna gospodarja. Članstvo v komisiji je začasno, saj imajo posamezniki tudi svoje skrbi, na primer kujavo družico, pomanjkanje samozavesti, uporništvo brez razloga ali utemeljeno postavljanje po robu vsakomur in vsemu in ne nazadnje nezmožnost in nemoč, da bi sami napisali kaj tehtnega. Prebrali so skladovnice knjig in so o marsičem dobro poučeni. Nekdo od njih ve naslednje: »Saj ve, da je vse že napisano, vse že povedano, ve pa tudi, da obstajajo novi prijemi, novi načini, kako predstaviti kaj novega, če ne novega, pa vsaj rahlo nepričakovanega.« Marsikateremu neizbranemu piscu se bo zgodila krivica, tudi moški spol bo prevladal nad ženskim, toda nagrada, ki jo podeljuje časopisna hiša, je ena sama. Zmagovalca bodo mediji slavili, seveda ne pretirano dolgo, našel se bo kdo, ki bo njegovo delo hlastno prebral, zlasti kak zavistnež. Knjigi Za nagrado so dodane barvne fotografije, ki jih je posnel neodvisni umetnik, fotograf in založnik Tadej Vaukman. V fotografsko oko ujete podobe so dopolnilo vsebine romana, sočasno pa imajo svojo lastno zgodbo, saj pisateljica na primer nikjer ne navede, da bi člani komisije na mizo moleli gole noge. Med precej slabo razpoloženimi in zaskrbljenimi osebami je mogoče prepoznati igralca Marka Mandića, tudi tokrat razgaljenega, vendar je na eni od fotografij njegovo golo telo videti samo do pasu. Jezikoslovec, prevajalec in glasbenik Primož Vitez je v spremni besedi v zgoščeni obliki podal poglavitno sporočilo romana Za nagrado in poudaril, da je tekst kritičen do literature na splošno, prav tako sodobne slovenske, v kateri manjka humorja in prave družbene vrednosti, očitna pa je hiperprodukcija. Besedilo je napisano v zajetnih proznih blokih in v očitni fascinaciji nad jezikom in pripovednim potencialom, ki ga jezik omogoča. K temu lahko dodamo, da Semira Osmanagić v svojem pisanju podaja resnice našega časa, odete v šegavost in prepredene z zabavnimi domislicami. Tudi resnih tem se je mogoče lotevati s prijazno zbadljivostjo in prizanesljivo kritičnostjo.

Govorili bomo o prazniku luči in srečanja z Gospodom. To je svečnica, ki jo praznujemo drugega februarja. Skupaj se bomo vrnili k svetopisemskemu dogodku, ko sta Marija in Jožef prinesla Jezusa v tempelj ter tam srečala Simeona in Ano, ki sta v judovskemu dečku prepoznala obljubljeno Luč sveta. Razmišljali bomo o simboliki sveče kot znamenju Kristusove navzočnosti, vere in upanja ter o blagoslovu sveč, ki nas spremljajo v molitvi skozi vse leto. Dotaknili se bomo tudi ljudskih običajev in pregovorov, ki so se skozi čas prepletali z verskim praznovanjem ter odražali povezanost človeka z naravo in Božjim stvarstvom. Novinar, voditelj in urednik Nejc Krevs bo gostil dr. Matjaža Celarca, docenta na Katedri za sveto pismo in judovstvo ter duhovnika ljubljanske nadškofije.

V Drami SNG Maribor pa so pod režisersko taktirko Diega De Bree pripravili uprizoritev drame Marija Stuart o boju med dvema kraljicama za oblast, ki jo je Friedrich Schiller napisal leta 1800.

Letošnje, 70. tekmovanje za Pesem Evrovizije, ki bo maja na Dunaju, bo minilo brez predstavnika ali predstavnice Slovenije. A na evrovizijskem odru na Dunaju bo stala glasbenica slovenskih korenin. Na nacionalnem izboru v Luksemburgu je zmagala Eva Marija Puc. 20-letna umetnica, rojena slovenskim staršem v Luksemburgu, pravi, da je slovenščina - ki jo je imela tudi na maturi na Evropski šoli – njen materni jezik. Z njo se je pogovarjal Luka Bregar.

Stāsta Latvijas Kino muzeja vadītāja Inga Pērkone; pārraides producente – Inta Zēgnere  Latvijas Republikā – mūsu neatkarīgajā valstī – pirmā uzņemtā spēlfilma bija "Es karā aiziedams". Tās pirmizrāde notika 1920. gada 9. novembrī Rīgā, kinoteātrī Grand Kino tagadējā Lāčplēša ielā 52. Vēlāk "Grand Kino" vietā bija kinoteātris "Lāčplēsis", arī kinoteātris "Kino 52". Filmas "Es karā aiziedams" (1920) radošā grupa: scenārijs un režija – Vilis Segliņš, operatori – Kārlis Kārkliņš, Augusts Rozītis, komponists – Aleksandrs Valle, lomās: Alfrēds Amtmanis-Briedītis (Ērgļu māju saimnieks Alfrēds Ozoliņš), Ludmila Špīlberga (Marija, viņa sieva), M. Komisārs (Ediņš, viņu dēlēns), Aleksis Mierlauks (vecais saimnieks), Berta Rūmniece (vecmāmiņa), Jānis Ģērmanis (Pēteris, puisis Ērgļos), Paula Baltābola (Dace, meita Ērgļos),  Teodors Valdšmits (Starpu māju saimnieks), Lilija Ērika (žēlsirdīgā māsa). Filmai ir 3 daļas; precīzs garums nav zināms – tas varētu būt no 45 – 60 minūtēm. Diemžēl ne "Es karā aiziedams", ne citas 20. gadu sākuma Latvijas spēlfilmas nav saglabājušās – par tām mēs varam uzzināt galvenokārt no 20. gadu periodikas, dokumentu arhīviem, arī no attēliem un cita vizuālā materiāla. Taču zīmīgi, ka nu jau savu zudušo filmu vēsturi varam skatīt arī jaunās filmās! Režisores Signes Birkovas 2025. gadā uzņemtā filma "Lotus" ir drosmīga un krāšņa fantāzija par Latviju 20. gadsimta 20. gadu sākumā. Filmā darbojas gan izdomāts personāžs, gan reālas vēsturiskas personas, viņu vidū arī filmas "Es karā aiziedams" režisors Vilis Segliņš Viļa Daudziņa iemiesojumā. Kaut arī Signe Birkova Latvijas kinomākslas tapšanu interpretē ļoti brīvi un savas filmas centrā ielikusi izdomātu vācu aristokrāti Alisi fon Trotu, "Lotosā" iezīmētā laikmeta atmosfēra – haosa, trūkuma, bet arī lielu ideju un cerību pilna – ir ļoti ticama, ļaujot sajust, cik lielu drosmi un uzņēmību "Es karā aiziedams" uzņemšana varēja prasīt no filmas radošās grupas.  Šodien mēs droši vien teiktu, ka filma "Es karā aiziedams" atbilst vēsturiskajam žanram, taču 1920. gadā tas bija sava laika, toreizējo mūsdienu stāsts. Tā centrā bija zemnieku ģimene un lauku mājas saimnieks Ērglis (viņu atveido Alfrēds Amtmanis-Briedītis), kas tiek iesaukts strēlniekos Pirmā pasaules kara laikā, bet pēc tam kļūst par brīvības cīņu jeb Neatkarības kara virsnieku, varoni, kas filmā pielīdzināts Lāčplēsim, tā aizsākot Lāčplēša kā varoņtēlu prototipa tradīciju mūsu kino. Filmā bija arī melodramatiskas līnijas – mīlestība, greizsirdība, uzticības un ziedošanās tēmas, iespējams arī – paaudžu attiecības. To visu iemiesoja sava laika mīlētākie un pazīstamākie latviešu teātra aktieri: Ludmila Špīlberga, Aleksis Mierlauks, Berta Rūmniece, Lilija Ērika, Jānis Ģērmanis, Paula Baltābola, Teodors Valdšmits. Laikā, kad filmas iecere tapa, 1919. gadā, Latvija bija kara un okupāciju saplosīta. Kino bija kļuvis par savdabīgu patvērumu vispirms jau filmu auditorijai: piemēram, padomju varas pārstāvji 1919. gadā konstatēja, ka cilvēki pārāk daudz apmeklējot nenopietnas filmu izrādes un citus tingeltangeļus. Vajagot uzvest pamācošas bildes ar lekcijām, bet ja tas nav iespējams, tad kinoteātri jāslēdz. [1] Taču kinoteātri bija patvēruma vieta, maizes un darba vieta arī māksliniekiem – mūziķiem un aktieriem. Minētos aktierus 1919. gadā, kamēr juku laikā teātri bija slēgti, uz kinoteātri "Grand Kino" uzaicināja tā direktors Kārlis Kārkliņš (1886–1972). Aktieri pelnīja iztiku, spēlējot t.s. divertismentus, nelielas ludziņas filmu starplaikos. Daļa no tām bija lokalizējumi, bet daļu, iespējams, uzrakstīja aktieris un režisors Alfrēds Amtmanis-Briedītis pats. "Grand Kino" Varietē teātra aktieri kļuva kļuva par filmas "Es karā aiziedams" tēlotājiem – pirmajiem kinoaktieriem neatkarīgajā Latvijā.  1929. gadā Kārlis Kārkliņš, kuru mūsdienīgā valodā varētu dēvēt par filmu producentu un distributoru (filmu izplatītāju), kādā intervijā teica: "Latvijas nacionālās filmrūpniecības pamatus radījām mēs kopīgi ar tagadējo Nacionālā teātra režisoru Amtmani-Briedīti." [2]  Būtisks bija Viļa Segliņa (1882–1961) ieguldījums. Segliņš esot Latvijā no Krievijas un Ukrainas atgriezies tieši tad, kad uzsākts darbs pie filmas. Segliņš ārzemēs bija piedalījies vairāku filmu uzņemšanā. Kārlis Kārkliņš viņu novērtēja kā "tanī laikā vienu no labākiem filmu darbiniekiem Latvijā. Segliņš mums palīdzēja izstrādāt filmas scenāriju, un pēc tā pabeigšanas ķērāmies pie darba". Kārkliņam esot piederējis mazs filmēšanas aparāts, ar kuru varēja uzņemt tikai 30 metrus filmas. Kārkliņš vēlāk stāstīja: "Centos Briedītim iegalvot, ka mums pirmā latvju filma jārada ar šo pašu aparātu. Viņš uz šo ideju skatījās ļoti skeptiski, jo es nebiju profesionāls operators, bet vienkāršs amatieris. Bet, kad es viņam parādīju pirmos uzņēmumus no filmas, ar Liliju Ēriku, tas sajūsmināts iesaucās: "Tagad es ticu Latvijas filmai!"" 1920. gada 9. novembrī notika filmas "Es karā aiziedams" pirmizrāde Rīgā, bet pēc tās filma tika plaši izrādīta Latvijā, vēl arī 1921. gada vasarā un, iespējams, arī vēlāk. Vērtējumi presē bija atzinīgi vai vismaz saudzīgi. Piemēram, žurnāls "Latvijas Tirgotājs" 1920. gada Nr. 8./9 rakstīja: "Neskatoties uz dažām tehniskām nepilnībām, kuras jauniesācējiem nav bijis iespējams novērst pie tagadējiem apstākļiem, uzņēmums atstāj diezgan patīkamu iespaidu un apsveicams kā pirmais darbs vietējā kinematogrāfijā." Avīze "Latvijas Sargs" 1920. gada 10. novembrī norādīja, ka "uzvedumam, bez šaubām, vēl daudz māksliniecisku trūkumu, bet ievērojot uzņēmuma aprobežotos materiālos līdzekļus, kā arī drāmas aktieru pirmo uzstāšanos kinoaktieru lomās, filma tomēr kā eksperiments atzīstama un kā tāds var modināt zināmu interesi". Pamatīgāko recenziju paša vadītajā žurnālā "Fotogrāfijas Mēnešraksts" 1921. gada pirmajā numurā uzrakstīja filmu operators Jānis Sīlis: "Tas ir mūsu pirmais mēģinājums un kā tāds arī atzīstams. Bet arī tikai kā tāds. Šoreiz finansiāli tikām cauri, mūs glāba vispārēja sajūsma, jo tas bija pirmais mūsu pašu, latviešu gabals. Uz priekšu tā strādāt nevaram, ja negribam vilkties citām tautām astē. Mums jārada latviešu kino drāma, jāieliek viņā mūsu īpatnība, jāizved viss mākslinieciski un tehniski ne sliktāk par ārzemju darbiem. Ticība uz latviešu kinematogrāfijas nākotni lai vieno mūs visus." Dzejnieka Raiņa atmiņās atrodama informācija, ka Segliņš viņam stāstījis par filmas gūto peļņu: "Es karā(i) aiziedams" esot atnesis 150 000 rbļ. skaidra atlikuma. [3] Filmas panākumu iedvesmota, domubiedru grupa 1921. gadā izveidoja akciju sabiedrību "Latvju Filma", kurā līdzās kinohronikām un reklāmas filmām tapa vēl četras inscenētas filmas: "Laiku viesulī" (1921), "Fricītis jūrmalā" (1921), "Psihe" (1922) un "Vilkiem mests laupījums" (1922). The next episode in the series “Can the record be trusted?” explores the prospects and challenges of human rights documentation and archives in the digital age, with speakers from an international expert workshop that took place at Queens University Belfast in November 2024. In this episode Dagmar Hovestadt talks to Marija Ristic about the cutting edge of digital evidence in contemporary human rights investigations. Marija is the head of Amnesty International's Digital Evidence Lab. In the conversation she shares how multidisciplinary teams combine field research, satellite imagery, open-source intelligence, and digital communication to document complex crises such as Gaza and Iran. 2. decembrī svinama jaunlatviešu kustības viena no aizsācējiem, Ainažu jūrskolas dibinātāja, latviešu ekonomista, publicista un politiķa Krišjāņa Valdemāra 200. dzimšanas diena. Jāatzīstas, ka līdzās tam Krišjānim Valdemāram, kuru plakātiski zina itin visi - Ainažu jūrskolas dibinātājs, “Pēterburgas Avīžu” redaktors - viņa dzīvesstāstā ir izvēles, kuras saprast ir grūti, neiedziļinoties 19. gadsimta vēstures kontekstā. Ar vēsturniekiem Vitu Zelču un Gintu Apalu pārrunājam Krišjāņa Valdemāra dzīvesstāsta grūtāk saprotamos brīžus 19. gadsimta vēstures kontekstā. Viens no šī raidījuma mērķiem, ir vēlreiz izstāstīt Krišjāņa Valdemāra dzīvesstāstu. Tātad – dzimis viņš ir dzimis Ārlavas Vecjunkuru mājās 1825. gada 2. decembrī. Viņa tēvs Mārtiņš Valdemārs ir Vecjunkuru iegātnis, māte – Marija ir saimniekmeita. Krišjānim Valdemāram, viņa māsai, vēlāk – rakstniecei Marijai Medinskai,  brālim Indriķim, vēlāk – arhivāram un vēsturniekam, bija labas izredzes mantot saimniecību. Taču 1835. gadā, kad Krišjānim Valdemāram ir 10 gadi, viņa tēvs cieš neveiksmi saimniekošanā, ģimene spiesta mājas atstāt un pārcelties uz Sasmaku, tagadējo Valdemārpili. Valdemārpilī nokļuvis, Krišjānis Valdemārs tur uzsāk arī savas skolas gaitas, ko turpina Pūņu muižas skolā, Lubezeres draudzes skolā. Tad jau viņš ir gatavs pieņemt mājskolotāja vietu, uzdien par rakstveža palīgu Rundālē un rakstvedi Lielbērstelē. Pieminēto pirmo lauku inteliģences pulciņu “Baltijas jūras izsmelšanas biedrība” , Valdemārs nodibina strādādams par rakstvedi Ēdolē. Un ir ļoti grūti uzminēt, kāda ir bijusi ģenerālgubernatora Suvorova motivācija, apmaksājot Valdemāram mācības Liepājas Augstākajā apriņķa skolā, kas vēlāk pavēra ceļu uz universitāti. 1859. gadā, Krišjānis Valdemārs pārceļas uz Pēterburgu. Kopš 1862. gada, sākotnēji cenzē, tad kopā ar Juri Alunānu un Krišjāni Baronu rediģē "Pēterburgas Avīzes". Cita starpā iestājas pret kārkluvācietību. Kas jau Maskavas posmā, ap 1867. gadu, kad Krišjānis Valdemārs kļūst par laikraksta "Московские ведомости" līdzstrādnieku, pāraug asā nostājā pret vācu muižniecību. Pēterburgas periodā Krišjānis Valdemārs ir ierēdnis Finanšu ministrijā, 1860. - 1861. gadā lielkņaza Konstantīna uzdevumā apceļo Baltijas jūras piekrasti, iesniedz Krievijas valdībai priekšlikumus par kuģniecības attīstīšanu Baltijas jūrā. 1864. gadā ar tiešu Valdemāra līdzdalību tika izveidota Ainažu jūrskola. Vēl viens veids kā Krišjānis Valdemārs vēlējās palīdzēt nabadzīgākajiem latviešiem tikt pie turības – viņš iepirka lielākas zemju platības Novgorodas guberņā, piedāvājot latviešiem tās apsaimniekošanai. Novgorodas zemju plāns izgāžas. Atmiņās Jānim Kreicbergam Valdemārs stāstījis, ka  izputējušie latviešu zemnieki pat piketējuši Ziemas pils laukumā, kas vedis pie viņa aresta un nopratināšanas. Par Novgorodas zemju neveiksmes ķīlnieku kļūst ne tikai pats Krišjānis Valdemārs, kurš zaudē savu un arī sievas Luīzes pūra naudu. Daudz tiešākā veidā zemnieku neapmierinātībai pretim stāties nākas viņa jaunākajai māsai Marijai. Marija, pirmās laulības uzvārdā Naumane, pārdod īpašumu Sasmakā, un 1865. gadā kopā ar māti pārceļas uz Krišjāņa Valdemāra ierīkoto latviešu koloniju Novgorodas guberņā. Viņai nākas vienai gan pārdzīvot mātes nāvi tūlīt pēc pārcelšanās, gandrīz 17 gadus viņa viena pārvalda Krišjāņa Valdemāra muižu Krievijā. -- Krišjāņa Valdemāra jubileja šogad kā Latvijas nominācija tiek daudzināta UNESCO svinamo gadadienu kalendārā, nesot viņa slavu ārpus Latvijas robežām. Decembra sākumā durvis vērs Valdemāra personībai veltīta plaša izstāde Rīgas Vēstures un kuģniecības muzejā.
