The response to sexual violence and abuse arose largely out of the feminist movement in the eighties, where women got together in groups and many disclosed their traumatic experiences. For fifteen years Galway Rape Crisis Centre was the only organisation in Galway providing such support services. Initially all services were run on a voluntary basis, until, in the late eighties, grants were secured from the Health Board funding a certain amount of paid hours.Organisational ChangeStarting in the late nineties, GRCC has undergone a process of organisational change. The Centre moved from the original collective structure to operating under the direction of a Board of Management. This was to comply with not alone best practice in the sector but also to comply with the charities regulations. In 2006, Galway Rape Crisis Centre incorporated the services of MASC at our own premises, and we now see male clients and employ male staff. The Sexual Assault Treatment Unit (SATU)The Sexual Assault Treatment Unit (SATU) opened its doors in Galway in 2009. The United States' nearly 1,000 technical and community colleges have been providing skills-based, career-focused training to communities for over 100 years. It's imperative that higher ed pays attention to the needs of industry in order to fulfill this purpose. What happens when those needs take a massive shift in a short amount of time? The way we live, work and learn have all changed in the last two years. Some of these changes are due to technological advancement, and some are due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We've seen entire sectors slowing/shutting down and then reopening, individuals displaced and seeking skills in totally new industries, education transitioning online, a mass transition to remote work, and more technology-driven work than ever before. How must community colleges adapt to these changes? We asked Dr. Bill Pink, President of Grand Rapids Community College in Michigan to talk on the future of work and the vital role technical and community colleges play. In part 1 of a two-part series, we discuss the two keys every community college must have in order to serve their region. In this episode, Dr. Pink answers key questions, like:Why do relevance and responsiveness matter in higher ed?When it comes to determining curriculum, skills and competencies to teach, what's one huge mistakes many colleges still make? How did GRCC manage to have a higher summer enrollment than even pre-pandemic numbers? What should colleges do to promote better mental and physical health for students?Career ladder or career lattice: What do career pathways look like for today's students? What role do community colleges play in times of transition - from military to private sector, from high school to adulthood, etc?

Save Meduza!https://support.meduza.io/enThe Russian Presidential Affairs Department's Scientific Research Computing Center (GRCC) develops systems to monitor and deanonymize social-media users, and it sells these systems to government and private clients alike. Using the company's services, insurance companies can root out dishonest employees, and security-guard companies can recruit new staff. Other GRCC programs allow the police to hunt down “extremists” online. In a special report published in late September, Meduza learned that these computing systems collect information on Russians not just from open sources, but also from leaked databases that are sold illegally on the black market.  To find out more about Russia's database black market and how this information is being used, “The Naked Pravda” spoke to Meduza special correspondent Liliya Yapparova and Christo Grozev and Aric Toler, two top researchers at the investigative journalism website Bellingcat. In this episode: (2:01) Liliya Yapparova explains how she first learned about GRCC and its controversial products. (5:46) Kevin and Liliya discuss the ethics of using illegal databases to hunt down criminals, and the tradeoffs tech consumers accept when embracing news services. (9:15) Christo Grozev reviews Bellingcat's history and how he came to the group. (11:39) Aric Toler describes “digital stalking” and talks about Bellingcat's mid-October report about one of the alleged Skripal poisoners attending the family wedding of a Russian military intelligence commander. (21:31) Aric explains why Bellingcat isn't like Wikileaks. (23:56) Christo talks about when Bellingcat thinks it's okay to use leaked databases. (30:29) Liliya and Christo argue that Russia's data-leak problem can't be fixed anytime soon. “The Naked Pravda” comes out on Fridays. Sure, you may know how to subnet a class "C" network into 64 different networks, but how about where to go to learn about technology that has yet to make it into a textbook? Or to find your next job? Or just somewhere where you can commensurate with someone who understands what you mean when you say, "That APT left the MSSP DOA!" This presentation will outline the OSINT and TTP's cyber security practitioners use in industry to connect, build, and maintain networks, with an eye towards how Boilermakers who are CERIAS about cybersecurity can do the same. About the speaker: Andrew Rozema is the department head of the Grand Rapids Community College Computer Information Systems department, an Assistant Professor, and the director of the Grand Rapids Community College Center for Cybersecurity Studies. Prof. Rozema led GRCC's efforts to earn the "NSA DHS Center of Academic Excellence in Two Year Education" designation, and now mentors and reviews other institutions as they do the same. After 20 years in various IT, security, and managerial roles in industry, Prof. Rozema now focuses his attention on educating the next generation of IT and cybersecurity professionals. As an educator, Prof. Rozema teaches cybersecurity related courses for Grand Rapids Community College, and the ISC^2, as well as serving as a mentor for students with the SANS Institute.Prof. Rozema holds a AA from Grand Rapids Community College, a Bachelor of Science in Information Assurance and Security, and a Master of Computer Information Systems with a focus on Security from Boston University. What a night for Drew to be all by his lonesome!  Following what seemed like a benign announcement from our home Con which you can find here, the internet exploded in every direction. Accusations flew wildly, things were said and videos were made.  At the end of it all, GRCC founder Mark Hodges is here hoping to provide some answers, dispell some myths and rumors and hopefully set the record straight.  Normally, this is not the type of podcast we do with Mark but we wanted to make sure he had the chance to say what he felt he needed to say about everything. We hope that people listen to the whole thing, hear what Mark had to say and make a choice from there. Every story has 2 sides.
