In this immersive journey through Scandinavia, legendary sound recordist Martyn Stewart and host Amanda Hill explore the raw, untamed beauty of the North. From the creaking glaciers of Norway to the geysers of Iceland and the thunderous storms of the Faroe Islands, Martyn shares stories from decades of fieldwork—mic'ing up waterfalls, surviving hurricane winds, and capturing the eerie, majestic songs of wolves, moose, and reindeer. They marvel at the choreography of humpback whale bubble-netting, laugh about microphone-laden decoy ducks, and close with the serene magic of the Norwegian dawn chorus. It's a cinematic, soulful celebration of nature's voice and our deep connection to it.www.thelisteningplanet.com

So how do we elevate our practice and what does elevating our practice do for our career, business and patients. It actually does quite a lot. For one, it helps with employee retention. A recent poll showed that the number one reason why a dental hygienist leaves a dental practice is because the practice is not innovative, it's doing the same ol same ol and they feel they are stuck in a rut, not learning anything new. nor are they trying new techniques and products. Also part of our episode today is talking about incorporating diagnostics into our practice. Instead of rushing through the medical history and moving right to our scaling, root planing and prophies, we should dedicate time to diagnostic testing, getting to the root cause of the problem. As our guest Amanda Hill will explain, diagnostic testing is a game-changer for the practice and not only builds trust between the practice and the patient, but also drives revenue to a whole new level.

If you are employed, your job is at risk. This has been true for all industries, but medicine seemed to be immune from these trends for the most part. Last year, medicine was the third largest industry experiencing layoffs. From new graduates to higher up physician leaders, there does not seem to be anyone who is safe. Private practice has likely been the canary in the coal mine and first to experience the hit of decreased reimbursements. Amanda Hill, JD is a strong advocate for physicians. We recorded this episode a few days ago, because we have been seeing these alarming trends accelerating. We joined forces last year to create the program 90 Day Notice to help. Clear and written agreements are the cornerstone of trust in professional relationships. However, some misconceptions often lead professionals astray. Many believe that verbal promises hold the same weight as written agreements, a notion that our guest speaker dispels with clarity. This kind of problem stems from a lack of awareness about the complexities involved in contract review. Therefore, we must recognize that it's not merely a formality but a shield against potential pitfalls. Likewise, legal guidance is not a luxury but a necessity that ensures professionals enter agreements with eyes wide open. In the light of this, the importance of written contracts cannot be overstated. It is crucial to recognize red flags and approach negotiations with a strategic mindset. Hence, balancing the importance of written contracts with strategic negotiation is a transformative process. Therefore, professionals wield contracts not only as binding documents but also as instruments of empowerment, steering their careers toward growth and success. Amanda B. Hill is a well-known and respected healthcare attorney in Austin, TX. With over 20 years of experience practicing healthcare law and coaching and training doctors in patient satisfaction and leadership, Amanda is uniquely positioned to assist doctors with their most pressing and essential issues. Amanda built Guard My Practice because she saw a need – doctors want to feel safe and protected in their businesses but aren't 100% sure how to stay out of trouble. She's seen it all and helped others get through it. Her passion is becoming a partner and trusted confidant to medical groups and doctors to help them navigate through uncertainty and toward peace. In this special episode with Amanda Hill, we will explore the importance of contract negotiation for physicians and healthcare professionals. You will learn the details involved in contract negotiations, from securing reasonable work schedules and adequate compensation to addressing the evolving dynamics of patient interactions, especially in the age of virtual healthcare. She also highlights the importance of having clear, written agreements in contracts to ensure that promises made during negotiations are upheld. Tune in as we explore the impact of effective contract negotiation on a physician's trajectory and empower healthcare professionals to advocate for their well-deserved terms and conditions. “You're the physician, not the entity that controls you and so we all have to stand up together and hold link arms and say physicians have to be autonomous.” – Amanda Hill Topics Covered: (00:00:44) Welcoming our guest, Amanda Hill. Doctors play a crucial role in safeguarding the health and well-being of their patients. However, it is also essential for doctors to guard their practice since medical practices are complex businesses and managing finances can be challenging. Consequently, protecting your practice from fraud, theft, or other financial crimes is essential to ensure you can continue providing quality care to your patients. Additionally, clinicians need to guard their practice by protecting their contracts. Medical practice contracts include employment agreements, partnership agreements, and other legal arrangements. These contracts determine the terms and conditions of the practice's operations, financial responsibilities, and ownership. Thus, it is advantageous for healthcare professionals to seek help from lawyers committed to giving them the resources they need to protect the practice they've built from contracts and agreements before binding those to their lives for the next couple of years. Therefore, it is essential to preserve such agreements to avoid any disputes or conflicts, protect their rights, and maintain their practice's financial stability. Amanda B. Hill is a well-known and respected healthcare attorney in Austin, TX. With more than 20 years of experience practicing healthcare law and coaching and training doctors in patient satisfaction and leadership, Amanda is uniquely positioned to assist doctors with their most pressing and essential issues. In this special episode with Amanda Hill, we will learn about the passion of an empowered woman in advocating for healthcare professionals and vesting them education concerning contracts and how to protect themselves from the unexpected. Key Takeaways: "I like to make my clients look good, and that's my job is to be in the background, helping them out by reading their contract." – Amanda Hill "Many times, we don't want to feel like an idiot, so we stay quiet, and that's the worst thing we can do when we're dealing with contracts." – Amanda Hill "The most important thing on the contract is how to get out of it because we don't know what we don't know until it's too late." – Dr. Derrick Burgess "Every contract you sign, you have to be able to get out of because things change so much in your career." – Amanda Hill "You just can't buy into promises. You have to have contracts to protect you in a way out because so many things may change." – Amanda Hill "Think about the fact that in five years, your life might look a lot different now." – Amanda Hill "I don't like to see doctors feeling helpless." – Amanda Hill "I'm trying to back up a little bit and try to talk to doctors again about starting their practice, but do it in a way that can set them up for success." – Amanda Hill "I became passionate about preventing the problems instead of just being on the back end and cleaning up the messes. And so, I want to change the tide. I want doctors to start opening up their practices again and not be scared." – Amanda Hill "It's hard to be the expert that if people go to you, you have to be sure of yourself, and that's hard because they trust you and your guidance." – Amanda Hill "If you don't know how you're getting paid, then you're just blind, and they can pay you anything. And what I can't stand is vagueness." – Amanda Hill "You need to have the big-ticket items, which are usually termination clause compensation and non-compete, which are the things that bind you after you leave." – Amanda Hill "The more humor you put in the world, the more joy you put in it." – Amanda Hill "Entrepreneurship is about solving people's problems. So, the more problems you can solve, the more money you're going to make." – Dr. Derrick Burgess "Make a video about people's questions and concerns because that's the way that you can become the authority by using your voice and reproducing it so more people can hear it." – Amanda Hill "I want doctors to cut themselves some slack. I don't think people understand the day of the life of a doctor because when they come in, they want their full attention." – Amanda Hill "Doctors and lawyers are driven to the point of insanity. We want to be good at everything we do, and when a patient doesn't like us, it sets our whole day." – Amanda Hill "We are in a slap-happy complaining culture right now. I don't know why we're going through this little phase in our lifespan where Everybody complains about everything, and I think that consumers realize that for every ten great reviews, you're going to have a bad one." – Amanda Hill "Don't let one bad review worry you. Keep doing good work and keep collecting good reviews." – Dr. Derrick Burgess "It's tough to have these complaints against you, and you just have to separate yourself from it and go." – Amanda Hill "We have to tell each other to trust your vision when we're in the throes of the bad situation." – Amanda Hill "Everybody has a story, but it's not your story. So, I encourage people to share their stories because your story will be told one way or the other.
