It's a week where the NBA Playoffs, Stanley Cup Playoffs and NFL Draft all converge and we're ready to discuss that and more on the newest "Last Word on Sports Media Podcast."Host T.J. Rives returns to give his thoughts on those subjects and more. That starts with him paying tribute to NY Yankees legendary radio voice John Sterling, who retired abprutly at the beginning of the season after broadcasting over 5,000 games on radio and all of the Yankees magical moments over the past 4 decades. He also talks the passing of an unsung ESPN key employee when it came to research in Howie Schwab. Schwab was known for establishing ESPN's stats and information department over 30 years ago and helped launch the now montrous ESPN.com in the mid-90s.Then, Jay Betsill of DFWSportsOnline.com and a media veteran of Dallas-Ft.Worth Sports joins T.J. to give some takes on the Mavericks, Stars and more vying for attention against the vaunted Dallas Cowboys this week. This is because the NFL and specifically, the Cowboys, will consume things with this week's 2024 NFL Draft. How much is Jerry Jones under fire, if at all? And, does the DFW media "tell it like it is" anymore on the Cowboys or not?T.J. then wraps with talk and cable ratings proof that the NBA being much more popular than College Basketball and March Madness just isn't true. It's all on the newest "Last Word on Sports Media Podcast." And, make sure to follow/subscribe on this feed on Apple, Spreaker, Spotify, etc.!!

Over 1700 players entered the NCAA's Transfer Portal this off season of college basketball. College hoops expert Howie Schwab joined the Catch & Shoot 2.0 podcast this week, and he tells our Aaron Berlin that while he's not a fan of the amount of players who entered the portal or the effect it had on teams who lost players to it, he does see how it has generated interest in the sport. He also gives us some teams that have used the portal to their benefit (like St. John's and Kentucky). College Basketball is back and who better than Howie Schwab to tell us what to expect from the coming season. Schwab joins our Aaron Berlin (flying solo this week) to give us a preview of the recently started season. #1 Gonzaga looked pretty formidable in their dominant win over UCLA, but Schwab isn't so sure if they're better than last year's edition. That said, he still feels they deserve to be the favorites to cut the nets down at the Final Four in New Orleans. Schwab also expresses his thoughts on Duke and the final season of Coach K, Aaron's beloved Kansas Jayhawks, other teams he sees making noise this season (like Texas, Kentucky ...and St. Bonaventure?) and how the enlarged transfer portal has affected how team rosters are now being put together. Who is the only Heisman Trophy winner to play in the Final Four? Who is the only player to win a World Series and an NBA championship? These are just a couple of the questions Howie Schwab has been asked by total strangers on the street after he became famous for being a sports trivia expert on ESPN's “Stump the Schwab.” He won 80 percent of the contests during the four-year run of the show, and he's not afraid to talk about the 16 times he didn't come out on top.
"Stump The Schwab," which aired on ESPN 2, ESPN Classic and in Canada on The Score, featured today's guest, Howie Schwab competing against the best of the best sports nerds the world could offer, and Howie's winning percentage was pretty darn close to the 1971 Bucks, the 2008 Celtics and the 2013 Heat, who all won the championship! (a 4th team had that same record, and is the only one without a championship, who is it?) Join us for a great discussion! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
College basketball expert Howie Schwab joins Otto Strong and Aaron Berlin to discuss the remarkable showing that Pac 12 teams have had in the NCAA Tournament. Of the five Pac 12 teams that made the tournament, four have advanced to the Sweet 16: Oregon, Oregon State, UCLA, and USC. Only Colorado has been eliminated and even the Buffs won their first round game before losing to Florida State in the round of 32. Nobody knows college basketball like Howie Schwab. The co-host of the "Talkin' College Hoops" podcast joins Otto Strong & Aaron Berlin to reflect on all of the upsets from the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament. Howie shares his reasons why teams like Loyola of Chicago, Oral Roberts, and Oregon State were able to take down teams that were supposedly much better. Howie, Otto, & Aaron also look ahead to the Sweet 16 matchups. Were the small crowds a factor that affected the performances of underdog teams? Why have Pac 12 teams been so successful while Big Ten, Big 12, and ACC teams have mostly been disappointments? We have answers.
