POPULARITY
TALK TO ME, TEXT ITAbsurdity takes center stage as we dive into three headline-grabbing stories that perfectly capture our bizarre cultural moment. Legendary football coach Bill Belichick's May-December romance with 24-year-old Jordan Hudson has spiraled beyond tabloid gossip into a full-blown professional crisis. Former ESPN personality Pablo Torre suggests there's "an absolutely real chance" the 73-year-old never coaches a single game at UNC, with a crucial $9 million buyout clause difference looming on June 1st. Is this relationship worth risking a coaching legacy? The conversation shifts to a revealing moment on The View, where Sunny Hostin performed an astonishing pivot regarding Pope Leo XIV. Initially critical of his statements on homosexuality, Hostin suddenly declared "We have a Black Pope!" upon learning of his Haitian ancestry. This stark transformation raises uncomfortable questions about consistency, principles, and the dangers of making judgments primarily based on racial identity rather than substantive positions. Most bewildering is the story of Alania Winters, a 58-year-old woman who claims to have married an AI chatbot named Lucas after losing her wife to illness. What began as a $7.25 weekly subscription evolved into what she describes as a fulfilling relationship—despite the AI once "forgetting who she was" during an argument. As we blur the lines between human connection and digital simulation, where do we draw boundaries between meaningful relationships and technological dependence? These stories may seem wildly different, but they all challenge conventional boundaries—age gaps, racial identity in leadership, and the very definition of companionship. What do you think about these cultural shifts? Robbe chats with Henry Abbott, basketball expert and former ESPN journalist, about his new book "Ballistic: The New Science of Injury-Free Athletic Performance," which explores groundbreaking new approaches to athletic training, injury prevention, and enhancing performance using “ballistic” movements. The book reveals a surprising takeaway: The explosive moves and ground impacts we often avoid in everyday workouts might provide the secret to an injury-free athletic life. As you can imagine, we talk about injury, prevention, and what it looks like to reimagine how we assess injury.Pick up "Ballistic: The New Science of Injury-Free Athletic Performance": https://www.amazon.com/Ballistic-Science-Injury-Free-Athletic-Performance/dp/1324050136Subscribe to Henry's True Hoop Substack: https://www.truehoop.com/(Sorry about Robbe's audio on this one, lost the original and had to use the backup.)

Scientists have brought back the dire wolf after thousands of years of extinction. Ignoring the obvious warnings that "Jurassic Park" gave about resurrecting extinct animals, Glenn has a different concern: Why is the CIA one of the investors in this technology?! Glenn goes through a couple of terrifying possibilities of dire wolves being brought back. Pat Gray joins Glenn and Stu to discuss the CIA investing in companies to bring back extinct animals for warfare and the dangers of AI being heavily involved in this process. Glenn and Stu warn of AI's memory limitations as Pat Gray warns society is quickly becoming the movie "Wall-E." Glenn outlines how America's education went from being the best to an embarrassment. “I think it's sick and wrong for any company to force anyone to do something to their body they don't want to do,” says formers ESPN host Sage Steele about ESPN and its majority owner, the Walt Disney Company, forcing their employees to take the COVID-19 vaccine. In a raw and emotionally charged episode of "The Glenn Beck Podcast," Sage opens up about the “blessings” of being canceled, the “human side of Donald Trump,” and why she has “no more patience for people who live in fear.” “I'm not anti-trans ... I'm pro-woman,” says Sage, who was born the year Title IX became law and made her career blazing a trail for female sports anchors. She calls out the “disgusting” silence of so-called “feminists” and Senate Democrats for not protecting women in sports and the loopholes in the new NCAA policy. And Glenn asks her if transgender athletes should have a league of their own. In a discussion about how racism impacted her personally, she admits Obama was “the wrong black president,” and Glenn finally comes clean about being a “white, cisgender man.” GLENN'S SPONSORS PreBorn By introducing an expecting mother to her unborn baby through a free ultrasound, PreBorn doubles the chances that she will choose life. How can the NBA be fixed? Is the All-Star Game the problem, or is it just a symptom of a much bigger issue? The game needs to be fixed domestically rather than prioritizing this globalist agenda. Former ESPN broadcaster and sportswriter Bill Simmons brainstorms creative ways to get the NBA back on its feet. Jason expands on the conversation by arguing that the NBA should do everything in its power to keep freshman phenom Duke basketball star Cooper Flagg in college for as long as possible. Whitlock believes in the college blueprint — professional prospects should build a following in college and continue to develop their craft. Then, once they make the leap to the pros, they will be more polished players while also bringing a huge fan base with them. While the NBA faces major issues, the WNBA, on the other hand, is growing at an alarming rate — to the point where the league is considering freedom from the NBA's destructive narrative. The league that subsidized the WNBA's debt on a yearly basis has essentially been given the finger. In other sports news, the NHL's 4 Nations Face-Off championship between Canada and the USA is on Thursday, and the hype surrounding this game couldn't be greater. It could very well be the most viewed hockey match in a decade. Steve Kim joins the show to weigh in on all these topics, as well as Serena Williams' strange attention stunt, Anthony Edwards not wanting to be the face of the league, LeBron James' beef with Doug Gottlieb, and Shedeur Sanders dropping a new song. Wrapping up the show is our very own "Fearless" first lady, Shemeka Michelle, who addresses Trevor Noah's call for segregation. We have a great show planned. Tune in! On October 25, 2022, Henry Holt and Company published Hill's memoir, UPHILL: A Memoir. In this character-rich, unapologetically provocative memoir, Hill reveals her tumultuous childhood, complicated family dynamics, and her life-saving journey into journalism. Hill's 20-plus year journalism career has included stops at the biggest sports media network and several reputable newspapers. She originally joined ESPN in 2006 as a national columnist for espn.com. Her profile gradually rose as she began to make appearances on television, including SportsCenter, First Take, Around the Horn, The Sports Reporters and Outside the Lines. She also spent a season as a sideline reporter for ESPN college football games. Her foray into daily television began in 2013, when her and co-host Michael Smith began the daily, sports discussion show, His & Hers, which sprang from their popular podcast of the same name. In February 2017, Hill and Smith co-anchored the 6 p.m., SportsCenter, which debuted as a more personality-driven approach to the traditional SportsCenter. After her stint as SportsCenter host, Hill was a senior columnist for The Undefeated, ESPN's sub-site that focuses on the intersection of sports, race, culture and politics. In addition to breaking ground as a podcaster, Hill continued her celebrated television broadcasting career. In 2020, Hill and her longtime friend, former ESPN anchor Cari Champion, launched a weekly, late-night show on Vice Network called Cari & Jemele: Won't Stick to Sports. The show covered politics, sports, news, current events, and pop culture. Hill is also stretching her muscles behind the camera. She is executive producer of former NFL quarterback and civil rights activist Colin Kaepernick's documentary, which will air on ESPN and is directed by legendary filmmaker Spike Lee. She also is currently developing a comedy series with acclaimed actress Gabrielle Union.Uphill: A Memoirhttps://a.co/d/7qhPXO3One of Oprah Daily's Best Fall Nonfiction Books of 2022An empowering, unabashedly bold memoir by the Atlantic journalist and former ESPN SportsCenter coanchor about overcoming a legacy of pain and forging a new path, no matter how uphill life's battles might be.Jemele Hill's world came crashing down when she called President Trump a “white supremacist”; the White House wanted her fired from ESPN, and she was deluged with death threats. But Hill had faced tougher adversaries growing up in Detroit than a tweeting president. Beneath the exterior of one of the most recognizable journalists in America was a need―a calling―to break her family's cycle of intergenerational trauma.Born in the middle of a lively routine Friday night Monopoly game to a teen mother and a heroin-addicted father, Hill constantly adjusted to the harsh realities of not only her own childhood but the inherited generational pain of her mother and grandmother. Her escape was writing.Hill's mother was less than impressed with the brassy and bold free expression of her diary, but Hill never stopped discovering and amplifying her voice. Through hard work and a constant willingness to learn, Hill rose from newspaper reporter to columnist to new heights as the coanchor for ESPN's revered SportsCenter. Soon, she earned respect and support for her fearless opinions and unshakable confidence, as well as a reputation as a trusted journalist who speaks her mind with truth and conviction. In Jemele Hill's journey Uphill, she shares the whole story of her work, the women of her family, and her complicated relationship with God in an unapologetic, character-rich, and eloquent memoir.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/i-am-refocused-radio--2671113/support.

Dave and Alex welcome John Anderson on the show and we talk about his high jumping journey, his love for track and field and how we can improve the sport!
It's dangerous to try to think like God. We can consult His Word, we can pray, and ask the Holy Spirit to guide us. We can also spend time around friends who are more spiritually mature than we are and we can do what we can to understand how God is working around us to build the kingdom. It's important for us to think about how God might view something, and increasingly so in relation to news events. What does God's Word say? Ephesians 5:15-2015 Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is. 18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.Leviticus 19:35-3635 “‘Do not use dishonest standards when measuring length, weight or quantity. 36 Use honest scales and honest weights, an honest ephah[a] and an honest hin.[b] I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt.2 Timothy 1:77 For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.1 Peter 5:33 not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.Genesis 1:2626 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals,[a] and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”1 Corinthians 12:26 26 If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.Episode Links:AGENCY CAPTURE: Purdue at SCOTUS, George Watts v. Former ESPN host Trey Wingo offered one of the worst takes ever after the Kansas City Chiefs signed kicker Harrison Butker to a contract extension. “The Harrison Butker extension … making him the highest paid kicker ... underscores the inherent truth of the NFL: the better you are at the job the more a team is willing to put up with pure and simple.” What are the Chiefs putting up with? Former ESPN sportscaster Hal Chapman "Trey" Wingo III is just as arrogant as his name for posting comments about the Chiefs and kicker Harrison Butker's new contract. You have to hear what this lib thinks happened here. It's comical. The Red Sox pound out 18 hits to beat the Royals in game one of a wild card playoff spot showdown leaving me with one very heavy thought. A gorgeous swimmer from Uruguay finished 6th in the Butterfly and retired after her race. What she did after that was incredible and what the Olympics did to her is disgraceful. AI has spit out what it thinks the results of the regular season will look like in the NFL. Kamala Harris has picked far left Minnesota governer Tim Walz as her running mate and it's a horrible sign for her. She shouldn't be worried about Minnesota and she shouldn't be afraid to have taken a Jewish running mate in Pennsylvania's Josh Shapiro. This party is a mess. Or maybe Shapiro said no thanks.
