I Love Trouble (1994) Directed by Charles Shyer Written by Charles Shyer, Nancy Meyers Starring Nick Nolte, Julia Roberts Release Date June 29th, 1994 Worn-down Peter Brackett (Nick Nolte) and ambitious Sabrina Peterson (Julia Roberts) are reporters working for rival newspapers. Assigned to cover a train derailment, the two journalists meet at the scene and immediately can't stand each other. But when they suspect a deadly government conspiracy behind the crash, the two rivals work together to break the story. While they expose corrupt scientists and butt heads every step of the way, Peter and Sabrina's competitive tiffs turn into romance.
We didn't like Julia Roberts growing up. Not at all. But then we watched "Everybody Says I Love You" and "I Love Trouble" and we were like "oh! I get it!" So we were mildly excited to love this movie. DID THAT HAPPEN? Tune in. We can travel to Italy with Luca Spagetti, to India with Richard Jenkins, and then we can wrap it all up with in Bali with Javier Bardem calling his son sweetheart. Perhaps this is a real gem. Also Billy Crudup is her husband and he makes a cool song during the movie. Rate, review, subscribe. It would legitimately be pretty great if you did.
Neither The King Of Comedy nor I Love Trouble were met with strong box office or enthusiastic reviews on their initial releases - but one has fared a lot better since.1982's The King Of Comedy would be the last time Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsese would unite for many years - and for a long time it was a project that appealed more to De Niro than Scorsese. Still, after a damp initial response, the film's reputation has grown. A lot.Not so with 1994's I Love Trouble, a rare movie star-driven summer film from Disney in the early 1990s. Julia Roberts starred, but didn't sign on the dotted line until he co-star was chosen. That'd be Nick Nolte, and it wouldn't be a particularly successful pairing...Stories of both movies are told in this episode. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Bill Reichenbach grew up in the Washington, D.C. suburb of Takoma Park, Maryland where he studied trombone with Gene Brusiloff and Robert Isele. After high school, Bill was accepted to the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. There, he studied with the great Emory Remington. While still a student, Bill began his recording career by playing lead trombone on several Chuck Mangione albums, a couple of albums with the Eastman Wind Ensemble (one on bass trombone and another one on euphonium), and the first recording of Leonard Bernstein's “Mass” (on bass trombone) which was composed for the opening of the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. After graduation, Bill toured for while with the Buddy Rich Big Band on bass trombone. During this time, the band recorded an album called “Stick It” which featured Bill on an arrangement of Jobim's “Wave”. In 1975, Bill moved to L.A. where he started playing the jazz tenor trombone chair on Toshiko Akiyoshi's big band. He made quite a few albums with the band over the next several years and was a featured soloist on all of them. At the same time, Bill was also the solo jazz trombone player on Don Menza's big band and he recorded solos on an album with the band. Bill's jazz quartet album "Special Edition" (Nothing But Bills Records) featuring Peter Erskine on drums, Jimmy Johnson on bass, and Biff Hannon on piano, reached number 10 on the national jazz radio play lists. It's now the Summer of 1994 and Disney has both a huge hit and a minor success at the box office - but sadly, neither of those came from Touchstone. As a result, the co-hosts get to do their customary deep dive into I LOVE TROUBLE, a film mostly remembered for the behind-the-scenes squabbles between its two stars, Nick Nolte and Julia Roberts. Mike and Chad both agree that it was a missed opportunity for Touchstone to cash in on the star power of the two leads, though the supporting cast is top-notch. At least Disney made out okay with the other two films mentioned on this episode: THE LION KING stands as one of their greatest achievements, and their inspirational remake of ANGELS IN THE OUTFIELD was another feather in the studio's cap. You win some, you lose some.
The deep dive into Entertainment Weekly's 1994 Summer Movie Preview continues! Brian revisits his classic coming of age summer before high school when Bruce Willis' skinny dip in COLOR OF NIGHT yanked him out of the closet just as Jamie Lee Curtis's iconic TRUE LIES striptease pulled him right back in!!! Join Brian and Kate Levkoff as they re-evaluate how FORREST GUMP (the year's “Best Picture”) and IT'S PAT (the year's worst!) hold up today, explore Kate's forever crush Macaulay Culkin as his career goes from good (son) to bad in GETTING EVEN WITH DAD, praise Jim Carey's 1994 hot streak from Ace to Dumb and Dumber to this summer's smash THE MASK, spill the tea on Julia Robert's toxic relationship with her “disgusting” I LOVE TROUBLE costar Nick Nolte (her words, not mine), demand the Ryan Gosling reboot of Jack Nicholson's WOLF aka the original Twilight for Moms, discuss the infamous bomb NORTH (the movie, not the Kardashian-West) and it's scorching Roger Ebert review that inspired his book “I HATED HATED HATED THIS MOVIE!” They share which CITY SLICKERS 2 costar said, “As long as they pay well, I'll do it,” break down THE CLIENT (when Hollywood dared to adapt a book about a *gasp* grey-haired 52 year old), wimp out on NATURAL BORN KILLERS, barely survive BABY'S DAY OUT, witness ANGELS IN THE OUTFIELD, cash in our MILK MONEY, savor some AIRHEADS, reveal THE NEXT KARATE KID and imagine what would happen if you won the lottery and your partner gave a hot waitress a 2 million dollar tip! Hey, IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOU! This pod is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get! Listen now :)
Ashley and Jess discuss the 1994 movie, I Love Trouble, starring Julia Roberts and Nick Nolte. Much like the Boeing case we covered last week, this film deals with corporate cover-up that values profits over human lives. Plus, the hosts discuss 90s feminism, the male gaze, and Clark Gregg. Please, please, don't confuse 1994's I Love Trouble with Nothing But Trouble, though both are equally unpleasant movies (albeit in wildly different ways) and both spend about the same amount of effort on compelling romance. For our nicest episode ever, we watch this aptly-forgotten Charles Shyer / Nancy Meyers romantic (?) crime thriller (??) starring Nick Nolte, Julia Roberts, and a whole lot of intrigue about milk. Join Leigh, Brendan, and Chris as they discuss chemistry and miscasting, the specific reasons as to why having two reporters investigate a company making genetically modified cows was a mistake, and in what world there would be a Gap ad campaign featuring an aging unattractive Chicago columnist. Thankfully, there is no milk to be found in the themed cocktail we mixed up for this movie. Also we spend about four minutes talking about musicals, but hey, it's a short episode so don't give us that look. Continue reading →

Greetings from Bitchville! This week we watched the completely insane romantic comedy/mystery thriller I Love Trouble, starring Nick Nolte and Julia Roberts. Their obvious disdain for one another is the most interesting thing about this movie - which isn't saying much, considering it's about milk.
Guardians of the Galaxy came out over the weekend and it's the movie that pretty much everybody is talking about right now, including your podcast hosts. This show is dedicated to exactly that: talking about Guardians of the Galaxy and giving our opinions on what worked in the film and what didn't in two parts: non-spoilery talk and spoilery talk (don't worry, we'll make sure to give you lots of notice if you haven't seen the film yet). Lightning Round: Outcast, All-New Ghost Rider, I Love Trouble, The Wake, Last Broadcast, Red Sonja, Harley Quinn, Avengers, Hawkeye, Low, Justice League. Books of the Week: The Thing: Freakshow, Last Days of an Immortal, High Crimes, Doc Savage #8, Adventures of Superman #15, Bodies, Guardians of the Galaxy.
On this week's show, Gene and Siike chat with Kel Symons, writer and creator of the hit Image book, "I Love Trouble". Your nerdy hosts discuss Neil Gaiman and Angela joining Marvel Comics, a few writers leaving DC titles, how you can get a FREE Solestar tattoo this weekend if you live in LA, and share with you their "Deuce" picks of the week. Last but not least, the boys spend the remainder of the show giving you their MegaCon 2013 Wrap-Up! Be there AND be square! Tune in, nerd out!
