Ison askeleen hän otti urallaan menneenä talvena, kun uran tähän asti parhaan kauden kruunuksi Oberstdorfin MM-kisoista tuli uran ensimmäinen arvokisamitali, 4 x 5 kilometrin viestin pronssimitali. - Se on varmasti urani paras saavutus. Ikinä ei tiedä, mitä uran varrella sattuu – esimerkiksi loukkaantumisia. On hienoa, että nyt on ainakin yksi aikuisten arvokisamitali saavutettu. Tästä on mukavampi ja tietyllä tavalla myös paineettomampi jatkaa uraa, kun mitalitili on jo auki. Toivotaan, että niitä tulee lisää, Ville Oksasen valmennettava lausuu. Pöytyän Urheilijoita edustava Matintalo oli lupaava juniori paitsi maastohiihdossa myös yleisurheilussa. Kovin moni urheilija ei ole saavuttanut kansallista menestystä sekä kesä- että talvilajeissa, mutta jo 14-vuotiaana yleisen sarjan SM-hopeaa 800 metrillä ottanut Matintalo on yleisen sarjan Suomen mestari molemmissa lajeissa. - En osaa sanoa, kummassa menestystä olisi tullut paremmin. Kansallisesti totta kai juoksussa, kun Kalevan kisoista on mitaleitakin ja jopa yksi mestaruus (2013), mutta hiihdossakin pääsin jo nuorten arvokisoihin juniorina. Juoksussa tuli myöhäisteininä aika paljon vaivoja, mikä sai miettimään, että jos aikuisena haluaa huippu-urheilijaksi, juoksuhommat saavat riittää, Matintalo palaa vuoteen 2016. - Taustani keskimatkoilta on tuonut varmasti sellaista kovuutta, jota kaikilla hiihtäjillä ei välttämättä ole. Siedän varmasti keskimääräistä paremmin vaikka happoja. Kun Matintalo voitti 800 metrin Suomen mestaruuden Vaasassa 2013, hänen takanaan hopeaa otti Sara Kuivisto, jolla käynnistyi yhä käynnissä oleva yhdeksän SM-mitalin putki matkalla. Kesällä 2021 Kuivisto rikkoi ensimmäisenä suomalaisena kahden minuutin rajan ja oli lähellä finaalipaikkaa Tokion olympiakisoissa. Yleisurheilutausta on vaikuttanut joulukuussa 1996 syntyneeseen Matintaloon myös hiihtäjänä, ja se näkyy osaltaan myös erikoistumisena perinteiseen hiihtotapaan. Tuo vahvuus yhdistettynä Pekingin olympiaohjelmaan avaa herkullisen näkymän tulevalle kaudelle, sillä perinteisellä hiihdetään kymmenen kilometriä ja myös suomalaisten perinteinen menestyslaji, parisprintti. - Haluan ehdottomasti lähteä parantamaan henkilökohtaisia arvokisasijoituksiani. Nyt paras sijoitukseni on 13:s, joten ehdottomasti tavoitteena on päästä kympin joukkoon. Mitä reilummin, sitä parempi. Molempiin viesteihin olisi hienoa päästä, ja niissähän kaikki on mahdollista. Jos pääsisi viesteissä mitaleille ja saisi henkilökohtaisesti hyvän sijan, ne olisi täyden kympin kisat, Matintalo visioi.

Ben represented QLD 17 times and played 2 tests for Australia and still holds the record as the youngest player ever to play State of Origin football. Ben was also lucky enough to win a premiership with the Brisbane Broncos in the 2000 season. Following a triumphant playing career, Ikin spent 5 years with the Nine Network working as a rugby league commentator and co-host of The Sunday Footy Show. Ben also worked for 10 years in various senior commercial roles in the property and construction industry but now works full time in the media with Foxsports and Crocmedia; he is also a director of the North QLD Cowboys and the Men of League Foundation. Ben also delivers a presentation with Robert Ford, State Director - Queensland, Corporate & Specialised Banking at Bankwest. Robert has 20 years experience as a senior executive of the banking industry and together Ben and Robert speak on "high performance teams and individuals". Ben is married to Beth and has four children, Will, Joe, Grace and Bella.
