A murder at the Blacksmith's Arms, A murder at Carisbrooke, some possible paranormal stories, some local history and some aircraft crashes on the chalk Downs.I usually read up on the stories making a few notes beforehand and then write them and post them in a day so I am afraid they are not that well produced or professional. This is a one person attempt to create a podcast and I do not have time to edit or record more than one take.

Send us a textIn this episode I speak to returning guest Charlotte Fisher.The last time we spoke, Charlotte had just won the @centurionrunning North Downs Way 100.But after a disappointing year of injuries and race cancellations, she decided that she needed to turn the negatives into a positive. She did this by planning and executing a new women's FKT record on the IOW coastal path!She did this in 11 hours and 48 minutes, knocking nearly 2 and a half hours off the previous women's record!We also talk about her recent award from the police for helping to talk down a man who was attempting to end his life by throwing himself off the cliffs on her regular running route! This prompted a conversation about coincidence and being in the right place at the right time.She may have been disappointed with her races in the past year, but she is deservedly proud of the kind act that her changed circumstances allowed her to do!A great chat as always!URS

Janette Edwards Santiago, older sister of Colonial Parkway Murders victim Robin Edwards, shares her thoughts on getting answers in her sister and David Knobling's murder with "Mind Over Murder" co-hosts Bill Thomas and Kristin Dilley. On January 8, 2024, Virginia State Police and FBI investigators announced that deceased suspect Alan Wade Wilmer Sr. had been liked to Robin and David's 1987 murder through DNA analysis, and that Wilmer had also been linked to the the 1989 rape/murder of Teresa Howell. CONTENTThe guest today is Patrick Crowley author of "Rose Castle and Crown - Hampshire and the Isle of Wight Citizen Soldiers". On this podcast we will cover the history of the British Army's citizen soldiers going back to the raising of militias in the 16th century up to the Army Reserves of the present day. We discuss the challenge and sacrifice that all military volunteers, throughout history, have had to make balancing the needs of service with family demands and their main civilian employment. It also demonstrates that reservists continue to significantly contribute to the United Kingdom's military capabilities.Patrick is currently the chief executive of the South East Reserve Forces' and Cadets' Association, which involves promoting reserves and cadets, tri-service, in the nine counties of the South East of England, as well as helping to connect Defence with society. He has been in this appointment since retiring from the British Army in 2014. Commissioned into 1st Battalion the Queen's Regiment in 1980, he was a Major when the Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment (PWRR) was founded in 1992. He served as a rifle platoon commander, mortar officer, adjutant, company commander, second-in- command and commanding officer within the regiment, commanding the regiment's 3rd (Volunteer) Battalion. Service included many tours of Northern Ireland, a period in Baghdad and numerous staff appointments, mainly related to infantry and staff training, as well as the Territorial Army and Army Reserves. Overseas roles included postings to Gibraltar and Zimbabwe. In addition, he has run many battlefield tours, is a committee member of the Military Historical Society and a trustee on a number of military-related charities. We would regularly stop to take heed of our surroundings. Crouched, we attempted to tune into the immediate environment, allowing the surroundings to occupy our senses so we could better filter what was going on around us. I was not the first to see it; that honour goes to my then-friend, who I shall not name as it is not my place to recant on his behalf. I know that he reached back with his arm without shifting his gaze from what he had seen and grabbed my arm. I looked where his head was fixated and saw it for the first time. It appeared crouched, almost as if it were mimicking our actions, no more than 20 or so metres from us. Although in that moment, I was unclear as to what I was looking at, what I can say was that it was large, to my eyes and mind, it was huge, black in colour, and not stationary, as I could see it moving ever so slightly from side to side.With all of us now firmly transfixed, it raised what I believe to be its head. The singular sizeable black mass now had a head, with two large triangular-shaped ears set at the top of the head. This was not a dog or one of the big cats, and its next action told me my assertions were not wrong. With a distinct, slow deliberateness, it stood up. With FBI Norfolk informing that Colonial Parkway Murders families at a meeting on January 6, 2024, that they are short $300,000 in order to test DNA and other forensic evidence in the Colonial Parkway Murders, we thought we might revisit earlier discussion of the FBI testing budget available in the Parkway case.
