In this episode, OMAG Law Enforcement Specialist Kevin Katz chats with Mike Antu and John Massey from Lexipol, along with OMAG Associate General Counsel Ambre Gooch. They discuss Lexipol policies and Daily Training Bulletins (DTBs), which are valuable resources OMAG offers to its members at no cost. Lexipol's policies are up-to-date with both constitutional and state laws, and they're designed to reduce liability for law enforcement, improve department operations, and strengthen community relationships. With the rise in law enforcement claims and costs, OMAG members' use or non-use of Lexipol policies and DTBs could impact their premiums, deductibles, or participation in OMAG's General Liability Plan in the future. That's why OMAG has pinpointed certain Lexipol policies that we expect our members to incorporate into their police manuals. By doing so, departments ensure they're following constitutional guidelines, and their officers are regularly trained on those policies, helping to reduce liability.

On this unusual “from the vault” episode of Unsupervised Learning, Razib talks to John Massey, a retired Australian engineer who has been a long-time correspondent. Massey and Razib recorded this podcast in the spring of 2021, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. At that time, Australia and China were enacting strict lockdowns to halt the spread of the virus, while the US and Europe were already taking a more relaxed approach. Though the conversation is a bit of a temporal rewind, back to a time when Americans were more worried about infection than inflation, the overarching theme is the role of China in the world and its possible future history. Massey, though an Australian, has married into an ethnic Chinese family, and some of his grandchildren live in China. The current great power tension of the 21st century is clearly China vs. the US, and in this battle Massey takes a broadly pro-Chinese stance. This is obviously a minority view for Westerners, but it is not entirely unheard of, with even voices as prominent as Thomas Friedman, columnist at The New York Times, waxing poetic about Chinese technocratic efficiency. Prior to its recent economic doldrums and fertility problems, the narrative of China ascendant was dominant and overpowering, and Massey reflects a faction of the West that still believes that Asian power's preeminence is inevitable, given the forces of history. For them, the fundamental question is simply how we in the West will adapt to it. His artistic toolbox ranges from photography and digital drawings to spray painted portraits and custom clothing creations. His paintings depict the juxtaposition of beauty and resilience in the face of struggle. Each of Matt’s subjects has faced some form of trauma or life difficulty and overcome it. It is a modern-day reminder not to judge a book by its cover. Matt’s style is heavily influence by his past in tattooing and graffiti. As such, his style can be explained as taking street art, cleaning it up a bit, and bringing it indoors. Hello! You are listening to Curator on the Go Podcast and I am Liza - your host! Today, I had the pleasure of speaking to Toronto-based artist Madeleine Gross.  Madeleine customizes her photographs with paint in a way designed to abstract landscapes but without completely abstracting reality. A graduate of the Ontario College of Art and Design where she gained a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography, Madeleine intuitively applies gesture, texture, color, and strokes with paint with the idea of emulating an immersive reality for viewers and in turn induces the sensation of actually being there just by looking. The inspiration she finds in nature, light and the effortlessly entertaining pastime of people watching can be felt in her images; with textural color layers and a realistic movement, her images embody the ripped water from a jet sky, ocean waves, the fresh beach breeze. Positive connotations are at the heart of her work, with each of the photographs taken on her trips across the globe, all enhanced by a warm and bright palette applied through a few happy strokes of a brush. Her past clients are KitKat Canada, Fashion Magazine Canada, i-D Magazine, Nike Air Society, Roads Group, among others. Her art was featured at CBC Arts, Fashion Magazine, Saatchi Art, Interview Magazine Germany, Redmilk, etc. I’ve been a big fan of Madeleine’s work and excited to have her as my podcast guest. Enjoy! In this episode, Charley Rattan & John Massey chat about the growth of connected energy, smart grid, energy Internet of Things (IoT) - call it what you will... What does this actually mean, what impacts might it have on the industry and on energy users, and where are we with it currently. As always, we'd welcome your views, news or feedback - so please contact either of us via LinkedIn or at www.astutenewenergy.com.

The first podcast from Charley Rattan and John Massey, who together are "Astute New Energy". In this episode we have a general chat about the differing fortunes of offshore wind and nuclear power here in the UK. Both provide important sources of low carbon power from huge power generation projects. Yet one is booming and seeing its costs plummet, while the other is beset by delays, high costs and investor disinterest. Why the difference? It's not a story simply of technology and money, but one where supply chain, policy and industrial strategy issues will all play major roles. Forgive some first-effort 'quirks' (barking dog anyone...) and feel free to get in touch with any comments or suggestions for our future discussions. www.astutenewenergy.com info@astutenewenergy.com
