In s3e42, Platemark host Ann Shafer talks with Lauren Rosenblum and Christina Weyl about their exhibition on view at Print Center New York through December, 23, 2023. A Model Workshop: Margaret Lowengrund and The Contemporaries is the first exhibition to explore the legacy of Lowengrund (1902–1957), a visionary artist-advocate and entrepreneur. In charting the institutional history of the hybrid print workshop-gallery she founded, The Contemporaries, and its later evolution into Pratt Graphic Art Center, A Model Workshop brings into focus the bustling printmaking scene of 1950s New York and reveals Lowengrund's impact on postwar printmaking. A Model Workshop: Margaret Lowengrund and The Contemporaries is curated by Lauren Rosenblum and Christina Weyl. It is on view September 21–December 23, 2023, at Print Center New York, 535 West 24th Street. Maurice Berezov, Margaret Lowengrund at The Contemporaries, c. 1952–55. They aren't stone statues, and we don't bow down on a literal knee, but they're idols all the same. Certain "brands"/styles of mothering, nutritional principles/disciplines, birth choices or outcomes, birth attendant titles/positions.... we're tearing 'em down in today's episode. That may seem strange coming from a couple of passionately opinionated gals like us, but we're striving to keep all things rightly ordered. Emily and Ashley are joined by Lauren Dorman, a registered dietitian, to discuss their stance on diet culture (hint: her IG handle is dont_diet_dietitian_). They discuss her work as a RD and how she helps clients break down diet culture, reduce the stigma around food that we learn from a very young age, and evolving our stance in the face of new research. She mentions many registered dietitians actually have had food struggles themselves or histories of disordered eating behaviors. Through this conversation we talk about learning to respect our bodies, its needs, and our hunger cues. The only way to dismantle diet culture is to continue talking about it. Preparing for birth without preparing for postpartum is like preparing for a wedding without preparing for a marriage. Though we obviously think preparing for birth is vital, the truth is that it's only 2-48 hours of your life, and if what follows isn't also carefully set up, the negative implications can be vast. Listen in on this conversation between two multiparas (moms of many!) who have learned a bit more each time about how to prepare well for this season and ensure we get every last benefit possible out of it. We'll cover things like receiving visitors, the 5-5-5 "rule", herbs, homeopathy, pelvic floor rehabilitation, the "winter" nature of this time, nourishing food, mothering the mother, doing the emotional work.... and MORE. This episode was recorded when Brooke was 1.5 weeks into her lying-in period, so she's speaking about this topic while living right in the middle of it. This also means you'll hear baby Gilbert in the background. In this episode, Jennifer talks to Lauren Noll about her transition from theater into film work, acting/writing/producing/directing her own work, defining your goals, and how to surround oneself with other artists who can lift you up and teach you on the job. Lauren shares her experience with her first short, Honor, and the projects that have come after. She is candid about her learnings, tools she has found helpful on the way, as well as helpful mindset practices to keep you honest with yourself throughout your journey creating. About Lauren: Lauren Noll is a Los Angeles based actor/director/writer/producer with a Master's Degree in Acting from the American Repertory Theatre/Moscow Art Theatre Institute for Advanced Theatre Training at Harvard University. While at A.R.T., Lauren was a cast member of Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812, directed by Tony Award winner Rachel Chavkin, which went on to a Broadway run and garnered several Tony nominations. Since arriving in LA post-grad school, in addition to acting in various films, commercials, and music videos, Lauren's curiosity around other roles in filmmaking led her to write, direct, and star in her award-winning short film, Honor (2020). She is thrilled to have followed that filmmaking debut with two collaborations with producing partner, Dalia Rooni: Gen V (2021) for which they were granted a development deal with Adi Shankar's Bootleg Universe, and Clean Slate (2022), for which they were awarded a grand jury prize at the Collaboration Filmmakers Challenge. In addition to being in development on her first feature film with Dalia, Lauren is also in pre-production for a short film with co-writer and producer Gregory Kasunich after their script won a production grant in the screenwriting competition at Deep in the Heart Film Festival this summer. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, Lauren seeks to tell all stories through her inherent queer lens and particularly gifts her projects to her own community. I'm back! Not with part 2 of the last episode, which I released a month ago (more?) but with an incredible conversation with Lauren Vena. Lauren is a pro-makeup artist with decades of experience and is currently the cover and features MUA for Bella Magazine. Her first book, My Mom: the best mom ever! seeks to accept the messiness of womanhood and motherhood that we all encounter (because it's human and that's super cool!). Lauren is super cool, too. A Jersey girl at heart, we talk about East Coast living, coming up in the beauty industry, and the one product she can't live without (spoiler: its car tweezers). I hope you like this episode! I'll be back with part 2 of MUAs who revolutionized the game as soon as I'm done with research. There are so many cool people I'm learning about and I can't wait to share them with you! ❤️ Check out Lauren's IG https://www.instagram.com/makeupartist_lv/

This part 2 of our conversation with Lauren Larson (@structuredspecialed on Instagram) who is a K-6 SEL Specialist in the Phoenix area. Prior to that job she was a self contained Elementary SPED teacher and an ABA Therapist. We talked with Lauren about how dangerous it is for teachers to try keeping up with the Joneses. We had seen a post on Lauren's IG about how teachers should strive for function in their classrooms over having things that look cute and we asked her about it during this part of the podcast. It got us into a conversation about how now more than ever teachers are seeing things on the internet highlight reels of people and thinking that will work for them in their teaching. This episode is ultimately about how we stay true to ourselves as teachers whether we are teaching from home or on campus. Here are some of the other things we talked about: 1. The desire of teachers and schools to rush into content. 2. The 2 minutes for 10 days method. 3. How to equip parents and caretakers with resources to support students. 4.
