In this week's conversation between Dr. James Emery White and co-host Alexis Drye, they discuss the rise of the “romantasy” genre of literature, as well as the definition and implications of pornography. Is porn only that which you watch visually? What's the difference between reading a sex scene and seeing one? The discussion also explores the increasing consumption of pornography among women, the intersection of literature and pornography, and the reasons behind the popularity of romance novels. Finally, it offers a Christian perspective on navigating romance literature and its potential impact on personal relationships. Episode Links Today's conversation was sparked by a recent podcast conversation on Christianity Today titled “The Rise of Women's Porn with Phylicia Masonheimer.” The truth is, porn is a topic that the Church must be more open about discussing as it's so harmful to those who consume it - maybe without them even realizing it. While romantasy books are growing in popularity, this is not the first time that books have been written that could be labeled as “mommy porn.” There is a series that Dr. White delivered at Mecklenburg Community Church that we'd encourage you to check out. Titled “Fifty Shades,” it takes a very candid look at the book Fifty Shades of Grey and the implications for those who read it. Check out their fabulous skin-care products made with from goat milk, essential oils, and other wholesome ingredients. From the Bible But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! Galatians 5:22–23 (NLT) The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband. The wife does not have authority over her own body but yields it to her husband. In the same way, the husband does not have authority over his own body but yields it to his wife. Do not deprive each other except perhaps by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control. 1 Corinthians 7:3–5 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 1 Corinthians 13:4–7 So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. 1 John 4:16 (ESV) For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God's throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Hebrews 4:15–16 Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. He said: “In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared what people thought. And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice against my adversary.' “For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, ‘Even though I don't fear God or care what people think, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won't eventually come and attack me!'” And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says. And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? Luke 18:1–7 So Moses brought their case before the Lord, and the Lord said to him, “What Zelophehad's daughters are saying is right. You must certainly give them property as an inheritance among their father's relatives and give their father's inheritance to them. Numbers 27:5–7 “If a man seduces a virgin who is not engaged to anyone and has sex with her, he must pay the customary bride price and marry her. But if her father refuses to let him marry her, the man must still pay him an amount equal to the bride price of a virgin. Exodus 22:16-17 (NLT) Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church— for we are members of his body. “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.” This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church. However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband. She emphasizes the need for parents to engage with their children's inquiries, no matter how challenging, and to cultivate a love for scripture and an understanding of God's grace. Join us as Phylicia discusses the power of seeing people as image bearers of God, the significance of gracious evangelism, and the journey from legalism to true freedom in Christ. This conversation is a heartfelt exploration of practical theology, spiritual formation, and the transformative impact of a faith lived out with love and authenticityKey Takeaways:Going deeper in faith and understanding theology is important for every believer. Resources that make theology accessible are needed to equip believers to communicate their faith graciously. Engaging with hard questions and cultivating a love for people is essential in sharing the truth of the gospel. The Verity Conference focuses on theological teaching that is applicable to real life and aims to equip believers to reach the unreached. Parents should be prepared to answer the questions of their children and help them develop a strong foundation of faith. Additional Resources:Every Woman a Theologian website Teach Them Diligently Homeschool Conferences Heart School Book in paperbackHeart School Book digitalConnect with Us:Follow Phylicia on social media: Instagram, Facebook Teach Them Diligently: Website, Instagram, Facebook

Phylicia Masonheimer, homeschool mom, graduate, and founder of Every Woman A Theologian, joins your host Jim Mason, President of HSLDA, in an encouraging conversation about embracing the calling of homeschooling. In this episode, they discuss Phylicia's ministry, how she has learned the importance of patience on her homeschool journey, and her advocacy work for homeschool freedom.  “One of the things that people often say to homeschool parents is, well, I could never do that. I'm not patient enough. And it's a frustrating thing for homeschool parents to hear because it's actually quite dismissive. It says that patience is something inherent, that you're born with it. That is really dismissive of how much work it is for homeschool parents to show up every day. Patience is a discipline. It's a fruit of the spirit. It's something that we have worked in us by doing hard work over and over, by being willing to sacrifice and lay ourselves down. Patience is a muscle. It grows as it is used.”—Phylicia Masonheimer

In this episode based on chapter 3 of Every Woman a Theologian, we look at cosmology, anthropology and hamartiology: theologies of the universe, humanity and sin. You'll learn about the actual nature of the serpent in the Garden, why humanity had to be free to sin, what would happen if God did not permit evil, and how this impacts your daily life!   Books mentioned: The Unseen Realm by Dr. Michael Heiser Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis If God Why Evil by Norman Geisler Every Woman a Theologian by Phylicia Masonheimer

We are all theologians. We may not be formally educated experts, but we all have beliefs about who God is and how and why he interacts with us (or doesn't). All of our assumptions, presuppositions, opinions, and ideas make up our theology. The question is, where are we getting our information? What do we base our theology on?  My guest this week is Phylicia Masonheimer, founder of Every Woman a Theologian, and her goal is “to teach [women] how to discern truth, know what (and Who) [they] believe, and live [their] faith boldly in a post-Christian world.” Her day to day work is creating resources for women to learn to study the bible and navigate doctrine because a firm theological foundation matters for us personally and individually as well as for our other relationships be it our spouses, kids, friends, neighbors. That foundation will underpin the comfort we bring to a hurting friend, the discipline we use with our children, and how we treat our spouse.  Connect with Phylicia Masonheimer: Website:  https://phyliciamasonheimer.com  Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/phyliciadelta  Instagram:  @phyliciamasonheimer   @everywomanatheologian   Podcast: The Verity Podcast  Links Mentioned:    The Ology: Ancient Truths, Ever New by Marty Machowski Mary Flo Ridley & Megan Michelson Birds & Bees Related Episodes: Become What You Behold :: Ruth Chou Simons [Ep 255]  Let's Talk About Sex :: Mary Flo Ridley and Megan Michelson [Ep 328] Consistency in Bible Study :: Katie Orr [Ep 352] Giving Kids a Firm Foundation :: Troy Simons [Ep 278] Featured Sponsors:  Find links to this week's sponsors and unique promo codes at dontmomalone.com/sponsors.
