Welcome to #Millennial, the home of pretend adulting and real post-mortem election talk! Running away to nature and self care: how we've spent the last week (or last million years) since the election. To our friends on the left: WE LOST. SORRY. DON'T GO DOWN THE CONSPIRACY RABBIT HOLE! Let's toot our own horn: unlike prior generations, millennials are not getting more conservative as we age (take that grandpa!). Confirmed: Republicans will take the House majority, but we're predicting a slim one, meaning House Speaker Mike Johnson will need to reach across the aisle to cancel out the crazy freedom caucus in his own party if he wants to get anything done. Get a sneak peak into Trump's cabinet here. What an assortment... On the west coast, CA Governor Gavin Newsom is attempting to bolster his state against the incoming admin's agenda. But how does the Supremacy Clause of the Constitution factor in here? Looking forward, how do we peacefully protest this agenda and maintain our sanity? Lead with kindness, pick 1-2 issue areas you really care about and make that your focus. This week's recommendations are all about self-soothing: Sunrise alarm clock (Pam), Ticket to Ride (Andrew), and outdoor meditation (Laura). And in this week's installment of After Dark: Andrew has a Bumble BFF update and the tea is PIPING hot! Are millennials and Gen Z angrier drivers than previous generations? The idea of Indigenous Peoples Day originated in 1977, in Geneva, at the first International NGO Conference on Discrimination Against Indigenous Populations in the America. The conference was attended by Indigenous peoples throughout world and by the conclusion of the conference, a list of recommendations was drafted, outlining a course of action to support Indigenous peoples right to self-determination, a formal rebuttal was declared to Doctrine of Discovery or Dominion, and Indigenous peoples stated their intention “to observe October 12, the day of so-called ‘discovery' of America, as an International Day of Solidarity with the Indigenous Peoples of the Americas.” Thereafter in the United States, cities and states started observing Indigenous Peoples Day including for example, in 1989 South Dakota adopted Native American Day; on 10/22/91, the Berkely, CA city council adopts Indigenous Peoples Day. In the City of Los Angeles, CA, the city council declared the second Monday of October Indigenous Peoples Day and in 2019, CA Governor Gavin Newsom declared Indigenous Peoples' Day a California holiday. To date, it is estimated that a little over 150 cities celebrate or observe Indigenous Peoples Day out of 19,502 incorporated cities, towns, and villages in the United States. Presumably, in cities with large or semi-large Native American/Indigenous communities. At the state level, 28 states observe Indigenous Peoples Day, but only three states, Maine, Nebraska, and New Mexico deem it a state holiday. The Washington DC district also considers it a holiday. At the federal level, in October 2021, President Biden designated the second Monday of October as Indigenous Peoples Day and The Indigenous Peoples' Day Act (SB 2970) which if passed would replace Columbus Day as a federal holiday and designate the second Monday of October as Indigenous Peoples' Day was introduced in Congress in 2021 and reintroduced in Congress in 2023 with no traction since then. As of 2024, for the few cities and states that observe Indigenous Peoples Day with celebrations, they still acknowledge Columbus Day as the default, often, paid holiday. There are many contradictions to celebrating and participating in Indigenous People Day celebrations at the city and state levels and today on American Indian Airwaves we have a round-table discussion on what is Indigenous Peoples Day? Our discussion panel includes Fidel Rodriguez of Chumash Nation and host of the former KPFK Divine Forces Radio and Marcus Lopez, of Barberieno band of the Chumash Nation and executive producer and host American Indian Airwaves, and me. In Season 9: Episode 8 of Beach Weekly, we are looking at the biggest headlines on the Long Beach State's and from around the world. The Muslim Student Association at Long Beach state is seeing growth in its membership, being just one example of how young American Muslims are one of the fastest growing populations in the U.S. However, leaders of the Muslim Student Association noted that despite the growth of their organization, they continue to feel judgement and discrimination from others. Former Daily Forty-Niner journalist, Pablo Unzueta, won a $90,000 settlement from the LA County Sheriff's Department last week. Unzueta filed the lawsuit in September 2020, after being arrested while photographing the protest of a Black man who was killed by Los Angeles law enforcement in August 2020. In the lawsuit, Unzueta accused LASD of illegal arrest, strip searching, illegal confiscation of property as well as an illegal search of his devices. The city of Long Beach's new Housing Element will be marketed to Long Beach State students, specifically with 13,000 apartment units designated as affordable housing. However, the Element has yet to announce a specific plan to support students. Currently, Long Beach State provides limited on- and off-campus housing options, but only enough to accommodate 1,372 of its almost 40,000 students. The family of Los Angeles Police Department officer Houston Tipping is claiming that he was targeted and killed after filing a report that accused four other officers of sexually assaulting a woman. Tipping died during a training exercise last spring, and LAPD's internal investigation ruled his death an accident. However, Tipping's family is claiming he was beaten and killed, and plans to sue LAPD. CA Governor Gavin Newsom signed an array of new bills into law last week, all of which will take effect on Jan. 1. The bills seek to protect reproductive rights, close the gender pay gap, combat climate change, address the state's housing crisis, and more. Elon Musk seems set to buy Twitter after all. After a back-and-forth series of legal proceedings between Musk and Twitter's executive board, Musk announced on Oct. 3 that he will buy the social network after previously going back on the deal. There are many pressing issues in the world right now, such as the aftermath of Hurricane Ian which decimated areas and lives along the west coast of Florida or the sabotage of the undersea Nord Stream pipelines which transport natural gas from Russia to Germany. No matter the current event, the most important issue is always how sinful man can be reconciled to Holy God.We are living in an era of our nation where God-rejection is rushing forward at an alarming rate. The statistics (such as The State of Theology that we covered last week) show that the nation, and particularly the younger generation, is turning away from Christ and Christianity. Many of our civil authorities lead the way in suppressing the truth and advocating for sin.So what should the Christian response be to this God rejection? Evangelicals have widely different answers to this question. Most want to soften the sharp edges of the faith and present the faith as “what we are for rather than what we're against.” And they would define what we are for as “radical love, compassion, and forgiveness.” This sums up the “He Gets Us” campaign that we will discuss today. And there is a small minority of believers, who despite what the market researchers say, know that they must faithfully proclaim all of God's Word, trusting in His Holy Spirit (instead of human reasoning) to change people's hearts. This sums up John MacArthur's "An Open Letter to CA Governor Gavin Newsom", which we will also discuss today.

On Friday's Mark Levin Show, kudos to the Republican Governors for giving Democrats a taste of their own medicine by relocating illegal immigrants to wealthy, white, liberal neighborhoods. The mechanism to change the voting population is illegal migration followed by subsequent chain migration and generations of loyal voters is their expectation. The Biden Administration is a self-appointed elitist, racist, and narcissistic ruling class that's proven they don't want 'undocumented migrants,' brown people, from Central and South America in their backyard. The Democrats' hypocrisy is astounding, and the narco-terrorist cartels are laughing at President Biden as we lose our country. Then, Democrats have institutionalized lawlessness in the bureaucracy, at the border, and everywhere else they can. CA Governor Gavin Newsom's policies have abused children. Later, the government has more people investigating violent domestic extremists than they do domestic terrorists. This highlights a longstanding pattern of the politicization of the Department of Justice using threat tags to target parents and citizens that disagree with the administration's politics. Afterward, JD Vance joins the show to discuss his race for the US Senate in Ohio. Vance says that his opponent votes in lockstep with Democrats Chuck Schumer but claims to be a conservative.  Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Steak for Breakfast Podcast

The Steak for Breakfast Podcast is back following the Independence Day weekend with a “MAGA Ladies Only” edition of the show to get your week kicked off right.   Political consultant and the President of Knight Agency, Erica Knight is back with us today. We talk about the importance of the 4th of July, and discuss a range of issues stemming from the decision on Roe v. Wade, the education system and the success of Truth Social.   We begin our coverage from the Fourth of July weekend joined by the undisputed Queen of Steak for Breakfast appearances, Ms. Geisha Montes.   U.S. Department of Homeland Security Chief, Alejandro Mayorkas made the rounds this weekend across the political show spectrum, and we're coving his comments and providing analysis on just what it all means for the country at this critical juncture in time for the broken immigration system.   As the midterm election season rolls on, hopefuls in the 2024 General Election are beginning to take shape. Will some of the bigs in the Progressive movement like CA Governor Gavin Newsom and current Republican House member Liz Cheney be throwing their names in the hat? We're trying to make sense of it all.   We wrap the show talking about the lack of Patriotism, enthusiasm and love for the country that is currently coming out the White House. In lackluster fashion Joe Biden and friends held what some would call a “celebration” for the 4th of July; we'll reminisce  of the real bangers that the 45th President of the United States was throwing just two, short years ago.   Subscribe to the show, rate it and leave a review before you download, listen, like follow and SHARE Steak for Breakfast content!   Steak for Breakfast:   website: https://steakforbreakfastpodcast.com   linktree: https://linktr.ee/steakforbreakfastpodcast   MyPillow: Promo Code: STEAK at checkout • Website: https://www.mypillow.com/steak • Via the Phone: 800-658-8045 •   Erica Knight (President, Knight Agency) •   Truth: @ericaknight   Website: https://www.knight.agency/   Geisha Montes (Actress, Political Commentator) •   Truth: @geishamontes   Instagram: https://instagram.com/geishamontes?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=

0:08 – Mondays with Mitch — Mitch Jeserich of Letters and Politics joins Cat Brooks and Brian Edwards-Tiekert to talk abut the Senate's reauthorization of the PATRIOT Act, known now as the USA Freedom Act, to expand the widespread surveillance across the U.S. and allow the FBI to access browsing history without first obtaining a warrant. We also talk about the House passage of the HEROES Act, another congressional stimulus during Covid-19 that contains money for states, and its uncertain future in the U.S. Senate. 0:34 Suzan Bateson, executive director of the Alameda County Community Food Bank, discusses food insecurity in the East Bay. Food banks have seen a surge in need during the coronavirus crisis — and the Alameda County Community Food Bank has increased its food purchases by almost three times the amount they spent last year. We're spotlighting the food bank during our spring fund drive — listeners can give a portion of their donation to KPFA to the food bank by donating here. 1:08 – CA Governor Gavin Newsom unveiled his May budget revision, with deep cuts to most areas of state spending, making up for an anticipated $54 billion shortfall as a result of Covid-19. The cuts are set to take place if the federal government does not provide funding to California. Political reporter Laurel Rosenhall (@lrosenhall) of CalMatters joins us. Her latest piece is “Newsom moves to slash school, health spending — but asks feds for a rescue.” 1:20 – Michael Herald of the Western Center for Law and Poverty explains the effect of Newsom's proposed budget cuts — many which go deeper than the cuts after the 2008 recession — on poor people. Programs implemented in the last two years and designed to keep poor people out of debt are on the chopping block. 1:34 – Amber-Rose Howard of CURB, Californians United for a Responsible Budget, calls for eliminating California's “three strikes” policy and explains what Newsom's budget means for prison spending and incarcerated people. Prisoners are dying of Covid-19 behind bars in California. Newsom is now proposing closing two state prisons — but Howard says Newsom has fallen short of Jerry Brown's record on commutations and that more action is needed from the governor. “Prison is no place for a pandemic” illustration by Micah Bazant. On this week's Electric Libertyland Brian gets into the morally bankrupt media attacking Rand Paul for using a Canadian hospital, debunks the 70% tax rate argument and then loses his mind over a new bill that would deny lenders and landlords collecting from any government worker during the shutdown: a clear preference for the well being of their own over private citizens. Brian then turns his attention to CA Governor Gavin Newsom's elitist nonsense from his inaugural address and the Los Angeles teacher's strike, which began this week. Finally, Brian wraps up looking at Gillette's new "Toxic Masculinity" ad, and then discusses Bolton and Pompeo's recent troubling remarks and their impact on America's occupation of the Middle East.
