I'm a big fan of actor Tom Hiddleston as he captured everyone's attention when he took on the role of Loki in the MCU and became a dominating force in it over a decade ago. Now that he's conquering the small screen in the Loki TV series, Gunnar is bringing his sly style to this realm with the Gunnar Loki: Asgard Edition Glasses.
Forging ahead into episode 4 of Marvel's Loki TV series with cohost Slick Dissident, "The Nexus Event" installment is once again dripping with syncromystic clues and symbols. Themes include the myth of Narcissus, the Devil (card) and Kronos, sacred mountains, the Word of God, and the civil war in heaven. Sure to be educational and fun even if you're not up to speed on the show we're examining, but for maximum comprehension, catch up on our whole series! Multiverses are really popular in fiction right now, eg. Dr Strange into the mouth of Madness, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, The Flash, Everything Everywhere All at Once, Rick and Morty, and The Loki TV series (which I love). So what is a multiverse and why is it used? Basically when multiple universes coexist at the same time, either there are a few and they're widely different or they are infinite and every possibility exists. In the real world the idea of multiple universes is purely theoretical and a relatively minor part of various quantum physics theories, while in fiction it's an important tool for mashing together separate IPs that wouldn't normally fit together and also telling interesting stories with parallel elements and “what-if” scenarios. There are some obvious logical issues with the way a lot of multiverse ideas are presented in fiction, though the concept is clearly magical rather that scientific in the way it's used it should STILL have logical consistency in order to be plausibly believable. One of the biggest issues is that the multiverse is too anthropomorphic and deterministic: humans are far too important, different worlds are “created” when people do different things, and in most of the different world the same people, places, and events exist and even when they don't the same characters exist, ie. no matter which world or who it is there will always be a Spiderman. This idea wouldn't be supported be any multiverse theory. The easiest multiverse idea to use in fiction is the one where any random change produces a split and a new world. These random changes would NOT be whether you decide to go down a a different path because that is a very complex change an not in any way random, it'd be about simple particles in the quantum realm doing different things because those are the only truly random events. The trouble is this would happen incalculable times every femtosecond in every part of every new universe, but it WOULD produce infinite world worlds where many different possibilities exist. There would be many, many, many almost identical versions of the same world with no visible change at all, there would be many worlds with all sorts of small changes and big changes but still having the same events and people in them and there would be just as many worlds where everything is different and no people in them at all. The trouble is that the kind of changes would be more limited than we think despite the infinite nature of the world because “initial conditions” play a huge part. The thing about initial conditions is that if they're different the end result will never be the same no matter how many times the scenario runs, and you also can't accurately predict what the result will be at any point unless you know the initial conditions that generated it. What this means that time will play a huge part: the point a which the universes diverge is significant to the amount of change and the kind of changes that will happen. But these changes could only involve things that are possible- there couldn't be a universe where there is a version of you that was born a different sex or ethnicity for example because those changes would have to have happened too far back for the conditions to have resulted in YOU. Every time they would result in someone else quite different from you living in a scenario that was also very different. Eg. the initial conditions were different so the result can't be the same and the further back the changes happen the more divergent the result, regardless of the infinite nature of the variations. This also mean you can't have a version of New York where magic exists, or a version of earth where we have two suns or something huge like that. But a world where you have a beard, where you became an accountant instead, where you died in childbirth, where you won a Nobel prize at 21, or where you're evil and have a goatee etc are all possible. Anyway, what are you fave depictions of a multiverse and do you use multiverses in your work? At the moment mine are the Loki TV series, Run Lola Run and Rick and Morty. Sliders was pretty fun back in the day though. Loki TV Talk FULL REVIEW - Loki TV Talk | RedCircleLoki TV Talk Podcast (Apple Podcasts) - Loki TV Talk on Apple PodcastsTV Talk Youtube Channel - TV Talk - YouTubeLoki discovers that he is uncontrollably warping across time in the Time Variance Authority (TVA) headquarters. In the past, the TVA attempts to apprehend Loki. In the present, Loki reunites with Mobius M. Mobius and warns him of the threat of the many variants of He Who Remains, the TVA's creator. Loki and Mobius go to meet TVA technician Ouroboros "O. B.", who deduces that Loki is "time slipping", a phenomenon possibly caused by branching timelines dangerously overloading the Temporal Loom after the death of He Who Remains. To stop Loki's time slipping, O. B. instructs Mobius to approach the Temporal Loom with the Temporal Aura Extractor device to extract Loki from the time stream as Loki prunes himself. Loki time slips to the future, where the TVA is being evacuated. Loki briefly encounters Sylvie before he is pruned by someone at the last possible second. Mobius successfully pulls Loki from the time stream, and the two of them set out to find Sylvie, just as many TVA hunters are ordered by General Dox to search for her. In a mid-credit scene, Sylvie enters a branched timeline in Broxton, Oklahoma in 1982, and visits a McDonald's restaurant.Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Original broadcast date June 17, 2021. The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2021/06/binary-system-podcast-271-lore-olympus-and-the-loki-tv-show/ We haven't had a chance to discuss Lore Olympus for a while, so this week we're devoting the entire episode to a recap of episodes 159-161 and oh who are we kidding LET'S TALK ABOUT LOKI. In all seriousness, we do get around to a spoilerrific discussion of some really fantastic episodes of Lore Olympus (content warning for a therapy session about the trauma Apollo put Persephone through) but let's face it, we had zero idea what to expect from the Loki TV series, and the season premiere somehow gave us everything we wanted. The outro music this week is a clip from Lost in the Zen Room by TeknoAxe. Original broadcast date December 17, 2020. The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2020/12/binary-system-podcast-246-lore-olympus-the-mandalorian-and-black-mirror/ There's no new Welcome to Night Vale episode to recap quite yet, so once again we go back to the well that is The Mandalorian and the webcomic Lore Olympus, with the addition this week of Black Mirror, and we've got some questions. What exactly was the face-scan on the latest episode of The Mandalorian supposed to accomplish? Why did Hades and Zeus freeze and look like they both knew they went too far in the latest issue of Lore Olympus? And who actually did murder the TV reporter in the Black Mirror episode "Black Museum" if it wasn't the executed criminal? We've got the answers to exactly none of these questions, but we do have a spoilerrific discussion of all of them. We also have the weekly SitRep with beer, and we talk about vaccines and politics (and the politics of vaccines), and the ethics of singling people out for abuse on the internet. Then we jump up and down in excitement at the new trailer for the Loki TV show, because EEEEEEEEEE! This week's outro is a clip from Jack Frost Incorporated by TeknoAXE. Minute Sixty-Five: From Gaslight Success to Hammer Fail Joining us sadly for the last time to discuss Thor's apology to Loki due to Loki's gaslighting tactics and Loki's failed attempt at picking up Mjølnir are Kyle Olson and Rob Kubasko from Marvel Movie Minute seasons 2 & 3! In the sixty-fifth minute of Kenneth Branagh's 2011 film Thor... Loki's gaslighting has pushed Thor to a place where he is the one who apologizes to Loki. Wow, that's dark. What we read from Thor here is again how genuine he is. He's been so broken that this is the point where he can start rebuilding himself. Thor's “thank you for coming here” is really the turn for Thor. But again, it's also a sign he's been taken by Loki's gaslighting. Victims look at themselves as the problem. That tear on Thor's cheek leads us to a Waterworld reference. Loki's turn to leave and closeup shows us that he does not smirk. Is this because the door is mirrored and he doesn't want Thor to see him smirk? Or is it because he knows that there's a glimmer that Thor could still make his way back? To be honest, though, a smirk would've made the moment worse. Is it possible this moment is what plants the seeds for how Loki gets us to the Loki TV show? Would anyone have thought that Odin actually died and Loki is actually telling the truth here? The Odinsleep isn't that clear after all. How does Loki actually leave? Thor's goodbye feels like he's really saying goodbye to his life in Asgard. After Loki's gaslighting, Coulson finally returns. So did Loki actually control Coulson or is his return here coincidental? Again, what would Coulson see before coming in? And back to Loki's outfit, why is he wearing this? Meanwhile, Loki heads straight to Mjølnir. What have the SHIELD agents and scientists been doing since nabbing Thor? There clearly has been quite a bit of work in here since he was trying to pick up his hammer. Great hand shot of Loki's hand as he gets ready to try picking it up. Did we need Loki trying with two hands? Is Heimdall watching Loki? It's a week of Loki's gaslighting success, Coulson's return, and Loki's failed attempt at picking up Mjølnir, all while Rob and Kyle chat with us about it. Tune in! All his life, Loki has been a backstabbing, manipulating liar. He has always longed to rule other people. He tried stealing the throne of the planet Asgard and teamed up with Thanos to conquer Earth to set up his throne. After looking back over his life and seeing how he has gained nothing but being utterly alone and unsatisfied, he starts to thaw and take interest in other people. His new friend, Mobius, helps him to see that he can change and not always be the villain. In the last episode of the “Loki” TV show, he was offered the biggest throne of all. David and Ellen discuss how this idea intersects with our everyday lives, and how we as humans tend to seek after things that ultimately do not satisfy. Simply survive, or live with purpose? That is the crossroads for a Marvel character towards the end of the “Loki” TV show. An old version of Loki, the God of Mischief, has been quite successful at surviving, both during his life and now in the “Void.” Will he realize he can change his ways and that giving his life away would be more fulfilling? Ellen and David reflect on how we can apply this question to our own lives in a world where we are encouraged to live a life of self-protection. They discuss how this applies in a variety of ways, including motherhood. Romans 12:1, Matthew 6:33 INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/a_moon_in_the_dark/WEBSITE: amooninthedark.com

The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2018/11/binary-system-podcast-152-nc-comicon-limetown-hill-house-and-more-randomness/ With no Night Vale episode to recap this week, we just jumped on every random topic that wandered into our airspace, first saying a few words about the passing of Stan Lee (thank you for so many things we love, Stan) then geeking out about NC Comicon, Chuck Palahniuk, Limetown, The Haunting of Hill House, Wallander and the announcement of a Loki TV show starring Mr. Hiddleston (eeeee!) and then we had an unintentional return to the Binary System Crapfest, where we complained about The Walking Dead, the third season of Daredevil, the first season of The Punisher, and how ridiculous an author's vocabulary can get when they don't want to use the word "boobs." Skywalking through LOKI -- Season One! Richard and Sarah go deep into this Marvel Disney+ series - we talk characters, soundtrack and share press tidbits from Kate Herron (director) and Natalie Holt (composer). We also share some thoughtful comments from Loki himself, Tom Hiddleston. In Shout-Outs, it's all about you as we share your thoughts on LOKI. The series picks up right after a moment we see in Avengers: Endgame. The Avengers have traveled through time to pick up various Infinity Stones, and bungled an attempt to pick up the Tesseract (Space Stone). Instead, Loki seizes the opportunity and takes it, and disappears!!! This causes a nexus event in the timeline, because back in the original Avengers film, Loki is captured and taken back to Asgard by Thor. So in Loki TV series, we see where he reappears - in Mongolia where he is captured by the TVA - The Time Variance Authority which is a bureaucratic organization that exists outside of time and space and monitors the timeline. They give Loki a choice: face being erased from existence due to being a "time variant", or help fix the timeline and stop a greater threat - a Loki Variant. Hello to our beautiful super friends! With the release of Disney's Loki TV series upon us on June 9th, Rob and Codey will delve into the 4 films that have featured our favourite God of Mischief. I'm back and talking about VOTE LOKI (2016), for better or for worse. Hear all my excellent opinions on this comic, about what we can expect in the upcoming Loki TV show, and also why you should listen to Thor: Metal Gods today. Happy New Year!
In the very first episode of the Loki Podcast, we're talking about THOR (2011), and hopefully answering the question: how do you keep a centuries-old villain interesting? Aside from that, you can hear all the exciting news on the Loki TV show (spoilers: there's not much), I'll consider Loki's past flings in the context of their ass-ets, and I'll tell you that children aren't evil so many times that you might start to think I have some hidden agenda. Listen along, it'll be fun! Content Warnings: Very mild cursing, and a brief mention of suicide, but not much beyond what's in the movie itself.
