If you would like to give us feedback on how were doing follow us at: https://discord.gg/cd6sNqvnav https://beacons.ai/senornerdpodcast Venom is a 2018 American superhero film featuring the Marvel Comics character Venom. The first film in Sony's Spider-Man Universe (SSU), it was directed by Ruben Fleischer from a screenplay by the writing team of Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg, along with Kelly Marcel. Tom Hardy stars as Eddie Brock and Venom alongside Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze, and Reid Scott. In the film, struggling journalist Eddie gains superpowers after becoming the host of an alien symbiote, Venom, whose species plans to invade Earth. Following Venom's appearance in Spider-Man 3 (2007), Sony Pictures attempted to develop a spin-off film based on the Venom character, which was stalled due to issues with the company's ongoing Spider-Man franchise. In March 2016, work began on a new version that would start a new shared universe featuring the non-Spider-Man Marvel characters that the studio possessed film rights to. Sony also originally intended for the Venom film to share the world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), but ultimately distanced the film from Spider-Man. Sony's Columbia Pictures produced the film in association with Marvel Entertainment.[5] In March 2017, Rosenberg and Pinkner were set to write, with Fleischer and Hardy added in May; Marcel subsequently joined to rewrite the script. Filming took place from October 2017 to January 2018 in Atlanta, New York City, and San Francisco. The film was primarily inspired by the comic book miniseries Venom: Lethal Protector (1993) and the story arc "Planet of the Symbiotes" (1995). Ludwig Göransson was hired to compose the film's score, marking his second Marvel film after Black Panther (2018). Venom premiered at the Regency Village Theater on October 1, 2018, and was theatrically released in the United States on October 5. Despite receiving generally negative reviews from critics, Hardy's performance and the character's relationship with Venom were praised, and the film became the seventh-highest-grossing film of 2018, earning over $856 million worldwide and setting several box office records for an October release. It is followed by two sequels: Venom: Let There Be Carnage, which was released on October 1, 2021, and Venom: The Last Dance, which is scheduled for release on October 25, 2024. Venom: Let There Be Carnage is a 2021 American superhero film featuring the Marvel Comics character Venom. The sequel to Venom (2018) and the second film in Sony's Spider-Man Universe (SSU), it was directed by Andy Serkis from a screenplay by Kelly Marcel. Tom Hardy stars as Eddie Brock and Venom alongside Michelle Williams, Naomie Harris, Reid Scott, Stephen Graham, and Woody Harrelson. In the film, Eddie and the alien symbiote Venom must face serial killer Cletus Kasady (Harrelson) after he becomes the host of an offshoot of Venom named Carnage. Venom was intended by Sony Pictures to be the start of a new shared universe, and plans for a sequel began during production on the first film. Harrelson was cast to make a brief appearance as Cletus at the end of Venom, with the intention of him becoming the villain Carnage in the sequel. Official work on the sequel began in January 2019, with Hardy and Harrelson confirmed to return along with Marcel as writer. Serkis was hired as director that August, partly due to his experience working with computer-generated imagery (CGI) and motion capture technology, which was an important part of portraying Venom and Carnage in the film. Filming took place at Leavesden Studios in England from November 2019 to February 2020, with additional filming in San Francisco in February. The title was announced in April 2020. Marco Beltrami was hired to compose the film's score, replacing Ludwig Göransson from the previous film.
Zero and Wiz RECOMMEND Zombieland Zombieland, the hit horror-comedy from the 2010s, is all about rules. Whether it's the main character spouting his rules on how to survive or the rules the movie implements to the story itself, the film's main question is usually whether to follow them or not. And that's both a blessing and a curse for the film: It's good because it can use its self referential nature to poke fun at the stereotypes and traditions of the genre. It can also provide a much lighter, sillier mood to the proceedings of the story. The cast provides to the lighter side of the film: all four actors just seem to have fun with what's going on, with Woody Harrelson providing the most laughs with his seasoned but dim-witted Tallahassee. It's lack of dread and pathos also just add to the snappy nature of the film. Flying by at less than 90 minutes, the film relies solely on jokes and it's honestly better for it. But there's a bad side too: the characters are basically thin joke factories that work for comedy but very little else. Basically, if you aren't laughing, there isn't much else to the film to enjoy. Also, remember how the film has rules? Sometimes, the film uses those rules for good comedic effect...but in other times, it actually holds the film back. My biggest example: Wichita and Little Rock finally make it to the theme park and the first thing they do is turn on all of the sound and lights in the amusement park. When it comes to the characters, it makes sense: Wichita wanted Little Rock to have that experience again. But the film makes it clear that the zombies are perceptive to both lights and sounds as exampled by Tallahassee making noise as he enters a building in order to bring out the zombies to kill. Finally, the references to movies is appreciated in some scenes, but it gets tiring towards the end. And honestly, the Bill Murray cameo was humorous at first, but really falls flat at the end of his scene. Zombieland is enjoyable, but it's also one that could have been more creative with the comedy and concepts of the film. It's honestly hilarious in some parts, but utterly forgettable in the rest.

Editors - Diana Fishman, Adam Lichtenstein and Mary DeChambres ACE The JURY DUTY editing team had plenty of experience cutting unscripted tv before taking on the hit Freevee series. But is it actually an unscripted show? To hear their fellow JURY DUTY editor Steven Rosenthal tell it, they were "using the techniques of a reality show for the purposes of a sitcom". The end result is a series unlike any in either the unscripted or scripted comedy genres. JURY DUTY is a reality/sitcom tv series that chronicles the inner workings of a U.S. jury trial through the eyes of juror Ronald Gladden, a solar contractor from San Diego. Ronald is unaware that his jury duty summons was not official. Everything that happened, inside and outside the courtroom, was planned. And everyone in the courtroom, aside from him, was an actor. The series was produced by; Ruben Fleischer, Nick Hatton, Cody Heller, Gene Stupnitsky, Todd Schulman, Lee Eisenberg, David Bernad and Andrew Weinberg. Jake Szymanski also produced and directed. Diana Fishman Editor Diana Fishman is known for her work on the shows; GRACE AND FRANKIE (2015), THE UCB SHOW (2016-17) and SOUTH SIDE (2019-21). Adam Lichtenstein Born with a natural love for time code, Adam showed an early preference for non-drop frame, then rose through the editorial ranks pretending to enjoy sports, overusing terms like "shots on goal", "swish", "in your face" and "that's what I'm talking about" without the slightest idea what he was talking about. He recently completed work on the documentary, FILM GEEK (2023) directed by Richard Shepard. Mary DeChambres, ACE In addition to her work crafting the finale of JURY DUTY, Emmy®-winning editor Mary DeChambres is known for cutting unscripted hits such as; PROJECT RUNWAY (2008), AMERICAN NINJA WARRIOR (2013-23) and THE REAL WORLD (2002-03). It's the seventy-second episode of On The List with Brett Gursky. This week's guest Ruben Fleischer talks all about his career as a director. Ruben and Brett talk about his latest movie “Uncharted”, starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg, which was just the #1 movie in the world for 2 weeks in a row. Ruben gives Brett all the behind-the-scenes stories about the making of the film, including what it was like filming in Berlin during a global pandemic… especially when their original start date was March 16th, 2020. Then Ruben takes Brett back to the beginning, from growing up in Washington D.C. and making home movies to attending college at Wesleyan University as a history major. Ruben talks about his first gig as a P.A. on “Dawson's Creek”, which was followed by a job as director Miguel Arteta's assistant. Ruben explains how he got to direct his first movie “Zombieland” in 2009, starring Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin, Woody Harrelson, and Bill Murray- and how it catapulted his career. Then Ruben tells Brett how he chose his next film “30 Minutes Or Less”, starring Jesse Eisenberg again, alongside Danny McBride, Aziz Ansari, and Nick Swardson. From there, they talk about Ruben's third movie “Gangster Squad”, starring Sean Penn, Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, and a reunion with Emma Stone. Ruben also discusses directing the pilots for the hit NBC show “Superstore” (which he also produced), the ABC sitcom “American Housewife”, and the Netflix series “Santa Clarita Diet”, which starred Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant. Then Ruben shares stories about the making of his next two films- “Venom” starring Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, and Riz Ahmed, and “Zombieland: Double Tap”, which reunited the original cast 10 years later. Of course Brett asks Ruben if there will be more “Zombieland” and “Uncharted” movies in his future. Last but not least, Ruben shares his advice for aspiring filmmakers. Be sure to check out “Uncharted” now playing at a theater near you.

A bombastic treasure hunt with Spider-Man and Marky Mark? Sure! We'll watch that! The Naughty Dog game that started it all, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune released in 2007, was the first in a four-part smash Playstation franchise that has spawned a number of spin-offs and legitimately fun fan creations. Judging by the length of the new PlayStation Studios logo reel in front of this movie, we can likely expect Drake to kick off more big-budget interpretations of the gamer's titles. So how does Uncharted do in laying out the path for others to follow? It's a mixed bag held perilously by Tom Holland who's performance here is fun as prequel-aged Nathan Drake. From there, it's mostly downhill, likely forgettable... but a good time, too? In today's episode Eleanor Russell joins me to talk about Ruben Fleischer's 2018 comic book adaptation Venom. We discuss Tom Hardy's indelible performance as the titular extraterrestrial antihero, why Eddie Brock is a neurodivergent icon, the symbiote as a metaphor for ADHD, cooling off in lobster tanks, getting in touch with our goopy shadow selves, and our favorite parts of Seal's 90s classic "Kiss From A Rose". Note/disclaimer: the audio quality of this episode is a bit uneven due to some technical issues on my end. Blame the chaotic symbiote energy from the movie
