Crypto security isn't just about protecting wallets from hackers. Increasingly, the person holding the crypto can become the target. In this episode, David Sencil sits down with Dr. Marilyne Ordekian Panossian, incoming Assistant Professor at Durham University Law School and researcher in cryptocurrency cybercrime and regulation, to examine the growing threat of “wrench attacks” — physical attacks used to force crypto holders to surrender funds, private keys, passwords, or other credentials.Drawing from research into real-world cases, Marilyne explains how attackers identify potential victims, why peer-to-peer transactions can introduce additional risks, and how leaked KYC or personal data may expose crypto users to physical threats. The conversation also explores how organized crime networks are becoming involved, why technical knowledge alone may not keep users safe, and why holding large amounts of crypto on mobile wallets can create additional risk.Topics include: What defines a crypto wrench attack How attackers identify crypto holders KYC leaks and personal data exposure Why some regions are seeing more attacks The rise of organized crime networks Why many wrench attacks go unreported Why digital security alone isn't enough How exchanges and service providers can reduce risk Practical safety precautions for crypto users The risks of publicly displaying crypto wealth Exchange responsibility following data breaches Marilyne also shares practical ways crypto holders can reduce their exposure, including limiting public information, spreading funds across different wallet types, strengthening personal data security, and avoiding keeping large amounts readily accessible.

In this illuminating episode of Better Buildings for Humans, host Joe Menchefski welcomes physicist and daylighting pioneer Marilyne Andersen for a conversation that sheds new light—literally—on how architecture affects our health, productivity, and sense of well-being. From the science of chronobiology to eye morphology and colored glazing, Marilyne explains how light exposure shapes everything from our mood to our sleep cycles. She shares insights from her groundbreaking research at EPFL and her work with the Daylight Academy, revealing why daylight may be more than a design feature—it might be a human right. Plus, discover how her new role at GESDA is helping bridge the gap between scientific discovery and societal impact. A must-listen for anyone designing spaces for real human needs.More About Marilyne Andersen:Marilyne Andersen is a Full Professor at EPFL and head of the LIPID lab since 2010, after 6 years at MIT as tenure-track professor. On y va ? www.onethinginafrenchday.com
Wingnut Social: The Interior Design Business and Marketing Podcast
Today we're talking about building community through interior design - spoiler: it's great for your bottom line. Interior designers Maryline Damour and Jennifer Salvemini share some tips on finding your community, building connections, and keeping an open mind when it comes to your career path and growth. Maryline Damour is a founding partner and principal interior designer of Damour Drake. Her work has been featured in magazines including House Beautiful, Architectural Digest and Elle Decor and on PBS and The Drew Barrymore Show. Maryline is also the founder of the Kingston Design Showhouse, an annual showcase that celebrates Hudson Valley design and connects the design/build industry in the region. As a student of anthropology and philosophy, Jennifer Salvemini's academics evolved into a passion for aesthetic expression in all areas of culture. She developed an intense appreciation for deep sensory experiences and finds great satisfaction in fostering meaningful experiences for others. Jennifer's professional life straddles careers in hospitality and fashion spanning over 15 years in New York City. She began her interior design practice 5 years ago and has been creating happily in the Catskills ever since. *** ⭐️What does “building community through interior design” even mean? Today we're discussing building community through design. What does that mean? As interior designers and entrepreneurs, we often find ourselves living in “business bubbles,” feeling isolated and that we're constantly reinventing the wheel when starting our businesses. Jennifer explains the goal of community-building is to connect people to each other - makers to makers, builders to makers, designers to makers, designers to builders - to bridge all of these networks and create larger infrastructure, so we can support the individual work of one another while simultaneously creating opportunities for collaboration. When we work together, more interesting products get created. More projects emerge. There are more solutions to problems. And of course…it's more fun! Plus, collaborating with other creatives and artists can have a positive impact on your local economy. ⭐️How can I build my community and connections without a show house? Jennifer finds that using Instagram to connect with other locals, whether it be restaurants or building communities or artists, has been wildly successful. What about growing your Instagram? Marilyne says the way to get a million followers is via targeting. If you target the people who are interested, they will amplify the message to others who are interested. Marilyne's audience has grown by appealing to other creators. By targeting, you can grow your social platform in a way that matters to you and can ultimately feed your business. ⭐️Is it weird to have another interior designer in my community? It's important to stay connected with your fellow designers. Marilyne thinks that competition is only a thing if you make it a thing. There are more opportunities when you collaborate, and the market is so diverse in need that your clientele is likely different from that of your collaborators. ***
Flâner is typically a Parisian activity. You just let yourself drift from a place to another. You can wander while you visit the Grands magasins, for example. This is what we did my friend Marilyne and I at the Printemps and at the Galeries Lafayette. These two Grands magasins are close to the Opéra Garnier and to the Gare Saint-Lazare. They were both created in the XIXth century, the Printemps first, then a few years later the Galeries Lafayette. What is the difference between these two department shops? This what you are going to hear in today's episode. In the notes that go with the transcript, I will highlight for you some typical expressions and tell you in a few words how those stores were created. www.cultivateyourfrench.com
It's a great thing to improve your understanding skills, you feel more confident and it's almost the basic of a language. You understand what people tell you in French. Sometimes, we are so focused on understanding that we almost forget to improve our speaking. When you understand enough, you have to prepare yourself for the next step which is « talking in French ». Yes, talking! Never forget to talk, it's important ! But, you have to be ready. To train yourself to your next visit to France, today's episode and next week's episode are about talking in French. Today, you will buy some macarons. Yes, don't you remember that you have to offer a box for your friend's birthday? There is so much choice in the shop, which flavours are you going to choose? Are you ready? You are in Paris, the pâtisserie is lovely, the window is full of colourful macarons. First you are going to hear the dialogue between my friend Marilyne, who plays the seller, and myself, the customer. Then, to make things more practical, you will also hear only the seller lines. With the other part of the dialogue left blank, you will be able to act as if you were the customer at the macaron shop! In the transcript, we study some sentences particularities and I challenge you to leave me an audio message, you ordering by phone in French some lovely macarons. This is a repeat broadcast ! All the information about the transcripts, notes and photos is available at www.cultivateyourfrench.com
Our guests are Franckie Alarcon and Marilyne Letertre. Franckie is an illustrator and comic artist based in Paris. He recently published a fabulous comic book, The Art of Sushi. The title sounds very ambitious, but he does not disappoint you. I first learned about the book by reading a recommendation by an experienced Japanese sushi chef. The book is about Franckie and Marilyne's adventures in Japan to discover real sushi. Their French perspective casts refreshing views on Japanese culture and Franckie objectively analyzes its essence in the book. There are many top-of-the-industry professionals featured in the book from a Michelin-starred chef to a fisherman, a rice farmer to a soy sauce maker, and they generously share their insights with you. And because it is a comic book illustrated by Franckie himself, reading it is so much fun and you feel like you are visiting Japan and spending time with the characters. In this episode, we will discuss how Franckie became so fascinated by sushi, so much so that he decided to write a book about it, the amazing characters in the book, what he learned from them, and much, much more!!!(Marilyne is beautifully translating Franckie's French to English in this episode.)Heritage Radio Network is a listener supported nonprofit podcast network.
