There's no time to celebrate the 400th episode of Beyond Synth because Mike and Andy are too busy doing John Rhys-Davies impressions while talking about ketamine, ground nutmeg, Murdoch and David Dastmalchian. The titular hosts speculate about 90s movie sequels, and Andy doesn't like the Elves' square heads in the Amazon Lord of the Rings series. Meanwhile Mike teaches Andy about the twin fairies Shobijin who communicate with Mothra. Plus we hear lots of great music from the Retro Power Chart! Def, Jules and Mike are back this week to explore the method to Jules' boardgame-culling madness, the experience of sharing the hobby with the Oz Comic Con community, and everyone's next favourite game from Vital Lacerda. Meanwhile Jules has been having a feast of fun with Bites, Mike has been navigating through the lies of Blood On The Clocktower, and Def is finally ready to talk about Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon. In the Board Game Bracket we settle the last match-up, Quacks of Quedlinburg vs Too Many Bones, before we cue up the next battle: Gaia Project vs Raiders of the North Sea. To make sure your favourite goes through to the next round make sure you vote on our socials. Finally, in Swear An Oath, Jules successfully played a multi-player game of Age of Steam, but failed to get Ortus Regni to the table. Meanwhile Mike is still yet to play Viscounts of the West Kingdom, and Def can't decide if he fulfilled his On Mars: Alien Invasion oath or not? New oaths include Root: The Marauder Expansion (Jules), Picture Perfect (Mike), and Railways of Australia (Def). I was born in Peru but grew up in several countries throughout Europe and South America including Italy, Spain, Germany, Venezuela, Chile, Argentina, etc. Throughout my life I had 3 constant dreams/ passions: that of becoming an artist or working in the Art world, cooking and moving to Paris. in 2002 I moved to NYC and met my husband Mike, we lived in NYC and then San Francisco where we both had a chance to develop careers in our passions (Mike with music as a sound engineer mixing and mastering albums and me in a creative environment as an event and floral designer)I worked on many high profile events designing wonderful tablescapes for weddings, birthdays, and galas but my true love really was with visual arts. When we left San Francisco and I started my own company I vowed to use my workshop space and notoriety to sponsor young emerging local artists. I started producing and curating art exhibits whenever I had a chance, organizing cool openings with my event planning knowledge. Meanwhile Mike was accumulating a very large collection of vinyl records so he would come spin at my art openings and this when our "Vinyl Meets Art" adventure began. As time went by and the country fell into a political climate we did not like, we decided that it might be the perfect time to finally make that dream of living in Paris come true. So in the summer of 2019 we packed our belongings, our massive album collection, books and whatever could fit in 4 suitcases, sold the rest and moved to the City of Light. Little did we know things would not work out as planned. Between the greve of 2019 and the Covid Pandemic we were not able to advance career wise and we were spending too much money in Paris. The kids were not happy trapped in a 50sq. m apartment either. This is when we decided to move to the countryside and invest our savings in something that combined both our passions: Vinyl and Art by opening The Flipside Vinyl Disquaire and Art Space in Toucy. We've been open for 1 month and have been very well received and we plan to exhibit young artist in our small gallery space "La Galerie" and in the fall we'll start music/art workshops for children, as well as monthly music events. www.costamagnadesign.comwww.theflipsidevinyl.com@theflipsidevinyl@theflipside_lagalerieSupport the show (https://www.patreon.com/join/Laviecreative)
This week's big announcement is Car-Chum confirming its 2022 availability to officiate at closing ceremonies. Also, Tony is proven right on Romanian pronunciation, he gets all thoughtful about the future and promises to spend more time on his motorbike. Meanwhile Mike surprises everyone by reviewing some big new car releases for panned for the year ahead. The Car-Chums do find some common ground though, by agreeing that they both like the Rover 800 and Porsche Cayman.
Alice looks into Apitherapy, the practice of using bee stings for therapeutic purposes, and Marsh talks about COP26 and the ‘charitable’ lobbying efforts of climate change denial. Meanwhile Mike gets excited about the new series of Doctor Who. Mixed and edited by Morgan Clarke.
The JaMmers try to get serious this week with discussions about the COP26 and Instagram vaccine conspiracies, but then Mike farts and normal service resumes. Jon is upset that a TikTok'r is getting famous by telling rubbish facts, which is something he has done for 68 episodes now and continues on this one. However, he may be getting gout so swings and roundabouts. Meanwhile Mike's got a new hat...pretty exciting stuff bet you can't wait to listen. (Disclaimer: By time of writing this bio I have forgotten what's been edited out of the podcast so some of the above may or may not be in this episode) The Morning JaM would be absolutely walking on sunshine if you contacted them at hello@morningjam.co.uk, especially to give your opinion on whether Mike's Nailbourne fact is better than Jon's Todd River fact. Theme tune is sampled from Walking Back to El Paso from texasradiofish
This episode of the Morning JaM starts with Mike misspelling cobra and it goes down hill from there. Jon has a move imminent, if the Northern Territory will let him in. Mike, meanwhile, is definitely in lockdown again. Meanwhile Mike's urine has turned green, and even more worryingly, his new furniture is brown and floral. Mike also asks why there were no Pokemon at the Olympics and Jeremy Clarkson questions Mike and Jon's life decisions. Also the whole episode has a weird dinosaur theme because Jon just happened to watch Jurassic Park and / or World. The Morning JaM would be roaring with delight if you contacted them at hello@morningjam.co.uk, especially to tell them what dinosaur you would be if you had to be a dinosaur? Theme tune is sampled from Walking Back to El Paso from texasradiofish
When Jon feels a sudden pain in his chest the Morning JaM pontificates on three possible reasons, could it be caused by a) A blood clot from Jon's recent AstraZeneca vaccine? b) A broken rib from Jon going ass-over-tit running to get his UberEats Delivery? or, c) Jon is a hypochondriac and actually completely fine. Yes, no fear, this episode title does not indicate a turn towards serious debate for the Morning JaM, the JaMmers just wonder if Jon's AstraZeneca-induced fever dreams are a worse than Mike's Pfizer induced-number twos. Meanwhile Mike is in Coronavirus Groundhog Day, urinating in wide-open areas, watching too much Olympics, and drinking too many beers. Jon on the other-hand is confused by his favourite sport's penalties and celebrating 25 years of Dolly The Sheep. The Morning JaM has also received a less than complimentary piece of correspondence. The Morning JaM would be gleeful if you contacted them at hello@morningjam.co.uk, whether it be complementary or not. Theme tune is sampled from Walking Back to El Paso from texasradiofish
Episode 120 - Teotihuacan Late Pre-classic Period and Shadow of Xitle , Architects of the West Kingdom, Red 7, The Mind On this episode Steve, Conor and Mike bring new meaning to the word 'chaos'. Once the dust settles, the lads discuss board gaming statistics - do they keep gaming stats? Why? How do you use/refer to them? Which of our hosts is anti-stats? In the Sizzling Games segment Steve has explored the expansions to Teotihuacan, Late Pre-classic Period and Shadow of Xitle, and he gives us a rundown on how they significantly improve the game. Conor dived deeper into Architects of the West Kingdom with the Age of Artisans expansion. Meanwhile Mike has been playing the ever-changing Red 7, and also the mind-melding The Mind. In the Bracket Battle 2.0 we tally up the scores and find out if Too Many Bones or Dwellings of Eldervale took the chocolates. Then, we set-up the next battle: Ganz Schon Clever vs Raiders of the North Sea. Make sure you head to our socials and cast your vote to make sure your favourite goes through to the next round. Finally in Swear An Oath, Mike has Stone Age still on the shelf and Marvel Champions ready to go, Conor played Raiders of Scythia but hasn't got around to Galaxy's Most Wanted just yet, and Steve played Circadian's First Light and also achieved a new personal best in Hadrian's Wall. New oaths sworn include Scape Goat (Mike), Cloud Age (Conor), The West Kingdom Tomesaga (Steve) and Galaxy's Most Wanted (Steve). Sizzling Games: Teotihuacan Expansions (6:45), Architects of the West Kingdom (21:20), Red 7 & The Mind (37:07) Topic of the Pod: Recording Our Gaming Stats (54:12) Board Game Bracket Battle 2.0: Dwellings of Eldervale vs Too Many Bones (01:15:04) Swear an Oath: (01:37:25) **BOARD GAME BBQ GAME DAY** Join us for the second Board game BBQ Day to be held in Sydney! Put your hockey masks on and get your chainsaws revved up, things are gonna get slasher-y this week!! We watched the 2009 single-season murder mystery, Harper’s Island! Who wouldn’t want to set their wedding in the isolated location where a violent serial killer had chopped up their friends and family only a few short years prior?! It’s show that tests the limit of how many characters can be crammed into a single plot! It’s a horror show that takes music cues right out of teen dramas. It’s a show that… we actually liked?? Dun dun dunnnnn!! We also debate whether Robin Hood is a serial killer, flex our boat term knowledge, discuss the fabulous career of director Jon Turtletaub and sing the classic tune “Let’s All Get a Boat.” Plus Morgan declares her desire to “rebirth” John Mulaney, her imprinted memories of The Man in the Iron Mask, and naming her favorite monkey movies. Meanwhile Mike explains why Dawson’s Creek is awesome, remembers an old Carl's Jr commercial in disturbing detail, and admits he has no idea how much diamonds cost! A that and so much… gore! (It's not actually gory, but you get the idea) Cut the Shit: Morgan - Scream Mike - House on Sorority Row If you enjoy the show please help spread the word by giving us a quick review on iTunes and sharing us with friends. Who was the original model for truck nuts? This is one of many questions pondered by Mike Quindlen, a beloved comedian and booker in the Baltimore comedy scene. Mike talks about how and why he got involved in comedy, and Dan explores more of Gary Gulman’s comedy tips to the point where we should probably worry that Dan is in a Gary Gulman cult. Dan and Mike also talk about dealing with hecklers. Dan wants to improve a bit he’s been using dealing with his personal anxiety, while Mike is looking for a way to get an audience to enjoy his rant about genealogies. It's spooky satanic shenanigans meets high-priced Manhattan real estate, in the first show ever made for horror geeks and architecture nerds! If you're looking for thrills, chills and soul damning deals, tell the cabbie to take you to 666 Park Avenue! After concluding that the show is neither Lucifer nor Ugly Betty (but not ruling out that it may secretly be Castle Rock Season 2) Mike and Morgan dig into this slick horror drama that was sent to an early grave. Plus Morgan cries, cries, cries while calling Ms. Britney a "B," recounts the traumatizing time she watched Legion at the gym, and gives some "Revelation Exclamations." Meanwhile Mike discusses the etiquette of a Whoop-Dee-Doo, explains how zombies work, and declares secret doors to be the "coolest thing ever." And don't forget the butchering of Rocky Horror classics and an exciting round of New York City mayor trivia! If you lived here, you'd be cancelled by now!
