This is more complicated than the old country song, "I'm My Own Grandpa". A man fathers a child with a mother AND her daughter. A man tries to father SOMETHING with a TRAIN SEAT. And women spend a week honing the fine art of climaxing. Can it get any more stupid than that? Of course! My Insane FL Nephew, "Pancho Guero" & I will demonstrate in this episode...In this episode...[A Piece of My Mind] Parents Spend 67 Hours a Year "Negotiating" With Their Kids; Plan to Build a Road with Radioactive Waste in FL Prompts Legal Challenge; Someone Stole a "Thou Shalt Not Steal" Painting from a Church; New MN Bill Would Clarify That Used Bong Water Is Not Actually a Drug; A TikTok Couple Is Upset Their Mountain Cabin Is on a Mountain; Missouri Man Charged for TWICE Trying to Have Sex with a Train Seat; And Now...A Mother & Daughter Pregnant at the Same Time By The SAME MAN; Weeklong 'Orgasm Retreats' Teach Women How to Climax.Pancho has very little effort in answering some of the questions this week that are asking if Hooter's is good or bad for women & if it's wrong to take your "work spouse" for a "couple's massage" after a hard day at the job. See if you can figure out the answers along with Pancho in this week's Insane Game Show to determine if you would be at a Strip Club or a Daycare when you visit a business called, "Daddy's Rabbits" in Richmond, VA!

You may remember  Ann Magnuson from an unforgettable scene with David Bowie and Catherine Denueve at the start of the 1983 gothic horror film The Hunger, but that's not where the multimedia shapeshifter's fascination with spooky things ends. On “Ghost Cat,” Magnuson summons the creatures that haunt the hills and hollers of West Virginia to help celebrate this Dia De Los Muertos.  It's also worth resurrecting Magnuson's little ditty with comedian David Cross as he highlights the work of Bongwater as part of his Guest DJ Project in 2013.

Author Grady Hendrix dropped in on The Record Player for what became one of our favorite chats to date. Where the Pyramid Meets the Eye: A Tribute to Roky Erickson is the album that Grady brought along to discuss with Jeff and Matt.Released in 1990, Where the Pyramid Meets the Eye features an all-star cast including R.E.M., the Jesus and Mary Chain, Poi Dog Pondering, John Wesley Harding, Julian Cope, ZZ Top, Bongwater, Butthole Surfers and many others. They all pooled their musical talents in support of Austin singer-songwriter Roky Erickson (13th Floor Elevators) who was dealing with hard times. The album helped to spark a renaissance for his career, with Erickson eventually making his return to recording and playing live. Producer Bill Bentley revisited his experiences of working on Where the Pyramid Meets the Eye in a 2017 article celebrating a vinyl release of the compilation. He went on to mount a second tribute to Erickson which was released on Light in the Attic in 2021.About Grady:Grady Hendrix used to be a journalist, which means that he was completely irrelevant and could be killed and turned into food at any time. He is one of the founders of the New York Asian Film Festival, but he is not responsible for the bad parts of it. For years he was a regular film critic for the New York Sun but then it went out of business. He has written for Playboy Magazine, Slate, The Village Voice, the New York Post, Film Comment, and Variety. He has a hard time making up his mind.He is very, very beautiful, but if you ever meet him, please do not let this make you uncomfortable. He does not judge. The New Yorker once ran a short profile of him, and this means that when the time comes and they are lining people up for the Space Arks he will be guaranteed a seat ahead of you.Okay, so you can read everything in full at Grady's website. He's a funny guy. A number of his books have been optioned for movies and television, including My Best Friend's Exorcism, which you can now watch on Amazon Prime and he's got a new book coming in early 2023, which we discuss briefly in our conversation. The Record Player:Please rate and review our podcast wherever you might be listening. Al Stewart [00:31] a side: "Year of the Cat" b side: "Broadway Hotel" Janus Records J-266 1976 Scotsman Al Stewart penned this Alan Parsons-produced classic, which made it all the way up to number 8 on the Hot 100. Definitely sounds like the mid-70s to me ear. Fun fact: Janus Records was originally extension of England's Pye Records. Georgie Fame and the Blue Flames [09:00] a side: "Yeh, Yeh" b side: "Preach and Teach" Imperial Records 66086 1965 This toe tapping classic originally started as an instrumental originally recorded by Mongo Santamaria in 1963, and then shortly thereafter had lyrics added by Jon Hendricks of Lambert, Hendricks & Ross. Then in 1965 Englishman Georgie Fame. Birds of America [14:18] a side: "Yes! The a-side features Loretta's 1966 smash hit "You Ain't Woman Enough", her eighth single to make it into the top 10, up to number 2. The flipside features her 1971 single that made it up to number 5 on the country charts. Jun Mayuzumi [29:06] a side: "You and the Sun" b side: "My Love, My Love" Capitol Records CP-1040 1969 Another fine single from late 1960s Japan, the a-side in A minor for those of you playing along at home. I have it on good authority that a-side "Fushigina Taiyou" directly translates to "Strange Sun" but "You and the Sun" works fine to. Bongwater [35:39] a side: "You Don't Love Me Yet" b side: "The Porpoise Song" Shimmy Disc Records shimmy 7-98 1988 All killer no filler on this Shimmy Disc single featuring Ann Magnuson, Dave Rick & Kramer bringing us a Roky Erickson tune on the a-side and Goffin-King-by-way-of-The-Monkees b-side The Porpoise Song. Jacking Off with Rebecca and Richie

*Water bubbling* cough cough cough uhhhh this week I GUESS Rebecca and Richie are watching friggen Bongwater (1998) which is a movie you will NOT understand if you’re not a stoner, okay?? It is also unfortunately one of the most IMPORTANT films covered yet!! You might be wondering what this movie with a stacked cast of soon to be indie darlings is all about and you know what, The Two Rs would also like to know!! Are Rebecca and Richie narcs? Is this the worst movie they’ve had to watch? Is it Halloween? Was Jamie Kennedy in Ad Astra? What’s the best way to grow a tomato? Why do white people love to throw things? What happens when she’s not a manic pixie dream girl but an actual living nightmare? Does anything make sense? Can Luke Wilson’s hotness save a movie? Are you zooted? All these questions and more will be answered if you’d just Jack Off with us!! This is the third movie that is completely on youtube. Also Amazon Prime. And don’t forget, “Crazy women and stoner dudes. What a mellow life”

MKE x CHI’s SleeperSound latest release, In Media Res, finds the band crawling into crates of experimental rock, noir indie folk, ambient obscurities, and eclectic imports to create a unique statement on American guitar-rock. Sleepersound started as a solo project by David D’Antonio (guitars, vocals, synths), and was chosen by him to “invoke the desire to awaken ourselves gradually and ajar from existential slumbers that make us aloof to each other and our world.” Sleepersound developed from a previous project when David was rooted in St. Louis and Chicago — the latter where David was born and raised, coming to Milwaukee by way of Chicago, then Naples, Italy, and St. Louis. Guitarist Kenny Buesing is from Sheboygan, currently in Riverwest, Milwaukee. Drummer Dan Niedziejko grew up on the south side of Milwaukee and lives just outside it, in Cudahy. Bassist Mike Campise grew up in Chicago and now resides in Milwaukee as well. In Media Res is a Latin phrase meaning, “In the middle of things.” The sequence of songs – “Give to Time,” “Passengers,” “Gravity Well,” b/w “Terminals,” “Slow Moon,” and “Error Tape” – “all focus on the journey from life into death,” Mike says. “An exploration behind the veil of existence and into the realm of our place in the larger mechanism.” “Convergence, too,” Dan adds. “Things starting while in the middle of other things but coming together to form something new and putting other things to bed.” In Media Res was made of compositions documented, produced, and performed in drummer Dan Niedziejko’s studio, Indian Not the Arrow. The icy winds from Lake Michigan seem to blow through the six chapters, the songs are augmented by the esoteric talents of producer Kramer at Noise Miami, a true collaborator with such avant-garage bands as Galaxy 500, Low, Bongwater, Daniel Johnston, Ween, and Saeta, among others. You can hear both the original Krautrock but also the basement show-equivalent from the more elegant instrumental math-rock bands inspired by them in the 90s. In this special episode Kate asks a medium to discuss the unsolved mysteries of the disappearance of Jennifer Kesse, the death of actress Brittany Murphy, whether Amanda Knox was involved in the death of her Italian roommate Meredith Kercher, and what really happened on July 18, 1969 on Chappaquiddick Island. Jennifer Joyce Kesse lived in Orlando, Florida and has been missing since January 24, 2006. Her disappearance puzzled investigators and an aggressive search for her was conducted in the area surrounding her home. Shortly after her disappearance, her car was discovered a little over a mile from her home at a nearby apartment complex. No evidence was ever made known with regards to her, such as finger prints, DNA or cellphone location information from nearby towers. Captured footage from a nearby security camera showed an unidentified person parking Kesse's car before walking away. The case received widespread state and national press attention at the time of her disappearance.Brittany Murphy was an American actress and singer. A native of Atlanta, Murphy moved to Los Angeles as a teenager and pursued a career in acting. Her breakthrough role was as Tai Frasier in Clueless (1995), followed by supporting roles in independent films such as Freeway (1996) and Bongwater (1998). In December 2009, Murphy died of pneumonia at the age of 32. Meredith Kercher was a British student on exchange from the University of Leeds who was murdered at the age of 21 in Perugia, Italy, on 1 November 2007. Kercher was found dead on the floor of her bedroom. By the time the bloodstained fingerprints at the scene were identified as belonging to Rudy Guede, police had charged Kercher's American flatmate, Amanda Knox, and Knox's Italian boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito. The subsequent prosecutions of Knox and Sollecito received international publicity. The Chappaquiddick incident was a single-vehicle car accident that occurred on Chappaquiddick Island, Massachusetts, on Friday, July 18, 1969. The late night accident was caused by Senator Ted Kennedy’s negligence, and resulted in the death of his 28-year-old passenger, Mary Jo Kopechne, who was trapped inside the vehicle.Reality Life with Kate Casey http://www.loveandknuckles.comTwitter: @katecaseyInstagram: @katecaseycaFacebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/113157919338245/Facebook.com/loveandknucklesAmazon List: http://www.amazon.com/shop/katecaseycaSUAVEhttp://www.suave.comBOMBAShttp://www.bombas.com/realityPROMO CODE: REALITYKOPARIwww.kopari.com/reality See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

A couple 4/20's ago, we spent a day on the couch with the genre of Cult Weed Movies ("How High," "Bongwater," etc.), but today our chosen stoner movies are on a mission, maybe to nowhere. In this week's episode, we unpack the wild and circuitous journeys of some unlikely high heroes. “Inherent Vice” is groovy and insane (5:00), “Dude, Where’s My Car?” is the featherweight sci-fi prequel to “The Hangover” (37:50), and “Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle” is actually more about race than weed (51:30). With the help of Slash Film writer Marshall Shaffer (19:00) and his strong feelings about where "Inherent Vice" belongs in the PTA canon, Chance and Noah head off on their own little mission. They're searching for the proverbial lost car of their often-conflicting film taste. Light up and listen in.

People are weird. Shade goes for another round with Mark of “The Facebook”. Place your bets on who will win in the round of Shade vs. Mark.

In this weeks episode Shade & Lily Bongwater are forced to hold their very first session of Daddy Issuez Court since someone is stealing their content. But these ladies believe in putting things all out on the table so with that in mind, Shade states her case to the court and gets a bit heated (as is usually the case...). Lily Bongwater receives her very first piece of fan art and Shade is depressed because nobody loves her...except for Lily. Not to be shaken or stirred these ladies are back on track with all your favorite topics including Apocalypse Watch, Fuck that Guy, Strain of the Week, Champion of the Week, and a little something for the Sith Lord in response to accosting Shade on Damaged Goods. But before you think their shows have stopped Netflix & Chilling....we hate to disappoint but all is well. Blood in Blood out...blood everywhere.

In this episode Shade & Lily Bongwater strike Apocalypse watch from the agenda indefinitely. Shade vs. Mark is put on pause because well, he’s being deposed in front of Congress… Shade makes a plea to be reunited with her horses, while Lily is happy to lend a supportive ear before they cast their nominations for Champion of the Week…and Shade feels the love for once. Sadly anti vaxxers are too “smart” for the ladies to deal with so a former comrade has fallen in battle on the shame of his sword…which just has to be ridden with the newest pandora virus. Shade vs. Mark round 9… is on pause but that doesn’t mean the emails have ceased. #gimmemyaccount #freeShade The ladies compare their fight histories thereby landing their street cred. “I beat that ass…” -Lily Bongwater They wind down with Strain of the Week   Tip The Ladies and help them reach their dreams of being LIVE and in front of you on video and on tour by donating here:  https://www.patreon.com/DaddyIssuezShow Do YOU have Daddy Issuez? One of the more insane episodes, in terms of straight out bizarritude. We might recommend headphones and towels for this one. It is possible that you could be hurt mentally by the stereobrainsplitter effects. Heavy on the Lemur, Puzzling Evidence and ESO, there's also an IMPROVED mix of John Trubee's "A Blind Man's Penis," Bongwater, Steven Hawking reading Revelation X out-takes, and much more more. We hadn't heard this since 2003 and as we listened we stared at each other with our jaws hanging open. Weirder than usual, and it's NEVER "usual."

In the wake of 4/20, Chance and Noah try to fan away the smoke around the genre of stoner movies. They start with 1998’s HALF BAKED, which is to say, they start out frustrated. Then, Chance’s city doesn't need a special day to celebrate marijuana, but it has been 20 years since Portland produced the forgotten ‘90s slacker film BONGWATER. Chance met up with writer Jay Horton to discuss his Willamette Week feature on the cult film that wasn't (which stars Luke Wilson, Brittany Murphy, and Jack Black, among others). Around the 23-minute mark, hear Jay describe incinerating decrepit houses for movies and what the star-studded cast got up to while filming in Portland. After a Noah theory on how the latest Taco Bell commercial connects to this genre’s gender politics, your hosts round things out with a review of 2001’s HOW HIGH. Method Man and Redman burn more than a few down, and almost the Harvard campus too. How high indeed.

This return of the podcast was inspired by a musical discovery from this past summer.  This discovery led to a lengthy YouTube/internet search and ultimately a chance to finally talk about cover songs.  This intended-as-a-mini-episode but instead became a gluttonous epic of an episode was also inspired by Taylor Swift's & Ryan Adams' versions of 1989.  Contained within is a discussion of six songs that Terry feels would make interesting covers for male artists (and yes Terry is playing rock 'n' roll fantasy here as well). As She & Him, Bongwater, Tori Amos, Yo La Tengo, Beth Orton & The Breeders are known for covering songs themselves, six more songs are discussed from those artists.  In that second course, a discussion is had of those cover songs and in most cases the artists who originated them.  Tangents are definitely found within but also a brief explanation on the gap between episodes and as well as aspirations for 2016. As stated many, many times during the episode, we have a YouTube channel (Flickering Waves) that has the songs discussed in this episode and a few additional clips.  If you like what we are up to here, please follow us on Twitter (@flickeringwaves), join our Facebook group (The Flickering Waves Podcast) and subscribe and rate the podcast on iTunes.  We will close out 2015 with what will hopefully become another annual tradition, the Flickering Waves Wish List.
