Studying the evolution of a planetary body is a detective story. And Psyche is set to be NASA's next detective.
Interview with David Oh, Chief Engineer NASA's upcoming Psyche mission is a robotic spacecraft mission that will explore the asteroid 16 Psyche, which is believed to be made almost entirely of metal. The mission is scheduled to launch in October 2023and arrive at the asteroid in 2026. The spacecraft will study the asteroid's composition, geology, and magnetic field. The mission will also test a new laser communication technology that will allow for faster data transmission between Earth and the spacecraft. This interview features David Oh, a Chief Engineer for Psyche: Journey to a Metal World, a mission in NASA's Discovery program. David has experience in all phases of spacecraft development from conceptual design to deep space operations. He has worked on both Earth Orbiting and Interplanetary missions and has led teams of 20+ engineers in spacecraft design, testing, and operations. "Why do we write?" Sally asks herself this week, as she reads a novella by the 20th century writer DH Lawrence, a story of longing, dreams, desire and self-liberation. Sally is interrupted by the arrival of a gang of noisy pheasants, who annoy the local cat, the aloof and enigmatic Plucky. Sally reflects on the unknowable interiority of everyone - not just cats; and while spring cleaning, she finds a talismanic object - a faded cover of a much-loved, much-read book. Returning to Lawrence, she discusses how the bright shining physically grounded objects of the story generate a fairytale world, a place of enchantment and spells. DH Lawrence was born in 1885; the initials stand for David Herbert. He achieved as much infamy as fame in his lifetime for writings which promoted sexuality, vitality and the power of instinct; they were seen as scandalous and shocking to the sensibilities of the time. It wasn't until after his death in 1930 that Lawrence gained a favourable critical reputation; Philip Larkin said Lawrence “had more genius .. than any man could be expected to handle", while EM Forster called him "the greatest imaginative novelist of our generation". Lawrence's critical reputation dipped again in the 1970s and he remains controversial today; in this episode, Sally highlights his desire to restore to literature an apprehension of the intimacy of the body and the physical presence of things. "Gimmicks" in the Metal World are nothing new. Some more recognizable examples are the KISS/King Diamond warpaint and Iron Maiden's mascot Eddie. But there are a variety of bands that have their own ideas of trademarks that we may not even take notice. For instance, Kerry King's arm spikes, Corpsegrinder's neck and various guitarist's signature designs. So we do a deep dive into all these. You'll be surprised with what we came up with. In our "News, Views and Tunes", we geek out over "The Batman" and the Elvira/Munsters news. Musically, we crank new and used from Eric Wagner (RIP), Midnight, Vulcano, Government Issue, Druid Lord, Spill Your Guts, Fright and introduce Canuck thrashers Hyperia in our "Indie Spotlight"! The Metal World recently lost two important figures named Johnny. Mr. Johnny "Z" Zuzula was the founder/owner of the mighty Megaforce Records. The upstart label released a number of excellent albums that helped shape us as fans of our beloved genre. We also lost actor Howard Hessemen. For our more mature listeners, Hessemen will be best known as "Doctor" Johnny Fever on the awesome "WKRP In Cincinnati" sitcom aired from '78-'82. The Doctor was a major influence on the creation of Radioactive Metal. So this week we thought it would be best to pay tribute to these Johnnies. First with discussing some of our fave Megaforce albums/songs. As well, we reminisce some of our fave episodes/moments on the mighty "...K.R.P." In our "News, Views, and Tunes", we discuss Meatloaf (RIP) and menstrual cycles(!), the whole Rogan/Young spotify thing, and the new/classic Slaughter album! Musically we crank new and used from Exciter, MOD ClassicTK, Pupil Slicer, Abhoria, Solicitor, the aforementioned Slaughter, and introduce Swearwolf in our "Indie Spotlight". Now that both your wonderful hosts have hit the Big Five - Oh, we came to the realization that there will be a variety of other significant stuff in the Metal World that will be sharing the same Bday this year. Namely, 1972. This week we take deep dive into '72 going over some key events, band formations, and new albums. It's nice to know we were at least on the Earth during this fabulous year. As well, Decibel magazine released their "Top 40 Albums of 2021" issue. So we give our two-bits about it. Ho! Ho! Holy Shit! It's that time again. But before we wrap up this year and unwrap some of Satan's...uhm...Santa's gifts, we're gonna start your hooligan holidaze with another banging episode. This particular discussion topic we have to squeeze into this year. 2021 marks the 40th (!) anniversary of 1981. Those 365 days provided the Metal World with some key album releases, band formations and news stories. We go over all the whys and wherefores that helped shape our beloved genre as we know and love it. In our "News, Views, and Tunes", we have some cool gear and comic talk and discuss Dolly Patron's boobs (!!). Musically, we crank some new and used from Cirith Ungol, Hellwitch, Tower, Sortilege, Casket Robbery, JFA, and Mausoleum! So, Merry Christmas and all that rot. Horns Up and Stay Healthy! "Two doctors walk into a bar...a pair of docs". Ok, we're mixing up bad jokes here but you get the idea. To the Metal World though, Paradox is an awesome veteran band spawned from the legendary 80s German thrash scene. Paradox have a new platter on the shelves in the form of "Heresy 2 - End Of The Legend". A worthy sequel to their most famous record. So we sat down with the man behind the legend Charly Steinhauser. We get into the new record, their former label Roadrunner (now and then) and we find out exactly what a "paradox" is. In our "News, Views, and Tunes", we talk the Elvira 40th Anniversary special and sign a petition to get punk legend Chi-Pig (SNFU) a spot on the Canadian Walk of Fame. Musically, we crank new and used from Paradox, Iron Angel, Lock Up, Doom, Government Issue, Christian Muenzer, Dolore, Morbific, the aforementioned SNFU and introduce Chicago's Creepshow in our "Indie Spotlight". Hello metal heads. After a two-week summer vacation, Jon “The Vernomatic “Verno is excited to be back in the Metal mayhem ROC studios for a brand-new show. Tonight, we are paying tribute to way too many rockers that have passed recently. THIS week lost DUSTY HILL of ZZ TOP, Mike Howe of METAL CHURCH, and JOEY JORDASON of SLIPKNOT fame. last week we lost both JEFF LABAR and GARY CORBETT of CINDERELLA and It was announced that John “Hutch'' Hutchinson of DAVIOD BOWIE fame had passed this spring. Vernomatic is joined by show contributors Mark James from Marks Metal Assault Internet Radio show and Ian O'Rourke from the band MOTORLORD. Vernomatic, Mark and Ian reflect on these musicians, their music and the impact that they had on the rock and Metal world. Way too much death to not acknowledge and show some respect for these late rockers. THANK YOU for the support and always remember to KEEP IT HEAVY!

No "Creature Feature?" No pro-blem-o! Here at the RAM offices, we're veterans of the scene. A.K.A. we're old. Having gone heavy music full time in '84, we've seen a lot stuff about our beloved genre come and go. While we look back fondly on what was, there is a number of cool stuff from today we'd love to take back to those glory daze. On the flip side, there's a number of cool stuff from yesteryear that we'd love to see as a part of today's scene. So we put on our thinking helmets and share our thought on creating a "fully armed and operational" Metal World! In our "News, Views and Tunes", we crank new tunage from Artillery, Pestilence, CroMags, Bongzilla, Morbosidad and introduce Pennsylvania's Befell in our "Indie Spotlight". Horns Up and Stay Healthy! Rob Halford has been the lead singer for heavy metal band Judas Priest for the past half century. Halford talks to Dennis Miller about how he came out to his parents and how he first knew he was gay.

No "Creature Feature" = no pro-blem-o! We may not have an interview subject to grill, but there's still plenty of meat on this week's bone to gnaw on. First off, we compare and contrast the handling of this covid crisis at live shows in the US (Great White) compared to Switzerland (Destruction). Also, twitter has been all the rage in the Metal World as we go over the recent Chris Jericho/Sebastian Bach debacle. As well, we go over why trapt had abysmal first week sales. Some people just need to keep their twitter traps shut! To help figure all this out we enlisted the expertise of Shit Happens drummer/Ninjacat Productions dude, Dustin "Ducky" Maruca. In our "News, Views, and Tunes", we pay tribute to the legendary Chi-Pig (SNFU). Musically, we crank tunage from Mortuous, Live Burial, Entry, Manhole, of course some SNFU, and introduce Arizona's The Exiled Martyr in our "Indie Spotlight"! Horns Up and Stay Healthy! The 365 Days of Astronomy, the daily podcast of the International Year of Astronomy 2009
Recorded May 7, 2014. Dr. Al Grauer hosts. Dr. Albert D. Grauer ( @Nmcanopus ) is an observational asteroid hunting astronomer. Dr. Grauer retired from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 2006. travelersinthenight.org Today's 2 topics: - The Kepler Space Craft has found tiny regular dips in light from a star which is about 500 light years away in the constellation of Cygnus. The dips in brightness come about when planets pass between their star and the Earth. This particular star has at least 5 planets. One of them is named Kepler-186f. - The asteroid Psyche is named for a Greek mythological figure. It was discovered in 1852 as a moving point of light in the night sky. The size and mass of Psyche suggest that it is dense enough to consist largely of iron. We've added a new way to donate to 365 Days of Astronomy to support editing, hosting, and production costs. The Souza name needs no introduction to The Metal World. Steve "Zetro" Souza has attained legendary with the underground for his brilliant work with the mighty Exodus. But his legacy (see what i did there) will live on in the form of Hatriot. Already no stranger to this show, Hatriot is the side project Zetro formed with his sons Cody and Nick. Now with Exodus taking up so much of the elder Souza's time, the band has been left in the capable hands of his offspring. With the new record "From Days Unto Darkness" just hitting the racks, we got Cody Souza on the horn. We discussed the new album, the band monicker in today's political climate, and The Bay Area yesterday and today. In our "News, Views, and Tunes", we discuss the Tool/bieber thing, The Metallica tix fiasco, and heavy metal underwear(?)!! The asteroid Psyche is named for a Greek mythological figure. It was discovered in 1852 as a moving point of light in the night sky. This small world is about 155 miles in diameter and orbits the Sun between Mars and Jupiter every 5 years. A visit to Psyche would allow us to directly study a naked planet's core and provide clues as to the nature of what is beneath our feet.

With seemingly every band either travelling to and/or playing the Maryland Deathfest we found ourselves without a "Creature Feature" this week. No pro-blem-o. This week we kick up our feet, broke out the beer and Lemmys, and just let loose. Everyone has played the "If I Won The Lottery" game. If money were no object, what would you do. We had our drunken version of this game geared toward Heavy Metal. Where would we go. What we do. How would we contribute further to the Metal World. Crack open one of your faves and give this a listen. In our "News, Views, and Tunes",we pay tribute to artists that created some key Metallic art. We crank some new tunes from Hate, Martydod, Jesus Piece, some classic Sodom and SNFU, and introduce Wykan in our "Indie Spotlight". Horns!! This Episode is sponsored by Trve Kvlt Coffee. What if the super buff wizard holding three different orbs on the side of your van could run a tabletop roleplaying game? It might come out something like METAL WORLD. […]
Listen as we go over the highlights of heavy metal in 2018. You'll hear about our favorite albums, bands, and independent artists.
The Music Biz has more than its share of unsung heroes. This day and age to "make it" in the Metal World a band has to be constantly out on the road. Just like any other form of entertainment, more often than not, the artist leaves their spouse at home while he/she pursues the Rock n Roll dream. Very seldom is the story of these significant others ever heard. "Blue" Spinazola (Fit For An Autopsy, Dysentery) is one of those road warriors and a good friend of the show. A package deal with "Blue" is his girlfriend Caitlin. She's a perfect candidate to represent this silent, but important, group. We had an awesome chat with Caitlin discussing dealing with him on the road and all the trials and tribulations it brings. Words of wisdom you won't soon forget. In our 'News, Views, and Tunes", we had a unique chat with none other than Micheal Myers about his new, smash "Halloween" film. As well, we get into Disturbed piercings, Marilyn Manson dildos, and the recent success of the returning As I Lay Dying. Musically we crank new tunes from Marduk, Craft, Blood Of The Wolf, and introduce Ottawa's Ominous Eclipse in our "Indie Spotlight". Horns!! This Episode is sponsored by Trve Kvlt Coffee.
