Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays Everyone, Angela Bowen here, the host of Looking Back On My Wonder Years: A Wonder Years Podcast. Here's a gift from me to you, an episode of a TV Show I've never covered for the podcast before but am very fond of. Boy Meets World S1E10: Santa's Little Helper, which aired on December 10, 1993. In this episode Shawn's dad gets laid off right around Christmas, so Cory vows to get Shawn a present for Christmas this year. Santa Claus has a heart attack when Morgan sits on his lap, traumatizing her. I really liked this episode. It was funny and sweet and tugged at my heartstrings. It truly reminded me what it was like to be a kid in the 90's since I was the boys's age Cory and Shawn. Minkus got on my ever loving nerve this episode with his constant chant to Shawn "Do you have the $5 you owe? to the point that I was hoping Shawn was going to punt him into the lunch room wall. Feeny of course teaches Cory a valuable lesson outside of the classroom as well since they're fence neighbors as well as teacher and student. Giving a gift without the expectation of thanks. A Christmas Carol telling in the theme through the episode and I was wondering if the closest version of the for the kids and myself in the 90's was Mickey's Christmas Carol. I really had a fun time covering this episode and maybe I'll revisit the show again at a later date down the road. Have a wonderful holiday today and a Happy New Year too.

Happy Holidays Everyone, Angela Bowen here, the host of Looking Back On My Wonder Years: A Wonder Years Podcast. Today, as another holiday treat for you, here is my review of 1983's Mickey's Christmas Carol Synopsis: Based on the Charles Dickens novel, only with a Disney twist. In dreary London, on Christmas Eve, miserly Scrooge goes to work in his counting house, where also resides his only employee, Bob Cratchit. Through the course of the cold workday, Scrooge is visited by several people. The first is his nephew Fred, bring joyous tidings of the season, which warms Cratchit's heart, but infuriates Scrooge. Fred has come to invite Scrooge for Christmas dinner, but Scrooge declines. The next visitors are two gentlemen collecting funds to help the poor. Scrooge verily turns them away without any generosity. As the day ends, Scrooge allows Cratchit's wish to have half of Christmas day off, but demands that he be on time the day after. After closing the counting house, Scrooge heads to his own home. At the front door to his home, he is shocked when the doorknocker seems to take on the form of his former partner, Jacob Marley. Scrooge is later shocked when upon entering his bed chambers, the spirit of his long-dead partner appears before him, wrapped in chains as punishment for robbing widows and swindling the poor during his life. Marley cautions Scrooge that this same fate awaits him, and that he will then be visited later that night by three spirits. Scrooge cautiously goes to bed, and is soon awoken by the first spirit, The Ghost of Christmas Past. The spirit takes Scrooge back to happier times, when he was employed by a man named Fezziwig. The spirit shows Scrooge a glimpse of a once happy Christmas party, where he was introduced to a lovely young woman named Isabelle. The scene then dissolves to Scrooge's counting house, where 10 years after the meeting of Isabelle, Scrooge has grown to care more for money than her, and after foreclosing on Isabelle's cottage, she leaves him forever. Scrooge is returned to his bed chambers to ponder this, when he is then visited upon by The Ghost of Christmas Present, who then shows Scrooge a vision of Bob Cratchit's family sitting down to a small Christmas dinner. Of the family, Scrooge is drawn to Cratchit's son, Tiny Tim, who relies on a crutch to walk. Even though the meal is meager, Tim still sees no reason why they should not thanks Scrooge for the meal, since he is Bob's employer. The spirit then cautions Scrooge that Tim is ill, and that if things do not get better, he will die. Scrooge is then confronted by The Ghost of Christmas Future, who takes him to a graveyard, where the Cratchit's have come to visit Tiny Tim's grave. Scrooge is incensed by this, but then grows even more shocked when he finds his own grave, freshly dug. The spirit then proceeds to throw Scrooge into the grave, as the old miser promises to change. Scrooge then wakes up in his bed chambers, and finds that Christmas day has come. Rushing out into the streets, Scrooge encounters the two men from the day before, and eagerly donates 100 gold pieces to their charity. Scrooge also find his nephew Fred, and tells him that he'll be joining him for Christmas dinner, to the shock and delight of the young man. Scrooge then finally pays a visit to Cratchit, arriving with a sack of toys for the children, and the promise of making Bob a partner in his business, and increasing his salary. I really enjoyed covering this for you all, as this Disney short is very near and dear to my heart. Basil, the rodent Sherlock Holmes, investigates the kidnapping of a toy-maker and uncovers its link to his arch-enemy, Professor Ratigan.โ—‹ Thoughts and Reactions?โ—‹ Fun Factsโ–  The clock tower scene is the first major use of computer animation (the clock's gears) in a feature-length animated film. The same scene was also the first time traditionally-animated characters were put inside a computer-generated background.โ–  The "Let Me Be Good To You" segment was almost cut because though brief, the lyrics and some animation was considered "too risque" for a Disney animated family film, the animators avoided a PG rating and got the scene kept in by appealing to the censors on the grounds that the segment was a Cabaret song and harmless in lyrics, and because the character animated singing it was a mouse, not a human and thus not questionable.โ–  Basil of Baker Street is named after Basil Rathbone, who played Sherlock Holmes in 14 films. By strange coincidence, Basil was also a name used by a disguised Holmes in Arthur Conan Doyle's "The Adventure of Black Peter."โ–  Alan Young had performed a near-perfect Scottish accent as the voice Scrooge McDuck for the 1977 Disneyland Records adaptation of "A Christmas Carol" (which he also developed and wrote). He repeated the role of McDuck in Mickey's Christmas Carol(1983), and was a natural for the Scottish accent of Hiram Flaversham.โ–  The first meeting between Basil and Dawson where Basil guesses he came from Afghanistan and gives a complicated explanation how he assume it, mirrors first meeting between Holmes and Watson in Arthur Conan Doyle's "A Study in Scarlet" (the first Holmes novel) where Holmes does the same thing.โ–  Production took only one year to complete thanks to the use of computers.โ— Segment: This week in Disney history โ€œOnce Upon a Timeโ€โ—‹ April 10th 1992 - Disney's live-action feature film musical Newsies is released in theaters.โ— Segment: News/Announcements โ€œThe Newsies Bannerโ€โ—‹ Should be getting Star Wars Episode 9 Trailer the day this episode goes up. โ—‹ Dumbo is not doing well at the box officeโ–  "Oh man, they could teach a film course on why Dumbo didn't work.
