When a mother heard her own voice from five hours earlier coming through her baby monitor, she realized she was witnessing something that shouldn't be possible—a tear in time itself. What would you do if you walked into a movie theater and suddenly jumped three hours forward, or if your car transported 20 miles in an instant to escape a traffic stop? A Victorian man appears in 1950s Times Square, two women slip back to Marie Antoinette's era, and a father and son lose an entire day in five minutes. These people swear they've experienced time slips, dimensional rifts, and impossible jumps through time—and their stories might make you question reality itself.Join the DARKNESS SYNDICATE for the ad-free version: https://weirddarkness.com/syndicateTake the WEIRD DARKNESS LISTENER SURVEY and help mold the future of the podcast: https://weirddarkness.com/surveyIN THIS EPISODE: Time travel, time slips, lost time, traveling to other dimensions and realities. Drusilla and Josh honor the late, great Donald Sutherland in The Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978). From wiki: “Invasion of the Body Snatchers is a 1978 American science-fiction horror film[1] directed by Philip Kaufman, and starring Donald Sutherland, Brooke Adams, Veronica Cartwright, Jeff Goldblum, and Leonard Nimoy. Released on December 22, 1978, it is based on the 1955 novel The Body Snatchers by Jack Finney. The novel was previously adapted into the 1956 film of the same name. The plot involves a San Francisco health inspector and his colleague who over the course of a few days discover that humans are being replaced by alien duplicates; each is a perfect biological clone of the person replaced, but devoid of empathy and humanity.”But also: House of Mortal Sin, Night Watch, The Amityville Horror, House of Psychotic Women, Identikit, MASH, Pauline Kael, sequels, The Eyes of Laura Mars, Suspiria, and more!NEXT WEEK: The Uninvited (1944) Follow them across the internet:Bloodhaus: https://www.bloodhauspod.com/https://twitter.com/BloodhausPodhttps://www.instagram.com/bloodhauspod/Drusilla Adeline:https://www.sisterhydedesign.com/https://letterboxd.com/sisterhyde/ Joshua Conkelhttps://www.joshuaconkel.com/https://www.instagram.com/joshua_conkel/https://letterboxd.com/JoshuaConkel/

In this episode we sit down once again with Jack Seabrook - The author of two books on popular fiction: Martians and Misplaced Clues: The Life and Work of Fredric Brown (1993) and Stealing Through Time: On the Writings of Jack Finney (2003). He has had articles published in crime fiction magazines such as The Armchair Detective and he is a lifelong reader of comic books! Among other things he intends to educate the world to the joys of Alfred Hitchcock Presents and DC War and Horror comics. We listen to "Thou Still Unravished Bride" originally published in EQMM, October 1958. I would also encourage you to watch the Alfred Hitchcock episode so you can compare and contrast the story and adaptation. For more information see www.avramdavidson.com

It is the 550th episode of the Dark Discussions Podcast and as usual, we choose a "tent pole" film to discuss. Like before, we placed a poll on the Facebook group where anyone could go vote for twelve different films for us to discuss (chosen each by our co-hosts). With a close down-to-the-wire race, the winner was co-host Mike's choice - INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS (1978) When health inspector Matthew's (Donald Sutherland) co-worker Elizabeth (Brooke Adams) feels her fiancé seems different, the two discover a strange parasitic flower that they feel may be part of the problem. As they join with their friends, the group begin to piece together things. And as they work through the mystery, a wave of hysteria seems to sweep across their home city of San Francisco. Considered a classic and one of the best remakes in film history, the movie brings an all-star cast that includes Donald Sutherland, Jeff Goldblum, Leonard Nimoy, Veronica Cartwright, and Brooke Adams. Cameos from the original film include Don Siegel (the director of the 1956 movie) and leading man Kevin McCarthy. The movie is directed by Philip Kaufman and written by W.D. Richter based off the original novel The Body Snatchers by Jack Finney. Listen to the crew discuss this fantastic film

Jeff & Kim are joined by Mike as a guest host to review the 1978 film "Invasion of the Body Snatchers." They also discuss the films "Top Gun" and "Top Gun: Maverick," as well recent TV shows "The Essex Serpent" and "Annika." Invasion of the Body Snatchers is a 1978 American science-fiction horror film[3] directed by Philip Kaufman and starring Donald Sutherland, Brooke Adams, Veronica Cartwright, Jeff Goldblum, and Leonard Nimoy. Released on December 22, 1978, it is based on the 1955 novel The Body Snatchers by Jack Finney. The novel was previously adapted into the 1956 film of the same name. The plot involves a San Francisco health inspector and his colleague who over the course of a few days discover that humans are being replaced by alien duplicates; each is a perfect copy of the person replaced, but devoid of human emotion. Released in the United States over the Christmas weekend of 1978, Invasion of the Body Snatchers grossed nearly $25 million at the American box office. It initially received varied reviews from critics, though its critical reception has significantly improved in subsequent years, receiving a 92% on Rotten Tomatoes and also being hailed as one of the greatest remakes ever, as well as one of the best science-fiction horror films of all time. When strange seeds drift to earth from space, mysterious pods begin to grow and invade San Francisco, California, where they replicate the residents into emotionless automatons one body at a time. Jack Finney's Invasion of the Body Snatchers is a story told on rinse and repeat with varying results. Philip Kaufman's 1978 effort stands out as a crowd favorite (no disrespect to Don Siegel's 1956 memorable take). Donald Sutherland stars as a local Health Inspector who begins to witness strange occurrences and manages to stay one step ahead of the invasion until the end. So sit back and enjoy of our review of the horror classic Invasion of the Body Snatchers! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/grimandbloody/support
In this episode, Dmitry and Mallory discuss the "Body Snatcher" movies. We take a look at the four films that are based off of Jack Finney's 1954 sci-fi novel, Body Snatchers. Each film centers around the concept of people being replicated into emotional automatons. Whether it be by strange seeds drifting to earth from space, mysterious pods, or a virus, each plot follows a community of people that have been infected and are now slowly having their identities fade away. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thathorrorshow/support

In this episode we discuss: The Body Snatchers, Jack Finney's original 1956 novel Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956), directed by Don Siegel, written by Daniel Mainwaring, and starring Kevin McCarthy, Dana Wynter, and Larry Gates Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978), directed by Philip Kaufman, written by W.D. Richter, and starring Donald Sutherland, Brooke Adams, Leonard Nimoy, Jeff Goldblum, and Veronica Cartwright Body Snatchers (1993), directed by Abel Ferrara, written by Stuart Gordon, Dennis Paoli, and Nicholas St. John, and starring Gabrielle Anwar, Meg Tilly, R. Book Vs. Movie: Invasion of the Body The 1955 Novel by Jack Finney Vs the 1956 Classic Film Our “Spooky Movies in October” continues with Invasion of the Body Snatchers, a novel by Jack Finney, and the movie starring Kevin McCarthy (who also made a cameo in the 1978 remake!) The story of aliens invading earth and creating “pod people” to take over the human race was (probably) an allegory for the House Unamerican Activities that was looking for Communists in the U.S. during the 1930s-1950s. The author would go on to even greater success with his novel Time and Again in 1970 which dealt with time travel. The 1956 movie was directed by Don Siegel (Escape from Alcatraz, Dirty Harry) and produced by Walter Wanger who was starting his career over after a 1951 scandal when he shot his wife's (Joan Bennett) agent and lover. (Check out Karina Longworth's podcast Love is a Crime to learn more!) The film made a few changes to the source material and was made with mostly a group of unknown and character actors to become a huge hit. The story here takes place in fictional Santa Mira in the mid-1950s (unlike 1970s Mill Valley, CA in the novel.) Our lead, played by McCarthy, is a psychiatrist and not a physician and in the end--well, you need to listen to our show to find out! In 1994, the film was selected for preservation by the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress. There have been several remakes and similar stories told over the years but the 1956 version remains a classic. So, between the novel and the movie--which did we prefer? In this ep the Margos discuss: The biography of Jack Finney The political atmosphere in the 1950s about space & science The main differences between the novel & film. The Rocky Horror Picture Show - Musical - (1975)The Colour Out Of Space - AdaptacionesDie, Monster, Die! (1965)The Curse (1987)The Colour From Out Space (2019)The Thing (1982)Rats: Night of Terror (1982) - Miedo a que haya seres que creemos inútiles, que por cuestiones del destino, resultan super inteligentes. The Tommyknockers (1993)Independence Day (1996)Mars Attacks! This week we're getting paranoid, taking a mud bath, and crossing a dog with a banjo player, all while discussing the 1978 classic remake ‘Invasion of the Bodysnatchers'. Invasion of the Body Snatchers is a 1978 American science-fiction horror film directed by Philip Kaufman and starring Donald Sutherland, Brooke Adams, Veronica Cartwright, Jeff Goldblum, and Leonard Nimoy. Released on December 22, 1978, it is a remake of the 1956 film of the same name, which is based on the 1955 novel The Body Snatchers by Jack Finney. The plot involves a San Francisco health inspector and his colleague who over the course of a few days discover that humans are being replaced by alien duplicates; each is a perfect copy of the person replaced, but devoid of human emotion. The black-and-white film, shot in Superscope, was partially done in a film noir style. Daniel Mainwaring adapted the screenplay from Jack Finney's 1954 science-fiction novel The Body Snatchers. Hess brings a heavy-hitter from American classic sci-fi this week, those eerie and illusive outer-space pod-people. The chillest communal colonialists out of Norcal are on the prowl, so hide your kids, hide your wife, they snatchin' everybody up in here. Gavin & Hess intro this super thicc topic by delving into the original 1954 novel by Jack Finney, its themes and significance, and compare and contrast it with the 1956 film directed by George Siegel starring Kevin McCarthy. There's also too much discussion of the film "Innerspace", and probably the best Jeffrey Dean Morgan you're going to get this side of Syracuse. https://linktr.ee/oopsallmonsters
Details, credits, errata: Welcome back! We took a break and now are thrilled to return to you with a new episode about Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Philip Kaufman’s 1978 remake, and guest Jeff VanderMeer, short-story writer and novelist whose masterly book Annihilation got made into a terrific movie by Alex Garland and whose books Hummingbird Salamander and A Peculiar Peril are both very well-reviewed (and good!) and available at Midtown Reader signed and inscribed, should you so choose, by the author himself. This movie has been made a few times! The original was made in 1956 by Don Siegel, two years after Jack Finney’s novel of the same name was published (our image on the website is a detail from the cover to the 1967 Dell edition). Finney revised the novel the year the Kaufman movie came out, and the story was officially adapted again in 1993, as Abel Ferrara’s Body Snatchers, and in 2007 as The Invasion. It’s also the basis for a fun and trashy Robert Rodriguez 1990’s high school flick called The Faculty. Our theme song is Louis Armstrong and His Hot 5’s Muskrat Ramble, made freely available by the Boston Public Library and audio engineering shop George Blood, LP through the Internet Archive. Invasion of the Body Snatchers is copyright 1978 United Artists. Brief audio excerpts are used herein for purposes of review.
