Friday Focus provides listeners with a focused, half-hour masterclass on the big issues, events and trends driving the news and current events. The show features Janice Gross Stein, the founding director of the Munk School of Global Affairs and bestselling author, in conversation with Rudyard Griffiths, Chair and moderator of the Munk Debates. Rudyard and Janice preview our upcoming 2025 autumn mainstage Munk Debate on the Two-State Solution taking place on December 3rd in Toronto. What can we expect from the team of Ehud Olmert and Tzipi Livni, who believe Israel's future depends on pursuing two states for two peoples? Can the team of Ayelet Shaked and Micheal Oren make a compelling case that it is in Israel's best interest not to pursue this path? Rudyard explains how and why we landed on this debate and these speakers. In the second half of the show Rudyard and Janice turn to Chinese-American relations following Trump's trade meeting this week with Xi Jinping. The US backed down on a range of tariff threats and most importantly on high tech exports to China. Why did Trump agree to this? There is a codependency between these two superpowers that will only break when either China is able to manufacture advanced AI chips or the US breaks China's monopoly on critical rare earth minerals. Does Trump have the patience and resolve to stay the course? And how should Canada pursue its own trade relationship with China in order to protect our interests and specifically the struggling auto sector? Should Donald Trump win the Nobel Peace Prize? Andrew thinks we should wait to see how this ceasefire unfolds before heaping praise on the US President. The current cessation of hostilities has more to do with Netanyahu and Israel's extremely aggressive war policy that has redrawn the map in the Middle East. Does Trump's brand of diplomacy work better in that part of the world? Or did Trump have the benefit of coming after Biden and two years of fighting that exhausted both sides? And finally has the media been fair in their overall coverage of Trump since he started his second term? In the second half of the show Rudyard and Andrew turn to ongoing trade negotiations between the US and Canada, and specifically Trump's hostility towards our auto industry. Is it time to let the sector go instead of pouring millions of dollars of subsidies into propping it up? Do we put tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles to protect our industry? And why aren't we supporting industries that are not subsidized and excelling on their own in the new economy? Rudyard and Andrew agree that trade has now become intermingled with climate change and security issues, and we need to take those factors into account as we negotiate new agreements for Canada. Chuck Todd breaks down the political fallout as the government shutdown begins disrupting air travel—and both parties claim they're “winning.” He argues that when politicians are upending people's lives, no one is really winning. The conversation turns to Israel, where Prime Minister Netanyahu faces deepening domestic backlash and a loss of international allies. With 66% of Israelis wanting the war in Gaza to end and growing calls for Bibi's ouster, Israel's reliance on the U.S. has never been greater—or more politically divisive.Chuck also examines how the Israel issue is surfacing in U.S. campaign politics, from Democratic primaries to GOP power plays. With Republicans clearing primary fields and Democrats facing scandals like Jay Jones' in Virginia, both parties are wrestling with internal fractures—and the risks of clinging to power at any cost. Then, Chuck sits down with Stanford political scientist Adam Bonica to unpack the dark underbelly of political fundraising. Bonica reveals how the Democratic consulting firm Mothership Strategies helped shape modern campaign fundraising — and how their tactics, often resembling internet scams, have extracted hundreds of millions from small-dollar donors, many of whom are elderly or unaware they've been opted into recurring donations. Together, they explore how much of that money never reaches campaigns at all, instead being funneled into consultant fees and internal operations that border on money laundering. The conversation broadens into the systemic corruption of campaign finance: both parties' use of apocalyptic fear-mongering, the rise of Super PACs with minimal voter impact, and how America's extreme wealth inequality has distorted democratic accountability. Bonica explains why the public now views the very need to raise money as inherently corrupt — and how anti-corruption could be the strongest defense against authoritarian drift. As billions pour into elections with diminishing effect, Chuck and Adam question whether the next era of U.S. politics can ever be disentangled from the cash that drives it.Finally, Chuck gives his ToddCast Top 5 governor's seats most likely to flip parties, and answers listeners' questions in the “Ask Chuck” segment.Got injured in an accident? Today, Martha, Les, Jamil, and Jess break down the new Gaza peace plan unveiled by President Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu at the White House. The proposal, reportedly a 20-point framework, calls for an Arab peacekeeping force led by Jordan and Egypt, a governing council that includes the Palestinian Authority but excludes Hamas, and the release of all hostages. Trump has put himself at the center of the effort, touting a role as Chairman of the Board of Peace, while Arab states like Qatar and Turkey have signaled openness to the plan.Is this really a breakthrough or just a reshuffling of familiar proposals? Does Trump's personal stake give the plan greater chances of success—or just raise the political risks if it fails? And with Arab leaders weighing their options after recent Israeli strikes, is this a moment for serious movement, or simply another round of the same stalemate?Check out these sources which informed our experts' opinions: https://apnews.com/article/trump-netanyahu-israel-hamas-war-gaza-708a08671b8842d7a7a5e250ec51351c @lestermunson@marthamillerdc@NotTVJessJones@jamil_n_jafferLike what we're doing here? In this episode, Jeffrey Tucker unpacks President Donald Trump's growing dispute with the Federal Reserve and his efforts to remove Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook for alleged mortgage fraud.“There's a lot more at stake than just this one regulation about residences and mortgages. It has to do with whether and to what extent the Fed is actually accountable to the President of the United States,” says Tucker. He's the founder and president of the Brownstone Institute and senior economics columnist for The Epoch Times. How did the creation of the Federal Reserve fundamentally change America? Does Trump have the authority to fire a Federal Reserve Governor? And what does it really mean to be an independent federal agency?“What's striking to me about this is that the Fed has been around since 1913. This question has never really been asked at this level—much less answered—for all these years in this country,” Tucker says.Views expressed in this video are opinions of the host and the guest, and do not necessarily reflect the views of The Epoch Times.

Today, Jess, Les, and Bishop unpack South Korean President Lee's first visit to Washington and his meeting with President Trump. The two leaders struck a warm rapport, with Trump raising ideas about engagement with North Korea and Lee casting Trump as potential peacemaker on the peninsula. But as Seoul works to balance relations with both Washington and Beijing, Trump's out-of-the-box, business-style approach may add unpredictability to one of the world's most sensitive regions. Will Trump's style strengthen—or strain—the U.S.–South Korea alliance? President Trump has threatened to sign an Executive Order that would end mail-in voting in America. His comments last week come at a time when the President is suggesting multiple ways to help Republicans hold onto Congress in the 2026 midterms. Nearly a third of national ballots came through the mail in the 2024 election. And the Washington State legislature required vote-by-mail starting in 2011. Secretary of State Steve Hobbs talks to us about what President Trump can do and defends Washington State voting security. Unity Without Compromise with Dr. Steven LaTulippe – Trump's words are particularly concerning for a number of reasons. He is no coward; he has proven that beyond any doubt. America is now on a watchlist for the the health of civil society for “sustained attacks on civic freedoms.” We have to turn this around. Did Trump just confess to his Epstein role? Is he treating "the financially-lubricated sex trafficking of women as mere [employment]?" How does a 16 yr old come to work at a spa at Mar-a-Lago? Will Trump pardon Diddy? Does Trump have a special place in his heart for the trafficking and abuse of young women and girls? Democrats did something important for democracy and the mainstream media ignored it. Or are the Dems not fighting loud enough with their message? Are we now living in the age of "Trump traveling terrorism?" If you don't agree with Trump - it's scary to travel.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Benjamin Netanyahu has done it before: making positive noises about a Gaza truce before boarding a plane to America, only for it all to unravel after he lands. For the Israeli prime minister's third visit to the White House since Inauguration Day, the noises are more positive than they've been in a while, but hard evidence of progress is thin and these meetings with Donald Trump always feel loosely scripted; perhaps even improvised. The last time Netanyahu visited the Oval Office, he was ambushed by his host who gushed about Turkey's leader and announced direct talks with Iran. What about this time, after that 12-day war that roped in US fighter planes? We ask about an eventual deal. And how to feed Palestinian civilians forced to risk their lives each time they approach one of those US and Israeli-backed aid distribution centres, the ones that bypass international aid agencies? Could Sunday's announcement that Israel's war cabinet approved aid for northern Gaza Strip signal call time on that concept? Read more'Blood for food': The US soldier-spies sidelining UN aid work in Gaza And then there's the rebuilding of a territory that's been flattened. Does Trump still cling to his Gaza Riviera real estate development plan? Does Israel want to occupy Gaza? The US wants normalisation between Israel and the likes of Syria and Saudi Arabia. How badly? And where do Palestinians figure in all the grand bargaining? Produced by François Picard, Rebecca Gnignati, Juliette Laffont, Ilayda Habip, Alessandro Xenos.
Ahead of last year's US Presidential elections, Donald Trump was asked if he would defend China against Taiwan, he responded that Taiwan should pay the US for protection from China. Taiwan is a self-governing island, claimed by Beijing and whilst Taiwan is not formally recognised by the US, they do remain the island's most important security partner. Taiwan manufactures over ninety percent of the world's most advanced semiconductor chips, which makes some American industries heavily dependent on trade links with the island. But official US policy towards Taiwan is one of ‘strategic ambiguity'. So when the US Secretary of Defence, Pete Hegseth recently warned of China posing an ‘imminent' threat to Taiwan, whilst at the same time urging Asian countries to boost defence spending and work with the US to deter war, it raised the issue of how far America would be prepared to go to defend Taiwan. China in response accused the US of being the ‘biggest troublemaker' for regional peace. The US has only just agreed a truce on trade tariffs with China and President Trump's immediate attention has shifted onto issues in the Middle East, so if Pete Hegseth's warning is valid, how far up the list is Taiwan in terms of Trump's foreign policy priorities. This week on the Inquiry we're asking ‘Does Trump care about Taiwan?' One story continues to dominate the conversation in Washington: the possibility of a U.S. strike in Iran. But even as the commentariat focuses on its potential geopolitical implications, its potential implications for American politics are no less real. President Donald Trump's MAGA base is split over what to do. Does Trump risk hemorrhaging support if he orders a strike? Or is the whole idea of a GOP civil war over Iran overhyped? Playbook contributing author Adam Wren joins editor Zack Stanton to talk through his reporting and discuss what it all means for the conflict at hand and the future of MAGA.

It's difficult to achieve, but Stigall thinks Jim Comes - former director of the FBI might just be the single greatest liar in American politics today. Just wait until you hear his victimhood testimony of the infamous "8647" shell picture on social media last week. Meanwhile, Stigall continues to assert the Biden cancer diagnosis isn't remotely transparent. It's not about being cruel regarding an ailing man, it's about the coverup from the American people and it needs to be discussed. Plus, will the IRS get the new director Trump wants in Billy Long? Chuck Flint of the Alliance for IRS Accountability discusses it and reforms that could be coming with him. President Trump heads to Capitol Hill to urge House Republicans to pass that big, beautiful bill. Deputy Press Secretary Harrison Fields reacts to that, and everything from Biden's cancer to the charges filed against a New Jersey Congresswoman for assaulting an ICE officer.
