In 2012, 19-year-old Stevie Bates vanished after calling her mother from a Greyhound bus during a layover in Pittsburgh; she made it back to New York but never made it home. Eight years later, her skeletal remains were discovered wrapped in a blanket at an abandoned house in Queens, the same property where her boyfriend had reportedly been squatting. In this episode of Zone 7, Sheryl McCollum welcomes Stevie’s cousin, Isis Jannierre, to discuss who Stevie was, what her family believed from the beginning, and why the case still raises questions about the timeline, suspect behavior, lost investigative time, lost evidence, and the people who may still know what happened. Highlights: (0:00) Sheryl McCollum opens Zone 7 with Stevie Bates’ 2012 disappearance, her final call home, and the Port Authority sighting that confirmed she made it back to New York (1:15) Isis Jannierre joins Zone 7 to establish Stevie’s victimology through the eyes of her family (2:30) Who Stevie was: a gifted student, creative thinker, devoted daughter, and young woman with aspirations (5:15) Hunter College, Occupy Wall Street, and the independent life Stevie was building before she vanished (6:45) Eight years later, Stevie’s skeletal remains are found wrapped in a blanket at an abandoned property in Glendale, Queens (7:30) Why Stevie’s family never believed she intentionally disappeared (11:45) Decomposition, lost evidence, and the unresolved questions of how Stevie died (12:30) Isis pushes back on the drug-use theory and explains Stevie’s role in Brandon Klosterman’s life (15:30) Stevie’s plan to collect her belongings, the end of the relationship, and the family’s working theory (16:45) Deleted messages, squatting, and behavior that raised questions around Brandon Klosterman (25:00) The location of Stevie’s remains raises new questions about missing crime scenes, lost witnesses, and who may still know the truth (28:30) Sheryl presses for the answers Stevie’s family deserves: a clearer timeline, a confirmed alibi, and an explanation for the deleted messages Enjoying Zone 7? You've maybe heard that during an accident, time slows. Truth is, it's an illusion. Your brain flips into high-alert, and processes visual information in way higher detail, which makes the experience feel longer. Of all the episodes and stories we've shared on this show before, this is the one story you would absolutely not want to appreciate in high-detail slow-mo.On today's episode: you'll find out how cholera and typhoid-laced fart water led to the reinvention of one of the world's cleverest and most innovative cities; you will find out why crapping on music could technically be considered a kind of self-care; and although you're missing the context now, I'm going to advise you to potentially remove your fingernails at some point, and you might surprise yourself by agreeingAnd if you were listening on Patreon… you would hear the beloved tale of a potentially made-up cow that got the jimmy legs and vaporized a city; you would visit the most literally and purposefully vomit-inducing statue ever erected; and you would learn the fascinating history of transportation-based toilets. Today's episode was supposed to be another minisode, but in the new-standing tradition, so much for that. It was also supposed to be bloodless, which it was, but it still managed to be incredibly disturbing and upsetting without it. I make that point that if we had dropped 800 lbs of blood on people, you would have been easier to get over. You ever hear of the 2008 case of a man experiencing severe untreated psychosis, attacked and decapitating his seat mate on a Greyhound Bus with a hunting knife in Manitoba, Canada? I believe the Dave Matthews Poop Bus Disaster of 2004 is far worse. I would want the members and families of the Dave Matthews band know I mean all this in good fun. Much better fun than the 120 people who ate 800 lbs of fudge from the sky on that August day. Again, good fun. I finish the episode with a few shoutouts. I also want to thank Hydra Corvi and Kerry-Ann Borthwick for helping me behind the scenes with a little inspiration. And as far as shout-outs go. On the next episode, I will be announcing the results of our Gorilla Naming Contest, and the explanation should be heart warming as hell. I would have had this all in the can sooner, but my personal life spirals around me and I've been struggling for a bit. Tourniquets, same story - lost to time but not forgotten. They're in the mail, this week, promise. Special guests include: E. coli, Salmonella, Norovirus, Hepatitis, Giardia, and Cryptosporidium. ––––– THANK YOU. Most shows survive at the whim of production companies and corporate sponsors, built from the top down. Doomsday doesn't exist because some network exec believes in it – it exists because actual people do. It's built from the bottom up, and it's been my privilege to bring you these stories. Just you, me, and a microphone.  I don't do this for you, so much as I do this because of you. How I Prove My Mother Wrong Juju Can't Hold One's Destiny, Take Life – KAA https://osazuwaakonedo.news/how-i-prove-my-mother-wrong-juju-cant-hold-ones-destiny-take-life-kaa/ #Akujiobi #Anambra #AwoOmamma #Canada #Chimaobi #KAA #Umuezeali #Imo #Ohio #UK #USA It may not be wrong to say one of the major root causes of crimes, poverty, poor healthcare, suicides, killings and avoidable deaths today in the world is superstitious beliefs mixed with severe psychological manipulation, religious and spiritual delusions that often lead to family members abandoning their loved ones; especially their parents for fear of being bewitched, doomed or suffered from the delusional curse or spell superstitiously believed had been placed on their parents or loved ones, and this act, do also lead to the accused family members committing suicides or being banished, beaten, or even killed by jungle justice, and inline with the numerous cases documented globally and locally, we have seen where individuals have committed murder or caused death due to acute spiritual delusions, which in psychiatry, these are often diagnosed as cases of religious psychosis, schizophrenia, or clinical lycanthropy, where the perpetrator cannot separate objective reality from spiritual hallucinations, this may interest you to know that in August 2025, at Atwood Lake in Ohio, United States Of America, USA, an Amish mother obviously suffering from a severe spiritual delusion, drowned her 4-year-old son in Atwood Lake, investigators revealed that both she and her husband believed God was speaking directly to them, demanding ritualistic tasks to prove their worthiness, and as such, she explicitly told the police that the Lord wanted her to perform the sacrifice, this may not also be different from the case of a 22-year-old Nigerian and an engineering student named Benjamin Obenim, whose life seems to heavily revolved around his church, who suffered a sudden psychiatric break in 2025 after his family initially mistook his erratic behavior for a standard demonic attack rather than a medical issue, allegedly driven by the delusion that his mother and sister were witches spiritually plotting to destroy him, he, as a result of that, attacked his family, resulting in the death of his mother but he was later diagnosed with schizophrenia under clinical custody, it maybe recalled that one of the most famous historical cases of spiritual psychosis in the United Kingdom, UK, was the murder of Robert Dadd in 1843 by his son, the English artist, Richard Dadd stabbed his father to death on account of a delusion that his father was actually the devil in human form, and that he had been chosen by God to battle the forces of evil, this act, made him to spend the remainder of his life in psychiatric facilities, and in 2008, a passenger inside a Greyhound Bus in Canada, Vince Li killed a stranger, Tim McLean, Li claimed that the voice of God told him McLean was an alien or a demon, and that if he did not kill him immediately, the man would come back to life and kill everyone else on the bus, and one of the most recent cases of crimes caused by superstitious beliefs occurred on Friday, 9 May 2026 at Umuezeali area of Awo-omamma community in Oru East local government area of Imo State when Micheal Akujiobi killed his uncle and two other elderly people on the ground that they were the evil forces behind his misfortunes and problems in the family, the suspected murderer who said he returned from Lagos state to his country home in 2018 to wage war against spiritual forces so that his father's name wouldn't go astray, confessed to killing three people, identifying the first victim as his father's senior brother and his uncle, Joseph Akujiobi, the other victims were  another man and a woman, during his interrogation, the suspected murderer said when he was in primary school, he could read and write very well, but, along the line, he was no longer brilliant and thus he believed his uncle was the evil forces behind his academic misfortunes and other setbacks in life, accordingly, the suspect said he came back to kill evil people who do not want the younger ones to grow and succeed in life, adding, he was acting under the instruction of the spirit of God to eliminate evil people in the community, the suspect who admitted of previously selling indian hemp in the community, seems to be unremorseful despite the gravity of his actions, insisting he had won the battle, and he knows the consequences of his action according to the law maybe death penalty or condemned to life imprisonment, Michael Akujiobi did not allege any specific personal wrongdoing, financial dispute, or physical abuse committed by his uncle against him, instead, he framed the attack entirely around generalized  among  #OsazuwaAkonedoBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/osazuwaakonedo--4980924/support.Kindly support us for more productivity and efficiency in news delivery.Visit our donation page: DonateYou can also use our Mobile app for more news in different formats: CLICK TO DOWNDLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY STORE

When the Great Migration began in the early 20th century, there were very few fully established intercity bus lines. In 1930, through the consolidation of more than 100 different bus lines, the Greyhound Corporation began offering a different kind of experience for millions of passengers every year, many of whom were leaving the South to establish new lives in northern cities, such as Cleveland, Detroit, and Chicago, and cities in the West.rnrnThe work of historian Robert Edwards focuses on the architecture of the Great Migration--the spaces, built environments, and vehicles essential to the experience of the journey north and west. In recent years, Edwards acquired and is restoring a vintage 1947 Greyhound Bus, destined to become an interactive museum experience.rnrnAs we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the nation's founding, we welcome Edwards to the City Club to offer his unique and compelling perspective on this integral part of our shared history and the journey that shaped our community.

On a Greyhound bus traveling through the open stretch of Manitoba in July 2008, 22-year-old Tim McLean sat quietly listening to music, unaware that the man who had just boarded would become his killer. Without warning, fellow passenger Vince Li pulled out a large knife and, in front of horrified passengers, stabbed Tim repeatedly in the neck before decapitating him and holding up his severed head for all to see. As passengers fled in terror and police surrounded the bus, Li remained inside, mutilating the body and consuming parts of it. The attack was as brutal as it was senseless—and what came next ignited nationwide outrage: Vince Li was found not criminally responsible due to mental illness and later granted absolute freedom. The fallout would challenge Canada's legal system, public safety policies, and the very definition of justice. Für unser Sommerspezial 2024 sind wir für Euch tief ins Archiv gestiegen und haben die besten Folgen der letzten Zeit zu einem Kessel Buntes gerührt. Oldies but Goldies.

This week, Drewby and Yergy pay a visit to our neighbors to the north to discuss the case of Timothy McLean, a young man who enjoyed a nomadic lifestyle as a carnival worker. While aboard Greyhound Bus 1170, Timothy was attacked and killed by Vince Li, an undiagnosed and untreated schizophrenic. But what Vince did to Timothy's body in the aftermath of the attack caused onlookers, first responders, and Timothy's family unmeasurable trauma... and caused one RCMP officer to later take his own life.  Support Our Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/themiserymachine PayPal: https://www.paypal.me/themiserymachine Join Our Facebook Group: https://t.co/DeSZIIMgXs?amp=1 Instagram: miserymachinepodcast Twitter: misery_podcast Discord: https://discord.gg/kCCzjZM #themiserymachine #podcast #truecrime Source Material: https://youtu.be/_4roKWPtQoc?feature=shared  https://youtu.be/WM3k8guPExs?feature=shared  https://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.5671913  https://www.winnipegfreepress.com/local/2009/03/05/tormented_by_mental_illness https://winnipeg.ctvnews.ca/mobile/mclean-family-launches-lawsuit-1.321170 https://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.4760074  https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/greyhound-beheading-10th-anniversary-1.4760074  https://www.ctvnews.ca/mobile/family-friends-remember-beheading-victim-at-vigil-1.313427  https://winnipeg.ctvnews.ca/mobile/trial-verdict-grossly-inadequate-mom-1.376018?referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.co.uk%2F  https://globalnews.ca/news/72876/i-need-to-honour-my-son-mom-of-beheaded-man/  https://winnipegsun.com/2016/01/13/agony-continues-for-tim-mcleans-family  https://m.facebook.com/groups/22639421199/permalink/10156562920266200/  https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/28699038/timothy_richard-mclean  https://uniter.ca/blog/entry/208  https://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.703285  https://winnipeg.ctvnews.ca/mobile/hearing-for-vince-li-postponed-one-month-1.322890?cache=%3Ca+href%3D%3FclipId%3D86116 https://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.757680  https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/28699038/timothy_richard-mclean  https://www.ctvnews.ca/mobile/quiet-funeral-for-young-man-killed-on-bus-1.314731  https://www.timslaw.ca/2014/07/14/coming-into-force-of-the-not-criminally-responsible-reform-act/  https://www.cbc.ca/lite/story/1.2502104  https://winnipeg.ctvnews.ca/mobile/tim-mclean-s-mother-shutting-down-foundation-1.1646252  https://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.3977278  http://www.timslaw.ca/2009/05/19/petition/  https://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.4760074  https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/vince-li-s-upcoming-move-to-group-home-sparks-winnipeg-protest-1.3068059  https://edmonton.ctvnews.ca/mobile/hated-church-group-to-protest-tim-mclean-funeral-1.314323?referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.co.uk%2F  https://winnipeg.ctvnews.ca/mobile/tim-mclean-s-mom-shares-victim-impact-statement-1.377944  https://www.glasgowtimes.co.uk/news/12795448.bus-cannibal-man-insane-judge-told/  https://globalnews.ca/news/1855998/timeline-of-decisions-in-the-case-of-vince-li/  https://winnipeg.ctvnews.ca/mobile/vince-li-speaks-for-the-first-time-1.830470  https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=BqKMU9iOeJI&pp=QAFIAQ%3D%3D  https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/wbna29494385  https://www.cbsnews.com/news/greyhound-cannibal-interviewer-vince-li-thought-he-was-attacking-alien-in-beheading-of-tim-mclean/  https://news.abplive.com/crime/most-shocking-crimes-vince-li-canada-who-beheaded-a-man-because-he-heard-voice-of-god-1652157/amp  https://www.vice.com/en/article/nnqzm8/the-man-who-decapitated-his-seatmate-on-a-greyhound-bus-in-winnipeg-is-getting-out  https://www.ranker.com/list/facts-about-tim-mclean-greyhound/jen-jeffers#  https://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.3979368  https://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.757680  https://m.facebook.com/groups/22639421199/permalink/10156562920266200/  https://www.theglobeandmail.com/amp/news/national/how-a-madmans-blade-cut-tim-mcleans-reunion-short/article1058285/  https://www.legacy.com/obituaries/name/tim-mclean-obituary?pid=114723599  https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=mWQLNs7FKJI&embeds_referring_euri=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.reddit.com%2F&feature=emb_title  https://www.winnipegfreepress.com/featured/2012/05/19/for-tims-mother-the-issue-is-safety  https://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.4760074  https://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.5671913  https://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.3984141  https://passages.winnipegfreepress.com/passage-details/id-138970/Mclean_Timothy  https://www.timslaw.ca/2009/03/04/79/  https://winnipeg.ctvnews.ca/mobile/he-shone-very-bright-in-our-family-1.313466?cache=%2F7.396071%3FautoPlay%3Dtrue  https://encyclopediadramatica.online/Tim_McLean https://www.facebook.com/groups/22639421199/ https://www.facebook.com/colleen.yestrau https://www.facebook.com/carol.dedelley https://www.facebook.com/kendall.dedelley

When the odds seemed stacked against him, John Rock Wehner emerged from Carrick with little more than a Greyhound Bus pass and the support of his grandmother, stepping into the limelight of professional baseball with stories that resonate with the heart of Americana. His voyage is a testament to the power of perseverance, and we're thrilled to share his candid recollections with you. From the culture shock of an empty college dormitory to the pressures of a major league debut, John peels back the curtain on the transformative moments that define a ballplayer's journey.Navigating potholed fields and overhanging fences, the city athlete's ingenuity takes center stage as Rock reminisces about the rough charm of urban baseball. His tales of homemade field maintenance and unconventional gameplay underscore the resilience and mental toughness needed beyond natural talent. In this episode, we get an intimate view of how pivotal a player's intelligence and adaptability are when facing adversity, and why these attributes often carry more weight than the stats on a player card. Finally, we celebrate the strategic ballet of baseball with a nod to its unsung heroes—the mentors who guide players like John through the nuances of the game. We reflect on the evolution of coaching, the nuances of outsmarting defensive shifts, and the significance of tactical decision-making. It's a journey through 13 professional seasons, culminating in a profound love for the game that shines in every anecdote, from the thrill of rookie excitement to the pride of a major league at-bat. The Hayseed Scholar Podcast

Dr. Oumar Ba of Cornell University visits the Hayseed Scholar podcast. Dr. Ba grew up in Senegal, attending his first school at an early age near the Senegal-Mauritania border. He developed an interest in politics in high school and at his first university (Cheik Anna Diop in Dakar) where he pursued Geography. Oumar moved to the United States in early 2001, taking a Greyhound Bus from New York to Ohio. Following a series of jobs, including one at an auto manufacturing plant, he would return to academia pursuing a Master's in International Affairs and Political Science at Ohio University. It was there he worked on his thesis, exploring topics in International Law under the guidance of Professor Andrew Ross. He then went to Gainesville to pursue his PhD, and where he met friend of the pod Professor Aida Hozic. Dr. Ba reflects on his time at Morehouse College, an HBCU where he worked in his first tenure track job, and the interview (during the pandemic) and then recent move to Cornell. He reflects upon his experience of his book being the subject of the 2019 ISA-Northeast circle, discusses his approach to writing ('chaos'), and what he does to recharge and unwind. Episode 115 Joan Webster25 year-old Joan Webster was a second year architecture student at Harvard University Graduate School of Design in 1981 and had a bright future ahead of her. But on November 28th of that year, Joan vanished. She had just arrived at Logan Airport in Boston after flying home from NJ to see her family for the Thanksgiving holiday. As a cab driver helped began to load her suitcase into his taxi, an unkown man stopped Joan and told her that they shouldn't take that taxi. Joan told the cabbie that she was with the man, and picked up the suitcase and walked away with the man to a nearby car parked in the taxi row. The bewildered cab driver dismissed the incident, and looked for his next fare. Joan Webster was never seen alive again. When her boyfriend, a fellow student at Harvard realized Joan hadn't come back to school following the holiday, he called her parents. That's when they realized Joan was missing, and reported her as such on December 2, 1981. That same day, Joan's red purse and her wallet - with about $100 in cash missing - were found, 14 miles north of Logan Airport. A man found them in a marsh - a known dumping ground for criminal elements - in Saugus, MA. Her tote bag, which she carried her credit cards and checkbooks in, as well as her suitcase were still missing. On January 29th, 1982 Joan's suitcase was found in a Greyhound Bus terminal. Extensive searches of the areas around the airport turned up no signs of Joan herself. Over the years, Joan's parents where called multiple times by people demanding money for information they supposedly had about Joan. One caller urged the authorities to look into another murder and named a suspect in the murder, but it failed to lead to Joan. Finally, in 1990, almost a decade after she vanished, Joan's remains were found along a creek area off Chabacco rd in Hamilton, Massachusetts, almost 30 miles north of Logan Airport where Joan was last seen. She was found nude; the victim of a homicide with evidence of head trauma. Due to the passage of time, and exposure to the elements, not much was apparently found in the way of physical evidence, and the case remains unsolved. The best clue in the case is the mystery man seen by the cab driver with Joan at Logan Airport. He never came forward, and was not identified. If you have information about Joan's case, please call the Hamilton, MA police at 978-468-1212Joan's sister-in-law Eve Carson, who has written 2 books on Joan's case joins me in this episode to discuss the mystery of what happened to Joan.
