The Special Investigative Unit conducted a search and seizure operation at the Desmond Tutu Refugee Centre in Marabastad in Pretoria YESTERDAY (FRIDAY). This after a whistleblower tipped off the Department of Home Affairs to unlawful activities occurring at the centre where officials are allegedly being bribed to issue fraudulent documents to unregistered foreign nationals. The department in partnership with the Special Investigative Unit and the Hawks acquired a search warrant to search the premises of five refugee centres including those in Cape Town, Durban, Musina, Port Elizabeth and Durban. electronic devices, like cellphones and laptops  were confiscated by authorities for further investigation. Lawyers  for Human Rights have welcomed this operation and for further reaction udo Carelse spoke to   the National Director, Wayne Ncube

Limpopo department of Health on alert following the detection of two cholera cases

Two cholera cases have been detected in Musina and Senwabarwana in Limpopo. The Provincial Health Department  says the positive cases were detected at the Musina and Helena Franz hospitals. The patients who are  from Zimbabwe, had been admitted at the two hospitals upon their return from the festive season holidays. Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to National health department spokesperson, Foster Mohale.

With the festive season drawing to a close, travelers have begun returning home after a well earned break. Around 200 travelers were intercepted at the Beitbridge Border Post, outside Musina in Limpopo after they were caught trying to enter the South Africa illegally. Border Management Agency (BMA) Commissioner, Dr Michael Masiapato is at the border post monitoring the movement of holiday makers returning from Zimbabwe. Vutivi Maluleke reports.

The Limpopo Provincial Police have intercepted minibus taxis carrying over 100 undocumented foreign nationals from Zimbabwe heading to Polokwane. The vehicles were found to be overloaded with 73 underage children, women, and males. Last week, the Border Management Authority, announced that it had intercepted 42 buses carrying unaccompanied children from Zimbabwe at the Beitbridge border post in Musina. An estimated 15,000 migrants and refugees from Zimbabwe and other countries cross daily through the official border post or at illegal crossing points. Limpopo Police and the SANDF have heightened their visibility in and around the Beitbridge Border Post. There's been a spike in robberies and attacks at the Musina crossing recently. A truck driver was airlifted to the Pietersburg Provincial Hospital in Polokwane last week. He was robbed while queuing at the port of entry.

Over ten people are confirmed to have died at the Beitbridge border in Musina, Limpopo starting December 14th. Hundreds truck drivers spent their Christmas on the densely congested N1 road outside the port of entry. Most of them have been stuck on queues that stretch as far back as ten kilometres for several days. Traffic flow into the port of entry has however eased for light motor vehicles. Queues of vehicles at the congested Beitbridge border post into Zimbabwe now stretch to the town of Musina about 14 kilometres from the border post. Chairperson of the Beitbridge Transport and Clearing Agency Association, Eugene Khoza, attributes the congestion to the curfew to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus as many travellers arrive at the border at almost the same time. The Zimbabwean side of the border closes at 18h00 due to the curfew forcing travellers to spent hours waiting. They often sleep in their vehicles waiting for the border to open. There is traffic disruption and congestion at the Beitbridge border and outside on the N1 in Musina, Limpopo, as travellers head to various destinations for the festive season holidays. Traffic volumes started increasing on Sunday 20 and continued today. Traffic officials appear unable to control traffic as trucks and small vehicles heading north towards Zimbabwe occupy both lanes. Some motorists say they have been in the queue for several days. A woman has also been reported to have died after collapsing near the border. She had been travelling on a bus since Monday afternoon. Queues at the troubled border are reportedly up to 15km long. Also, smugglers in Zimbabwe, assisted by South Africans are using inflatable boats to carry people and contraband across the crocodile infested Limpopo River. It is reported that people are paying anything between R100 and R500 for a one-way trip. We spoke to our reporter Rudzani Tshivhase, Dumisani Muleya, the managing editor of The News Hawks, a new investigative journalism centre in Harare AND had reaction from Home Affairs Minister, Aaron Motsoaledi.

Home Affairs Minister, Aaron Motsoaledi says plans are in place to build a new "One Stop" Beitbridge border post between South Africa and Zimbabwe outside Musina in Limpopo. He says the border post will have dedicated lanes for trucks, busses, cars and pedestrians. Motsoaledi says the Zimbabwean government has started building on the other side, and South Africa is expected to start soon.

Home Affairs Minister Doctor Aaron Motsoaledi says the attacks on cargo trucks allegedly driven by foreign nationals in some parts of the country is economic sabotage and must stop. Speaking alongside his Zimbabwean counterpart Kazembe-Kazembe at the Beitbridge border post outside Musina in Limpopo, Motsoaledi says truck owners must also take responsibility. Hundreds of illegal immigrants entering the country through the Beitbridge border fence outside Musina, in Limpopo, have been turned back into Zimbabwe by the army and police. The joint operation at the border is aimed at minimising the influx of undocumented immigrants into the country. The Beitbridge border gate is also experiencing a stream of people travelling from South Africa to Zimbabwe and other African countries.

The director or port of entry at the Department of Home Affairs, Stephen van Neel says the number of people crossing the Beit bridge border has drastically increased, with more than twenty-two thousand people having crossed into Zimbabwe at the border post in Musina in Limpopo in the last twenty-four hours. The number of people crossing the Beit bridge border has drastically increased, for the Easter long weekend. More than twenty-two thousand people having crossed into Zimbabwe at the border post in Musina in Limpopo in the last twenty-four hours. Tsepiso Makwetla spoke to our reporter at the Beit Bridge Border, Michael Makungo, who says law enforcement, is monitoring various points of entry and to our other reporter Pimani Baloyi, who says there is heavy traffic congestion on the R71 between Polokwane and Mankweng, as thousands of ZCC congregants make their way to Moria.

Traffic is expected to be congested on the N1 road between Polokwane and Musina as thousands of holiday makers travel from various provinces to Limpopo and neighbouring countries for the Easter holidays. The transport department in Limpopo says it is ready to receive thousands of motorists in the province including a large numebr of ZCC members traveling to Moria for their annual Easter pilgrimage. Limpopo police yesterday intercepted four vehicles that were being smuggled across the Limpopo river outside Musina into Zimbabwe . Police say the vehicles were either hijacked or stolen from various parts of South Africa. Over the past 12 months criminals have attempted to smuggle over 100 vehicles across the Limpopo. Some residents of Musina in Llimpopo are accusing certain officials at the local municipality of being involved in allocating RDP houses improperly. The beneficiaries were allocated RDP houses on the municipal list, only to learn that other people who were not on the list have occupied their houses. Police confirm exploded device is a military device

Police have confirmed that the device that exploded and badly injured a 54-year-old woman at Gumbu village near the Madimbo military base outside Musina in Limpopo, is a military device. Matodzi Khorommbi is in a serious condition at the Mankweng hospital outside Polokwane. The device exploded while she was tilling the land at her homestead on Wednesday. Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo has called on community members not to touch any suspicious looking devices but rather report them to the local police. Rudzani Tshivhase reports....
