Il aime les Majors, surtout quand elle sont loin. John Ford, c’est l’Amérique, le symbole de la liberté, il est allé droit vers sa destinée. John Ford, c’est pour nous tous un ami.Au programme cette semaine:On parle exclusivement de John Ford, avec la sortie à l'automne dernier chez Sidonis de La Dernière Fanfare, superbe film politique, et la parution aux éditions Passages de Fantaisies de John Ford, ouvrage dirigé par les amis Frédéric Cavé et Damien Keller, sur un versant moins commenté de la filmographie du cinéaste, son humour et ses différents aspects.On est évidemment trop lacunaire en une petite heure (une saison ne suffirait pas pour venir à bout de son œuvre), mais le cinéma de Ford reste toujours un diamant de l'histoire du cinéma, qu'il convient de voir et revoir jusque la fin des temps. Été 93, « Panic sur Florida Beach » sort en salle. Malheureusement pour lui, c’est aussi à ce moment-là que le monde découvre Jurassic Park. Carton plein pour le second, et voilà le premier éclipsé par le mastodonte. C'est d'autant plus dommage que « Matinee », de son nom américain, a été réalisé par l’une des plus belles révélations de l’écurie Spielberg. Joe Dante fait partie de cette génération qui, très jeune, a vu naître sa cinéphilie à partir du grand fatras des glorieuses sixties, et son lot de films d’horreur mal-aimés et opportunistes. Vingt ans plus tard, il décide donc de leur rendre leurs lettres de noblesse. Dans le très autobiographique « Panic sur Florida Beach », le cinéaste, qui hésite sans cesse entre le film d’auteur et la franche rigolade, explore ses souvenirs d’enfance. Ceux qui, pétris de culture nerd, se sont heurtés à l’angoisse du réel alors que la crise des missiles, en 1962, laissait craindre l’avènement d’une Troisième Guerre mondiale.
