As popular as the Looney Tunes franchise is, it's hard to believe there's never been a theatrical film release of it that's solely animated (sorry but Space Jam, it's sequel, and Looney Tunes: Back in Action don't count). Thankfully we have the first with The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie that blends classic slapstick comedy with some modern twists that'll have you laughing to the moon and back.

I'm sure we'll cover the Space Jam sorta-sequel in a future episode of Overhated, but it won't be anytime soon. Instead it's me and Junkfood Cinema's Brian Salisbury continuing our Looney Tunes talk by focusing on Joe Dante's old-school insane Looney Tunes: Back in Action. Episode 301. Shametember kicks off this year with a movie that Melissa has somehow never seen -- 2003's Looney Tunes: Back in Action, from Joe Dante, the director of the Gremlins films. In this live-action and animation hybrid, Bugs and Daffy join a globe-trotting adventure with an aspiring stuntman who needs to save his action star father from the villainous chairman of Acme. We discuss the frantic plot and non-stop visual gags, celebrity cameos, product placement, Steve Martin's confounding performance, and our desire for a new version of Looney Tunes that's a surreal psychological drama starring Jesse Plemons as Porky Pig. From Cute & Cuddly to Killer: Joe Dante's Gremlins and Gremlins 2: The New Batch This week Mr. Chavez & I continue our stroll through the 1980s with a look at a stange kind of Comedy/Puppetry/Action/Horror hybrid, Joe Dante's Gremlins (1984). Dante - a graduate of the Roger Corman School of Low-Budget Filmmaking - is one of the most criminally underappreciated directors of the 1980s and 1990s. The Howling, Explorers, The 'Burbs, Matinee, Innerspace, and Looney Tunes: Back in Action . . . Joe Dante has been a reliable, solid, and inventive filmmaker. Gremlins is what he calls, "the movie I'm going to be remembered for. If I get hit by a bus tomorrow, the headline is going to be 'Gremlins Director Hit By Bus'. I'll never do something that'll outlast that in terms of the public image of who I am – which is fine with me." Dante shouldn't be limited to this, but I will say that the both Gremlins films are exceptional and it was a thrill to return to them and have one of our wonderfully insightful talks. Take a listen and let us know what you think. As always, you can reach us at gondoramos@yahoo.com. I had to re-upload this episode because of a mistake and I don't remember what the description said. Something about Timothy Dalton and Brendan Fraser. Hey, the Looney Tunes are here! Anyways, won't happen again. Music: Codename Dougwood by Shane Ivers - https://www.silvermansound.com/

Mario began his artistic career as an illustrator and designer and had a decade-long run with Disney during what is considered its second golden age of animation. His credits include The Lion King, Pocahontas, Atlantis, the Warner Bros film, and Looney Tunes Back in Action. He was an art director for independent animated features and is now a faculty instructor. Rosemary was born and raised in the South Bronx and started her creative journey as a magazine writer and editor working at Telemundo and NBC, all while creating ideas on the side. This included developing content for animated movies and TV shows with Mario, and together they created this book called Myra and the Drawing Drama, one of their various collaborations which we'll talk a lot about in this episode today. In this week's episode, Rosemary and Mario share their experiences as first-generation Latinx growing up in the Bronx, pursuing creative careers, and eventually creating a book together. Theirs is an incredible story of resilience and following their dreams. Both Rosemary and Mario have had a tough upbringing, but they were able to endure it all, become some of the best people in their fields, and become incredibly successful storytellers. Joseph from the Horror Throwdown Podcast Fraser Edition was supposed to come on to discuss how Brendan's Looney Tunes Back in Action (2003) character would fare against Leatherface from the (2003) remake of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre (starring Jessica Biel). Joseph couldn't make it so you're getting a Fran solo (shout out to Verbal Garbage podcast's Frank!) Looney Tunes Back In Action is a horrible movie. I do not recommendTexas Chainsaw Massacre remake is a highly entertaining movie with strong anti-bullying messages. Although going after people with a chainsaw isn't the way to deal with bullying Frannie discusses her goals & news
Episode 101 confronts the animated representation of disease and illness via Warner Brothers' 2001 cel-animated/live-action hybrid Osmosis Jones (Peter Farrelly & Bobby Farrelly, 2001), which tells the story of a white blood cell policeman who joins together with a cold pill to stop a deadly virus from destroying their human host. Joining Chris and Alex to talk about the film's imaginative depictions of a body's internal workings is Osmosis Jones' animation director Tom Sito, a veteran of the Hollywood animation industry who has worked on numerous animated fantasy films at the Walt Disney, DreamWorks, and Warner Brothers studios, from Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988) and The Lion King (1994) to Shrek (2001) and Looney Tunes: Back in Action (2003). Tom is currently Professor of Cinematic Arts at the University of Southern California, and author of the books Drawing the Line: The Untold Story of the Animation Unions from Bosko to Bart Simpson (2006), Moving Innovation, A History of Computer Animation (2013), and, more recently, Eat, Drink, Animate: An Animator's Cookbook (2019) containing the food recipes of famous animators such as Walt Disney and Chuck Jones. Listen as they discuss the production of the animated sequences for Osmosis Jones and the industrial and aesthetic stakes of hybridity; celebrity voice acting, “audio discipline,” and how the film's casting practices feed into its bi-racial buddy cop narrative; the creative representation of human biology as a bustling and hyper-modern urban space; the affordances of animation for shifting scales and fantastical perspectives; and how Osmosis Jones reveals the medium's metaphorical abilities in allowing spectators to grasp the often intangible shape of things. **Fantasy/Animation theme tune composed by Francisca Araujo**
End of the Podcast: Frannie turned from Happy Fangirl to Disgruntled Fangirl and Doesn't Like Fandoms anymore The title pretty much sums it up. Frannie doesn't want to be a fangirl anymore. She thinks fandoms suck now. She likes horror movies and standup comedy now. Coming soon is her new podcast: Comedy Fran in which she interviews standup comedians and also discusses her new foray into the fun of Standup comedy Frannie wishes the best of luck to Steph and Jaz. They've decided not to pursue the podcast on their own There will be a final guest episode with the Horror Throwdown podcast for a crossover between (2003) Looney Tunes Back in Action and the (2003) Remake of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre

It finally happened!!!!!! This can refer to both talking about LOONEY TUNES and talking with our good pal Chaz (babyyyyyyyyyyyy), choose whichever feels best for you. It's a long, chaotic, messy one. I'm just gonna copy and paste what one of the old descriptions said from here. Follow Chaz @chazcable.actor on Instagram and @chazjtok on TikTok. Mitch is threatening to leave early. What's up, doc? We return back to the Looney Tunes so soon after doing Space Jam, and this time we brought along some looney experts along with us. Jordan and Marc from That's Not Quite All Folks are continuing their Looney Tunes movie chronology with LOONEY TUNES: BACK IN ACTION, the Looney Tunes movie that WB didn't want you to know existed. We talk about this movie's lack of marketing, the behind the scenes nightmare for Joe Dante, and the Brendan Fraser Renaissance! After a long vacation, the Apocalypse Video Podcast is Back…in Action, that is. Yes, thanks to a crappy bootleg from a vendor in Bartertown, an anticipated viewing of the latest Beatles documentary, Get Back, turns into a forced torture session of the 2003 box office bomb, Looney Tunes: Back in Action. I'm your host, Dave, and joining me are fellow cinephiles and people who wish we could be watching Paul McCartney come up with #1 hits on the fly are Mike, Ryan, and Special Guest: Nick (aka: Immortan Hoof). Listen as we discuss Back in Action's troubled production history, which includes alternate concepts like Race Jam; Spy Jam; and Skate Jam (i.e. Tony Hawk, instead of Michael Jordan); Mike shocks us all with a hot take on the comedic legacy of Steve Martin; and finally, Nick and I activate our “Cult of Dalton” wonder twin powers as we talk about everyone's favorite underrated 007, Timothy Dalton. Be sure to rate, review and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. You can also Follow Us on Twitter, Like Us on Facebook, or shoot us an email at apocalypsevideopod@gmail.com. Got a movie you'd like us to watch? Hit us up and we'll talk about it on the next show! This is Dave from Sector 2…that's all, folks!

The break down interesting characters, discuss some what ifs, & imagine Hank asking for a CD player at a wake. There's also a bonus discussion about Looney Tunes Back in Action, and a healthy amount of Timothy Dalton impressions. It was a good time.
