LeBron & The Lakers' ELIMINATION Blows Up Gil's Arena as Gilbert Arenas & The Gil's Arena Crew react to the end of the Los Angeles Lakers season where LeBron James & Luka Doncic got bounced from the NBA Playoffs after just 5 games and proved they were no match for Anthony Edwards & The Minnesota Timberwolves. They break down how Ant-Man became an NBA Legend in front of our eyes by packing up the GOAT's Lakers squad and discuss how notorious NBA Villain Rudy Gobert proved to be the x-factor in taking down Luka & The Lakers. They also provide a post mortem on the Lakers' Season by discussing what this team could have done differently to add a Big Man to the roster and predict the future for Luka Doncic & LeBron James, before grading JJ Redick's first season as an NBA Head Coach as the former sharpshooter struggled in his first NBA Playoff appearance. With tears in their eyes they move on to recap Game 5 of the Houston Rockets vs Golden State Warriors series, where the Rockets took a hostile approach to slowing down Steph Curry to get themselves back in the series. The Gil's Arena Crew debates if Houston's approach is dirty or simply playoff basketball and discuss if they can keep up this intensity to force a Game 7. Finally, they break down Adam Silver's recent comments on the coverage of NBA Basketball including a tease that Gil's idea for a USA vs The World All Star game may be coming in the future and react to Stephon Castle taking home the NBA Rookie of the Year award, giving Victor Wembanyama & the San Antonio Spurs one of the best young cores in the NBA. Slappin' Glass sits down this week with former NBA, NCAA, and G-League Head Coach, and current Consultant with the Minnesota T'Wolves, Mike Miller. In this great conversation the trio discuss the art of being a great assistant coach, and dive into attacking a Box and One, and building a program through losing season during the always interesting "Start, Sub, or Sit?!"To join coaches and championship winning staffs from the NBA to High School from over 60 different countries taking advantage of an SG Plus membership, visit HERE!
In February of 1974, a high school junior by the name of Bill Cartwright showed up in Sports Illustrated's Faces in the Crowd after the Elk Grove start scored 62 points in a game. A year later, the senior was once again in SI as he was once dominating the high school basketball scene in Northern California. Soon, the hard-working, laid back 7-footer would be headed to San Francisco to play for the Dons... the 2nd Big Bill to dominate at USF. And dominate is exactly what Cartwright did... a 3-time WCAC player of the year, he would have his #24 retired by his college, and then was drafted two picks back of Magic Johnson as the 3rd choice of the 1979 NBA Draft. And as a rookie he thrived being named an All-Star after scoring almost 22 points a game and pulling down 9 boards as well. And none of this load management for Bill... he played over 38 minutes a game in all 82 games that season. in fact, in his first 5 seasons he missed only 15 games. But then disaster struck. Injuries to his left foot caused him to miss almost two full seasons of ball. All of a sudden this man who was never hurt, couldn't get on the court. His time in New York was never the same and in 1988 he was traded to the Bulls. This is when we say... and the rest is history. The dominant big man became the starting center in Chicago and was a key player on the Michael Jordan led teams that won the first of three straight NBA championships from 1991-93. And when his playing days ended, he returned to Chicago under Phil Jackson and won 2-more NBA titles as an assistant coach. Now over 50 years since the kid out of Sacramento was a face in the crowd, Bill joins us on the Past Our Prime podcast to tell us how his hard-working parents impacted his life... why he chose USF over UCLA and how he went from the frustration of two lost seasons in New York to the ultimate joy of not one, not two, but three NBA Crowns. A star player in high school, college and the NBA, 2-time championship-winning assistant coach, NBA Head Coach and now author of the book Living Life at the Center, Big Bill Cartwright is still the man in the middle... Confidence Hack #76: Writing is better than typing. All right, self admittance here. I have horrible handwriting. Not just bad, really bad. Be it as it may, I march on. There is absolute power in the brain and pen connection. Your memory of handwritten words is tied to the movements required to make each letter. When you write by hand, your brain actually gets an encoding boost. It's unclear how much more powerful writing is than typing, but experts have estimated it can be up to 5x more powerful. Writing vs. only auditorily hearing the information can be up to 20 times more powerful in retention. Today's confidence boost comes from committing to journal daily - either in the morning or evening. And bonus points if you carry a notebook around with you where you go. Some of the smartest people and best leaders I have been around do this. Erik Spoelstra, head coach of the Miami Heat and one of the top coaches in all of North American sports history, brings a notebook to every dinner meeting we have and avidly takes notes. If the best of the best do it, we may, too! Hey! If you love this show, share it with family and friends! It's the best way to help get this info into the hands of people who want to grow and become the most CONFIDENT LEADERS they can be! And please throw us a 5-star review!
