Nef The Pharaoh is a rapper from South Vallejo who rose to nationwide fame with his hit single "Big Tymin" in 2015. Influenced by Bay Area rappers like Mac Dre from an early age, Nef ended up signed to E-40's Sick Wid It Records. From there he has toured around the world and dropped multiple projects featuring artists from all over the West Coast and beyond. When a Vice film crew came to Vallejo to interview native rap sensation Nef the Pharaoh and others in its legendary music scene, Vallejo police officers showed up and detained everyone, giving cameras direct evidence of how police violence continues to shape the local rap scene. Using previously unreleased body camera footage, this episode illustrates how Vallejo native turned police officer, Joshua Coleman, feels about the community he grew up in and then policed, as well as details other interactions when police responded to cameras in the streets. In this episode, we're going to look at how policing and protests have helped shape the rich music scene in Vallejo, and how video shoots, like the one for Vice, have been targets for police scrutiny and  how officers target rap music. Still, some of those officers are avid fans of hip-hop or even rappers themselves.  Vallejo has a long line of famous musical acts calling it home at some point in their lives… from Sly and the Family Stone to H.E.R. to Mac Dre to E-40.

East Oakland's Capolow is a rapper on the rise. Known for his high-energy anthem songs and his catchy "aye-aye!" ad lib, Capolow's music is ringing bells in the Bay Area and beyond. He made an album called "Oakland Nights" with Kamaiyah, and has made individual tracks with E-40, ALLBLACK, and Nef The Pharaoh. But before he was a rapper – ten years ago – Capolow was one of the students in my class at Oakland Tech.

Noah Easter A.K.A Hunnid Grand Prezzi, is from Reno ,NV. At the young eager age of 18 years olds, music is everything to him. Every waking moment consists of freestyling, writing, and recording, to perfect his craft. His goal is to make as much music as possible to Casey I his legacy. As an artist in his own lane, he truly belives that music can really take people places and give most a good outlook on experiences they go through. Hunnid Grand Prezzi knows alot about music, but also is working towards knowing the things he hasn't come in contact with in the industry, thus far. He belives whole heartedly that music and knowledge of such are all in the mixture that leads to growth. While still at a young age he has reached milestones that many wish to have in a lifetime. He has opened for artist such as E40, Mike Sherm, and Nef The Pharaoh. Also participating in one of Reno NV, most popular contests named Project Flow. Hunnid Grand Prezzi is always searching for publicity, shows and fans. Through his hard work, dedication, skill and determination, he has become an Artist on the independant label MME.  

On this episode I sat down with Bay Area rapper Nef the Pharaoh. Nef is one of the dope MCs putting in work and climbing fast amongst the new generation. We spoke about teenage fatherhood, lessons and blessings, baby mama and more.  After finding out on his 18th birthday he was soon to be a father he had a lot to think about. Should he quit on his dream of becoming a rapper? Should he play it safe and go corporate? Nep, the son of an educator, was a high school drop out.
