This episode we take a break from discussing a specific training topic and instead talk about a challenge that most of us in the animal care field have faced: finding the time to train. The core of this episode stems from a quote by Ken Rameriz which is "Don't look at training as a luxury or fringe benefit: it is an essential part of an animal's life." This episode's guest, Stephanie Tien from the North Carolina Zoo, offers some tips in order to ensure that we all are finding the time to train and advice on ways to communicate with others in order to make training a priority. Tune in for Stephanie's "Training Tale" about a gorilla who she describes as "the gorilla version of Winnie the Pooh." For questions or suggestions about the podcast email abc@theabma.org and to reach Stephanie contact stephanie.tien@nczo.org. Let's talk some training!

Upon further investigation, there was no suspicious items found after looking through the zoo. In national news, three students and three adults were killed in Nashville shooting at a private Christian elementary school. According to the Washington Post, the suspect was a former student. Officials said that Hale was armed with two AR style weapons and a handgun. He is also dead after being shot by police. Police are still investigating what the motive was. Now time for sports. For local App State sports news today women's golf heads to Atlanta, Georgia for the Georgia State Invitational. However, I want to take one moment to talk about a standout player I've seen in this tournament. It's been Caitlin Clark for the Iowa Hawkeyes Women's Basketball Team. Clark against Louisville scored the first 40 point triple-double in men's or women's NCAA tournament history. This win over Louisville thrust Iowa into the women's Final Four for the first time since 1993. In this episode, I am going to tell you all about my most favorite attraction in North Carolina. The largest zoo in the world. Of all the places I have visited in this state, The North Carolina Zoo is the one I have been to the most. I am going to give you a rundown on the history of zoos and take you from into our zoo, from a cool idea to a place where elephants and giraffes graze only a matter of yards away from bison, bears, and alligators. Then I am going to give you a quick verbal tour of the zoo and what you may see there. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/nceverything/support

These animals are strong, independent, and they don't need change. They are head bangin' fist pumpin' spiky raggers, who would make a great rock band. This week on Animal Facts Podcast, we learn about the animal that possibly inspired what we know as ROUS's. They are very cute, and full of surprises! They may be dressed in an apron and bonnet offering you crumpets, or playing hide n seek in your house.Plus shout out to the North Carolina Zoo, for being super awesome!linktr.ee/animalfacts
Kristen Hess didn't always knew she wanted to work in architecture, but she always knew she should be in charge. Once she discovered an architect is akin to being the conductor of a symphony--bringing out the best of all the various players to create a piece--she knew it was for her. And once she came to Raleigh to study design at N.C. State, she never left. Now she leads a firm that is helping shape what our city and state (and beyond) will look like for generations. The firm she founded and leads, HH Architecture, has worked on numerous projects involving museums, parks, schools, community colleges, government buildings and more, including the upcoming Dueling Dinosaurs exhibit at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences (which you can hear more about in our interview with Dr. Lindsay Zanno!). We specifically discuss three projects she has worked on--the North Carolina Zoo, the State Farmers Market and the N.C. State Fairground--that are quintessential to life in this state.Hess has been a Marshall and Eisenhower Fellow, allowing her to broaden her contacts and knowledge, and she uses those experiences not only in her work, but in giving back to her community. She serves on the Greater Raleigh Chamber Executive Committee, the Governor's Council on Historically Underutilized Businesses, as well as the Board of Directors for the Girl Scouts of North Carolina Coastal Pines. Please support the businesses who support us: Papa Murphy's Take N Bake Pizza of Raleigh and Steele Residential.Subscribe to Podcast Raleigh on your favorite podcast sites so you never miss an episode, and if you enjoy it we'd love for you to rate or read a comment:Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/podcast-raleigh/id1458907220Google: https://play.google.com/music/listen?u=0#/ps/Inzk5woxrsjwf3zhd5vv3av4yeiStitcher: https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/podcast-raleighSpotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/6b3dVvLJfO0EqvDGQaFTAP
