The crew also welcomes Attorney James D. (Butch) Williams and Cameron Belton to the studio to get an in-depth analysis of the proposed new NFL CBA.
LeVelle Moton recently had his jersey retired by NC Central University, where he starred as a basketball player and is now the head coach. After leading his team to 3 NCAA Tournaments, he is one of the most recognized coaches at (and advocates for) an HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities). His team was recently featured in a great ESPN story on the not-so-glorious road on the life for smaller athletic programs. His phone includes numbers to some of the best basketball players in the world--LeBron James, Chris Paul, etc--with whom he regularly communicates. We could talk basketball with him for hours. So, of course, we covered NONE of those things in our hour-long chat with him. Instead, we listened to LeVelle tell his inspirational, and sometimes horrifying, story of how he came to Raleigh and grew up on the east side of town. Whether he was at the Boys and Girls Club, which his mother approved of, or at the small park near his house, which she decidedly did NOT approve of, he was learning from his environment and also learning how to move beyond it. We talked with LeVelle about his life experience and how that shaped who he is and how he's chosen to give back to his community. Before the interview, we discuss the upcoming NC primary election, the passing of an influential musician from Raleigh, and and new development being planned off Atlantic Avenue near Whitaker Mill Road. And we discuss some of Raleigh's best "small" parks.Special thanks to our sponsor, Steele Residential--check them out for buying, selling or renting!Subscribe/rate Podcast Raleigh on your favorite podcast sites:Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/podcast-raleigh/id1458907220Google: https://play.google.com/music/listen?u=0#/ps/Inzk5woxrsjwf3zhd5vv3av4yeiStitcher: https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/podcast-raleighSpotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/6b3dVvLJfO0EqvDGQaFTAP?si=QrcfEq8WSE2h3aEZSGV0pQ

The Sports Shop with Reese & K-Mac, heard weekday mornings from 6-9 on Buzz Sports Radio. It's "Throwback Thursday" as Reese, K-Mac, Jasmyn and actress/model Yesse Rodriguez take it back to 1984 for the bumper music. The crew also discusses NC Central bowing out of the NCAA First Four for the third straight season after falling last night to North Dakota State. The crew also celebrates the first full day of action of the NCAA Tournament that begins this afternoon and gives their Final Four picks. Reese also reflects on his visit to his home state of Alabama and his efforts to help aid in the recovery from tornadoes that hit Elmore County.
The bad news: NC Central fell to North Dakota State last night in the First Four. The good news: the first round of March Madness is finally here! Louisville takes the floor against the Golden Gophers of Minnesota. Danny Manning's future is still up in the air at Wake Forest, and Frank Howard is suspended indefinitely as Syracuse prepares for Baylor in the first round.
Gabe Morency and Cam Stewart are joined by Marc Lawrence from Playbook dot com. Marc doesnt have a good feel for tonight's NC Central against North Dakota St so he recommends NOT to play it! Marc and Gabe say this is not a vintage Villanova team. Gabe loves New Mexico State to go to the sweet sixteen! Learn more about your ad-choices at https://news.iheart.com/podcast-advertisers
NC Central is in the tournament after winning the MEAC tournament for the 3rd straight year, facing North Dakota State in the First Four. If they win however, they have to face their neighbors the Blue Devils in the 1st round. Coach LeVelle Moton was hoping his Eagles wouldn’t have to face Duke, he drops by the show to talk about that potential match-up and more, including the viral video of his son VJ at Senior Night.
The final hour of the show starts with Joe and Dane looking at how Virginia, the top seed in the South, may have the toughest road to the Final Four. The guys also think that if North Dakota St. wins their play-in game against NC Central, they could easily give Duke a very hard time in the first round, even with a healthy Zion Williamson. Dane thinks LSU is falling at their seams, and they may get upset by Yale. Joe and Dane agree that picking the 8 vs. 9 seeds games are the toughest, and use the South’s Ole’ Miss vs. Oklahoma as an example of brutal betting odds.
