The Mad Chatters Podcast | Walt Disney World and Around the Disney Universe
This week we look back at two fully-realized theme park projects that ultimately never came to be: one developed by Walt and his Imagineers around the time of the 1964 World’s Fair, just before Walt Disney World began construction in Florida, and the other dreamed up by Michael Eisner and company during the Disney Renaissance of the early 1990s. Join us and guest Courtney Guth as we talk about the Riverfront Square project in St. Louis and Disney’s America theme park in Washington, D.C., the attractions and experiences that were to be included at these locations, and why they ultimately failed. Plus, we travel back to the summer of 2010 to talk about what guests might have experienced during the Summer Nightastic limited-time celebration. We also go “Behind the Magic” of the Norway Pavilion in Epcot by talking about our favorite details and things to see at this World Showcase nation on its 32 anniversary. Buckle up, history nerds. This time-hopping episode is for you! Be sure to find Courtney online and let her know you enjoyed hearing her on the show: Podcast: Book of the Mouse Club | Twitter: @Courtney_Guth | Instagram: @greatguthsby If you'd like to see concept art for Disney's America, you can find a high-resolution brochure HERE. In this episode of Keep Moving Forward I interview the Norwegian entrepreneurial sensation, Geir Ness.52 episodes ago we embarked on a journey together that I will certainly never forget and today we celebrate one full year of aspiring to keep moving forward. From Disney blog to entrepreneurship podcast, I hope that each guest I’ve had the privilege to speak with has inspired you to continuously move forward in pursuit of your passions. I want to thank you all for sticking with me and supporting my podcast for so long; I can’t wait to see what our future has in store. For my very first episode I had the distinct pleasure of interviewing a man who encapsulates not only the Disney spirit from which my podcast derives its name, but also a man who is the embodiment of the entrepreneurial spirit in its truest form. So it only seems fitting to bring us full circle and cap off this fantastic year in a follow up interview with the one and only, Geir Ness. From aspiring actor to internationally acclaimed entrepreneur, public speaker, and author, there is truly nothing Geir Ness can’t do. In our first discussion, exactly one year ago, Geir goes into detail about his journey and the determination and hard work it took to get him to where he is today. Gaining his initial explosion into fame through his cosmetics company, featuring the first-ever Norwegian perfume, Laila, Geir burst onto the scene with a refusal to give up. Since he sold his first bottle up until now, so many incredible opportunities have been presented to Geir because of his relentless pursuit to turn his dream into a successful business. One such chance presented itself in the form of working with Walt Disney World. Geir travels almost 300 days a year with the majority of that time spent in the Norway Pavilion in WDW’s EPCOT Center, in Disneyland over California, and on the Disney Cruise Line promoting his many products. Which brings me to yet another reason I asked Geir back on the show: a new fragrance recently released by Geir that captures the essence of the Disney film sensation Frozen. While his life is a whirlwind of adventure, Geir says he wouldn’t want to be doing anything else, because he loves the people he gets to meet. To have this incredible man on my show to wrap up one full year of hopefully inspiring you all to keep moving forward is such an honor. I’ve met him a number of times in Disney and he always greets me with a hug and as if we’ve been friends for years. Geir connects with every single person he comes in contact with and I know that you will gain incredible insight from what he has to offer. I hope that you enjoy my interview with the man who helped kick off my podcast, Geir Ness. If you want to learn more about Geir, visit http://www.laila.com/, follow Geir on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram @GeirNess, and take a listen to the first ever episode of Keep Moving Forward featuring his story. If you guys enjoy Keep Moving Forward and want to tell me so, I would love for you to leave me a review on iTunes. And if you really like my show and would like for me to give you a shout out at the beginning of my next episode, you can donate as little as $1 to my podcast and become a loyal patron at https://www.patreon.com/keepmovingforward. Always remember, you can beat the odds and go the distance, if only you keep moving forward.
As a former Walt Disney World cast member and someone who spends a lot of time in the parks each year, I have tried almost all of the character dining experiences. One dining spot I have avoided for years, however, was the Princess Storybook Dining at the Norway Pavilion's Akershus restaurant. We remedied that recently and even recorded the experience for Episode 51: Live Review of Akershus Princess Dining. I'm going to save our detailed reviews for the podcast but I want to just mention that this meal did not disappoint! If you have little ones who love the princesses, this character meal has it all: great food, FIVE princesses, music, fun, and more! And you can even try some Norwegian specialties along the way! I hope you enjoy this week's episode and if you don't, it was all my wife Amy's idea!

This week we'll take another look at The Secret Life of Pets with one final trailer before it's release in The Neverland Trailer Park before I share my review of the new film, Independence Day: Resurgence. To kick-off the Keep Moving Forward podcast, I was privileged to interview the impressive entrepreneur, Geir Ness. For those of you who have ever visited Walt Disney World’s Norway Pavilion in Epcot Center, you know that the sweetest aroma to ever grace your nostrils exists within the walls of the country shop: the Puffin’s Roost. Disney fanatics immediately know that this scent belongs to the one and only Laila: the Essence of Norway, a perfume created by the entrepreneurial sensation himself: Geir Ness. However, for those of you who might not be completely familiar with his story, allow me to enlighten you. Geir grew up in Oslo, Norway, learning the values of hard work, perseverance, and discipline from the woman whose name with which Geir branded his company: his mother. She instilled within him the power that he could do anything that he set his mind to. With dreams of becoming an actor, Geir moved to Los Angeles, California in the hopes of starting his career. To pay the bills, he worked as a fragrance model in a department store. He was a huge hit, what with his accent, blonde hair, blue eyes, and muscular physique. Often, customers asked him where he was from and what scents came from his home country. Geir realized that Norway was not known for any perfume, and determined that he would change that. His inability to quit propelled him to the forefront of the cosmetics industry where his perfume is now featured in gift baskets at the Tony Awards, the Grammy’s, MTV Awards, Miss Universe, Miss Sport Football, and the Euro-Vision Song Contest. Of course, Laila is also featured in the Norway Pavilion in Epcot as well as on the Disney Cruise Line. Even though the Laila brand is now well-known and highly acclaimed, Geir remains feverishly dedicated and travels upwards of 285 days a year to promote his company. His tale is certainly one worth listening to, and I can’t thank him enough for his willingness to speak to me about his life story. I hope that you enjoy this exclusive interview with Mr. Geir Ness, the true essence of Norway. If you would like to take a look at his collection of products, head over to http://laila.com/.
