Love Thy Enneagram Number
The Deceitfulness of Good Conclusion

The Passion for For type 1s is ANGER. Type 1s are often called the Reformers and hold themselves to very high standards which is a good quality, right? SO…the deceitfulness of the passions is that it seems GOOD to be conscientious and ethical, with a strong sense of right and wrong. And being ANGRY goes against what seems to be GOOD. So they resist being angry. And when others don't seem to hold the same standards of goodness then that anger that they resist builds. But 1s are even harder on themselves so that anger turns inward so often if they believe they haven't lived up to their own standards. The relentless demand of the inner critic to be good and do good at all times and to set the standard for what is good, replaces personal needs and shuts down feelings which, if left unaddressed will come out in the form of resentment. Type 2s…The Passion is Pride …..This seems so opposite of what we see in type 2s who are so giving of their love, their time, knowing what everyone else needs. In fact, they are so focused on others that they take PRIDE in seeming to not have needs of their own. THEY see themselves as THE SOURCE of what others need. It seems GOOD to be so servant-hearted but when they resist acknowledging they have needs, having denied their own in service to others, they are actually denying others the gift of service. For type 3s the passion is Self-deceit or conforming to what they think is necessary to be SEEN as successful or WORTHY. 3s are often called “Shape shifters” because they will take on the role of what they think OTHERS want them to be. It seems GOOD to be success-driven and even GOOD to be adaptable but they resist resting in their authenticity and resist knowing they are fully loved apart from any external success. The passion of type 4 is Envy but this envy is a internal sense of a lack of being whole…like something about themselves is inherently missing. They tend to believe everyone else has that missing thing. They long for authenticity which leads to the desire to be unique because they actually believe they ARE unique because others have what they believe they are missing. 4s are SO in touch with this FEELING of deficiency that they seek value in an idealized external experiences or work or a relationship. It seems GOOD to BE AUTHENTIC and not conform but they resist knowing there's nothing missing because they are so identified with that image. It becomes a never ending loop if left in an unhealthy stage. Type 5's passion is AVARICE but in Enneagram language it is not a desire for obtaining money or possessions but of resources .They retreat inward and hoard their time and energy. This inward focus allows the Type Five ample time to focus on ideas and acquiring knowledge. That doesn't seem like a negative thing, right? I mean…isn't it GOOD to know what you're talking about - to gain knowledge and to not just throw your time and energy away? It can be good for sure. BUT…they worry that if they share too much of themselves, they won't have enough left. SO…in resisting connection by retreating inward, but it also builds a wall between them and others. As they pull back from external connections, they also become detached from their emotional self. The passion for type 6 is FEAR. They are sometimes referred to as THE LOYALISTS - great people to have on your team, right? Type 6s are so great at anticipating what could go wrong. They look for where danger could be lurking or what problems MIGHT occur at any time. We NEED these people who are cautious and security-oriented. If I'm going on a wilderness trek that's who I want to go with! But they can become so focused on what could go WRONG that they become suspicious and filled with self-doubt. So what seems GOOD can be paralyzing. For Type 7s the passion is Gluttony. In this context it's a almost insatiable craving to experience ALL THE THINGS. 7s see the positive in most things and are typically focused on being joyful and happy. 7s deepest fear is being trapped in emotional pain so they try to avoid anything that causes pain or sadness. In fact, they see their worth is in BEING the positive person. It seems GOOD to look for the positive, to be Joyful, to NOT dwell in pain. And so....they resist what is actually before them in the present and deny that they experience pain. This also makes them emotionally unavailable to anyone else who might need them in time of grief. And what happens? They disconnect from their heart and my body, rationalize away the pain and escape to a place in the future where there is no sadness. But that place doesn't actually exist and instead of feeling FULL of all aspects of life, they are left feeling a hunger and emptiness through what appeared to be GOOD. Type 8s passion is called LUST which isn't just about sexuality although it can include it. 8s have a desire for INTENSITY in whatever they do. They take the initiative and make things happen! They see the world as unjust and power imbalanced. So they feel they need to dominate so they are not controlled. They are the most assertive type in the enneagram. 8s want to be self-reliant, to prove their strength and resist weakness, to be important in their world. 8s are often referred to as THE PROTECTOR. They are often champions for the underdog. That sounds SO GOOD! But in their attempt to control and NOT BE controlled they lose touch with vulnerability. They can see it as weakness and so they resist letting their feelings be seen. Make no mistake, though…8s are very feeling people but keep up the powerful façade so they won't be hurt. Type 9's passion is called Sloth. So…what does ‘sloth' mean in Enneagram language? It is sense of inertia to YOURSELF….a falling asleep to your OWN passions, abilities, desires, needs, and worth by merging with others. Why have type 9s been called the PEACEMAKERS? Because they strive to maintain peace both internally and externally. So, this means avoiding conflict at all costs! You will often read about type 9s' desire for Peace and Harmony like they are one and the same. But they are not. I think that 9s - like all of us, actually, would love to live in HARMONY with the world but we settle for NO-CONFLICT. The tendency is to GO ALONG with others to avoid not having peace. So - where is the deceitfulness of Good here? Type 9s often make great mediators because they have an ability to see all sides of a situation. How great is that? They generally have a calming effect on people, they are usually non-judgmental, easy going. But, as we have quoted throughout this series, “what you resist not only persists, but grows stronger.” When you resist your own needs to accommodate others' it will result in unhealthy relationships - maybe even a codependent relationship. Avoiding conflict with others keeps Nines from being fully present in relationships. Avoiding internal conflict leads to inertia and self-forgetting. When so much of their focus is on other's then there isn't a lot of energy to take care of your own. 9s can become passive-aggressive and resentment builds because they have so much to contribute to the world but taking on the role of THE PEACEMAKER keeps them from taking action on their own desires. Once again…this is the loop that we all get in when we don't acknowledge our suffering. We are deceived into believing our GOOD WORKS will equal being LOVED. #Enneagram #EnneagramPassions #DeceitfulnessOfGood #SelfDeceit #Enneagram1 #Enneagram2 #Enneagram3 #Enneagram4 #Enneagram5 #Enneagram6 #Enneagram7 #Enneagram8 #Enneagram9

As human beings, we are neurobiologically hardwired for connection. In this insightful conversation I have with Eric Williamson, we talk about how success is dependent upon our ability to form and maintain great relationships with others. He shares his lessons learned from letting his Ego take over and becoming a work jerk (i.e., someone who does not use social skills as a necessary job skill and fails to manage their emotions), how we can avoid the same fate, and how we can still get stuff done when we are faced with jerks. We also talk about the importance and value of being willing to take in feedback, look in the mirror and wade in the messy middle to work on ourselves. I hope you’ll leave our conversation with a newfound appreciation of continuing to work on ourselves, questions to ask to effectively move forward (vs. raise defensiveness), and ways to be effective - even if you find yourself surrounded by jerks. How To Relay Your Message To Customers With Krista Ripma How to make sure your message isn’t lost? Josh: Who has trouble relaying their message and being the person that they want to be from their heart? You got into business for a certain reason, and most of the time that is emotionally driven for those young entrepreneurs that are trying to make a difference. Sometimes that authentic marketing doesn't come through with your message. We've got Krista here from Authentic Audience. She's here today to talk to us about how you can get that message through in a way that resonates with your story, resonates with your customers, and ultimately gets you more sales. So, Krista, tell me, how do you make sure that your message doesn't get lost in the midst with the message of everyone else? That's also trying to make sure that they're authentic? and so on and so forth? Krista: Great place to start. So no one is you is the simple answer. So although there are lots of marketing and sales coaches out there in the world, nobody's me, so nobody's going to deliver my message in the same way that I am. So I think the first step is to ask yourself, what are your gifts, and these are the gifts that you bring into your business that you walk into a room with, that your best friend would say about you, and start from that place. So for me, my gifts are authenticity and truth. So I try and bring that into my business into my messaging and into everything I share, which sets me apart and makes me more unique and approachable. And I also think, sharing your why and sharing your story, your personal story and journey before you found x, whatever product service or anything it is that you're selling, your customer is you before you had this transformation. Get really, really specific in who you are and also who you're talking to.   Finding The Right Audience That Wants To Work For You Josh: If you've got your message down pat, or maybe you need someone to see it from a distance, I found it difficult to see the forest for the trees. I thought I've got a great message. But, I've got that message from the mindset of an engineer from the mindset of someone who is very detail-oriented. So having an authentic audience, how can you make sure your audience isn't just talking bullshit? How do you make sure you get the right audience that does resonate with your message? Krista: My first suggestion is to write a letter to your dream client or your dream customer. This is like the first thing I have anybody do if you ever come work with me. Regardless whether it's a session with me or a course, we always do this, and I have you write a letter to your dream customer, because they're out there. They need what you're selling. They're listening to other podcasts. Who do they follow? What books are they reading? What inspires them? What pain points are they experiencing, the more you can get in the head of your dream client or customer and talk to them. It's amazing how quickly they start to show up every call I get on. I'm still excited and surprised who shows up because it's like you're exactly who I was speaking to and you're exactly who I made this for. Quality Over Quantity Krista: So I think a big mistake we make when we're trying to grow our audience is we want quantity over quality. And really, it should be the other way around. If you have 100 people who are engaged with what you're sharing and buying from you, that's amazing, versus 10,000 people who aren't commenting, aren't buying, aren't connecting. So the name of the game is get specific, get really, really specific. And the best way to do that is talk to this person, write a letter to this person, create a mood board, whatever it takes to really connect to and be in service to your dream customer. Be Authentic Josh: I know for my customers, I'm happy enough to say that if any of them saw me at a pub, they come over to me and buy me a beer without even saying hello, they're like "oh Josh, here you go" and you've got that perfect relationship and they know your partner's name. I'm happy to say that we do have a fantastic group of listeners, the businesses that we work with. What we found in having that is their retention rate is huge and the churn is incredibly low, so we don't lose many customers. Because we do have that relationship and because we do understand their pain points, anyone in business can really start to see it. They and feel like hey, if they know me to this level of business, if they know that I'm building this house and the direction that my business is going and not just macro but micro details about each other, you can make the right decisions and know that you are going to be putting in better solutions than your competitor.   It’s Beyond Business Benefits Krista: That's a really good point that you made. It's beyond just the business benefits, it's the benefits of you, of being in your community of being in your world. And I just can't stress that enough how valuable that is, the more vulnerable, the more personal, the more real you are. And then when somebody sees you, like they come on a call, or they use your services, or see you in the pub, they feel like they know you. I do think that the more we can authentically be our full selves, the more people will resonate with that. I just can't stress enough how beautiful that is, and what an important point that is to make. When you hide behind your brand it's impossible to have that relationship with your audience. Don’t Hide Behind Your Brand Josh: Perfect what you said there, hiding behind your brand. You sit there hiding behind your brand, we have a look at Steve Jobs. And the way that he was the ambassador for the brand, people loved Steve Jobs. He owned a portion of Apple versus some of the other massive brands out there, like who resonates the same way with Google. Or the same way with McDonald's or some of these other massive brands. And it's not that they're doing things wrong, they're still working in a way, that's fine. But when you go to contact Google support, you can't find a phone number. Facebook support, you can't find a phone number, any of these large companies can't find a phone number. With Apple, you're able to go into a store and speak to someone there and really get to know them. How to Not Be a Copycat Business Josh: If you've made an entry point that the other businesses weren't doing, how can you make sure that you don't end up with a copycat business that takes the same information? You've created the same content on the web, the same scripts, it's very difficult to sort of not just have those spun and changed into something else. And for anyone out there that's listening, spinning content is where you take someone else's content, adjust some of the syllables pretty much and then make it your own, put the sentences in a slightly different way. But how can you make sure someone doesn't have that same message so that from the outset, it appears as if you are the same? Or at least they're trying to compare apples with apples before they have that authentic relationship? How can you make sure that for us in Australia, the Hungry Jack's to McDonald's, or for you guys, the Burger King to McDonald's, how can you make sure you can have that differentiator? Krista: You know, I mean, people can smell authenticity, it's crazy. I think just having that faith in our customers and in our audience that they know. For me, if somebody was trying to spin off my content, I would see that as a great sign, it means I'm doing something, right. And also, nobody's me. So you could take my script. You could have my talking points. You could have my slides, but it's not going to feel the same. And I think as a culture, we're becoming more and more conscious of who we're buying from and where our money's going. I'm seeing it in the Facebook ads, I'm running every day, like people really care, especially since COVID. This whole idea of spending and connecting and community is so big. So I think that, first of all, if you are focusing on copying somebody else, or doing what somebody else is doing, you're doing a disservice to yourself and to your customers, and really into the world. I am very spiritual. I believe we're all here with a Dharma or a purpose. And it can be really easy to see somebody else in our industry doing something and be like, oh, I'm just going to try and do that. But that's not your purpose. That's not your dharma. And so to try and do that, or change your business model, or your strategy based on somebody else's, or their posts or their content is such a disservice. If you can just try and block out that noise. One of my teachers says comparison dilutes your focus. Because when we're comparing ourselves, we're not focused on our work on our art, our flow, our process, whatever it is that we're creating. So for me, if I'm on the side of seeing somebody else trying to copy my work, I'm like, go for I. You're never going to be able to do what I can do and just own that. And secondly, if you're trying to work on somebody else's stuff, instead of focusing on your stuff, that's such a bummer, because you have amazing gifts and services that are getting lost in that process. The last thing I wanted to say when you talked about Steve Jobs, I think that's such a good example. And I say all the time and people follow people, and then they follow brands. And so just how you introduced me, Krista from Authentic Audience, and I'm the face of it, I'm the voice of it. It's not me. Authentic Audience is a beautiful company with its energy and vibe of its own. But it wouldn't have the same energy if there wasn't a face and a personality and somebody being the messenger for that brand. So when you hide behind your brand, or you don't step forward and really own it, you're actually doing the business a disservice as well. The Secret and The War of Art Josh: As the saying goes imitation is the greatest form of flattery. And it's not a bad thing, if people decide to do that, it's a good thing. And it sounds like you would have read "The Secret". Krista: I have, I've read The Secret. And my other big book that I tell people to read is the War of Art by Steven Pressfield, it's a quick read. It's a lot about resistance, and stepping into your art and like facing resistance, and overcoming that and really owning who you are, and working on your art and your purpose and your guests. And yes, The Secret, I read it a long time ago, but I feel like it really stuck. Josh: When you were saying write a letter to your ideal customer, bringing it into your world and knowing exactly what you want. And having that hyper focus makes a huge difference. Knowing that these are the people you want to work with also removes the poo customers, so to speak, the ones that you don't want to work with. Krista: Totally because they won't resonate with it. I just think energy is so real, especially in our businesses. And it's like if energy is too woowoo for you then like getting more concrete with goals and spreadsheets and getting really, really specific, like this is my dream customer. This is how many of them I want to reach this is how many sales I want to make. And this is how I'm going to go about doing that. So I always start with the goals. And then the very first action item that I have anybody do is write a letter to the person that they want to reach with these goals. And it's just it calls it in, it's like you have to put it out there. And the more you say it, the more you speak it, the more you share it, those people will just start to show up because they'll hear you. The Right Customers Are Out There Josh: That's exactly what we want. Like we want those correct people, anyone that says that they don't have enough people in business, or they can't find the right audience are probably not really thinking enough about who their right audience is. And a lot of the time and you'll hear this, everyone's my audience, everyone can work with me. And when you have that approach, I find that no one will work with you if you've got everyone working with you. It just dilutes your message and also makes you more commoditised. So if you are in a position, you've got that mindset and someone wants to start writing this letter, what are some of the attributes, you really want to make sure that they're having that hyper focus on like, I've undergone similar activities, where were we talking? Do they like golf or yachting? Or just you really go down to their hobbies? What does their weekend look like? Is that the kind of stuff that you'd suggest to go into the letter? Krista: It really depends. There's somebody out there that needs your service right now. If they were sitting across from you, what would you say to them? I mean, it's as simple as that it's what pain points are they experiencing right now that your product service or offer can solve? And how do you want to deliver it to them?   The fiist thing I'll actually suggest sometimes if you don't know where to start with your letter is answering the four key questions that any business needs to be able to answer. Who are you? What do you do? Why does it matter? And what's in it for me, the customer? That's your pitch. That's your one liner. That's how you connect with people. And that's how you feel seen and engaged as quickly as possible as being able to refine those answers. So when you're writing this letter, it's who are you, you tell them who you are. You tell them what you do, you tell them why it matters, and you tell them what's in it for them. So that's always a good place to start, and then getting as specific as you can. Also, my dream client is always changing, because my business is always evolving and changing. So the person I was speaking to last year isn't who I'm speaking to now. And so I suggest people do this almost quarterly to sort of set yourself up for success. I like to work in 90 day sprints. So every 90 days are, so I like to sort of revisit this idea of who I'm calling in to hit these specific goals for the next 90 days. It truly is amazing how it happens and how quickly it happens to.   Finding Customers When You Aren’t Outgoing Josh: You have to have a business plan, but they evolve as well. And I think that you should be writing them both together, you shouldn't be neglecting one or the other thing, having the business plan to know what you want to achieve is just solidifying a dream and writing down so you can have actions to get to get to the future. Knowing the people that are going to be able to have you take those actions is all about writing a letter to know exactly who you're talking to. When you've got those items in place. How do you start if you have no knowledge on how you're going to find a customer, you've never done networking, you're possibly introverted type person? Where do you find the person? Or how do you know once you've got your letter written? I know this is going to be a super difficult question to answer. So I'm going to go with this scenario. Let's say you've just finished university and you want to become own your own practice as a lawyer, or we can go with this scenario of the pie shop owner. How do you go about finding those people when you know you're a detail oriented person, very factual, but not necessarily outgoing and you need to go talk to lots of people. How would you find that audience? Krista: I'm going to assume that you're a fantastic lawyer or that you bake fantastic pies. The product is everything, so marketing and sales can't make your product better, right, it can just get it out in front of the right people and position it in a place for them to buy. But it has to be good. So let's just assume that it's good. It's the best pie in town. There are five people in your world right now, just five people that if you reached out to them, it would change your business. Right now, everybody has this, whether it's an aunt, an uncle, a friend, a cousin, or somebody that you knew from college, there are five people in your world that if you reached out to them, they would be excited to hear from you and happy to help. So I always start those there, those are your low hanging fruit. And just say, this is what I'm doing. This is what I'm offering, this is what I'm looking for. What do you suggest if you're just starting from the very beginning? Get some beta testers. I have three free slices of pie that I'm giving away today, who wants them, like DM me, write me back if you want this free slice, or this beta test of whatever it is that I'm offering. So it's always about crawl, walk, run, you don't want to just hit the gas without testing without refining. And as my partner would say, it's get one customer and get one customer, take them through your journey and make sure that they're happy customers. So you take one person, make sure they're happy, they loved your service, they love your offer, the best form of marketing will forever be word of mouth. So you make one customer happy, you'll get three more, because they'll go tell their friends, they'll go tell their partners, and the word of mouth will start coming. What marketing is online, what I do is just kind of like digital word of mouth, right? But you still need that initial organic traction, before you start running ads or doing anything crazy like that. It's like, reach out to five people get one customer make it a success. That is way farther than most people starting out will do. You're already ahead of the game if you have one happy customer. You Need to Be Sustainable Josh: I think it also gives you the confidence internally to go, okay, I've done this with one person, I can do this with another. And as you said perfectly, I don't think people get into business, and I could be wrong in this, but I don't think people get into business to go, I'm going go make shit pies and be a bad lawyer. Krista: I mean, I would hope not. I would hope not. You know, it's not sustainable. And so that's always like, when you're having trouble with sales or marketing. I'm like, well, how's your product? How's your service? Can we invest in making that experience better for people? Whenever I look at somebody's account, or website or service, I'm like, before we drive people here, let's make sure this is good. Let's make sure this is going to convert and what you're offering is super valuable, because it's way easier to keep customers then continuously finding new ones. Josh: I completely agree with that. And when you look at costs of churn customer churn, it's huge. For us, we have some pretty cool offers for our customers or for our leads, where we say, look, we'll hack into your business, if we can't hack into business, we'll give you $1,000. And we think well, that's pretty good. But if we can hack into your business, we're going to have a discussion around how we're able to do that. Krista: I love that! Josh: It's a strong call to action that says we know what we're doing. And it has some elements of discrediting the current company that wins, because business owners that need to know they aren't in the game of knowing all that they need to know about technology, all that there is out there about technology, because it's not a requirement for them. That's why they hire the experts and making sure you're making great pies. Lead With the Benefits Krista: I love that call to action, though, I think that says so much like I feel something it's risky. And it tells me that you know what you're doing? And also, I don't need to know what you do. I just need to know the benefits. And I think that's a huge mistake. So many people are focused on the features like what's included, but not the benefits, right? So I always say lead with the benefits. And I feel like that call to action right there. That's solid. I have nothing to say about that. There's always something I have to say, so that's very impressive. Josh: Only because you said that I'm going to tell you the other one that we use and that's financially backed up time. So we had to look at what our competitors were offering versus what we are offering and our competitors charges a flat rate per month for their IT support and you get unlimited IT support, we charge a flat rate. And we thought, well, that's not really a differentiator. But then we said if you have downtime, we will pay you per hour until you go back up. That's not something anyone else is doing. That means that if your business is down from a technology standpoint, it's costing you money, it's costing you downtime, it can be costing you 10s of thousands of dollars an hour, depending on the size of the business. If we say look, we're going pay you per hour if you go down. And obviously that's a scalable statement, depending on the size of their business, everyone's pulling the ship in the same direction. We want to get to make sure we're offering the best support the fastest support the best solution so that you don't go down because we don't want to be paying it. It's not a very good business model for us. Krista: I think it's great. I mean, and just the way you talk about it, it's so clear that it's authentic, right? And it's like, again, going back to that idea. Like, it's not something you can fake like seeing the way you light up about it. And you're excited to tell me about it. I personally find I.T very boring, but listening to you talk about it. I'm like, tell me more. That matters to people. When I teach my marketing fundamentals course, and the basics of marketing, it could be very boring, but I'm so excited about it, that it makes other people excited about it. And I think that's just a key point in selling and sales is if you're not excited, and you're not sharing and posting and screaming it from the rooftops how amazing your offers, why should anyone else care? Josh: Exactly. And everyone has the ability, as I say, this is a cringy sentence. But with IT, we try to squirt some sexy on it. Krista: I love that. Josh: It's what we try to do. It's not a very fun topic. It's something that people will roll their eyes over at. But it's something everyone has to have. And everyone understands the effects that has if you don't have a great marketing plan, if you don't have a great sales strategy, if you don't have your sales funnels or pipelines reformed and refined. You're not going to be able to have said sexy squirted on your business. So people out there that are probably thinking, ah, man, I want some sexy, or my business or I want to have a business, it's doing what what I wanted to be doing. But maybe they're a bit too scared. Or they might not have that creative mindset or flair to be able to really bring that laser focused message into place. I understand you got some strategy sessions, and also a course, tell us a bit about how that works. Getting Help From Krista Krista: Sure. So the two ways in which we can work together, I have a course called Marketing Fundamentals and that's the basics. So it goes through types of digital offers, a lot of people don't know, there's so many things out there, YouTube, LinkedIn, SEO, Facebook, like what should I be doing? How should I be doing it? So I break down all the types of digital marketing. Then I go into mindset, and then I go into organics, and I teach you how to build a sales funnel. So that's the basics. If you have a good audience size, if you have a great email list, and you don't know how to launch, you don't know how to price you don't know how to create your offer, or you have an offer, but you're ready to get it out there more. That's where my Strategy Sessions come in. So I do a deep dive with you. We get on and we go into everything from customer journey, pricing flow, everything across the board goals. And then we hang up and I build you a custom strategy. if you do what I say it will work. Josh: I've been in business for 13 years, and I'm still doing courses, I'm still doing refresher things, you can never know too much. Like as you said, you wanted to do something, let's say you're not doing much, or you're not doing much well through social media. So what do you go through Pinterest, or Instagram or Facebook or LinkedIn, or focusing on the AdWords strategy. There's so many different options. The only advice I could give is focus on one, not all of them. If you want more advice in that you should probably be talking to Krista there and jumping in and checking out what she has to say because it varies for every business to what the approach is. In today's day, there's no silver bullet that's going to help work for everyone. It's about working out exactly how it works for you. Krista: Yeah, that's exactly it. That's why I created these custom Strategy Sessions because I know business is the same even if you're in the same industry or strategy, depending on your needs, budgets and goals is going to be totally different. So that's why I like to dive in with you and build something that's totally tailored to you. That's like with clarity, focus and again focusing on one thing at a time that is key. Josh: If you have enjoyed what Krista has had to say make sure to jump across to Authentic Audience.co. Give us some feedback, and stay healthy.

Anxiety About Earthly Death Related to Issues of Today Is Needless; Jesus Said: “Do not be anxious”, but Not Being Ready for Your Earthly Death Is Foolish   MESSAGE SUMMARY: The earthly byproducts of today’s Coronavirus and election activities include the real potentiality of severe illness and death which produce new levels of fear and uncertainty in our lives today. Having yourself and the ones you love live with the constant material risk of death, from a source about which few were aware only eight months ago, can be a source of anxiety-driven health issues. Daily, the media depicts a world with increasing fear of earthly death while peace in our lives seems to be losing to the virus and civil discourse. You must constantly remember Jesus’ promise to you, in Matthew 6:34, that His followers should NOT BE anxious: “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”. However, you must be ready for the end of your earthly life and the return of the Lord. In 1 Thessalonians 5:1-2, Paul writes to the Christians at the church in Thessalonica: “Now concerning the times and the seasons, brothers, you have no need to have anything written to you. For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. While people are saying, ‘There is peace and security,’ then sudden destruction will come upon them as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. But you are not in darkness, brothers, for that day to surprise you like a thief. For you are all children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness. So, then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober.”. Are you ready for your earthly death? Are you sure in your Salvation? If not, make yourself ready and keep ready! God’s Grace and the Gospel of Jesus prepare you for your earthly death while providing the means for your Eternal Life!   TODAY’S AFFIRMATION: Today, I affirm that, because I am in Jesus Christ, I will seek God’s perspective on my situation. For I know that in all things God  works together for good to those of us who love Him and are called according to His purpose. (From Romans 8:28). SCRIPTURE REFERENCE (ESV): Matthew 10:37-39; 1 Corinthians 9:12-23; James 3:13-18; Hebrews 4:15-16; Psalms 65:1-13. https://youtu.be/6JICsTWjQQo How to Not Be a Selfie Church Excessive self-love is defined in several fields of study as narcissism. It is a generalized personality trait characterized by egotism, vanity, conceit, or selfishness. It is having an excessive self-focus in interpersonal exchanges or being excessively selfishness and self-absorbed. It is one who has a grandiose sense of self-importance, requires excessive admiration, and has a very strong sense of entitlement. The word comes from the Greek myth of Narcissus, a handsome Greek youth who fell in love with his own reflection in a pool of water and would spend hour after hour gazing into the pool at himself. This is the opposite of the Christ-like nature within a true disciple who demonstrates their love for others by their faithful attendance, serving, giving, and sharing of their life. Jesus said, “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends John 15:13.” Some count their life too dear unto themselves, too valuable, too precious to lay it down for others. This is unlike the Apostle Paul’s example and messages to the church. Paul’s letter to Colosse had three purposes: to combat false teaching, to make clear the revelation of Jesus Christ as the Son of God, and to stress the true nature of life in Christ and its fruit in the believer. Colossians 3:5-15 New King James Version (NKJV) 5 Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. 6 Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience, 7 in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them. 8 But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. 9 Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, 10 and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him, 11 where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all. 12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. 14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. 15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. I want to talk about “self”. Self is the mark of the lukewarm church. Another word for lukewarm would be complacent- showing smug or uncritical satisfaction with oneself or one's achievements. Synonyms include- smug, self-satisfied, self-approving, self-regarding, triumphant, proud, pleased, content, careless, lazy, slack Seven churches are mentioned in Revelation. The number 7 being the number of completion these were 7 churches all about 30-40 miles away from each other in the Asian province. They not only represented the whole churches at that time, but also are representatives of the entire church throughout the church age. There were many other churches at this time in history, but these represented the spectrum of churches that existed in the first century, but also the spectrum of churches that exist now. There were more well known churches- such as the church of Colosse, but the Lord chose these seven because they represented conditions that have prevailed throughout church history. In other words, there are 7 basic types of churches that exist in any time period of church history. Every church that truly knows Jesus as Lord can be recognized as fitting one of these 7 models at some particular point in history. These letters also serve as a preview of the entire church history, from beginning to consummation- they represent 7 stages or key periods...

In this episode, we reveal who we are: REALLY BIG CELEBRITIES. Or perhaps we discuss some real ones who are showing up as trendy Christians on social media—Chris Pratt, Justin Bieber, Sherilyn Fenn, Kendall Kardashian. We kick off the show by telling you about a great podcast that takes on the more serious issues of deconverting from religion: Out of the Fold. They aim to unite all apostates in a supportive atmosphere. Check them out. *Plus, we just opened a Facebook Page and Facebook discussion group. Please like, join, share. There’s a meme contest going on right now. If we choose yours, you get a podcast shout-out and a heathen prophecy. Our discussion group is private, so your mom won’t know a thing! Karen gives a shout out to her soulmate David Spade before we introduce our new segment, “Quest to Not Be a Whiny Asshole.” Basically, it is something that made us happy from the previous week. Bonnie proves nicer and more intelligent than Karen by bringing up Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs diagram and brags that she’s NOT severely lactose intolerant like Karen but still is in love with a creamer called Nut Pods (which Karen says reminds her of gonads). Bonnie also brings back the convo to tennis and Rafa Nadal as she talks about her friend Brewster asking her about a perfect day and recounts enjoying the US Open tennis Fan Week. Karen reads a letter from listener Eloise talking about how she, like Karen, was a tiny Bible scholar of the Bible. So much so that 7 or 8-year-old Eloise corrected her pastor during a sermon! She wishes her head had been filled with helpful information like the periodic table of contents. Me, too, child. Me, too. Yet, it was that study of the Bible that led me, Karen, right out the ass end of Christianity. Karen’s QN2BWA (Quest Not to be a Whiny Asshole) was about schooling a super Christian on the fact that Paul never met Jesus. Again, Bonnie is the nicer of us, obviously. Bonnie paraphrases an article from VOX about the new wave of Christianity being popularized by celebs like Chris Pratt, Justin Bieber, etc. The spin is about how the “new” church like Zoe, Hillsong, and whatnot. But Ellen Page slaps back on social media and talk shows that Chris Pratt’s church is anti-LGBT and how it leads to self-hate and worse among youth. We give free publicity to more celebs when Bonnie reveals she might be the same person as Sherilyn Fenn from Twin Peaks. And a story where Burt Reynolds would rather drown than be witnessed to. (Also in this episode: Eckhart Tolle, Russell Brand, Blair from Facts of Life, and Farrah Fawcett).

Adam and Jeannie discuss how to get the best results when you complain as a customer. What do you gain when you complain? We talk a lot about how to handle customer complaints, but we’re switching it up a bit today! We’ve all had those experiences that leave us so steamed, we just want to unload a verbal clip on the next employee who comes our way. But there’s a big difference between getting actual support and just getting your way from service reps, managers and supervisors.  Though most of us prefer to do business with companies that “get it,” sometimes it’s not practical to stop patronizing the drug store right around the corner or the cable provider we’re contracted with. If the overall experience still works for us, there are ways to make the parts that don’t more bearable, or even inspire positive change. The sad truth is, not every company we deal with is as customer-focused as we are. So how can we get the best results, without making a bad experience worse? How can we stand up for ourselves without creating tense relationships for the long-term? We don’t need to walk on egg shells with companies that don’t provide a good experience, but applying a few customer-centric practices to advocate for ourselves can help them see the value in listening to us and maintain healthy relationships. Working towards better experiences for everyone is sometimes a two-way street, and just expecting reps to “take it” from us is not part of the recipe. Adam and Jeannie have some great tips to help you complain in ways that help create better experiences all around. Listen in! Michelle Mazur, Ph.D. is hired by speakers and entrepreneurs to create speaking as profit-center for their business by building a speech-like product that positions them as the go-to expert in their field. She is the CEO of Communication Rebel. She lives in Seattle, WA with her adoring husband, 2 obsessive felines, and a huge collection of Duran Duran memorabilia. Playing Small Moment Michelle was taking Debate during her Junior Year of College and read the judges’ comments on the ballot while on a trip back home. She saw, in big bold letters, a capital B and a word that rhymes with witch. That moment ended up changing her life. She was scared of speaking up which still plagues her today; Michelle has never shared this story with another audience before. The Wake Up Call Michelle needed to find her voice; she was a blogger and didn’t know how to go about showing her passion in her writing. Michelle attended a conference; the lady at the beginning tricked and duped the whole audience. She was very upset, and while the woman was still speaking, Michelle wrote a rant about “How to Not Be a Motivational Speaker” - it was funny and cutting. Michelle published it the next day and was waiting for the backlash. She received an email from someone telling her she did a great job, and they wanted to hire her as a speaking coach. Michelle had her aha moment, realizing it is OK to have a different perspective than others. Style of Leadership Michelle is very direct in her leadership style and has good vision. She will ask her team what they think, before she goes ahead with implementing a decision, to ensure everyone else is onboard. What Are You Excited About? Michelle is getting ready to launch her 6-week program “The Speaking Distillery”. The goal behind this program is for women who want to get their message out there and get paid. Leadership Practice Meditation makes Michelle feel less reactive. Today we hear some clips on how you can market your business with podcasting, some podcasting pet peeves, and we talk about how to identify and embrace your uniqueness.   Because of My Podcast [1:50] I'm Getting Paid to Podcast on Another Show Jonathan Downham of criticalcarepractitioner.co.uk has four episodes into his own podcast when another company approached him to create a podcast for THEM (and for that he is getting paid).  Dave's Latest Appearances [3:24] Podcasts Roundtable Episode 27 "Pet Peaves II" Online Marketing and Communications with Job Buscall talking how to use Podcasting as a Marketing Tool Engaging Life and Leadership with Darren Dake and Anita Brooks Podcast Review Show now featuring "Podcast Talent Coach" Erik K Johnson Embracing Your Uniqueness [12:53] I've spoken about John Lee Doomis before, and this week we are talking about creating your own style and embracing what YOU bring to the table. Here are some examples in the "Podcasts about podcasting" realm. Ray Ortega has extensive video knowledge, and he produces a podcast for a living. Podcaster's Roundtable is purposely designed to NOT BE a "how to" podcast but instead focus on the issues around podcasting.  Daniel J Lewis has a background in web design and graphic arts. He is very detail oriented. We love to poke fun at Daniel's lists, but those lists are well thought out and create great content. This is why Daniel is the one podcast in the "podcasts about podcasting" world that can see he has WON (not just nominated) a podcast award.  For me, I have been helping people understand technology for over 20 years. I have a teaching background. I bill myself as someone who can help you understand technology without getting into geek speak. I've also been doing this since 2005 (and not many people can say that).  Cliff Ravenscraft has an hour long show that goes outside the scope of podcasting and talks a lot about social media, and what is going on in Cliff's life.  Podcast Help Desk is from Mike Dell. Mike brings his tech support experience to the microphone to identify common problems.  Scott Hertzdog is focusing on podcast gear (and only podcast gear).  Can You start Your Own Niche? What if you are a dental hygienist, and you want to do a podcast about social media. Why not start a podcast about using social media for dentists? Kathy Kelly does the special mouse podcast. Her son has autism so her podcasts focuses on going to Disney Parks with a person who has special needs.  Steph at Capturing Magic takes her love of Disney and Scrapbooking and puts them together.  Some Questions To Think About What are you talking about all the time? That you just can't seem to stop talking about? This is more than likely you passion. What do you bring to the table? You age, perspective, history, experience? What to Do When Someone Steals Your Content  Many bands tried to be the Beatles when they arrived on the scene. If you are being "copied" be flattered. Someone thinks your good enough to steal borrow from. Keep doing what you do well. It comes naturally to you. For someone who is trying to be you it won't come as easy. Remember LOTS of people "podfade" because of the work involved. You find it easy to be you, and it will be a chore for them.
