Send a text we slow down over Matthew 5:9: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.” Jesus isn't blessing peace-lovers or peace-keepers—He's blessing peace-makers: people who do the costly work of moving relationships, communities, and even enemies toward God's shalom (wholeness, justice, and restored right-order). We explore the original language, why this was a radical statement under an empire that claimed “peace” through dominance, and how peacemaking is often cross-shaped: truth without contempt, accountability without revenge, boundaries without hatred. I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Friday morning, 20th February 2026, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.We go straight to the Gospel of Matthew 5:9. Jesus says: “Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God.”Peace (Shalom) - that is actually the name of our farm. It is the hallmark of a follower of Jesus Christ. Now some young people are asking the question, “What does the word 'hallmark' mean?” Well, I looked it up. This is what the literal definition of a hallmark is: It is a mark stamped on articles of gold, silver or platinum by the British assay officers certifying their standard of purity. So when you go into a jeweller's shop, and you want to buy a very special article, you normally turn it upside down, and you will see a hallmark stamped on it to certify that it is pure. Now, the hallmark of a follower of Jesus Christ is peace, and folks, come on let's be honest, where do you ever find peace in these days? Wherever Jesus went, the first thing he would say was “Shalom”, which means peace, the shalom of God be with you. “Blessed are the peacemakers”, the Lord says, “because they shall be called the sons of God”. Not peace-lovers - no, no, no! A peace-lover will do anything to have peace. A peace-maker sometimes has to cause trouble in order to bring peace. Remember before the Lord was betrayed, what did He do? He washed the disciples' feet. Have you ever had your feet washed? I have. It is a very humbling thing. A man came to see me once and he said, “I want to speak to you”, so I went to see him. He was standing outside and he brought out a basin, he brought out a towel, he even brought a container with water in it. He said, “I want to wash your feet, Angus.” I said, ”No, I don't feel worthy, please…” “The Lord has sent me here to wash your feet”. It was a very humbling thing and the peace of God was present with that man. I will never forget it as long as I live. Let us go out today and be a band of feet-washers that tell people and show people the love of God through the peace in our hearts.Jesus bless you and goodbye.

What if you were wiser with relationships? James 3:13-18 13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.  14 But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth.  15 Such "wisdom" does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. 16 For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice. 17 But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. 18 Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness. James 4:1-2 What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don't they come from your desires that battle within you? 2 You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God.    The 5 wisdom literature books of the Bible: Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs Job 2:13 Then they sat on the ground with him for seven days and seven nights. No one said a word to him, because they saw how great his suffering was. Job 13:5  If only you would be altogether silent! For you, that would be wisdom.   Psalm 1:1-3 Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, 2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. 3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—whatever they do prospers.     Proverbs 13:20 Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.   Ecclesiastes 4 Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: 10 If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.   11 Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? 12 Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.   13 Better a poor but wise youth than an old but foolish king who no longer knows how to heed a warning.    Song of Songs 2:7 Daughters of Jerusalem, I charge you by the gazelles and by the does of the field: Do not arouse or awaken love until it so desires.     Proverbs 21:19 Better to live in a desert than with a quarrelsome and nagging wife.   Wisdom for relationships includes peace, priorities, and patience.      What would the wiser you do?
