Scott Carter is our guest on this episode. He is the coordinator of the office for the Beatification of Venerable Fr. Emil Kapaun. Fr. Kapaun is one of the newest deceased persons to be declared Venerable by the late Pope Francis in February 2025, which is a step closer to being declared a saint in the Catholic Church. Fr. Kapaun is best known for his faith-filled and heroic participation in the Korean war. Scott tells us about the young Emil's penchant for being an outdoorsman at a young age and his love for sports while he was in the seminary. Fr. Kapaun was ordained on June 9, 1949, and was assigned to a parish in Kansas. Fr. Kapaun's real calling was to minister to and serve soldiers in the war. He served as a chaplain in World War II and returned to the States when the war ended. In 1949 the Army put out a letter requesting chaplains for the Korean War and Fr. Kapaun told his bishop that he wanted to go. Scott says that Fr. Kapaun had a missionary spirit. There is an iconic picture of Fr. Kapaun celebrating Mass on the hood of a jeep. While in the Korean War, Fr. Kapaun was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor and the Medal of Honor for saving a soldier about to be shot. Eventually Fr. Kapaun was captured and sent to a prison camp. While in the prison camp, Fr. Kapaun did everything he could to help his fellow prisoners maintain their dignity while encouraging those that wanted to give up. While his captors took Fr. Kapaun to his death, he asked forgiveness for any wrong he might have done to any one of them. Throughout his life and at the hour of his death, Fr. Kapaun put his faith into action. Miraculously, Fr. Kapaun's remains were found many years after his death in Korea and were returned to Kansas where he is buried at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Wichita. Scott ends the podcast by recalling a reflection given by Fr. Kapaun on the radio in Tokyo in April of 1950 on the Beatitude found in Matthew 5:9 “Blessed are the peacemakers…” Scott asks anyone who is praying for the intercession of Fr. Kapaun to contact him at the website listed below. For more information about Fr. Kapaun and/or to contact Scott: Venerable Emil J. This week on Bros, Foes & Heroes, we jump into Part 3 of our All-Star Superman deep dive, covering issues 7–9 — and things get wonderfully weird. We talk Bizarro world (and the lonely genius ZiBarro), Superman's DIY rocket escape, bizarre Justice League knock-offs, and what happens when two other Kryptonians show up and decide Earth needs a new management team (spoiler: it doesn't go well). Along the way, we get sidetracked on everything from the Superman movie's perfect “golly” moments to popcorn salt overload, James Gunn's Peacemaker, the future of DC movies, and the tragic downfall of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in our hearts. It's part myth, part Silver Age fever dream, part love letter to Superman — and all chaotic fun. Tune in as we build toward the final chapters of this classic run and gear up for the big Superman movie talk coming Wednesday! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
In this inspiring message, guest speaker Michael Rondon takes a break from the regular series to dive into Matthew 5 and the Sermon on the Mount. Michael explores the Beatitudes, unpacking the eight blessings that Jesus presents as a roadmap to a fulfilled life, emphasizing a desperate dependence on Christ and a heart for Scripture. He challenges the congregation to live as "salt" and "light" in the world—called to be rare, precious, and impactful in Jesus' name, influencing their communities without being diluted by cultural values. Michael encourages believers to embrace kingdom values over worldly virtues, pursue intimacy with God, and return to Matthew 5-7 annually for spiritual renewal.

On June 13th, Israel launched attacks on several military and nuclear facilities in Iran, marking the beginning of a 12-day war between the two countries. The United States followed with targeted strikes on Iranian nuclear sites to prevent Iran from becoming a nuclear power and posing a threat to regional and global stability. China's involvement in the conflict was limited to condemning the Israeli and US use of military force and calling for de-escalation. Beijing offered only rhetorical support for Tehran. To discuss what the Israel-Iran war reveals about China's relationship with Iran, its evolving strategy in the Middle East, and the broader implications for US-China competition, we are joined by Yun Sun on the podcast today. Yun is a Senior Fellow, co-Director of the East Asia Program and Director of the China Program at the Stimson Center. fWotD Episode 2986: Edgar, King of England Welcome to featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia's finest articles. The featured article for Tuesday, 8 July 2025, is Edgar, King of England.Edgar (or Eadgar; c. 944 – 8 July 975), known sometimes as Edgar the Peacemaker or the Peaceable, was King of the English from 959 until his death in 975. He became king of all England on his brother Eadwig's death. He was the younger son of King Edmund I and his first wife, Ælfgifu. A detailed account of Edgar's reign is not possible, because only a few events were recorded by chroniclers and monastic writers, who were more interested in recording the activities of the leaders of the church.Edgar mainly followed the political policies of his predecessors, but there were major changes in the religious sphere. The English Benedictine Reform, which he strongly supported, became a dominant religious and social force. It is seen by historians as a major achievement, and it was accompanied by a literary and artistic flowering, mainly associated with Æthelwold, Bishop of Winchester. Monasteries aggressively acquired estates from lay landowners with Edgar's assistance, leading to disorder when he died and former owners sought to recover their lost property, sometimes by force. Edgar's major administrative reform was the introduction of a standardised coinage in the early 970s to replace the previous decentralised system. He also issued legislative codes which mainly concentrated on improving procedures for enforcement of the law.England had suffered from Viking invasions for over a century when Edgar came to power, but there were none during his reign, which fell in a lull in attacks between the mid-950s and the early 980s. After his death the throne was disputed between the supporters of his two surviving sons; the elder one, Edward the Martyr, was chosen with the support of Dunstan, the Archbishop of Canterbury. Three years later Edward was murdered and succeeded by his younger half-brother, Æthelred the Unready. Later chroniclers presented Edgar's reign as a golden age when England was free from external attacks and internal disorder, especially compared with Æthelred's disastrous rule. Modern historians see Edgar's reign as the pinnacle of Anglo-Saxon culture, but they disagree about his political legacy, and some see the disorders following his death as a natural reaction to his overbearing control. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 01:10 UTC on Tuesday, 8 July 2025.For the full current version of the article, see Edgar, King of England on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm long-form Danielle.
Retaliation isn't something we resist in our own strength, it's something we surrender to Jesus. Brittany Smigielski unpacks the radical call of Matthew 5:38–42, where Jesus confronts our instinct for revenge and invites us into a higher way, the way of peacemaking. Turning the other cheek, giving more than what's asked, walking the second mile are not passive responses. They are powerful acts of love rooted in Heaven's logic. Peacemaking is not weakness, it's courage clothed in grace. IHumility that confronts hurt, generosity that disrupts greed, and service that silences oppression. This is the way of the cross. The way Jesus lived. The way we're called to follow.

How do we handle conflict in a way that honors God, promotes unity, and actually grows us instead of tearing us apart? In a world full of tension, division, and sharp disagreements, this message explores a better way—one modeled in the early church and rooted in Scripture. Through the story of Paul and Barnabas in Acts 15:36–41, we see that even faithful leaders experienced conflict, yet they didn't let it derail the mission. Their disagreement didn't lead to division—it led to multiplication. This sermon challenges us to reimagine conflict resolution within the church, not as something to avoid, but as an opportunity to reflect the heart of Jesus. When handled in a biblical way, conflict can mature us, unify us, and show the world what it means to be peacemakers. In this message, Pastor Nick Tallo will help you discover:Conflict is inevitable—even among believers (Acts 15:36–41)Disagreements don't have to be destructive; they can lead to deeper growth and greater impactWe're called to be peacemakers (Matthew 5:9) and to live at peace as far as it depends on us (Romans 12:18)You'll also hear practical tools for biblical conflict resolution—like pausing to pray, seeking wise counsel, and managing expectations. This isn't just about settling disputes—it's about being transformed. When we engage conflict through the lens of grace and truth, we reflect the heart of the One who first reconciled us to Himself. At 2Rivers, we're all about helping you become a passionate follower of Jesus so you can experience the life He designed for you—and lead others to do the same.

Hi,Chazal note the contrast between the way the people mourned for Aharon, and the way they mourned for Moshe. The main reason given is that Aharon made peace between people in dispute. What does this teach us about the different roles of Moshe and Aharon, and what can we learn from both?Have a good Shabbos

Enjoyed this episode or the podcast in general? Send me a text message:The year was 1950, and in the skies over America flew a true engineering marvel – a magnesium-skinned colossus that dwarfed everything that came before it. Pilots described it as "sitting in a bay window while flying an apartment building," and for good reason.Meet the Convair B-36 "Peacemaker," the largest mass-produced piston-engine aircraft ever built and a true testament to post-war American innovation. Developed when no idea seemed too ambitious, this behemoth featured a unique propulsion system that aviation enthusiasts still marvel at today: six massive 28-cylinder engines turning 19-foot wide propellers in a pusher configuration, complemented by four jet engines – a configuration pilots fondly referred to as "six turning, four burning."What made the B-36 truly remarkable was its unprecedented capabilities. With a wingspan of 230 feet and wings so thick they contained crawl spaces for in-flight maintenance, this bomber could carry 86,000 pounds of conventional or nuclear weapons – equivalent to more than twenty World War II heavy bombers combined. More impressively, it could deliver this payload to targets 12,000 miles away without refueling, making it the perfect Cold War deterrent able to reach Moscow from American soil with plenty of range to spare. The Peacemaker pushed boundaries in ways that seem almost unbelievable today. It carried entire fighter aircraft underneath it as part of the FICON program, transported complete airframes of other bombers, and most astonishingly, flew 47 test missions with an onboard nuclear reactor that required a special "GLOW Squad" ready to parachute and secure the site in case of a crash.Though its operational career lasted just a decade before being replaced by the all-jet B-52, the legacy of this aeronautical giant endures as a symbol of an era when aviation engineers dared to dream impossibly big. Join us as we explore the fascinating story of America's largest bomber – a true bridge between eras that changed the course of Cold War history.Subscribe now to hear more incredible stories from aviation's golden age, and discover why some aircraft become legendary while others fade into history.Support the showTo help support this podcast and become a PilotPhotog ProCast member: https://www.buzzsprout.com/1555784/supportIf you enjoy this episode, subscribe to this podcast, you can find links to most podcast streaming services here: PilotPhotog Podcast (buzzsprout.com) Sign up for the free weekly newsletter Hangar Flyingwith Tog here: https://hangarflyingwithtog.com You can check out my YouTube channel for many videos on fighter planes here: https://youtube.com/c/PilotPhotog If you'd like to support this podcast via Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/PilotPhotog And finally, you can follow me on Twitter here: https://twitter.com/pilotphotog
Today we look at Chapter two of Isaiah, a chapter promoting peace. It contains the famous line, "Then they will beat their swords into iron plows and their spears into pruning tools." Peacemaking is not just between nations. Nations are made up of people. Our pride musr be subdued if we wish to make peace with our neighbors.
The post The Reluctant Peacemaker appeared first on First Baptist Church of Olney.
True peacemaking is a prophetic act, and yet Jesus links peacemakers with persecution and that is to be expected bc they “persecuted the prophets who were before you” Peacemaking is not pacifism. When the United States first entered World War I, the president of Columbia University in New York City sent a questionnaire to the entire faculty asking them what they proposed to do to help with the war effort. One member of the faculty, a pacifist, sent it back with this answer: "Mind my own business." That may be what a pacifist does. But it is not what a peacemaker does. A peacemaker knows that dealing with the conflict is his business. Peacemaking is not a passive characteristic. The language Jesus uses is active; a peacemaker is one who attacks the situation, who confronts it head on.

We are continuing my Pride Month Feature on the show with first time guest Stephanie Williams, who also happens to live in my now home state of North Carolina. RAISE UP! I never pass up a chance to get in a Petey Pablo reference. I'm excited to finally get a chance to pick Stephanie's brain about some of the influences behind her smash comic hit Nubia and the Amazons and how writing in Themyscira is a unique pocket to be able to explore queer narratives at DC. It was recently announced that she will be returning there with Warriors And A Wee Wonder launching in July on DC GO! Also covered in the episode is some fantastic conversation about her book Strange and Unsung All-Stars of the DC Multiverse: A Visual Encyclopedia including a dream opportunity to meet the Peacemaker himself, John Cena, and her fantasy project of developing Justice League Antarctica. Hey, the book includes King Shark so you know I want to talk about it. Stephanie's website Stephanie's newsletter As mentioned in the show, check out the Bitches On Comics podcast. Warriors And A Wee Wonder From the publisher In Warriors and a Wee Wonder by writer Stephanie Williams (Nubia & the Amazons) with art by Jane Pica, Emily Pearson, and Dominic Bustamante, what happens when an island of powerful, immortal Amazons is tasked with…raising a baby?! In this charming slice-of-life comedy, fierce warriors find themselves tactically outmaneuvered by a tiny princess (a.k.a. the future Wonder Woman, Diana) whose emerging magical abilities cause delightful chaos. With meddling Olympian gods watching from above and little Diana causing havoc below, the Amazons devise their greatest battle strategy yet: the Wee Wonder Warriors rotation system. Because on Themyscira, it truly takes an island to raise a child! Today on Uncommon Sense with Ginny Robinson, we're hitting a hot topic: America jumping into the Israel-Iran war. And I'm just going to say it—I don't think we should've gotten involved. I've supported Donald Trump for years, but I think he got this wrong.Israel just said they didn't need us. This was their fight. Then suddenly, we're bombing a nuclear site and opening doors that didn't need to be opened. And of course, anyone who questions it gets labeled a “panican.” But guess what? The “panicans” are starting to look more and more like prophets, because now, sleeper cells are stirring, and American churches are already under attack. We don't need to be scared, we need to be wise. The Bible calls us to test the spirits, stay watchful, and seek peace when we can. (1 John 4:1, Romans 12:18). So let's talk about it honestly. Because loving your country (and even loving your favorite president) doesn't mean checking your discernment at the door and always being a yes-man.--https://policecoffee.com/collections/coffee
In February 2022, Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. China has never condemned the invasion, and its government and media have carefully avoided using term “Ukraine War,” opting instead to refer to the war as the “Ukraine crisis,” the “Russia-Ukraine conflict,” or the “special military operation,” a term that echoes Moscow's language. Beijing's approach to the Ukraine War has included support for Russia, a commitment China's own principles, including respecting Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and a professed desire for peace. This episode's discussion will focus on China's evolving posture toward the war and China's relationship with Ukraine. Joining the podcast this episode is Dr. Vita Golod, who is a Junior Research Fellow at the A. Yu Krymskyi Institute of Oriental Studies, National Academy Sciences of Ukraine, and a Visiting Adjunct Instructor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is also the co-founder of the Ukrainian Platform for Contemporary China and a board member of the Ukrainian Association of Sinologists. No Script, No Mercy, No Spoilers James Gunn says the quiet part out loud about Marvel's mess, Murderbot unravels in episode 6, and we talk Mobland and Flora & Son in our “What We're Watching” segment. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 James Gunn: 9:11 Murderbot: 31:40 What We’re Watching: 41:57 James Gunn Talks Movies Gunn warns the movie industry is “dying” because studios are ditching finished scripts in favor of chasing deadlines. He pointed to Disney's mandate to ramp up Marvel content as destructive: “That wasn't fair…it killed them”. At DC, Gunn enforces a strict “no greenlight without a script” policy — and credits it for successes like Guardians and Peacemaker. His approach: quality over quantity, even if that means fewer, riskier projects. James Gunn Says the ‘Movie Industry Is Dying' Because Films Are Made Without Finished Scripts and Marvel Got ‘Killed' by Output Increase: ‘That Wasn't Fair' https://variety.com/2025/film/news/james-gunn-disney-killed-marvel-output-increase-1236433005/ “Woman Of Tomorrow” Dropped From Supergirl Film Due To James Gunn's Dislike Of Long Titles With Colons https://boundingintocomics.com/movies/movie-news/woman-of-tomorrow-dropped-from-supergirl-film-due-to-james-gunns-dislike-of-long-titles-with-colons/ Full Interview: https://www.rollingstone.com/tv-movies/tv-movie-features/superman-director-james-gunn-dc-studios-interview-1235356450/ Murderbot (AppleTV) Episode 6: “Command Feed” Summary Murderbot and Mensah survived the explosion, but the hopper is damaged, and SecUnit deleted the repair manual in order to make space for a season of The Rise and Fall of Sanctuary Moon. When Mensah is having a panic attack, Murderbot calms her down by showing her an episode of the show. They manage to repair the hopper using neural fibers from Murderbot’s spinal cord. Meanwhile at the habitat, Leebeebee tries to get more information about the results of the Preservation survey. When Gurathin refuses to show her the data, she produces a gun, shoots him in the knee, and threatens rest of the team. She admits that she is not a member of DeltFall, but of the third party. Murderbot returns and kills Leebeebee immediately, which leaves the Preservation team in shock. While it gets repaired, Murderbot muses that the others had assumed that it was becoming like them, and that it actually felt good to execute Leebeebee. Director: Aurora Guerrero Writers: Chris Weitz & Paul Weitz Rating: Out of 5 – Where did LeeBeeBee’s Head Go? Darryl: 3.33/5 (Cause Michigan and Mason Graham) Brian: 3.5/5 What We’re Watching Darryl: Mobland (Paramount+ Season 1) An immersive crime saga portraying a mother-son duo navigating Harlem's underworld in the 1970s.
