The focal point of today's discourse revolves around the Enneagram Type Five, characterized by their profound inclination towards detachment and observation as a means of navigating an overwhelmingly stimulating world. We delve into the complexities inherent in the Five's experience, particularly emphasizing their heightened sensitivity, which often compels them to create emotional distance from their surroundings. Throughout our dialogue, various participants elucidate the nuances of the Five's emotional landscape, shedding light on the intricate interplay between intellect and feeling that defines their existence. Additionally, we reflect upon the common misconceptions surrounding Fives, particularly the notion that they are devoid of emotion, highlighting instead their rich internal life and the necessity for connection. As we progress, we invite listeners to consider how understanding Type Five can foster deeper empathy and insight into their own experiences and those of others.HUMAN INTERVIEW: Melissa KircherWebsiteInstagramTwitterTicktokThe Enneagram InstituteType 5Awareness to ActionType 5The Narrative EnneagramType 5Awareness to ActionEnneagram on Demand - Certification ProgramMario Sikora: IG: @mariosikoraTikTok: @mariosikoraWeb: mariosikora.comSubstack: mariosikora.substack.comMaria Jose Munita: IG: @mjmunitaWeb: mjmunita.comPodcasts:Awareness to Action Enneagram in a MovieThe Narrative TraditionTerry Saracino:Web: https://www.narrativeenneagram.org/team/terry-saracino/Christopher Copeland:Web: illuminatingpaths.comNarrative Podcasts:Heart of the...
In this episode of the Awareness to Action Enneagram podcast, Mario Sikora, María José Munita and Seth “Creek” Creekmore talk about coaching Enneagram Type Five. This type—“Striving to Feel Detached”—tends to manage interactions with people strategically and proactively by building a wall as a way to defend themselves. They are also known to say what they think which can be difficult for people to read if they're not used to it. Mario and MJ discuss their approach in addressing this type's challenges and blind spots, such as not saying what's on their mind, and why they enjoy helping them articulate how they see things without overdoing it.“What does mark them is this need to engage with the world through a feeling of detachment, which sounds contradictory, but they're trying to create their way of coping with the world. Their way of interacting is through creating an emotional or an emotion-free buffer between themselves and the world, so they can step back and kind of protect themselves.” -Mario [13:11]“They want to know more so that they can understand things and not feel overwhelmed. It's like feeling overwhelmed, it's something they want to avoid. And they're very sensitive. So when you think that they're not feeling, it's usually that it's a way to defend themselves, because they're so sensitive that they need to build a wall.” -María José [21:45]“I will admit that the Five is a bit of a blind spot for me, still trying to find the edges of it, and so like for that, for instance, how do you determine what's transmitting and what's that just the Five found their area of expertise and they're going. How do you turn those dials? ‘Cause mistyping between Five and Seven happens a lot.” -Creek [29:39]TIMESTAMPS[00:01] Intro[02:21] This week's adjective[07:55] Experience in coaching Fives[12:03] Striving to Feel Detached[18:33] The coping mechanism is to detached[23:28] Attachment theory[27:25] Common problems[32:44] Pulling the wings off of a fly[35:20] Other issues[39:27] Defining detachment[42:06] Get your hands dirty metaphorically[48:13] Typical assignment to a Five[55:20] OutroConnect with us:Awareness to ActionEnneagram on DemandIG: @ataenneagrampodEmail: info@awarenesstoaction.comSend a voice message: speakpipe.com/AwarenesstoActionMario Sikora: IG: @mariosikoraTikTok: @mariosikoraWeb: mariosikora.comPod: Enneagram in a MovieSubstack: mariosikora.substack.comMaria Jose Munita: IG: @mjmunitaWeb: mjmunita.comSeth "Creek" Creekmore: IG:

WHAT'S IT LIKE TO BE AN INVESTIGATOR? "They're often people with very good boundaries between home and work, but sometimes this can show itself in a space of avoidance. So they'll be people who are extremely boundaried, you know where you stand with them, which is a great thing, but that can go too far... actually they've put all of these walls and boundaries up in their life and sometimes that can lead to them just feeling alone and isolated..." Hey ladies, welcome back to our podcast! Today, we're diving into a fascinating topic: how your Enneagram personality type can impact your business. If you're not familiar, the Enneagram is a personality typing system that describes nine interconnected personality types. Each type has its own set of motivations, fears, and behaviors that can greatly influence how we approach our work and business ventures. For example, Type Ones, known as "The Perfectionists," are driven by a desire to do things right and improve the world around them. In business, they might excel at creating high-quality products or services but might struggle with delegating tasks due to their high standards. On the other hand, Type Threes, "The Achievers," are goal-oriented and driven by success. They can be great at networking and promoting their business but may need to be mindful of burnout due to their relentless pursuit of success. Understanding your Enneagram type can give you valuable insights into your strengths and weaknesses as a business owner. It can help you identify areas where you excel and areas where you might need to seek support or make adjustments. Additionally, knowing the Enneagram types of your team members or business partners can improve communication and collaboration. By understanding their motivations and communication styles, you can build a more cohesive and effective team. So, whether you're a Type Two looking to balance your nurturing tendencies with self-care or a Type Five seeking to share your knowledge without withdrawing, the Enneagram can be a powerful tool for personal and professional growth in your business journey. Thanks for tuning in, and remember, understanding yourself is the first step to building a successful business. See you next time!
In this Enneagram and Coffee podcast episode, I explore the relationship dynamics between Enneagram Type One and Type Five. I discuss how both types, being competency-focused, might prioritize logic over emotions, potentially leading to challenges. I identify specific triggers for each type and advise on how they can positively influence one another. I stress the need for both types to attend to their emotional well-being to prevent issues from arising indirectly. The episode provides insights into fostering a balanced, intimate relationship between these two personality types. -- Notion Templates here - www.sarajanecase.com/shop Call/text your enneagram questions to (828) 338-9127 Grab a copy of my books at www.thehonestenneagram.com & www.theenneagramletters.com Check out my YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/sarajanecase Learn more about your ad choices. In this episode of the Enneagram and Coffee podcast, I delve into the concept of the inner child in Enneagram Type Seven, also known as the soul child, which happens to be Type Five. As a Type Seven myself, I share my personal experiences and reflections, shedding light on the patterns of isolation I experienced during my childhood and how I used various strategies to hide my inner sense of scarcity. Throughout the episode, I offer practical steps that can assist Type Sevens in connecting with their inner Type Five. These steps revolve around recognizing our consumption habits, setting healthy boundaries, and simplifying our lives. By acknowledging and addressing these aspects, we can begin to bridge the gap between our Type Seven tendencies and our inner Type Five. -- Thank you to this week's podcast sponsor: Get started with EveryPlate for just $1.49 per meal by going to EveryPlate.com/podcast and entering code egram49. In this episode of the Awareness to Action Enneagram podcast, Mario Sikora, María José Munita and Seth "Creek" Creekmore return to their previous series on the Enneagram subtypes and talk about the subtypes for Type Five, “Striving to Feel Detached.” Type Fives are typically misread as insensitive and the hosts discuss why that is and how self-protection drives their sensitivity.“There's this myth that they're insensitive. They don't feel, but the truth is that they feel overwhelmed more easily. They can be more sensitive to stimulation. They can be more sensitive to environmental impacts, and therefore, they have to create this buffer. So a lot of what looks like stinginess or holding on to myself is kind of self-protection.” -Mario [07:46]“Having routines and regular schedules is also a way to minimize that use of their energy and a way to detach.” -María José [14:58]“Feels like there's a natural inner conflict about transmitting in general for a Five.” -Creek [24:48] TIMESTAMPS[00:01] Intro[01:08] Common misunderstandings[06:09] What's different from a Five's perspective[11:45] The Preserving Five[22:19] The Navigating Five[29:59] The Transmitting Five[37:39] OutroConnect with us:Awareness to ActionEnneagram on DemandIG: @ataenneagrampodMario Sikora: IG: @mariosikoraWeb: mariosikora.comPod: Enneagram in a MovieMaria Jose Munita: IG: @mjmunitaWeb: mjmunita.comSeth "Creek" Creekmore: IG: @_creekmorePod: Fathoms | An Enneagram PodcastPod: Delusional Optimism

In this episode, Kelsey Taylor interviews Enneagram Fives, Kyle Smith and Candace Williams on their wings. In the context of the Enneagram, your wings are the two numbers directly adjacent to your primary Type. The 5w4 is known as the “Iconoclast” or an innovator and these two combinations have a unique relationship. The Five prefers to rely on logic, while the Four finds truth through their emotions, however both have a tendency to isolate themselves. The 5w6 is known as the “Problem Solver” and this union is often in conflict with one another.. The independent Five prefers to find security through isolation, research, and information, while the dependent Six finds security through external support. The name of this strategy, “Striving to Feel Detached,” typically gets pushback for its perceived negative connotation, but detachment is a required element of existence. Sali explains the role being a Type Five plays into her life and shares why a yucky truth is better than a sweet lie.“It's only negative when it's being done in a maladaptive way, but the reality is that life requires emotional detachment for all of us.” -Mario [09:28]“It's not like I'm indifferent, but it's that I'm just approaching it as this is the situation and we're going to figure this out.” -Sali [15:05]“I've seen Fives use that ‘Striving to Feel Powerful' by using their knowledge to eviscerate people.” -Creek [28:01]“I couldn't help thinking about this information and how it may look different for different subtypes of the Five. In this episode, Mario Sikora, TJ Dawe and TJ Ingrassia are joined by special guests, Clay Tumey, author of “The Blue Chip Store: How Bank Robbery Changed My Life,” and Susan Olesek, founder of Enneagram Prison Project. The panel of five discuss the 1994 drama, “The Shawshank Redemption,” starring Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins. With the film set in a prison, Clay draws from his experience in prison while Susan explores her work with incarcerated people and the Enneagram to not only look at the movie about a man who is wrongfully accused of murder, but to also examine it as a story of a person who's trapped in a personality.“I also thought that with this character captured better than almost anything I've seen about the Fives is the tenderness at the heart of the Type Five. This sweetness, this kindness that most people don't get to see because what they see is the detached piece.” - Mario Sikora [35:36]“There's so much generosity in the Five, and I love that you're highlighting it because I think that's why we love the Five so much.” - Susan Olesek [38:21]“I just didn't buy it from him in terms of feeling like he really meant it. It almost felt like he was more using that as a cover to just have power over people. But that could speak to his unhealthier… That's a way an unhealthy one would use some of that is they don't really believe it for themselves. The thing that I appreciate is I never have to wonder, almost never have to wonder where I stand with the Type Eight.” - Clay Tumey [1:08:07]“That got me thinking, this movie works as a metaphor for being in any life situation that you believe you're stuck in, and there's a better life somewhere on the horizon. In this episode, Mario Sikora, TJ Dawe and TJ Ingrassia discuss the 1987 film, “The Princess Bride,” and reveal how easy it can be to look at a film and interpret it differently. The hosts examine the Enneagram Types for each character, at times not agreeing. Is Iñigo Montoya a Type Three or Type Four? What Enneagram Type do they see for Wallace Shawn's Vizzini? Why was Andre the Giant's character, Fezzik, the perfect Type Nine? Listen as the hosts share their thoughts on these and other characters.“I thought Count Rugen was maybe the one of the best Fives I've ever seen in a movie. Talk about detached.” - TJ Dawe [29:18]“The Navigating One, I think, is a subtype that's often misunderstood. Other people call this the Social One, and people have a tendency to think the so-called Social One is a reformer. Somebody who wants to change the world. That's not what's going on here.” - Mario Sikora [33:24]“If I had a thousand years with this movie, I never would have guessed One. We open the Head Triad portion of our Enneagram ConvoCast series with YOBcast regular, Will! Will shares his motivations, fears, stress, and security as a Type Five (the Investigator or Intellectualist). As a member of our YOB community, how does his Five-ness manifest in the realms of sexuality, masculinity, and relating with other men? Fives are heady types, supreme thinkers and philosophers, as Will confirms his "endless curiosity" for books and learning, and returning to school whenever he hits an existential crisis. Enneagram expert Ian Cron describes Fives as the most misunderstood type, people with emotions beneath their intellectual exterior, and Will confirms his journey with processing difficult emotions. He shares the appeal of intellectual attraction versus physical attraction for the Five, and he explains how his problem-solving nature wanted to "fix" his "gay problem" in adolescence. During stress Will admits getting disorganized and clingy, but during security he's passionate about strengthening the people around him -- where, as a pastor, his Five-ness particularly shines. During times of doubt and questions, Will returns to the Gospels and his love for how Jesus makes sense of this world. Listen to our full Enneagram conversation, and be sure to follow us these last few weeks as we finish dialing around the Enneagram with the remaining types in our community! Mario and TJ continue their discussion on the films of David Fincher to explore Enneagram Type 5, “Striving to Feel Detached.” They discuss the films, “The Social Network” and “Girl with a Dragon Tattoo” and how the main characters in these movies portray Type Five characteristics. “A lot of navigating themes in there, which is really interesting and ironic given that Zuckerberg is presented as this guy with no social grace whatsoever. But he's not unaware of how people's feelings work, of social status, he uses that. He just wears this mask of ‘It doesn't affect me. In this series on paths, we take a deeper look at each enneagram type by discovering how our dominant type is connected to these whole other sides of our personality through the arrow lines of the enneagram. Traditionally called “stress path” and “growth path,” Jessica teaches a different way of looking at the paths as a dynamic part of our personality that we take both positive and negative characteristics from on a day to day basis, but can lean into and grow through in seasons.
I share the coaching space with an Enneagram Five and together we explore the orientation to the strong inner world that's a significant element in the Type Five structure. We consider the energy expelled in the mental to-do list that's consistently shifting based on the remaining energy & time for the day. We also explore the sensation of being snapped back into reality when someone abruptly interrupts our thoughts & pulls us out of that internal world. And we also consider the invitation to connect with our kiddos in parenting from a heart space rather than a mental problem solving space. I hope you'll listen in with curiosity & see what resonates in your experience. Individual Coaching: Interested in Enneagram coaching? I share the coaching space with an Enneagram Four that desires to show up well in conversations with her Type Five partner. We explore the feelings of shame that can exacerbate these moments & how we might move out of the heart space into a more embodied approach to processing emotions. We also took a look at the dynamic of Type Four & Type Fives withdrawing and how they can communicate that need well to each other. We also touched on the moment of Type Four to Type Two in seasons of stress. The Type Four in the coaching space for this episode is someone I formerly supervised years ago now, so it was such a gift to be back into a one-on-one space with her again. I hope you'll listen in with curiosity and see what resonates in your experience. Individual Coaching: Interested in Enneagram coaching? Timestamps:12:11 I hear from parents all the time, my kid goes in their room and they don't come out. And I'm worried about them. Well, for some kids that might be a major sign of depression, but a five - that's their normal habitat. That's where they wanna be. They wanna be there. They would like to be in there by themselves. That was a recharge place for them because their core belief is it's essential to conserve personal resources in a world that often demands more or supplies too little.16:16 Fives - Their strength is they're tremendously observant, logical. They're perceptive, knowledgeable, reasonable, curious, reflective they're many times experts. They like to be experts analytical and synthetic. That means they can put all these different ideas together and come up with new unique ideas. They're self reliant pondering, and they have a very dry wit and fast on their feet.31:11 With all the types, we tend to project whatever our type is. However, we see the world from our little goldfish view. We think that everybody else sees at the same and it's always a shock to find out they don't. They may not be actual detectives, but type fives are known as investigators. In this episode, I discuss all the basics of type five, the deadly sin of avarice, how they deal with fear, and how fives can take control of their greed. The Passion for For type 1s is ANGER. Type 1s are often called the Reformers and hold themselves to very high standards which is a good quality, right? SO…the deceitfulness of the passions is that it seems GOOD to be conscientious and ethical, with a strong sense of right and wrong. And being ANGRY goes against what seems to be GOOD. So they resist being angry. And when others don’t seem to hold the same standards of goodness then that anger that they resist builds. But 1s are even harder on themselves so that anger turns inward so often if they believe they haven’t lived up to their own standards. The relentless demand of the inner critic to be good and do good at all times and to set the standard for what is good, replaces personal needs and shuts down feelings which, if left unaddressed will come out in the form of resentment. Type 2s…The Passion is Pride …..This seems so opposite of what we see in type 2s who are so giving of their love, their time, knowing what everyone else needs. In fact, they are so focused on others that they take PRIDE in seeming to not have needs of their own. THEY see themselves as THE SOURCE of what others need. It seems GOOD to be so servant-hearted but when they resist acknowledging they have needs, having denied their own in service to others, they are actually denying others the gift of service. For type 3s the passion is Self-deceit or conforming to what they think is necessary to be SEEN as successful or WORTHY. 3s are often called “Shape shifters” because they will take on the role of what they think OTHERS want them to be. It seems GOOD to be success-driven and even GOOD to be adaptable but they resist resting in their authenticity and resist knowing they are fully loved apart from any external success. The passion of type 4 is Envy but this envy is a internal sense of a lack of being whole…like something about themselves is inherently missing. They tend to believe everyone else has that missing thing. They long for authenticity which leads to the desire to be unique because they actually believe they ARE unique because others have what they believe they are missing. 4s are SO in touch with this FEELING of deficiency that they seek value in an idealized external experiences or work or a relationship. It seems GOOD to BE AUTHENTIC and not conform but they resist knowing there’s nothing missing because they are so identified with that image. It becomes a never ending loop if left in an unhealthy stage. Type 5’s passion is AVARICE but in Enneagram language it is not a desire for obtaining money or possessions but of resources .They retreat inward and hoard their time and energy. This inward focus allows the Type Five ample time to focus on ideas and acquiring knowledge. That doesn’t seem like a negative thing, right? I mean…isn’t it GOOD to know what you’re talking about - to gain knowledge and to not just throw your time and energy away? It can be good for sure. BUT…they worry that if they share too much of themselves, they won’t have enough left. SO…in resisting connection by retreating inward, but it also builds a wall between them and others. As they pull back from external connections, they also become detached from their emotional self. The passion for type 6 is FEAR. They are sometimes referred to as THE LOYALISTS - great people to have on your team, right? Type 6s are so great at anticipating what could go wrong. They look for where danger could be lurking or what problems MIGHT occur at any time. We NEED these people who are cautious and security-oriented. If I’m going on a wilderness trek that’s who I want to go with! But they can become so focused on what could go WRONG that they become suspicious and filled with self-doubt. So what seems GOOD can be paralyzing. For Type 7s the passion is Gluttony. In this context it’s a almost insatiable craving to experience ALL THE THINGS. 7s see the positive in most things and are typically focused on being joyful and happy. 7s deepest fear is being trapped in emotional pain so they try to avoid anything that causes pain or sadness. In fact, they see their worth is in BEING the positive person. It seems GOOD to look for the positive, to be Joyful, to NOT dwell in pain. And so....they resist what is actually before them in the present and deny that they experience pain. This also makes them emotionally unavailable to anyone else who might need them in time of grief. And what happens? They disconnect from their heart and my body, rationalize away the pain and escape to a place in the future where there is no sadness. But that place doesn’t actually exist and instead of feeling FULL of all aspects of life, they are left feeling a hunger and emptiness through what appeared to be GOOD. Type 8s passion is called LUST which isn’t just about sexuality although it can include it. 8s have a desire for INTENSITY in whatever they do. They take the initiative and make things happen! They see the world as unjust and power imbalanced. So they feel they need to dominate so they are not controlled. They are the most assertive type in the enneagram. 8s want to be self-reliant, to prove their strength and resist weakness, to be important in their world. 8s are often referred to as THE PROTECTOR. They are often champions for the underdog. That sounds SO GOOD! But in their attempt to control and NOT BE controlled they lose touch with vulnerability. They can see it as weakness and so they resist letting their feelings be seen. Make no mistake, though…8s are very feeling people but keep up the powerful façade so they won’t be hurt. Type 9’s passion is called Sloth. So…what does ‘sloth’ mean in Enneagram language? It is sense of inertia to YOURSELF….a falling asleep to your OWN passions, abilities, desires, needs, and worth by merging with others. Why have type 9s been called the PEACEMAKERS? Because they strive to maintain peace both internally and externally. So, this means avoiding conflict at all costs! You will often read about type 9s’ desire for Peace and Harmony like they are one and the same. But they are not. I think that 9s - like all of us, actually, would love to live in HARMONY with the world but we settle for NO-CONFLICT. The tendency is to GO ALONG with others to avoid not having peace. So - where is the deceitfulness of Good here? Type 9s often make great mediators because they have an ability to see all sides of a situation. How great is that? They generally have a calming effect on people, they are usually non-judgmental, easy going. But, as we have quoted throughout this series, “what you resist not only persists, but grows stronger.” When you resist your own needs to accommodate others’ it will result in unhealthy relationships - maybe even a codependent relationship. Avoiding conflict with others keeps Nines from being fully present in relationships. Avoiding internal conflict leads to inertia and self-forgetting. When so much of their focus is on other’s then there isn’t a lot of energy to take care of your own. 9s can become passive-aggressive and resentment builds because they have so much to contribute to the world but taking on the role of THE PEACEMAKER keeps them from taking action on their own desires. Once again…this is the loop that we all get in when we don’t acknowledge our suffering. We are deceived into believing our GOOD WORKS will equal being LOVED. #Enneagram #EnneagramPassions #DeceitfulnessOfGood #SelfDeceit #Enneagram1 #Enneagram2 #Enneagram3 #Enneagram4 #Enneagram5 #Enneagram6 #Enneagram7 #Enneagram8 #Enneagram9

The Enneagram is an ancient knowledge system paired with modern-day psychology to describe nine distinct personality types. I'm on a mission to discover what the Modern Enneagram can tell Modern Marketing about the personality of your one, perfect customer. My next guest in this series is one of my Instagram Challenge Group members, Kate Boyd. Kate is an Enneagram Type Five. All Ennegram personality types struggle with at least some imbalance between their Mind, Heart and Gut knowing and processing. Getting into and staying consistently in balance - in ‘Harmony' - with those three intelligence centers is a lifelong journey. For ennea-type Fives their unconscious habit of “hoarding” is a major deterrent to being centered and harmonious. On today's podcast, listen in as an ennea-type Five describes how the past year of Covid-19 shutdown surprisingly impacted his journey in that area.
Jenn Whitmer, Enneagram coach is back again to share more about the enneagram heart triad today. If you missed the first episode, find it here and episode two is here. Today it's our heart triad -- enneagram types five, six and seven. Type Five -- the thinkers and observers. They are the ones who will walk you through every graph and table. They are thorough. For the fives it's important to remember that not everyone has done the amount of research as you. So as you prepare to speak, be ready to give a bit of the backstory but don't overwhelm your audience with details. Type Six -- the loyal guardian. Sixes are always ready. And they use self-deprecating humor to connect to the audience. As a speaker who is a type Six, remember to have confidence in your calling, More than any other number, Sixes can struggle in this area. Type Seven - the enthusiast. This is the life of the party speaker. Sevens are natural communicators but the challenge for this type is they are more spontaneous and can struggle with rehearsal. So there we have it -- the three part series on the enneagram and your speaking style. S1E13: Part Two of our conversation with Special Guest Russ Hudson about “Contact,” and Ennea-Type Five, Striving to Feel Detached. We continue our conversation with Russ about the movie and then discuss the importance of critical thinking to the development of discernment on one's path for personal and spiritual growth.
S1E12: Special Guest Russ Hudson, “Contact,” and Ennea-Type Five, Striving to Feel Detached. (The first of two parts.) How do we maintain the clarity-providing space between ourselves and the emotional messiness of life without losing contact? This is the question Fives wrestle with, and it is the question at the heart of “Contact,” the 1997 movie starring Jodie Foster and Matthew McConaughey. Foster's “Ellie Arroway” is a scientist desperate to make contact with beings from space while struggling to connect with those around her. Russ Hudson, the preeminent Enneagram teacher of our time (and an Ennea-type Five himself), joins Mario, Maria Jose, and Tamer for this wide-ranging conversation that explores how “Contact” clearly depicts the themes of the Five, as well as the futility of seeing a conflict between religion and science and how true spirituality combines the need for critical thinking with a search for the numinous. Oh, and, of course, we discuss why zombie movies matter…
How does your Enneagram type handle conflict? Where does your type get stuck in conflict? What do you need to know about your Enneagram type when you find yourself in conflict? In this interview, speaker, writer, and Enneagram Coach Jenn Whitmer breaks down conflict and the Enneagram, going type-by-type about where each Enneagram type struggles, shines, and what would serve us well to remember. She tells us: what each Enneagram brings to the table in conflict where each type struggles and how each type can practically handle conflict and hard conversations better. Jenn reframes conflict as an opportunity and reminds us it’s really a heart posture of humility and community so we can tackle the issue out there. It takes a lot of strength and trust to expose your heart, but it’s what connects you to people.” - Jenn Whitmer “It’s a paradox of life that we are all doing the best we can, but everybody can do better.” - Jenn Whitmer “Avoiding conflict usually creates more.” - Jenn Whitmer “Conflict is not failure. Conflict is a problem-solving opportunity.” - Jenn Whitmer “You are safe to have needs.” - Jenn Whitmer “Conflict is an opportunity, not a threat.” - Jenn Whitmer “Conflict resolution is a posture of, ‘It’s the two of us together against the problem out there.’” - Jenn Whitmer Mentioned in the Podcast The FCC requires that I tell you that I'm an Amazon Affiliate, which means I earn a bit of commission on each sale. Link to bioRxiv paper: http://biorxiv.org/cgi/content/short/2020.11.14.382739v1?rss=1 Authors: Ali Hassan, A., Ibrahim, M. E. Abstract: Chemokines are small transmembrane proteins with immune surveillance and immune cell recruitment functions. the expression of CCR5 gene affects virus production and viral load(1). The CCR5 gene contains two introns, three exons, and two promoters, and it is necessary as a co-receptor for the entry of the macrophage-tropic HIV strains. Mutations in the coding region of CCR5 affect the protein structure, which will affect production, chemokine binding, transport, signaling and expression of the CCR5 receptor. SNPs within CCR5 gene were retrieved from ensemble database. Coding SNPs were analyzed using SNPnexus. Coding non-synonymous SNPs in CCR5 binding domains with Viral gp120 were analyzed using SIFT, PolyPhen and I-mutant tools. Project HOPE then used to modelled the 3D structure of the protein resulting from these SNPs. Non-coding SNPs that affects miRNAs in 3' rejoin were analyzing using PolymiRTS. SNPs that affect transcription factor binding were analyzed using regulomeDB. (178) non-synonyms missense SNPs were found to have deleterious and damaging effect on the structure and function of the protein. In CCR5 binding domains with Viral gp120: 3 SNPs rs145061115, rs199824195 and rs201797884 were found to affect both structure and function and stability of chemokine protein. The 2 SNPs rs185691679 and rs199722070 has a role in disruption and creation of the target sites in miRNA seeds due to their high conservation score. Mutations in CCR5 gene may explain and represent the molecular basis of the resistance to HIV infection. Copy rights belong to original authors. Visit the link for more info

The Five: The Investigator It’s another episode of our EnneaTalk Tuesday series, and this week it’s all about the five—the Investigator. The fives are the most introverted type on the Enneagram and are analytical data collectors. If you lead, love, learn, or laugh with a five, I break down everything you need to know on how to communicate, support, and understand them. Listen to this episode to hear what you can learn from the fives, their core motivations, how to recognize where they go in stress, speak their language, and bring out the best in them. Listen now The driving force of a Five The Investigator is known for their analytical brains, dry sense of humor, being highly perceptive, intuitive, and wise. They are the first in our series that fall into the head triad, which is why they are driven by thought and data. They are competent, self-sufficient, and always calculate their level of energy to avoid being depleted—a characteristic that can seem avoidant but in reality, is them taking the space they need to replenish and assess. Speaking the five’s language I discuss how to understand the fives language, what their underlying fear is, and how they manage it by retaining and seeking information. They value deep conversations and are fiercely loyal to those they trust. I discuss the leading style of a five, how to lead a five, and their preferences for working alone without intrusion. I share their characteristics when under stress, how to recognize them, and support them, especially if you are loving a five. I share their superpowers, how to learn from them, and why having a five in your corner is one of the best gifts you can have.Quote:“The 5 falls into the head triad, meaning they make most of their decisions by thoughts.” 1:20“5’s are hoarders of information and their own personal energy.” 2:45“If you are in relation with a 5, know that they enjoy thoughtful conversation.” 4:42“A 5 when they are under stress, they take on the average to unhealthy parts of the 7.” 7:04“5’s are comfortable with a partner who is independent and doesn’t need them.” 9:51“When an Enneagram Type 5 speaks up and offers their advice, it’s important.” 12:11“5’s prefer to take space to think before engaging in conflict, so if you’re trying to fight with a 5, they might get quiet or isolate themselves to find space to think things through.” 16:24“Most 5’s have felt like misfits in the world, so it can be validating to feel that you want to hear what they think and feel.” 21:46“People who lead with a type 5 style, automatically attend to their strong needs for time and space so they have room to think.” 24:02“The core characteristics of a 5 leader are the ability to access and assess information very skillfully and with a lot of interest, they’re super objective.” 26:47“They’re the content kings and queens, especially on subjects they know.” 33:54
Join us on a journey into the depths of the Enneagram 5 mind on today's conversation about The Observer. Co-host, Kellie, and contributor, Lala, provide insight on what it's like to take up residence in the thinking center. The Observer, or Investigator, needs to perceive. They are objective, rational, and have a lust for acquiring knowledge. They fear being incompetent and avoid depending on others. Fives can withdraw from social interaction and often escape to their minds. In relationships, they can seem detached and are often mis-understood due to their analytical nature. It takes a lot of energy (that they so desperately try to conserve) to get in touch with their feelings. Healthy Fives are calm in a crisis, capable of true neutrality in a conflict, and are fantastic confidants.Just in case you may have missed some of our other discussions or want to refresh your memory, check out this list of episodes: The Enneagram (overview)Enneagram and Relationships (w/ Sarajane Case)Becoming Your Own Guru e-course audio files (Patreon)Prefer to read? The best self-care practices for enneagram type five is explained inside. It's a subject I'm delighted to talk with an actual type five on what this looks like in life. Self-care is a subject that I've thought long and hard about. Similar to the body positivity movement - it's one that has a lot of good and bad. But if we go back to the original definition of the word, then I think we can start to understand that self-care is not just another series of benchmarks and checkmarks, but it's a filling from abundance. Of knowing where you are and loving yourself for being there. Yet willing to take the necessary action to fill that self up. Whether through nourishing foods, bubble baths, or anything in between. Self-care is what you need and providing that when you need it - even if it is just a morning of extra sleep. So maybe all of that to say, we don't have to practice self-care but rather make self-care a part of who we are — living self-aware. The Ennea-health series was born from this. A place of actual knowledge to take action, creating a healthier life that is who you are not what you do. Today we continue digging into the Enneagram type five through an interview with an online friend. Today I talk with Cassidy Tyler about her health journey how she has learned to use her strengths to overcome her health hurdles. Want to get healthier? Let your enneagram number be your guide. Inside I teach enneagram type five how to use their type for health. Getting outside of standard health benchmarks and learning how to live in health rather than for it! Enneagram type five, you value understanding. Your a deep thinker and value time spent processing the world around you. You thrive on self-sufficiency, independence, and alone time - collecting thoughts, ideas, knowledge, silence, and space. You pour your soul and energy into your thoughts. As a five, you build your identity in your mind. Working to find stability and security in life through collecting or hoarding what it is that you think will keep you secure. In this, you generally live a minimalistic life, with relatively few needs and the stamina to provide for yourself. You are often suppressing your deep emotions, stirring them over in your mind for days before you’re able to articulate them. But as you work to get healthy, you’ll learn how to feel the emotion when it comes and then let it go. Through this, you’ll develop courage outside of collecting knowledge, allowing you to take action and trust your gut. In health, you’ll be able to connect with your body and recognize that you, too, are a human, and your needs are valid. Inside this episode, we talk about how an enneagram five can live in health, all while honoring the space and security they crave. We've also created a free download for teaching you how to make health who you are through your enneagram number. Download the guide, print it off, and see how much it resonates with your life.
