#fentanyl #opioids #ccp In Episode 231, I invited Andrea Thomas, mother of Ashley who died of fentanyl poisoning, creator of Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day, each August 21st and of Facing Fentanyl to join me once again. We discuss the findings of the China Select Committee on April 16th in the House of Representatives in DC and share the confirmation that the CCP is intentionally manufacturing fentanyl and shipping it through Mexico into the US killing 76,000 of our children in 2022.For perspective, according to National Archives, between 1955-1975, over 58,220 men and women were killed in the Vietnam War - a 20 year period.According to the FBI Crime Data Explorer, in 2022 covering 75% of the US population, 15,047 homicides were recorded by law enforcement agencies. It is estimated that in 2023 more than 100,000 young people in the US were killed by fentanyl in counterfeit pills or added to marijuana, cocaine, heroin, and other drugs with either partial or complete fentanyl. Pills that resemble Xanax, Oxycotin, Adderall, Percocet and others are killing our young people within minutes because all these are counterfeit pills and that person has no idea what is in them. Please, please educate yourself and your family. More than 500,000 in the United States are dependent on heroin."John Watson was seventeen when his best friend was in an accident and given Oxycotin for the pain. Deion Sanders got a massive win in his first game as the head coach of the Colorado Buffalo's over TCU this weekend, but instead of making it about the kids and him proving the doubters wrong he made it about his blackness. The got it's newest super hero / viral sensation over the weekend as the #RomperStomper incident at a Morgan Wallen concert in Pittsburg went viral. Hosts Dr. Terry Sellers & Jared Miller (CASUDC), discuss a news article published on tabletmag.com on August 30th, 2022 titled "How Weed Became the New Oxycotin". This article addresses the similarities between the fairly new movement of "Medical marijuana" to the past booms of big tobacco & big pharma. Similarly to how big tobacco was marketed to teens & young adults, as well as how Purdue Pharma marketed Oxycotin as "non-addictive", we see the current boom of the marijuana industry using the term "medical" to market to consumers (there is no distinction inside cannabis dispensaries). Host Jared Miller acknowledges that more research needs to be done & points out the undeniable benefits of CBD properties vs the psychoactive effects of THC properties. The hosts are aware this is a heavily debated/controversial topic & do their best to approach it from the context of the news article. Regardless of where you stand on the use of marijuana, this is a very informational podcast episode, we hope you enjoy it!

When an Angel Whispers     Over the last few weeks, I have been having an existential crisis. Do I want to continue my work as a divorce lawyer? Or do I hand in my license to practice law and close the doors of my successful law firm? The work we do as divorce lawyers is tough. Really tough. This work can be nothing short of punishing. I think of a 19-day Supreme Court trial I did. It was and I am sure remains a very high-conflict matter. Yes, both the parties, in that case, are assholes. Had I known my client was such an asshole, I never would have taken on the case. I worked my butt off for that case, it consuming weeks of my life. The point is that this matter could have been resolved in a mediation/arbitration setting within a few days. It would have saved the parties days and days of their lives (not to mention their lawyers the same) and countless thousands of dollars. Neither party involved in that fight is ever going to recover financially, and their children will continue to be stuck in the middle of their parents' toxic relationship. I have another case where one of the lawyers on the case said that I was grilled so hard by the Judge that I had “Grill marks” on my face. I have had a client murder his wife, child and parents-in-law before committing suicide himself. I woke up at 2:04 am on the dot for many months. It was the exact time the police said that my client broke into the residence of his sleeping wife, and child. When I represent clients, I put my whole heart and soul into it. I mean every bit of me. Although it is hard work, I pride myself on doing the right thing for families and their children, even if it means taking on that very hard case. Yet, so much of it seems thankless. When I say thankless, I think of the client where I did a gruelling lengthy trial and ultimately saved him millions of dollars of the money his ex-spouse was after. He accused me of being manipulative when I wanted to be paid the balance of funds he owed me. On top of all of it, I have issues with my Law Society, and there is no end in sight to the financial and emotional stress I experience as a result. I have experienced intense shame and embarrassment. I have spent hours suffering in silence and in shame. I have experienced gutting fear all the while wanting to protect my livelihood. I have been buried in legal fees and buried in stress. But why protect my livelihood? Why would I continue in the face of such adversity? So, I have been asking myself . . . why do I do it? I have been disheartened. I have been asking myself, why would I continue doing this tough, stressful, and sometimes thankless work?! And then I am reminded of the story of who I will call Andy. Andy was having a great life with a young family and things were going along swimmingly. He ran a construction company. He won awards. He and his partner had two small children. Then he got hurt on the job, very hurt. He was prescribed Oxycotin. Although Oxycotin is legal, some people describe it as heroin in a pill. The destruction it has caused to families on this planet is well known and documented. Andy's life unravelled in a huge way. He, and the mother of his children, I will call her Narcissa began to engage in a significant drug-taking lifestyle. I act for Andy's Dad, who I will call Peter. Although it is Peter that is my client, I have gotten to know Andy's sister and brother and Andy's Mom, even though she and Peter have been divorced for many years. The entire family is aligned in terms of ensuring these young children have a relationship with their paternal family. The children are loved deeply by their paternal family and the Children know it. Peter speaks German to them, tells them wonderful fairy tales, and yes, sometimes he makes them eat their veggies. He was the primary caregiver to the Children while Andy and Narcissa were doing drugs (unbeknownst to Peter). Ultimately, Andy and Narcissa broke up and Narcissa has spent more than six years doing everything, and I mean everything possible to cut the two young children, now 9 and 11 years old out of Andy's life and that of his family's. Tragically, Andy passed a little less than a year ago from a drug overdose. This was profoundly devastating to Peter and his family. Yet, they wanted to ensure the children could continue a relationship with their paternal family. They want to ensure that these children have an ongoing connection to their Dad even though he is now gone. Despite Andy's passing, Narcissa's campaign has continued for whatever reason (I do think the name I have chosen for her has something to do with it, just sayin'). She continues to do everything possible to keep these children from Peter and the extended paternal family. This is even though the children love to spend time with them. Over the years, she has made many false and serious allegations. The allegations have been investigated by police, by child services, and despite her many attempts, the allegations are not found credible by anyone, including the investigating authorities. And this is why I know that the work I do is important. After our last court date and two days of gruelling argument, the children still get to see Peter and their cousin, their grandma, their Aunt and their Uncle. This is in spite of Narcissa's objections. This is what Peter's daughter sent to me in an email (I have changed a few words and the names to protect confidentiality). It is, however, printed with her permission and blessing: I wanted to tell you that after the first court date, I texted you to say what a great job I'd thought you'd done. After a small exchange, you sent me 5 red hearts. When you sent me the 5 red hearts a weight was lifted. Andy had a strong favourite number and favourite colour: Red Five. Andy and I talked about it all the time. And every day since he left, me and my mom send each other 5 red hearts. So thank you for intuitively knowing that . . . or maybe Andy gave you a little whisper :) That my friend is why we continue to do this work. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Val   In this Episode: Being a Divorce Lawyer is very hard [00:01:04] When I represent clients, I put my whole heart and soul into it. [00:02:58] I have been asking myself, why would I continue doing this tough, stressful, and sometimes thankless work? [00:03:48] The story of who I will call Andy [00:05:35] Red Five :) [00:09:30]

Join me and Cammie Wolf Rice to get an in-depth insight into the long-raging US Opioid Crisis, causing thousands of deaths each year. Around 1/3rd of these deaths are due to Prescription Drugs alone. Cammie tells us her personal story and how she lost her son Christopher as his MD prescribed highly addictive painkillers after an operation. She feels that the US Health Care System, the Government and the Pharma Industry fail society, by not providing adequate education and warnings about the dangers of prescribed Painkillers. To fight this reality and in honor of Christopher, Cammie founded The Christopher Wolf Crusade (www.CWC.ngo) in 2018. The CWC's mission is to spare preventable deaths and save lives worldwide, by providing preventative solutions, education, and advocacy for the American opioid epidemic. Cammie warns, we all are exposed to the danger of becoming addicted to hard drugs by first taking prescription Painkillers such as Oxycotin, Vicodin, Demerol (etc.) and even Ritalin - often prescribed to children with ADHD. The stigma attached to addicts is utterly wrong – anybody can fall prey to drug addiction. About 75% of Heroin Users started their addiction by first becoming addicted to Prescription Drugs given by their MDs, often for minor ailments, she tells us. Since the start of the Covid19 Pandemic, total deaths caused by drug overdoses has shot up by 30% in some US states. Each year Prescription Opioid Misuse costs the US economy almost 80bn USD, according to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). The system has to change and the spotlight is on Policy Makers, Big Pharma, Education for Medical Professionals, but also on Patients themselves, to become less trusting towards any kind of prescription from their Medical Doctors. So he connected me to Sean and Cass from the Very Ape Podcast, two psychonauts who are also on the Mind Pod network I am in, I scheduled a meeting with them the very next day.  Full warning, this podcast, was a huge departure for me in many ways, mostly, because I have never done a joint interview in this way, but predominantly because I talked about many, many personal things that I usually keep in a tiny pandoras box inside my tummy. The next morning I experienced a "vulnerability hangover" so intense that I just wanted to crawl into a ball and expire.  So...I have nothing but intense love for these two. I didn't know anything about them and to say that our worlds line up and our values are in complete balance is a wicked understatement. More to come from our new friendship thrupple. There is a anepidemic as it relates to drugs and alcohol within our youth. As an adult and parent we have a moral responsibility and personal responsibility when it comes to our children or the children in our care. A parent is a role model and one of the most important person in a child's life. With that being said, it was documented in the Huffpost that, " If you think your teen is not using, or at least experimenting with drugs, you need to wake up." According to the National Center On Addiction and Substance Abuse, 75% of high school students have used an addictive substance and approximately 16% of the U.S. population ages 12 and over met a clinical  diagnostic criteria for addiction to nicotine, alcohol and other drugs. Drugs appear to be easy to come by, with 44% of high school students indicating that they knew a classmate who sells drugs. Drugs are in the home and communities of our youth. There are children in elementary school that have knowledge or have been exposed to drugs or alcohol. In 2016 alcohol remained the most common substance abused among teens. Marijuana came second then prescription drugs. was the most popular. Then there was Oxycotin and Vicodin. Sadly there are about 1600 kids trying prescription drugs for the first time every day. Let's not forget about the synthetic drugs and vaping is also on the rise.  So what is a parent to do? Many parents are clueless when it comes to drugs or alcohol. Let's start a conversation and keep it going to educate, prevent, empower and save our children's life before another beat us to the punch. Learn the warning signs. Obtain information as to why children start using drugs and alcohol. Please don't ignore this conversation as your child may be at risk.  All callers are welcome live 7/30/18 at 12pm Pacific. 516 387-1914. You can also listen at anytime.
