Happy to be here. Roy Morejon: Yeah. Super stoked to finally get you on the show. It seems like many, many moons ago that you launched your original Kickstarter campaign, raising almost a half a million dollars on Kickstarter, and then over the last two years, you've been in demand over on Indiegogo, and you've now done over $2.5 million in sales, shipping I think over 50,000 of these products out to the backers, so really excited to have you on the show. But before I get ahead of myself, which I typically love to do on these shows, let's tell the audience a little bit about your background in terms of what led you to creating this product and being an entrepreneur. Adam Craft: Yeah. So my background's product design. And prior to starting Elevated Craft, I had a product design and engineering consultancy. And so I was exposed to a lot of different types of products, anything from toys to medical devices. And then what kind of led to the cocktail shaker idea was that I designed a series of vacuum insulated water bottles for somebody, so it gave me exposure to the engineering behind that. In that process, made trips to China, going to those factories, and then ultimately kind of started the shaker as just a side gig and ...

Barley, water and wood chip (for its boiler) are sourced locally and the resultant mash fed back to the local cattle. Enjoying as it does a robust ocean climate, the Scotch whisky is flavoured by the Atlantic sea producing a unique maritime twang to the single malt. To top it all, Ardnamurchan Whisky is on the blockchain, providing provenance from the tip of Scotland to a tumbler of the amber liquid poured anywhere in the world. CEO Alex Bruce was responsible for bringing blockchain to Adelphi, copying a food supply chain project involving pigs which really impressed him. Alex has been with the organisation for almost 17 years, the last six of which were as CEO. According to him he probably has the best job in the world. Adelphi Distillery has a finite production cap, dealing as it does with sustainable inputs from local farmers. The beauty of adding blockchain as a layer of transparency and provenance was very appealing for Alex. “I went, yeah, this makes sense for us. We only have limited capacity and we want to ensure our customers enjoy our authentic malt.” Alex rolled out a pilot project in 2017 with a Belfast based software company called Arcnet. They funnelled all the data surrounding the production onto the blockchain. “We listed all aspects of production onto our open ledger; fermentation, mashing, distillation etc and then we included dates, times and even personnel involved in each step of the process. There is a QR code on the back of each bottle which provides access to that data.” Alex's aim is for it to act as an internal ledger as well as a public one. From the early pilots, last year they launched the first Ardnamurchan Single Malt on the blockchain. Given as this happened during lockdown, tasting happened over zoom, sometimes beginning at 8am in the morning to cater for different time zones around the world. “All 16,000 bottles have been allocated and they all sold out within a day of arriving in each country. It's been amazing. “Having the blockchain provenance is very important. We are not some anonymous warehouse but a boutique, premium distillery. Even the placename of our distillery smacks of character – Ardnamurchan means headland of the great seas. We have a unique product and blockchain helps us confirm this.” After the successful launch in 2020, Alex is planning on launching all systems data onto the blockchain. “For example, if during the production an operator adds 5 kilograms of yeast into the fermentation process, that is documented and stored on the blockchain. Before it would be saved on paper, now it's on chain, which means when Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs audit our distillery we can be fully transparent. Same for our customers when they view the QR codes. “We are even planning to include the suppliers of the wooden casks, the yeast supplies from Belgium, the provider of our corks and capsules – everything is recorded, everything is automated and eventually everything becomes much more simple for us.” It is like our manta – Taste the Story – only now customers can view it too. In this episode, we were joined by our good friend Kevin. Kevin is one of those people that gets good at pretty much whatever he puts his mind too. He's an amazing jazz saxophone player, he roasts and sells coffee from his garage, and he cooks insanely delicious food. But his main endeavor for the past number of years has been craft cocktails, and he's become quite the expert at it. So we picked his brain about how cocktails work. What makes craft cocktails special? What kinds of details go into building a recipe and keeping it consistent? And how do you infuse liquor with things like jalapeno, pineapple, mint, or whatever else, in order to get even more unique flavors out of your recipes. And since we are all musicians, we kind of connected the flavor balance from the cocktail world to the balance of musical harmony. We talked about the main notes, or flavors, in a cocktail that work in harmony to create a delicious drink. Seriously, before I had a fancy cocktail, I had no idea what went into it and how amazing they could be. The intensity of flavors and the way they can achieve balance is both scientific and artistic. Brian’s Picks: Jeffrey Morgenthaler’s The Bar Book, Elements of Cocktail Technique  is always my #1 recommendation. (He was a guest on Episode 113.) Esquire Drinks, An Opinionated & Irreverent Guide to Drinking - David Wondrich (out of print, but is available used on Amazon for as little as $2.81!) An old book - 2002, but a goodie.  Mr. Wondrich, who is the end all authority on cocktail history wrote this book for Esquire Magazine.  If you ever want the definitive answer on the history of a cocktail, just google the name of the drink and "Wondrich". (He was a guest on Episode 110.) The Joy of Mixology The Consummate Guide to the Barternend’s Craft - Oh Gaz....I miss you. Originally published in 2003, there is an updated version of this book.  (He was a guest on Episode 175.) The Curious Bartender,  The Artistry and Alchemy of Creating the Perfect Cocktail - Tristian Stephenson.   Smart guy.  I love how in this book he presents a classic cocktail, gives the classic specs, and then his interpretation of an improvement on the recipe. (He was a guest on Episode 122.) Regarding Cocktails - Sasha Petraske (Foreword by Dale DeGroff), Shsah changed everything in our industry. (He's NOT been a guest on the show, he unfortunately passed away in 2015... I never had the opportunity to meet the man, but he influenced so many). Benny’s Picks: Liquid Intelligence, The Art and Science of the Perfect Cocktail by Dave Arnold.  The Science of Cocktails?  Who would have thought?  A great and well thought out book. Smuggler’s Cove, Exotic Cocktails, Rum,and the Cult of Tiki by Martin and Rebecca Cate (He was a guest on Episode 186 .) A beautiful book full of great information and beautiful tiki drinks. Beach Bum Berry Remixed, Gallery of Tiki Drinks by Jeff Berry.  A real tiki book, full of old school tiki recipes. PDT Cocktail Book, The Complete Bartender’s Guide From the Celebrated Speakeasy by Jim Meehan (He was a guest on Episode 77.) Meehan is a true gentleman who created a perfect Speakeasy.  Every Bartender should own this book.
