Garrett J. White is the founder of the Wake Up Warrior Movement, Author of the Best Selling Book WARRIOR BOOK, Creator of Warrior Week, and Host of the top rated podcasts Warrior On Fire, Warrior Wealth, and Date Your Wife. What started as a desire to set himself free from the bondage of his own failing life after the banking crisis of 2008, soon transformed into the launch of a Global Movement in Late 2012. The Warrior Movement is quickly changing the business world we have known for decades using an unconventional method for living and producing as a modern man known as the Warriors Way. "As an observer, I've been privileged to witness a transformation of several students of Wake Up Warrior. During my last trip to speak about our work with the Navy SEALs Fund, several introductions from the group have turned into friendships. The work that Garrett, Sam and the WUW team are doing with men is truly life-changing and I encourage anyone that seeks to take their life and business to a higher level to look seriously at this program. I've personally witnessed men gain confidence, clarity and control of their lives by learning to tell the truth about what really matters. As well, with the financial support WUW has given the Navy SEALS Fund, we've been able to help dozens of former SEALS and their families. Our commitment to these men focuses on assisting our teammates with PTSD/TBI treatment and financial assistance when dealing with the physical and psychological trauma from a life serving their country. We could not do this without the continued support from WUW." They discussed Tom's service to our nation in the U.S. Army which spanned nearly 21 years (1990-2011). Tom is in recovery from alcoholism as well he suffered a traumatic brain injury during his time in the service. This led him on the path to not only become an advocate for others suffering from addiction but soldiers and first responders also suffering from addiction and mental health issues. His military career included time in the 82nd Airborne, as a Green Beret in the US Army's 7th Special Forces Group, and, ultimately, in the US Army's 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment Delta as an Operator. Since retiring from the military in 2011, Spooner has successfully enabled thousands of warriors to acknowledge their struggles, seek treatment, and understand that they are not alone. Spooner joined forces with successful treatment providers Josh and Lisa Lannon to open Warriors Heart in 2016. Warriors Heart is the first and ONLY private and accredited residential treatment program in the U.S. that is exclusively for warriors (active-duty military, veterans, first responders, and EMTs/paramedics) that helps American Warriors struggling with drug and alcohol addiction and other co-occurring issues (PTSD, mild TBI, trauma, depression and co-occurring issues). Tom speaks from the heart about personally struggling with chemical dependencies, PTSD, mild TBI, and more to help others. Okay, so a bunch of you IW/21 Gun listeners convinced me to take the hot seat and tell my story. I wasn't psyched about the idea of letting you all into my weird little world... but here goes nothing! I served as an Air Force C-130 Navigator from 2003 till 2007 until I was medically discharged from PTSD/TBI sustained during combat operations in Iraq. I found myself deeply depressed and constantly questioning the events which lead to my AF career ending prematurely. I had two choices, stay in bed, drink and feel sorry for myself or dig deep, face the situation head-on and plan out my new life. Fast forward 10 years and I am now a successful Physician Assistant with a beautiful family which I adore beyond words. Lately, we're hearing about 22 veteran suicides a day. It makes me wonder where I would have been a decade ago without the support of a loving family and resources to get back on my feet. How many veterans are left feeling alone and isolated in a sea of civilians who don't speak their language, understand their humor, or share common experiences? So I decided to bring the stories of Post-9/11 Veterans out in the open. I want veterans to share their stories of success and failures and to hopefully shed light on the fact that none of us are alone as long as we call ourselves veterans! The Midwest Academy Leader-Cast: Leadership Development Podcast
After graduating high-school in 1982, John David ("JD") Morris tried going to college, but that life just didn't fit. In 1986, he enlisted in U.S. Army & everything started to make sense. He found connection with other like-minded people & purpose in serving our country. He started out in the Airborne Combat Engineers at Ft. Bragg, NC, and served there from 1987-1991. Three overseas deployments; two to Honduras, Central America, & one to Operation Desert Storm would be the highlights of his MOS-12B career. During those years at Ft. Bragg, NC, he was always impressed with the “other guys” across the street on Smoke Bomb Hill. They were Green Berets. Upon returning from Desert Storm, he immediately went to Special Forces Assessment and Selection-SFAS. After completing selection, he attended & completed the Special Forces Engineer Course & Special Forces Qualification Course in 1992. In December 1992, he reported to B/3/5th SFG(A) at Ft. Campbell, KY. He had no way of knowing then that he would stay there until retirement in April 2008. He spent 13 years on Operational Detachments in 3rd Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group (A). Over those 13 years, he served as the Engineer Sergeant, Intelligence Sergeant, & Operations Sergeant (Team Sergeant) on Special Forces A-Teams. He deployed five times under long term combat conditions from 1991-2006. He also deployed for numerous contingency operations in the Middle East during the 1990's. After his third tour in Iraq during the Global War on Terror in 2006, he was very sick & confused. He suffered from PTSD & TBI; but couldn't recognize it himself. After a medical retirement in 2008 at 21 years of service, he was lost in life after the military. It would take six more difficult years before the healing started. He is transparent about this part of his life in an attempt to give back & help others with the same post military & combat injuries. He offers the same support to local Law Enforcement & First Responders. He dedicates his time after retirement to training others in local communities. His time spent over four decades in special military operations, combat operations, & specialized law enforcement operations enhances & benefits all levels of training in our current society. However, he emphasizes that the hardest training he has endured is life after the military & combat. Giving back what he has been so freely given is his way of continuing to heal.

In this episode, Lauren sits down with Dr. Harold Kraft, owner and operator of LaserMD Pain Relief in Southern California. With a background in anesthesiology and engineering, he has been working in groundbreaking Class 4 laser technology to treat and cure various forms of pain and injury, from neuropathy, arthritis, CRPS, and sciatica to fibromyalgia, PTSD, and TBI (traumatic brain injury). Sometimes in just a few short treatments, he has observed incredible results and reduced symptoms – and, in many cases, eliminated or bypassed the need for prescription opioids. While his practice thrives, he has plans to make laser therapy (which has been common in veterinary work for many years) more accessible and affordable to the average person – and continues to offer life-changing treatment to the masses. Listen in as Dr. Kraft shares: - how laser therapy is non-invasive and has little to no side effects, but can have incredible anti-inflammatory and nerve growth/repair results; in PTSD or Alzheimer’s, it can assist the brain in developing new circuits - that in terms of pain relief, he has observed a genetic link (through the maternal side) to a patient’s receptivity to treatment – 3 out of 5 tend to see results; this same link does not seem to apply with regard to PTSD/TBI, in which the odds of benefit from treatment are, across the board, “nothing short of stunning” - that his practice is completely unique in that he uses ONLY laser treatment; he no longer prescribes pain me dication or gives injections for pain - that many of his patients have come to him after having “failed” to manage their pain in every other case - that the pendulum has swung too far away from opioids for people who need them – some of this need is entirely legitimate, and the difficulty in acquiring pain medications for those in need is a crisis of its own - how his wife’s dog, Harley, is the reason he discovered hot laser therapy - that he tested the laser on himself first, and saw incredible results in treating hip bursitis -his belief that high - dose laser will, in a few years, become the gold standard of treatment for PTSD and TBI - that previous studies of hot laser therapy in treating PTSD and TBI showed a 30 - 60% decrease in depression, and appeared to entirely eliminate nightmares and sleep disturbances - that, based on his research, he estimates 1 million veterans and 5 million civilians in the US suffer from PTSD; females suffering from PTSD are most often survivors of sexual trauma - that, based on the treatments he’s been offering to PTSD patients over the last year, he’s seen a 30 - 100% reduction in depression, along with the elimination of sleep disturbances - that he needs funding and investment to continue genetic research and to scale in the field to create a PTSD/TBI mobile laser clinic; “there is tremendous potential – it just needs to be developed” - that laser treatment for PTSD is not currently covered by insurance; laser treatment for pain and neuropathy are sporadically covered - that the VA is flawed, and unlikely to be early adopters of hot laser PTSD treatment -that the US healthcare system is terribly flawed, and that the introduction of health insurance companies has ended as a bad experiment that we’re sort of locked into; that the VA is an example of a medicare for all system that has had equally bad results; and that the major problem with both models comes down to TOO much trust in physicians (and physicians having too much belief in their infallibility) - that the key to fixing the system is education - that health insurance is not the same as health care, and that health care is not the same as prevention; prevention is the most important of these, and could allow us to treat people at substantially reduced cost -that, though he is not an expert on depression itself, he sees hot laser therapy as a potential treatment for chronic and major depression - that he’d love to see hot lasers in every primary care practice, and that he is developing a laser for that purpose right now -perhaps most amazing about hot laser treatment is that, unlike many opioids, it is not a Band-Aid; rather, it treats a root cause - that patients should push their insurers to cover treatments like hot laser (if it is not already covered on their plan) - why patients should keep a journal: so they can speak the same language as their physicians, who are often data-driven

Soldier ON Service Dogs www.soldieronservicedogs.org History Soldier On Service Dogs (SOSD) was founded by Angie Pratt in September 2014 after a close relative, a Marine bomb technician, was injured in Afghanistan and began experiencing the effects of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). After researching treatments she realized a service dog would be of great benefit but no such organizations were to be found in this area. Thus began Soldier On Service Dogs, the only organization of its kind in the state of Arkansas. Twenty percent of Iraqi and Afghanistan war veterans have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and/or Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). Estimates for Northwest Arkansas put the number of PTSD/TBI Veterans at about 14,000. Of those, 840 (6%) would benefit from a service dog. PTSD/TBI service dogs do amazing things for their veterans. They detect seizures, disrupt nightmares, call 911, reduce need for medication, mitigate anxiety, reduce stress and save families and veterans’ lives. SOSD puts its dogs through a two-year training process. First, the company acquires a puppy between six and eight weeks old. The puppy is then sent to live with a foster family (see Puppy Raisers for more information), where it is disciplined and learns to adapt to a family environment. After about a year, the dog is brought in for advanced work with the company's trainers for four to six months. When the dog reaches 18 months old, it is paired with a veteran for further training. Each veteran applicant is required to be in counseling and have obtained a letter from that counselor stating they would benefit from a service dog and would be able to take care of it. Soldier On Service Dogs also requires the veterans take classes with them to find a dog that suits them and learn to handle their dogs. These classes continue as long as necessary before the veteran is allowed to take their service dog home. The entire training and raising process costs about $25,000 per dog/veteran duo. Our Mission To operate as a charitable organization by providing, at no charge, trained service dogs and service dog training to qualified veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and/or Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI), and by contributing to the overall knowledge base of best practices associated with service dogs. We will focus on quality of the dog, its training, its trainers and veteran clients to assure successful placement and ongoing dog/client partnerships. ABOUT SOSD Soldier On Service Dogs is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that provides Northwest Arkansas Veterans diagnosed with PTSD and/or TBI with service dogs free of charge. Our service dogs are carefully chosen, matched to a veteran and custom trained to handle that veterans specific needs. ___________________________________________ The Demand Because Arkansas has one of the highest per-capita veteran populations there are an estimated 2,500 Arkansans in need of service dogs. In fact, nearly 10% of Arkansans have served or currently serve in the military. The Supply To date, there has been a very limited offering of highly trained service dogs. There is no regulation when it comes to service dog trainers and no regulated certification for service dog teams, resulting in many inadequately trained dogs carrying the honored title of Service Dogs. Our service dogs are trained by our specialists familiar with the needs of veterans, and we also train the veterans how to handle their service dogs in a variety of situations. The Current Situation There is currently a great need for properly trained service dogs for veterans in Northwest Arkansas and across the country. The Veterans Administration only recognizes service dogs for veterans with sight, hearing or mobility issues. A study is being conducted by the Veterans Administration to validate veterans with PTSD can benefit from service dogs. We have directly witnessed the benefits a service dog can give to a veteran with these disabilities. In fact, there may be a direct link to the benefits of service dogs and the prevention of suicide in the veteran population. ___________________________________________ Hero Tales Hanger Party http://www.soldieronservicedogs.org/About/Events/Hero-Tales-Hanger-Party A fun evening honoring our local veterans! 182: Lynn Lowder 1 Vet at a Time On today's episode, Joe Crane welcomes Lynn Lowder 1 Vet at a Time. Lynn has diverse leadership and management experience in business, law and the military. He is a nationally recognized veterans-rights advocate on: VA health care benefits, PTSD/TBI and entrepreneurship initiatives. A decorated combat veteran, he served as a team leader with 1st Force Reconnaissance Company (Special Operations) in South Vietnam where he was awarded the Silver Star Medal for valor, the Bronze Star Medal with combat “v” and the Purple Heart for wounds received in action. "Veterans have a lot more going for them than they think they do in terms of getting into business." - Lynn Lowder From the Marines to the Legal Profession Lynn was a football player in college during the Vietnam war. He always wanted to be in the Marine Corps, and so enlisted after the junior season. Within the military, he commanded a Marine rifle platoon, two Marine rifle companies, an overseas Marine security guard company and a Marine special operations team in Vietnam. He spent a total of 16 years in the Corps. Towards the end of his career in the military, he got a degree in law and transitioned into the civilian life as a trial lawyer. Helping 1 Vet at a Time Lynn served as a trial lawyer for 20 years. He eventually worked as general counsel for a large franchise. He also worked as a chief operating officer for other companies. "A number of our veterans would be far better off to be captain of their own row boat than being buried somewhere down in the engine room of a large ship." - Lynn Lowder In 2012, he helped start a veteran program at a regional university. His experience exposed him to many 9/11 veterans. In just less than a year, the program grew to 1400 vets. Choices for Veterans Under the Law Lynn learned that the basic thrust of legislation was full employment. The Servicemen's Readjustment Act (1944) provides a couple of choices for veterans. Under the Act, veterans may get a degree and have a job. They may also choose to get a trade instead. They may also purchase a business property with The Fed as their loan guarantor. Christianna Capra (CC) is co-founder & Director of Equine Services with Spring Reins of Life 501c3 (Horses, Humans & Healing). Started in 2012 Spring Reins of Life, almost right away began working with the Men's PTSD Unit at Lyons VA Hospital. In 2015 that expanded to include the Women's and the Domiciliary PTSD Units. CC and Spring Reins of Life have been in four books and numerous print articles. Also featured in the media such as PIX11 News, Verizon Fios, and more. CC has over 40 years of horse experience handling (exercising) riding and competitive showing. Working with horses at liberty is a very freeing experience. Capra spent 25 years in NYC with a background in publicity, she now resides at the farm/facility where the horses live and the work happens. Operation Horse, EAP/L for combat veterans suffering with PTSD/TBI. Veteran suicide is an out of control epidemic today. There are over 5,000 recorded deaths in Iraq & Afghanistan, yet over 128,000 suicides on US soil. At Spring Reins of Life in New Jersey we are working to be part of the solution. NJ had a high population of veterans, also has more horses per square mile than most states. PTS is an internal injury and trauma robs you of present moment, peace, trust, resiliency. At Operation Horse we do not ride, nor do we teach horsemanship - both of which have immense qualities. We are more focused on the interaction with horses who are "at liberty" (loose and able to express themselves freely). It is impossible to not become fully present when there are 1000 lb + creatures moving around you. Especially if you do not have experience being around horses. Horses are prey/flight animals and you will not get close to a loose horse unless they trust you. Veterans with moderate/severe PTS have lost all trust (even with themselves), so establishing trust with a horse can become a very large metaphor. Horses read body language and energy with acute precision and once this is understood - veterans are able to begin exploring their own set of coping skills. We do not "talk about it", words are not necessary. At the end of each session we do ask for ONE word to describe that days events. Over 300 times we have heard words like: Peaceful, Calm, Relaxing, Awesome, Laughter, Thank-you, Inspiring, etc. Spring Reins of Life is an EAGALA Model certified program - EAGALA is the Equine Assisted Growth & Learning Association and is present in all 50 states and over 50 countries worldwide. Spring Reins of Life was founded in 2012, in 2014 we were the first (and currently the only) program in the state of NJ to earn and retain the "Military Services Provider" certificate. Currently we see veterans (OIF, OEF and Vietnam) from Lyons VA Hospital - and we could be doing more. Funding is an issue. With over 23 suicides per day, the VA needs to step up and release some of the millions of dollars set aside for mental health crisis and put it into modalities that are showing results. There is not evidence based research on EAP/L however if the VA put money into it there would be in no time. Because horses heal, and in the case of the veteran population they can and will save lives! Spring Reins of Life also has programming created for veterans families and supports called "Coming HOME", and while we have requests, we have no funding in that area. Must admit it is rather frustrating to be a volunteer run organization so that we can allocate more than 85% of funding dollar towards services...and then there are places such as Wounded Warriors who Exec Director makes $2M a year and maybe 20% of millions of dollars in funding gets to the veterans themselves. But regardless, we keep pushing and fighting for, the avenues to keep this service going and to ultimately expand it. Really does take a village! http://veteranpodcast.com/053
This is a place for spouses of veterans to easily access information and share the ups and downs of leaving the military lifestyle. We all heard the term at one point on another during our spouse's time in the military. Household 6.We were the support group, caretaker, wife/husband, launder, chef, friend, and a plethora of other hats. Our spouse has gotten out, but the above jobs haven't dissipated, in fact for many it has become harder. Both the veteran and the spouse are adjusting. This is a safe place to help process that adjustment. After realizing how little support is available for veteran's spouses, we decided to do something about it.We are bringing resources such as ETS'ing information, disability information, little to no cost counseling, reading material, blogs, career information (including companies that hire and companies that help with resume writing), PTSD/TBI support, businesses you can locally support that are veteran or veteran spouse owned,K9 organization,as well as better known sources such as the VA,American Legion, and DAV into one place. From the minute the military member transitions to a veteran, this is where you can go for reliable and helpful information. Our goal is to unite the veteran community and provide families with the necessary resources to thrive upon leaving the military. After almost losing his life to suicide, he realized how precious it was. He then moved on to just learning how to survive in life, but that wasn't enough for him. He figured there had to be more than just surviving. That is when he took control of his life, and learned how to turn every negative aspect in his life into a positive.
