Josh Lannon grew up in nightclubs in Vegas. His family owned and operated clubs that were voted #1 in the country, five-years in a row. It was a fast paced life, and one that almost cost Josh all of it. He ended up at the bottom, but through faith and family, he has clawed his way back out, and he's pouring his passion into Warriors Heart, healing centers for Veterans, first responders and members of the law enforcement community. Let's meet Josh and hear his story on this episode of PICK UP THE SIX Podcast.

When I started the Weekly Havok it was supposed to be a roundtable discussion with the staff and writers at Havok Journal. You probably noticed it increasingly because one-on-one interviews. Honestly, it's just hard to wrangle three guests for a panel each week. That's why it started becoming more "spotlight" episodes where I did one-on-one interviews. So, after a little thinking, we've rebranded TWH into Profiles in Havok - which kind of fits the one-on-one interview theme a lot better. And it will still populate in your old TWH feed, so you can still listen to our old episodes. But I couldn't think of a better guest to kick off our rebranding than Brad Thomas. There are a lot of reasons I couldn't wait to sit down and talk with Brad. I've listened to his rock band Silence & Light's debut album a lot. The battle of Mogadishu had a big impact on both of us - me in high school and him being there. And like him, I was greatly influenced by a lot of early 90's bands. So I had high hopes for the interview. They were all surpassed. There are not a lot of rock band founders who can discuss military culture with any real authority or insight. There are not a lot of former Delta operators who can nerd out on open choruses and Barry Manilow. Between the military and the music, we manage to cover so much ground. And even so, I had enough questions and follow-ups for another few hours. Savage Wonder episode 19 with guest Brad Thomas. Army Ranger, veteran of the Battle of Mogadishu, Delta Force operator…guitarist and composer for metal band Silence & Light. There are a lot of reasons I couldn't wait to sit down and talk with Brad. For one thing, he embodies the warrior-artist characteristics we like to celebrate here. Today we hear the Combat Story of Brad Thomas, a former Ranger and Delta Force operator who fought in multiple theaters from Somalia to Bosnia to Iraq and Afghanistan, including 12 years at the Unit in the pre- and post-9/11 era. [NOTE: We're launching on Patreon soon. Register to get notified at https://www.combatstory.com/patreon] Brad gave up a promising musical career to serve, first with Ranger Battalion and then finding his way into Delta Force. His first combat experience was in Mogadishu in what we know as Black Hawk Down as part of 3rd Ranger Battalion in a true baptism by fire. Since leaving the military, Brad returned to his passion: music. He gathered a group of veterans who now make up the band “Silence and Light” and saw far more success than they expected on their debut album and are releasing their second album in the near future. Since Brad can't help but go all in on everything he does, he and the band donate their profits to two veteran-focused charities: Marine Raider Foundation and Warriors Heart. It's not often you get to sit down and hear directly from someone who spent years at the Tier 1 level and survived Mogadishu so I hope you enjoy this Combat Story and brief glimpse into that world as much as I did. Brad Thomas joined The Protectors to talk about music and music and more music. Brad is part of SILENCE & LIGHT. Describing the band's music….from Foo Fighters to Alice and Chains to 80's hard rock to a unique sound that doesn't fit in those categories. SILENCE & LIGHT is unique….why? Because no other band has the background of theirs. Check out the full video on YouTube (search The Protector Show) About the band: Formed in May of 2017 in New York City, Silence & Light draws from their musical pasts and their experiences as U.S. Special Operations veterans and set out to create music that would raise awareness about the myriad issues facing veterans of the Global War on Terror and civil first responders, and to create a mechanism to support organizations that support those individuals in times of need. We are a modern hard rock band whose sole purpose is to inspire the people of the world who have endured the thrills of great success and high achievement and the lows of life's hardships and struggles to channel their energy into creating something positive and meaningful. In January 2019, Silence & Light recorded their debut EP at Stagg Street Studios in Van Nuys, California under the direction of Grammy Award-winning Producer, Josh Gudwin, and Studio Engineer Bil Lane. Silence & Light is committed to contributing profits from its music sales to numerous Charitable Organizations designed to help support the members and families of the Special Operations community, as well as first responders. In keeping with our mission, proceeds from music sales for our first album will be contributed to Warriors Heart and the Marine Raider Foundation.Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/theprotectors)
On this week's special podcast SOFREP senior editor and SOFREP Radio host Steve Balestrieri talks with Tom Spooner former Delta Force member and Co-founder of Warriors Heart. Warriors Heart is an organization, which provides healing from a variety of issues, including PTSD and drug problems, for veterans, law enforcement agents, and first responders. Yet, its approach is unique. At Warriors Heart healing is achieved communally and holistically; and not in a clinic, but at an idyllic ranch in Hill Country, Texas. In 2006 Tom suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) which went undiagnosed. His condition deteriorated eventually forcing him to retire from the military. He talks with Steve about his journey to overcome his TBI and how his commitment to the welfare of the troops led him to eventually create Warriors Heart in 2016. Since the organization's creation Warriors Heart has treated 2,000 men and women. Tune in to another informative episode of SOFREP Radio. Hello and welcome to the very 6th episode of the beautifully broken me podcast. Today's podcast shade more light on courage, hope, strength and resilience. Some of the factors that could make a person to remain in an abusive relationship were also highlighted. Such as; the fear of the unknown, the fear of starting all over again; and the thought of what people will say. In some cases; it could be due to the sacred wedding vowed in which victims are encouraged to stay in such relationships even at the risk of their own life. My guest today is a brave and courageous domestic violence survivor; she will be sharing her relatable lives story; how she navigated and overcame a 10 years long abuse at the hands of her ex husband. Dr. Linda is indeed warrior; she is is a very passionate domestic violence advocate. She has assisted several domestic violence victims including myself. She is a super incredible woman; whom despite all the vissisitudes of lives challenges; she excelled, triumphed and become a highly desirably sort after woman. If you are currently going through domestic violence; I will like you to know that I see you; I see your heart; I am hugging you right now; I fully understand what you're going through because I have experienced it. Take strength from todays episode. And do not forget this; you are loved and valued. Most importantly, do not suffer in silence. Seek help! Do not let fear hold you back; You are worthy of love. You deserve more. The life you deserve is waiting on the other end of a decision that only you can make. Please make that right decision. DO NOT WAIT! Tomorrow might be too late.Guest: Linda AguCEO Arise And ShineSocial Media: @star.restorerRediscovery Coach, Mentor, Clinical Research for oncology patients

Josh Lannon, Warriors Heart President and Founder and Co-Author of “The Social Capitalist”, had a vision to open a healing center for our warriors / protectors so they could heal with the peers only. After getting sober in 2001, Josh and his wife Lisa Lannon opened 6 healing centers to help others “get loved ones back”. In 2013, the Lannons joined forces with Former Special Forces Tom Spooner to open Warriors Heart in Bandera, Texas, outside San Antonio (Warriors Heart is the first and only private residential treatment center in the US for “warriors only” – military, veterans and first responders). With a bold vision to bring 1 million warriors home from addiction and PTSD, Warriors Heart is leading the way in chemical dependency treatment for our warriors. Josh is a leading Professor at the AKKI annual international seminars and teaches martial arts worldwide - and Brazilian Jujitsu is part of the Warriors Heart recovery program. Josh's work has been seen in Forbes, The Chicago Tribune, KSAT, KENS 5, FOX 10 Phoenix, ESPN Radio and more. https://www.warriorsheart.com/about-us/staff/#josh-lannon Josh Lannon TV Interview Warriors Heart Private Inpatient Healing Center KENS CBS San Antonio, Texas https://youtu.be/pNdn5t7uG6s AND https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fNH8lgBSO18 You can get Special Blend from Black Rifle Coffee Company here Important Notes about Warriors Heart Foundation vs Warriors Heart as a reference: The Warriors Heart Foundation helps subsidize the cost of treatment for Warriors who do not have insurance benefits, including VA benefits. Most funding goes towards treatment services at the Warriors Heart Facility (a separate entity from the foundation), but also covers funding for other verified programs. With the unacceptable averages of 20 veteran suicides per day and 1 law enforcement officer every 62.5 hours in the U.S., the goal is not to turn anyone away for financial reasons. The Warriors Heart Foundation supports programs that give individuals and communities the tools to rebuild their lives and become self-sufficient. Donations help: Subsidize funding for chemical dependency and PTSD treatment that includes detox, in-patient residential treatment services, intensive outpatient program (IOP), one-on-one therapy and sober living. Fund ESA or Service Dogs for warriors that includes trained emotional support animals that provide a specific service to a warrior. Fund Sober Living housing for warriors who need continued support where there is structure after treatment while going back to school, volunteering and/or receiving outpatient treatment. Promote behavioral health education for veteran, law enforcement & firefighter resources for what to look for with chemical dependencies and PTSD. In-kind donations also support warrior healing, which may include donations of wood, building materials, steel, metal and wood shop equipment, volunteer work, products and other partnerships. Current foundation partnership programs include the Gary Sinise Foundation, Black Rifle Coffee Company, U.S. Elite Footwear and an MTM l Watch Limited Edition Series. Warriors Heart Foundation (Bandera, Texas) Warriors Heart Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) that accepts donations to help heal our protectors with their peers. One of the missions of the foundation is to provide financial aid through hardship grants that assist in covering the cost of treatment at Warriors Heart to help our military, veterans and first responders get the treatment they have earned and deserve. https://www.warriorsheartfoundation.org Warriors Heart (Bandera, Texas near San Antonio): Warriors Heart is the first and only private accredited treatment program in the U.S. exclusively for “warriors” (active duty military, veterans, first responders and EMTs/paramedics) faced with the self-medicating struggles of alcohol addiction, prescription and drug addiction, PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), mild TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) and other co-occurring issues in a private, 60-bed facility on a 543-acre ranch. Along with a minimum 42-day peer-to-peer residential treatment program, Warriors Heart gives “warriors” the option of Detox, Day Treatment, Outpatient, and Sober Living (60-day minimum). Warriors Heart’s work has been featured on the TODAY Show, CBS Health Watch, FOX 11 Los Angeles, National Defense Radio Show and in TIME, Forbes, The Chicago Tribune, Addiction Pro magazine, San Antonio Business Journal and many more. There is a 24-hour Warriors Heart hotline (844-448-2567) answered by warriors. https://www.warriorsheart.com/
When Tom Spooner enlisted in the Army, he had every intention of becoming a Ranger. But, a last minute change in orders would send him to the 82nd Airborne, where he quickly found, Ranger or not, that he was in his element as a paratrooper. From then on, wherever Spooner went in the military he would find his element along with seasoned veterans who mentored him into a proven combat leader and special operator. Aside from serving in the 82nd, Spooner went on to earn his Green Beret and serve in Special Forces for a little bit before being selected to serve in the Army’s top special mission unit. His experience in combat, coupled with the tools given him by the mentors who fought before him would also help him find a way to heal his mind and body after 12 deployments, and suffering the effects of traumatic brain injury. Make no mistake about it Tom Spooner is a warrior in the truest sense of the word, and today, he helps run Warriors Heart, which he co-founded - a veteran service organization where warriors help other warriors heal through treatment for chemical dependency, alcohol abuse, and co-occurring psychological disorders relating to PTSD and mild traumatic brain injury, carrying on his legacy of service while helping other warriors heal after combat. "As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace." - 1 Peter 4:10 Today we talk with our friend Michael O'dell, Admissions Advocate at Warriors Heart, about his story of transition out of the Marine Corps. Shortly after Michael's return home to the Texas hill country, the struggle with addiction and PTSD began to take control of his life. As a Marine, Michael would refuse to admit to his problems. Michael continued to suffer from his addiction until it landed him in prison. He had been in and out of prison over 30 times before he finally came to the realization that he had to make a change for himself and his family. Michael has been sober since March 2016 and has dedicated himself to helping the warrior class make the crucial decision to choose life and finally return home. We talk about how to serve others that may be going through hard times, how to listen to people, and why we should intentionally reach out to our network of warriors that may be struggling during this period. We're proud to help pre-release "You", a track from Silence & Light's debut album. We can use this as text on the blog post as well. Formed in May of 2017 in New York City, Silence & Light draws from their musical pasts and their experiences as U.S. Special Operations veterans and set out to create music music that would raise awareness about the myriad issues facing veterans of the Global War on Terror and civil first responders, and to create a mechanism to support organizations that support those individuals in times of need. In keeping with their mission, proceeds from music sales for their first album will be contributed to Warriors Heart and the Marine Raider Foundation.

Excellent chat with Max Martini about his career and his continued advocacy for veterans; including his recently released project, Sgt. Will Gardner. Sgt. Will Gardner follows a troubled Iraq War veteran struggling to reintegrate into society sets out on a cross-country journey with the hope of reuniting with his young son. The cast is stellar, from Gary Sinise to Robert Patrick to Max himself. Check it out on Amazon today! We hit on a ton of topics from Max's USO tour that inspired Sgt. Will Gardner, his role in Saving Private Ryan, to how he auditioned for David Mamet for his role in Redbelt (cult classic ju jitsu movie, check it out!). Max comes from a long line of LEO's and military members, including his mom that was in law enforcement. Max also supports several charities, including Warriors Heart, the Gary Sinise Foundation, and Higher Ground USA. Sgt. Will Gardner will not be the last venture for Max to help the veteran community, he's in it for the long haul. Thanks for joining me Max. Also, a shout out to my good friends at Bottle Breacher and Combat Flags! PS: I'm a big fan of all the charities, especially Warriors Heart. We recently had the chance to chat with Max Martini (13 Hours), about his upcoming movie, Sgt. Will Gardner. The actor also was the writer, director, and producer for this project which highlights the struggles that so many veterans face when they return from war. The film tells the story of Iraq War vet, Will Gardner (Martini). Gardner struggles with numerous setbacks as he attempts to re-acclimate himself to life away from war. The movie takes the vet on a journey as he connects with other veterans and his young son. Hit play and listen in as Martini discusses the challenges he faced in putting this project together and what inspired him to tell this harrowing story. The film is unflinching in offering a harsh view of realities faced by so many of the veterans who sacrifice so much for the protection of their country. The film officially debuts in theaters and VOD on January 11th and via Blu-ray/DVD on February 19th. A portion of the film's proceeds will be donated to three charities (Higher Ground, Warriors Heart, and the Gary Sinise Foundation) that support veterans suffering from Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), PTSD, and veteran homelessness. Be sure to visit the film's Facebook/Twitter pages for more information. Sgt. Will Gardner also stars Omari Hardwick (Power), Lily Rabe (American Horror Story), Gary Sinise (Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders) and more.
You've seen Max Martini before, featured in high profile movies like Captain Phillips, Saving Private Ryan, 13 Hours, Pacific Rim, Columbiana and the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy. With his new film, SGT. Will Gardner, he jumps front and center as lead actor, writer and director. Paul and Adam get to know this hard-working actor, who goes in-depth on making a meaningful indie and offers up great stories from the set of some modern classics. SGT. Will Gardner opens Jan. 11th in theaters on on VOD, portions of the profits will benefit Warriors Heart, Higher Ground and the Gary Sinise Foundation. Like good movie talk? GRP 120-Warriors Heart: Two Brothers Serving in Special Missions in The War on Terror For this weeks podcast I have on Tom and Scot Spooner. Both served in the infantry than became Special Forces Engineers. After 9/11 Tom who joined the Army before Scot went to selection and made it into the Army’s Special Missions Unit as an operator. For the next decade he deployed without a break into combat as an operator and a sniper. Scot, was on an instructor tour at the Special Forces school house where he taught everything explosives for young men becoming Green Berets. At 19 years old, Justin left the beautiful town of Henderson, KY, and enlisted in the United States Air Force. During his 20 years of service, he held a variety of different jobs – everything from Cook to Combat Readiness Instructor. His most taxing job, however, would be when he was assigned as the Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge, Mortuary Affairs. For nearly six years he spent his time performing human remains inspections, uniforming the deceased, organizing military escorts, arranging for burial with honors, and consoling grieving families. Justin also managed Combat Mortuary Operations at two separate deployed locations. In late 2012, Justin decided to share his story in the book, “And Then I Cried, Stories of a Mortuary NCO.” His hope was the story could help others struggling with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). He is also an accomplished artist and his works can be seen hanging on the walls of the Pentagon in the Healing Arts Display. In 2013 Justin was Medically Retired from the Air Force with 20 years of service. After retirement Justin continued his advocacy and worked with The Air Force Wounded Warrior Program where he managed the Ambassador Program. He was responsible for teaching seriously injured or ill Airmen how to tell and share their stories of recovery with audiences worldwide. During his tenure there, he trained over 55 Warriors and briefed over 30,000 Airmen ranging from Airman to Four Star General. Justin now works at Warriors Heart, the country’s only dual diagnosis drug and alcohol treatment center that works exclusively with Military, Veterans and First Responders suffering from chemical dependency and psychological injuries such as PTSD and Traumatic Brain Injury. Justin has been featured on CMTs “I Love Kellie Pickler” and has been a guest on over 200 radio shows nationwide. In 2015, he was awarded the American Solider Networks Hero Service Award for his work helping veterans in need. Justin has only one wish – if his work inspires you, do something about it, live beyond PTSD, live with purpose, and find your voice. To see Justin’s previous speaking events, click here.
"Dare to be Bold" is brought to you by J.Forks Designs a lifestyle accessory brand. Here at J.Forks Designs, the saying “dare to be bold” is more than our motto. It is our way of life. For our podcast series, we are interviewing people who live boldly. For our very first episode, we sat down with Josh Lannon from Warriors Heart. Podcast Synopsis: Some dreams do not have textbook definitions or instruction manuals. Driven by faith and blind will, grit and gumption, these dreamers embark upon a journey that terrifies, exasperates, and strengthens them, which ultimately leads them to self discovery - an end destination that they didn’t initially set out to find. “Dare to be Bold” is a podcast by J.Forks Designs that tells the stories of people who chased their wildly profound dreams when living boldly was their only option.
Warrior’s Heart Founder Tom Spooner and Black Rifle Coffee Canada boss Darren Weeks join me at the Warrior’s Heart compound in Bandera, Texas. Tom and I served together for many years, he is a tactical wizard and shooter extraordinaire but his true passion is taking care of soldiers. Along with Lisa and Josh Lannon, Tom helped launch Warrior’s Heart, a drug and alcohol addiction treatment facility that helps Military, Law Enforcement, and First Responders who have addictions and Post Traumatic Stress. Darren has worked for many years with Josh and Lisa and has helped to raise capital to start this great facility. This is a fun podcast but in the end please send us your broken Warriors so we can bring them home. God Bless Warrior’s Heart and God Bless America!!

Coach BK and Coach Coral chat about what an ablation is, highlights on the "Athlete Heart" and how rhythm issues come about as well as introducing BK's Heart Healthy Plan. INSPIRE ENCOURAGE Being Brave Braving Karma means that we are brave enough to look into the mirror, see what is working well for us and strengthen that as well as identify what isn't working for us, what is holding us back and is an obstacle, and working to resolve that. It also touches on being brave enough to work hard, not let fear and risk stop action. AND not be afraid to fall, ask for help and allow others to help us. Every day, an average of 22 veterans take their own lives. This tragic reality motivated Josh and Lisa Lannon and Tom Spooner to do something. They founded Warriors Heart, an addiction treatment center that provides peer-to-peer solutions to help veterans, law enforcement and first responders who struggle with addiction and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Josh Lannon took the time to explain the challenges that veterans face, what Warriors Heart is doing and what he hopes will come of their efforts. Lannon says the VA isn’t the answer. “While the VA (Veterans Administration) has good people, they can’t keep up with the needs of veterans after 14 years of war.” The program, Lannon says, is holistic in its approach. “We are looking at the “whole body” versus sending a warrior to multiple doctors because so many are dealing with multiple issues including addiction, PTSD and MTBI (mild traumatic brain injury).” Read the full Forbes article and watch the interview here: http://onforb.es/1KCAr2G. Josh Lannon is a driven social entrepreneur. He is committed to building businesses that focus on the development of people and creating positive change. Growing up, Josh apprenticed under his father's direction by operating the family owned nightclub in Las Vegas, Nevada. Josh's leadership and team led their Vegas nightclubs to be voted the #1 country club, 5 years in a row. Yet the environment eventually took it's toll and Josh had to make a decision to change. Following his own rehabilitation, Josh and his wife Lisa, began the process of discovering their purpose, and building a business that would allow them to do what they were passionate about. By using the power of their “why” they built Journey Healing Centers, a family of 6 adult drug and alcohol treatment centers, which was later acquired by Elements Behavior Health in 2013. Josh also wrote a book called "The Social Capitalist" describing some of the Rich Dad principles they used to build a business around the heart. He speaks around the globe with the Rich Dad team on Social Entrepreneurism, behavioral change, and applying the Rich Dad principles. During this episode, Nicole and Josh explore his journey, along with valuable tips on becoming a social capitalist who is both wealthy and passionate about helping others. Nicole and Josh also discuss his bold new vision called "Warriors Heart" designed to bring 1 million warriors home from addiction and PTSD. Author, photographer, and humanitarian Eric Greitens grew up in a quiet suburb of St. Louis, but he's seen his share of the world's suffering. After graduating from Parkway North, Greitens headed off to Duke University and a life of public service. He taught English in China, and worked with refugees in places like Rwanda, Croatia and Bosnia, where he came to the realization that victims of war need both compassion and protection. After receiving graduate degrees from Oxford University, he became a Navy SEAL and fought in Afghanistan and Iraq. In 2007, he returned to St. Louis and founded The Mission Continues, a national nonprofit that helps post-9/11 veterans continue to serve their communities. In this One on One Conversation, Greitens talks about his St. Louis childhood and the experiences that led him to write three books, including his new release for young adult readers, The Warrior's Heart: Becoming a Man of Compassion and Courage. Based on Greiten's best-selling memoir, The Heart and the Fist, The Warriors Heart is an inspiring "call to action" for young people who want to make a difference in the world.
