Kyoto Fusioneering is a nuclear fusion startup founded in 2019. Their business model is unique in that they develop and sell key components and technologies for fusion power plants to other companies focused on building the reactors themselves. Since they are selling the “picks & shovels” to those mining for fusion gold, they are able to generate revenue much earlier than other fusion startups. Japan is uniquely positioned for this industry due to the fact that it has a wide-range of manufacturing and nuclear engineering expertise, as well as companies that can assemble equipment to cater to the needs of the global fusion industry. In this episode we discuss: What is fusion is why it is the holy grail of clean energy Why nuclear fusion has yet to be commercialized How Kyoto Fusioneering is the Levi Strauss of the fusion industry The Japanese manufacturing companies that are behind the nuclear power industry Kyoto Fusioneering's integrated testing facility for fusion power plants Advice for deep-tech founders aiming to build a global business If you enjoy this episode, please make sure to follow us on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or Google Podcasts.

A note from Talking Taiwan host Felicia Lin:   In this episode of Talking Taiwan, my guests are Richard Pearson, the Executive Director of the Western Pacific Fellowship Project and Professor Shelley Rigger. We will be talking about the Taiwan Fellowship Act, a bill which has been decades in the making, and was inspired by the Mansfield Fellowship. This bill which has gotten bipartisan support in both the U.S. and Taiwan. It has been added to the COMPETES Act, and has also passed through both the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate in slightly different versions. Now the House and Senate are in conference committee to resolve differences in order to come up with a final version of the bill.   Learn more about what the Taiwan Fellowship Act is, how it serves to strengthen U.S.-Taiwan ties, why you should care about it, and how you can support passage of this bill in to law.   About Richard Pearson:   Richard Pearson is Executive Director of the Western Pacific Fellowship Project and Managing Director, Taiwan Fellowship. He has roughly two decades of experience in U.S.-Asia economic relations and the political-economy of the Asia-Pacific largely in the public service sector.   Mr. Pearson's professional experience includes time as a business reporter based in Taipei and in public service focusing on the Indo-Pacific. From 2010-2014 Mr. Pearson was an Associate Director at the Maureen and Mike Mansfield Foundation during which time he originally conceived and explored the Taiwan Fellowship concept. Along with Ryan Shaffer and former AIT Director and Chairman Ambassador Raymond Burghardt, Mr. Pearson founded the Western Pacific Fellowship Project in late-2019 to operationalize the Taiwan Fellowship.   Mr. Pearson received his undergraduate degree from St. Olaf College and his graduate degree from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. Immediately after college, he held a Fulbright scholarship to Taiwan. His essays on U.S.-Asia relations have been published in various outlets in the U.S. and East Asia including the Taipei Times and The Diplomat.   About Shelley Rigger: Shelley Rigger is the Brown Professor of East Asian Politics at Davidson College. She has a PhD in Government from Harvard University and a BA in Public and International Affairs from Princeton University. She is a non-resident fellow of the China Policy Institute at Nottingham University and a senior fellow of the Foreign Policy Research Institute (FPRI). She is also a director of The Taiwan Fund, a closed-end investment fund specializing in Taiwan-listed companies. Rigger is the author of two books on Taiwan's domestic politics, Politics in Taiwan: Voting for Democracy (Routledge 1999) and From Opposition to Power: Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (Lynne Rienner Publishers 2001). She has published two books for general readers, Why Taiwan Matters: Small Island, Global Powerhouse (2011) and The Tiger Leading the Dragon: How Taiwan Propelled China's Economic Rise (2021). She has published articles on Taiwan's domestic politics, the national identity issue in Taiwan-China relations and related topics. In 2019-20 she was a Fulbright Senior Scholar based in Taipei, where she worked on a study of Taiwan's contributions to the PRC's economic take-off and a study of Taiwanese youth.   Here's a little preview of what we talked about in this podcast episode:   The COMPETES Act and the Taiwan Fellowship Act, what they are and the background The Western Pacific Fellowship Project How the China Bill in the COMPETES Act aims to strengthen the U.S. response and monitoring of China's economic activity, and political and security moves globally How the COMPETES Act aims to strengthen the U.S. semiconductor industry How the COMPETES Act contains a bill to change the name TECRO (Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office) change to Taiwan Representative Office is a part of the Competes How the Taiwan Fellowship Act fits into the larger question of the U.S.'s response to China What the Taiwan Fellowship Act is The Mike Mansfield Fellowship Why Americans should care about getting the Taiwan Fellowship Act passed Why Taiwan matters on its own, apart from China What is the procedure for an Act to get passed and what stage the Taiwan Fellowship Act is currently at The many Taiwanese American civic groups that support the Taiwan Fellowship Act For those who'd like to support the Taiwan Fellowship Act and see it get passed in to law, now is a crucial period; they should contact their members of congress to express their support for getting it passed You can write an email to your member of congress through an automated form on FAPA's (Formosan Association of Public Affairs) website How the Mansfield Fellowship came from congress vs. the Taiwan Fellowship which has been a more grassroots effort U.S. sentiment toward Japan in the mid-1990s How Richard worked at the Mansfield Foundation and learned the value of the Mansfield Fellowship in strengthening the U.S.-Japan relationship How Richard spent time in Taiwan in 2000 and realized that there could be value in creating a fellowship program similar to the Mansfield Fellowship with Taiwan How Richard has been working on the Taiwan Fellowship Act since 2010 How now seems to be the one chance to get the Taiwan Fellowship Act passed If passed the Taiwan Fellowship could endure for decades like the Mansfield Fellowship What will happen if the Taiwan Fellowship Act doesn't get passed Reaction and support for the Taiwan Fellowship Act in Taiwan How the Taiwan Fellowship Act had gotten bipartisan support in both Taiwan (pan-Green and pan-Blue) and in the U.S. (Democrats and Republicans) How the Western Pacific Fellowship Project is a volunteer-led organization and its funding needs How there are a lot of the leading figures in US-Taiwan relations among the Western Pacific Fellowship Project's directors and advisors Shelley's support of the Taiwan Fellowship Act Why there has been such broad support for the Taiwan Fellowship Act   Related Links: https://talkingtaiwan.com/why-you-should-care-about-the-taiwan-fellowship-act-a-discussion-with-richard-pearson-and-shelley-rigger-ep-189/

UNVEILING THE HIDDEN MYSTERY OF AMERICA'S ROLE IN BIBLE PROPHECY The last book in the Bible called Revelation speaks of the end times. It confirms what Old Testament prophets foretold concerning nations that would rise. One country plays a pivotal role in fulfilling Bible prophecy and has 53 biblical descriptions. The United States of America meets every description. The Old Testament Prophet Daniel was told to shut the book for it was not for him to know the mystery, but in the latter days, the wise would understand. Get ready to receive a prophetic insight that no other generation has been given. In this new book, The Hour That Changes Everything, Richard Pearson will take us through the Bible, highlighting God's plan for America's current and future role in the End Times. Something is indeed happening, and Richard Pearson digs deeply into the Bible to help you understand biblical prophecy from a refreshingly new perspective. With each chapter, you do not only learn more about prophecy, but you'll also clearly discover hidden mysteries pointing to the United States' role in it. IT WILL COME IN ONE HOUR While the Bible has plenty to say about the End Times, The Hour That Changes Everything will uncover the most incredible “time sequence “ in human history. In that one hour, an incredible cataclysmic change will cover the world pivoting around The USA. But at the same time, even as the hour brings judgment, Richard Pearson details how the God who delivered Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego from Babylon's fiery furnace, will once again manifest His presence in our generation and miraculously open a door for our escape. Richard Pearson founded Richard Pearson Ministries while serving for twenty-one years on the executive board of Oral Roberts University. Retired now as CEO of several Canadian transportation companies, He and his wife, Karen, reside in Canada.   Order Book

www.heididawson.com Instagram: @theheididawson www.betterhelp.co 2020 has taught me that nothing is permanent. Nothing bad is permanent, but then nothing good is permanent either. Why did I go and have to say that? It may seem a little bit negative, but that's just because we do tend to like things to stay the same especially if they are good. We have been programmed to crave comfort and predictability. We were put on this earth to have new experiences though. We are here to create and enjoy life. We are here to grow and learn and inspire and be inspired. The events of this year and the things we are dealing with will pass. It may not seem like it but they will. But you know what? Sometimes a change up is good. It makes us either appreciate what we had or realize maybe we didn't love that tradition so much anymore and so we are glad it changed. Maybe it makes us start a new tradition. If you dig deep, you can find something good that has come from the change up. Maybe your holiday is a little more intimate. maybe it REALLY makes you appreciate the traditions that you may have taken for granted. Or maybe you're lonely and you aren't sure when that is going to end. Loneliness is an emotion that most people feel at one point or another, so if you are feeling lonely, you aren't alone…. There have been times in my life when I have been in a group of people I enjoyed and still felt lonely. The reason? Because my thoughts were on something other than the present…something I was missing. Often it isn't the lonely feeling that is so distressing, it is the thought that we are always going to be lonely that is the most distressing. But you know what? This too shall pass. You aren't always going to have that emotion. And listen, if you are feeling loneliness that is devastating and feels like depression and you can't kick it, ask for help. If you don't feel comfortable talking with someone in person about your feelings, go online to www.betterhelp.com. They have been highly recommended by people for being an online option for mental health help and remember, this is a form of self love. There is no shame in needing a little help here and there. We all do and getting it is a sign of strength, not weakness. Another proven way to work through loneliness is to reach out and help someone less fortunate than you are, because more than likely there is someone who has it worse. Maybe an elderly neighbor…could you drop off fresh cookies or a plant? What about Fostering dog or cat that needs a home? Could you clean out your closet and drop clothes off at a homeless shelter? How about donating money to an abused women's shelter? These are just a couple ideas… and another thing…It could also be a hormone imbalance, Ive been pretty open about my experience with hormone imbalance. I am so grateful to have realized that my feelings of unhappiness and loneliness were a hormone imbalance and now I don't have that problem anymore because I regularly have bio-identical pellets to balance my hormones, if you think this may be a problem, listen to episode 63 with Dr. Richard Pearson. It feels really really good to know there are things you can do to make the emotion of loneliness or any negative emotion feel less powerful. Remember you control your thoughts, which control your emotions so becoming more aware of our thoughts is super helpful.

ISRA executive director Richard Pearson says the lawsuit seeks the return of funds to the State Police Firearms Services Fund. He says the state has swept $29.5 million from that fund. The lawsuit argues that the 2nd Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens are being violated because the agency is not acting in a timely manner on Firearm Owner Identification Card and Concealed Carry applications. In response, the Illinois State Police say that last year 90 percent of applicants saw their paperwork processed in less than 30 days and it took an average of 65 days to renew a FOID card in 2019.
